Manchester United bosses to rule on Mason Greenwood’s future this month as footballer readies for major life change

MANCHESTER United are about to make a decision on whether to keep hold of suspended England striker Mason Greenwood. The Premier League giants will rule this month on whether to restore the 21-year-old to manager Erik ten Hag’s squad or encourage him to move elsewhere.
A decision is looming on Mason Greenwood’s Manchester United future

Greenwood was exiled from the Old Trafford club after being charged with sexual offences and violence against a woman after troubling images were posted online in January last year.
He was later charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour, but the CPS dropped its case in February.
The £75,000-a-week star has been suspended on full pay but has been undergoing private one-to-one coaching sessions at an £85-an-hour public pitch – and expects to hear very soon whether he has a future at the club.
The Sun revealed on Saturday former United boss Jose Mourinho had telephoned Greenwood to sound him out about a loan move to Italian Serie A side Roma.

A source said: “Jose rang Mason’s dad and also spoke with Mason. He told him the best way out of his current situation is to start playing football — and that eventually all the hassle will fade away.
“Mason was pleased that he got in touch and it has lifted his spirits.
“He wants to get back playing and is just waiting for United to tell him what the future holds.”
Former Red Devils defender Chris Smalling — who played with Greenwood — left Old Trafford for Roma on loan in 2019.

United are said to have had contact with other Italian teams Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan about potential moves.
Greenwood is set to become a dad later this month, with his partner, enjoying a baby shower with pals this weekend.
She posed in front of a flower backdrop and was spotted hugging various friends.
She also flashed a beaming smile while cradling her bump in front of a balloon arch.
The couple were previously spotted at the five-star Langham Hotel in central London.
Greenwood was given his England debut by manager Gareth Southgate as a late substitute against Iceland in September 2020, though has not played for his country since.
Two days after the Iceland game he and Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden were withdrawn from the squad for breaching Covid guidelines by leaving the part of the hotel where they were staying.
New photos have shown how the striker has discarded his long wavy hair in favour of a crew cut.
A source said: “Mason hasn’t really been out for a good few months so he hasn’t really had to bother too much with his personal appearance.

“But getting a new trim is another indication that he is going to be playing football somewhere next season.”

Kim was the outstanding centre-back in the Serie A last season but Napoli face losing him due to a £43m release clause in his contract.
The Korean has reportedly agreed personal terms with Bayern ahead of a move to the Bundesliga side – and Napoli see Kilman as the perfect replacement.
As reported by David Ornstein in the Athletic, Wolves will demand a £34m fee for Kilman.
The defender’s contract runs until 2026 with Wolves having the option to extend by a further year.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
That means the club are under little pressure to sell, with Kilman also open to extending his stay at Molyneux.
Wolves signed the defender from non-league Maidenhead United in 2018 for just £40,000 to play for the club’s under-23s.
He has since gone on to make 107 first-team appearances for Wolves’ first team since making his debut in 2019.

Wolves could face a busy window as they look to replace outgoing defenders having already sold Nathan Collins, 22, to Brentford for £23m.
    Most read in Football
The £23m paid by Brentford is a club record fee for the Bees.
Collins’ departure followed Wolves’ own record sale as they sold Ruben Neves to Saudi Pro-League side Al-Hilal for £47m.
Meanwhile Conor Coady, 30, has joined Leicester City from Wolves in a £7.5m deal.
The former Wolves captain spent last season on loan at Everton but the Toffees did not activate their £4.5m option to buy the England international. More

Serie A referee reportedly SACKED after bust-up with Jose Mourinho as vague explanation given

Roma were shocked by the bottom-of-the-table minnows, who earned their first top flight win for 27 years.
And the Special One did not take it well, receiving a third red card of the season for allegedly swearing at officials early in the second half.
Mourinho, 60, threatened to take legal action against Serra claiming he had said something “unjustifiable”.
The irate former Manchester United and Chelsea boss told reporters after the game: “I am emotional, but not crazy.

“In order to react the way I did, something had to happen first.
“I need to understand if I can take any legal action. [Referee Marco] Piccinini gave me a red card, because unfortunately the fourth official does not have the capacity to understand what he said to me.
“For the first time in my career, a fourth official spoke to me in the most incredible way. It was unjustifiable.”
When pressed to reveal what Serra had said, Mourinho refused, saying: “I prefer for everything to be done in public.”

Reports in Italy suggested Mourinho had asked Serra for an explanation over a decision but was told to “mind your own f**king business”, which led to the altercation.
Serra. 40, was later suspended but a verdict by the National Federal Court found he could not be dismissed.
However Sky Italia are now saying that Serra has been sacked for “justified technical reasons”.
Speaking in March, Serra insisted he had said nothing to upset Mourinho.
He said: “I haven’t said anything that could offend Mourinho. I didn’t say those words. At that moment, I said something else.
“I said, you’re making the stadium turn against you. Go to the area, go to the area.” More

Fulham line up £20m Yunus Musah transfer as they look to beat AC Milan to World Cup and ex-England U18 star

FULHAM are bidding to land United States midfield dynamo Yunus Musah from Valencia in a £20million deal.Cottagers boss Marco Silva has money to spend and hard-running Musah is top of his wish-list — with the Spanish side willing to sell.

