Lukaku set to return to Chelsea ‘against his will’ with Inter Milan ‘unable and unwilling to finance another transfer’

ROMELU LUKAKU will reportedly have to reluctantly return to Chelsea at the end of his Inter Milan loan despite wanting to stay in Italy. The 29-year-old striker helped the Serie A giants to title glory in 2021 before heading back to the Blues in a £98.5m move.

But his second stint at Chelsea failed to turn into the dream he envisioned and he returned to Inter on loan last summer.
However, the Belgian striker has endured a frustrating campaign on the injury front and has scored just seven goals in 24 games.
Even though he has endured those difficulties, he wants to remain with Inter, but he appears to be set for disappointment, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
They claim that Lukaku will return to West London “against his will” as his loan club is not able to afford the potential cost of another move.

They recently announced losses of £694m over the past decade along with an annual operating loss of around £133m.
That means that chiefs will be forced into trying to make savings this summer along with the prospect that they may miss out on qualification for the Champions League and the financial rewards that would bring.
This update states that they feel they have not received enough in return from Lukaku this term to justify the £6.9m loan fee plus the cost of covering a significant part of his £325,000-a-week wages.
And now Inter are planning ahead for a future without the ex-Everton and Manchester United man in attack.

The report also stresses that Lukaku wants to stay so that he is prepared to take a wage cut.
He has also scored some vital goals in recent weeks, especially in the Champions League, as he netted the winner against Porto in the last-16 as well as getting one in last week’s 2-0 first-leg quarter final win over Benfica.
But now it seems that he will have to go on a red-hot streak until the end of the season in order to try and change Inter’s minds.
It also leaves Chelsea with a potential dilemma as they will need to balance the books after Todd Boehly’s huge outlay on new signings.
And the striker will no doubt have been viewed as one of the players that the club could sell in order to recoup funds. More

His exit came following a scathing rant about his players and the club in the wake of a 3-3 draw with Southampton.
And he was expected to leave Tottenham at the end of the season anyway as his contract was set to run out.
Now Calcio Mercato are reporting he could be employed by Roma in the coming months.
However, that is dependent on whether Mourinho remains in charge in the Italian capital.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
The Portuguese head coach, 60, is being mooted as a candidate to take over at Paris Saint-Germain.
It comes after a two-year period at Roma during which he has lifted the Europa Conference League trophy.
Roma also sit third in Serie A and will look to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Feyenoord in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie on Thursday.
PSG boss Christophe Galtier is set to lead the French giants to another Ligue 1 title, but their Champions League last-16 exit at the hands of Bayern Munich means his future is in doubt.

And Mourinho’s switch to PSG would leave the door open for Conte to assume control at Roma.
It is understood he would be handed funds in the transfer market as the Italians seek to claim a first scudetto since 2001.
Conte has won four Serie A titles as a manager – three with Juventus and one with Inter Milan.
Both Juve and Inter are also thought to be interested in bringing him back to their clubs, but their financial positions make that an unlikely move. More

Fans heartbroken as Juventus starlet Fagioli left in tears on bench after being subbed following costly Sassuolo mistake

JUVENTUS starlet Nicolo Fagioli was overcome with tears on the bench after being hauled off straight after his error handed Sassuolo victory.Fans were split over boss Max Allegri’s “too ruthless” treatment of Fagioli as team-mates tried to console the Italy midfielder.
Old Lady midfielder Nicolo Fagioli is comforted by bench colleagues but still found his blunder and resulting substitution hard to take

The 22-year-old’s poor clearance led to Sassuolo sub Gregoire Defrel swivelling to fire the only goal on 64 minutes.
Having been docked 15 points for illicit transfer dealings, Juve are now four points adrift of the top six.
And one-club man Fagioli had his head in his hands crying after Allegri’s swift action.
One fan posted: “I look at this and think, this is why Allegri has won 5 Serie A Titles. I rate Fagioli but NO ONE should be overprotected, NO ONE.”

Another wrote: “Fagioli in tears on the bench after coming off. Yes, he made a mistake, but this isn’t on him. He’s been brilliant for so much of the season. Can’t let this rest on his head.”
And a third claimed: “Some managers are too ruthless to youngsters.”
But many supporters backed the one-cap ace to bounce back as a linchpin player for the Old Lady.
Such views included: “Fagioli made a mistake but he’s one of the few players that you can see genuinely cares about the shirt and our club. I actually love him.”

But maybe one post spoke for most.
It read: “Fagioli crying is so heartbreaking. Even the best make mistakes. It was an accident as he gave the ball away for Sassuolo to score. Still the same player everyone wants to see in midfield everyday for Juventus.”
Filip Kostic was taken off at the same time as Fagiolo, with Allegri bringing on Fabio Miretti and Federico Chiesa in a failed attempt to rescue at least a point.
And Allegri refused to blame Fagioli for the defeat despite hauling him off.
The boss said after the game: “His tears mean he is a responsible boy.
“He made a mistake but he is not guilty of the loss, we are all responsible.”
Meanwhile, Napoli remain 14 points clear in the Italian top-flight.
But Tammy Abraham’s stoppage-time goal helped Jose Mourinho’s Roma move clear in third with Sunday’s 3-0 home win over Udinese. More

Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that a swap deal with Kessie and Inter midfielder Brozovic still has legs with specific factors making it an attractive option for both clubs.

The idea of a swap deal was first mooted in January with nothing happening but Gazzetta have reported that the deal is still alive.

According to the report both midfielders are valued at about £26million which would make any potential swap relatively straight forward.
