Smalling and Rojo return to Man Utd training with futures up in air as Solskjaer plans more transfer dealings

DEFENSIVE pair Chris Smalling and Marcus Rojo were among the star names to return to Manchester United with their futures up in the air.
Smalling, 30, and Rojo, also 30, both spent last season out on loan.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrives in his Range Rover
But with their next moves yet to be sorted out, they were pictured arriving at Carrington for pre-season training.
Smalling, pictured driving a Ferrari, impressed at Roma last season with the Italians still keen to make a permanent move for the centre-half.
But United are holding out for £20million.
Another facing the axe at Old Trafford is playmaker Jesse Lingard, 27, who arrived for training in a Lamborghini.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – snapped arriving in his Range Rover – is a fan of Lingard, having coached him at youth level.
But the Old Trafford boss is open to selling the inconsistent playmaker if an acceptable offer comes in.
United have already signed 23-year-old Donny van De Beek for £40million and also want to bring in a defender.
Marcus Rashford, 22, who pulled out of England’s Nations League squad, was also pictured pulling into Carrington.

Greenwood said: “I’d say Marcus is my inspiration because he’s come through the same pathway.
“He’s helped me a lot, he’s done the same, he’s been in my position and knows how it feels.
“It’s nice to have someone like that, someone to look up to and I’ve played with him as well which is another bonus.
“He’s a good lad, we’re all proud of him, we’re all looking after him and it’s amazing what he’s trying to do.”

Arturo Vidal available on free transfer with Barcelona desperate to clear him from wage bill

ARTURO VIDAL has been told that he will be able to leave Barcelona on a free as the club no longer require his services.
He will reportedly be allowed to leave on a free transfer as new Barca boss Ronald Koeman aims to cut the wage bill at the club.

It has been reported that Vidal’s exit will clear £8million from Barca’s payroll, according to Forbes.

Barcelona ace Vidal still has a year left on his contract, but Koeman would rather let him go now than keep him at the Nou Camp for another season.
Vidal’s departure along with several other older players in the squad, will make way for younger faces in the Barca first-team.
European giants PSG were eyeing up a move for Vidal, but Inter Milan have swooped in, and a move to the Serie A appears to be imminent.

His transfer to Milan is already considered to be a done deal, according to reports.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on air that, “It’s only a matter of time that Vidal signs for Inter.”
Di Marzio added that the only thing holding up the deal is for Vidal and Barca to mutually agree on the terms of the contract’s termination.
Inter have reached a personal agreement with Vidal said to be worth £5.3million per year, according to FootballESPANA.

Vidal has expressed his frustration at Barca’s reliance on its academy to produce new talent, and fears that his soon-to-be old club is in danger of getting left behind.
In a YouTube rant to Daniel Habif, Vidal said: “Barcelona have to change their way of thinking.
“Football has moved on a lot and the whole DNA thing is being left behind because other teams are improving in other aspects.
“The last three years are not what a team like Barcelona deserves.
“The best team in the world cannot have 13 professional players. You cannot always win with DNA.”

Man Utd failed in transfer bid for ‘next Pirlo’ Sandro Tonali as midfielder only had eyes for AC Milan, Brescia confirm

MANCHESTER UNITED missed out on Sandro Tonali because the midfield starlet is “in love” with AC Milan.
The Serie A side are set to beat United, city rivals Inter and Barcelona to the ace dubbed the ‘next Andrea Pirlo’.

    1

Like Pirlo, Tonali has come through the Brescia youth system and impressed on his debut campaign in the top-flight.
After his side succumbed to relegation last season, the 20-year-old is destined to return to Serie A with a deal in the offing with Milan.
According to Brescia owner Massimo Cellino, Tonali’s mind was made up as soon as the Rossoneri showed interest.

That will mean diverging from Pirlo’s career path, as the Juventus boss initially joined Inter – an opportunity also available to Tonali.

Cellino told Top Calcio 24, via Goal: “I know that [Inter chief] Beppe Marotta really wanted Tonali, and that Antonio Conte appreciated him, so I think his agent had agreed terms with Inter.
“He was determined and convinced that he was going to Inter, but all this time dragged on and it was practically the start of the new season with still nothing happening.
“As soon as AC Milan showed real interest, he did not want to listen to any other options.
“I also have a historically good rapport with Milan and we reached an agreement with Paolo Maldini quite quickly.

“We also had interest from Barcelona and Manchester United, but the lad is in love with Milan and went crazy once he heard of their offer, because he supports them.”
Milan are back in the Europa League next season and have splashed a fair amount of cash on Tonali.
A £9million loan move is due to be completed in the coming days and Milan can sign the Italian permanently for a further £9m, with £13m agreed as add-ons.
Cellino confirmed the deal ahead of Tonali’s medical, but admitted bigger offers had arrived from elsewhere.
The Italian claimed: “Those figures are correct, but we turned down £58m from Barcelona in January and about a dozen days ago Manchester United had offered £9m more than Milan.”

Sokratis ‘doing everything he can to leave Arsenal’ as he desperately seeks Napoli transfer after falling out of favour

ARSENAL outcast Sokratis is doing everything he can to leave the club, according to reports.
The Greek defender is reportedly set to sign for Napoli in a £3.5million deal.