AC Milan are looking into a deal with the 20-year-old but insiders have revealed Fulham are “all over” the transfer and hope to pull off a coup.
New York-born Musah has 24 caps plus European experience, so he is ideal for Fulham as they look to build on a good campaign.
Musah will be sold to the highest bidder and, despite Milan trying hard to get him, they have yet to reach the asking price.
The lure of Serie A is big for the player and the possibility of also having fellow American Christian Pulisic joining him there, too.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
But Fulham think that the chance to come to the Premier League and London is even more attractive.
Musah already knows English football well, having represented the Three Lions at every level up to U18 before opting for the Stars and Stripes before the World Cup.
Fulham’s need may increase if a huge bid comes in for star man Joao Palhinha and they are left with a hole to fill.
The Cottagers also plan to sign up another US international, with a new contract in the pipeline for 25-year-old left-back Antonee Robinson.

Greenwood is still suspended as United chiefs investigate his conduct following his January 2022 arrest to “determine the next steps”.
Greenwood, 21, was charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.
But police confirmed in February that Greenwood “no longer faces criminal proceedings” as the Crown Prosecution Service had dropped all charges.
The England forward believes a fresh start at United is unlikely, despite manager Erik ten Hag and several team-mates offering him support.

Mourinho has contacted the player to offer him a second chance, if United decide to send him on loan or cancel his deal.

Other Italian clubs Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan have also been linked with the player.
But Mourinho has a strong bond with Greenwood after giving him a chance as Red Devils boss.
In 2018, Mourinho picked Greenwood as a 16-year-old to go on their pre-season tour of the US.
Ex-United ace Nicky Butt revealed Mourinho identified Greenwood as a future first-team star — at 15.
Butt, who worked at United when Mourinho was boss from 2016 to 2018, said: “I was his academy boss so I wondered what it would be like.
“The reality was that he was approachable and friendly. He was single-minded and selfish — and that’s what the best managers are.
“He asked, ‘Who is this kid Greenwood?’ when Mason was 15. He said, ‘Bring him to train with us’, and I said, ‘We can’t, because he’s at school and there are rules’.”
Former Red Devils defender Chris Smalling — who played with Greenwood — left Old Trafford for Roma on loan in 2019.

Rabiot, 28, has been linked with a move to the Premier League for several years.

But landing Rabiot could suggest Erik ten Hag is not confident of successfully securing a move for Mason Mount.
United have had three bids rejected for the wantaway Chelsea midfielder – the latest for £55m – as the Blues hold out for £65m.
Moises Caicedo, Muhammed Kudus and even Taylor Booth have been lined up as possible alternatives.

The Italian midfielder has agreed terms on a six-year deal with the Magpies, with the signing said to be imminent.
That is despite the 23-year-old reportedly breaking down in tears when he was told by Milan that they were selling him.

The move fell through, though, as Barca could only offer a loan with an option to buy.

Man Utd fans say Onana is ‘better than Weghorst’ as keeper transfer target burns defender and scores goal in training

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have labelled keeper target Andre Onana “better than Wout Weghorst” after he scored a brilliant goal in training. The Inter Milan shot-stopper, 27, is being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.
Andre Onana sprinted through to score during training
It was reported over the weekend that the Red Devils are set to seal a £43million deal for the Cameroon international.
He is set to replace David de Gea in between the sticks as the Spaniard’s contract is up and he is not expected to remain Erik ten Hag’s No1.
But Man Utd fans were shown on Sunday that Onana is more than just a keeper.
He shared a training video on Instagram which saw him turn and outpace a defender, before he slotted the ball neatly into the far corner.

Alongside the clip, he added the caption: “Mamma Miaa. Denzel Dumfries [this] is the last time I teach you how to score.”
And United supporters were thoroughly impressed by Onana’s finishing skills as they insisted he would be an improvement on Weghorst up front.
The Dutchman, 30, netted just twice in 31 games for Ten Hag’s men after arriving on loan from Burnley in the January window.
Reacting to Onana’s video, one United fan said: “Our new keeper is a better finisher than Weghorst 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.”

Another added: “Better striker than ice cold Martial and pressing monster Weghorst.”
A third replied: “Wout Weghorst doesn’t bag that goal I promise you.”
And a fourth responded: “We’ve found David de Gea and Weghorst’s replacements in one person with less budget.”
Onana appears to be the frontrunner to succeed De Gea.
But he is not the only target United are being linked with as Everton’s Jordan Pickford is also being mooted as a potential option.