    1

Sokratis is ‘doing everything he can’ to leave Arsenal for Napoli
And he is desperate for the move to go through, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.
Sokratis is said to be keen to link up with his old friends – manager Gennaro Gattuso and defender Kostas Manolas.
The two parties are reportedly close to a agreeing a deal with Sokratis keen to be paid the same salary in Italy as he is in North London.
The 32-year-old has just one year left on his Emirates contract and has been identified by the Serie A side as Kalidou Koulibaly’s replacement.
Manchester City are believed to have agreed a deal with Napoli to sign Koulibaly.
And after missing out on Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes to the Gunners, the Italians have turned to the Greek international.
SunSport reported reported last month how Sokratis was desperate for Arsenal to let him go.

He will join Napoli on a three-year deal and earn £2.2million-a-year.
He will be reunited with boss Gattuso at Stadio San Paolo after the duo played together at AC Milan during the 2010/11 season.

Mikel Arteta has been keen to offload the ex-Borussia Dortmund star with the player not in his plans going forward.
The former Werder Bremen ace failed to feature in the Premier League since the restart, with David Luiz, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding preferred instead.
Sokratis featured just four times under Arteta in the top-flight last campaign after he took the reins in December.

Watch as Cristiano Ronaldo stars in cheesy advert for PASTA alongside Juventus team-mate Dybala

CRISTIANO RONALDO and his Juventus team-mates have featured in a cringeworthy pasta advert.
The Serie A stars looked out of their comfort zone as they tried to promote the De Cecco products.

    3

The Juventus players took it in turn to name their favourite type of pasta
Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Adrien Rabiot, Giorgio Chiellini and Mattia De Sciglio featured in the advert.
The five players were lined up in front of the camera while wearing their Juventus kits.
Shirts with their names on had also been hung up in the background to ensure there was no confusion.
The players then left fans on the edge of their seats as they picked their favourite pasta.

Dybala answered the age-old debate by picking fedelini as his pasta of choice.
Ronaldo left his team-mates in hysterics as he held up a pack of linguine to the camera.
And this is not the first time that the Portuguese star has featured in a cheesy advert.
The 35-year-old was used to advertise Singapore-based e-commerce portal called Shopee.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s team-mates laughed at him during the advert

Ronaldo scored a trademark free-kick before doing his classic celebrations – but fans did not react as they were doing busy using Shopee.
After a moment of madness, the Juventus ace bizarrely started singing a song to the Baby Shark theme tune.
He was also the main character in an advert for Meo – which saw him replicate Kevin McAllister from Home Alone.

Ronaldo mimicked the classic aftershave on face scene before frighteneing off the pizza delivery guy.
But the most bizarre of is all came when he was used to promote a facial fitness tool in a Japanese.
After doing a number of kick-ups, Ronaldo wiggled the device in front of his face like a wand before a few others test it out.

Roma snap up 16-year-old Cambridge United wonderkid Mbunya Alemanji in shock £70,000 transfer

ROMA have signed 16-year-old Cambridge United whizkid Mbunya Alemanji for £70,000.
The teenage star has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Serie A giants but insists he is trying to “keep humble” after the mega move.

    1

Roma have signed Cambridge United whizkid Mbunya Alemanji
The Italian side have never seen the young forward play in the flesh but have signed him based on video footage.
Alemanji will initially play with Roma’s Under-17s side but will eventually move up to the first team.
Having completed the transfer, Alemanji said: “It is a big move but I’m just trying to prove why I’m there.

“My friends have been saying to me: ‘Do you realise you’re at AS Roma?’ I’m just trying to keep calm.”

Alemanji was born in Germany but moved to England when he was three.
The teenager had only been with Cambridge for three years after an intial six-week trial as a 13-year-old.
Alemanji shares an agent with former Manchester United and current Lyon star Memphis Depay.
And thanks to highlight videos sent to Roma’s interim sporting director Morgan de Sanctis earlier this year the move has gone through.

Four Premier League teams crack the top ten highest wage bills in Europe

Alemanji added: “It was during lockdown – my agent contacted me and said: ‘Roma are interested in you.
“They are such a big team that I didn’t really think much of it.
“The next week he contacted me again and said you might have to travel to Rome in two weeks.
“I was like, ‘Wow.’ It took longer for it to happen but I eventually signed.”

Bayern Munich are now the joint-fifth-most successful team in Europe
Alemanji’s deal will see him spend one year as a scholar before he turns professional.
He will live at Roma’s training ground, where he will be surrounded by their first-team stars, which has already stunned the young star.
He added: “I came out of my room – we had to do Covid tests – and I saw [former Chelsea winger] Pedro. I was shocked.”

Juventus sign 32-year-old Andrea Brighenti from Serie B side Monza.. to play for their UNDER-23S team

JUVENTUS have completed the transfer of 32-year-old Andrea Brighenti from Serie B side Monza – to join their Under-23s team.
The veteran Italian should fit in at the Old Lady but will be at least nine years older than virtually all his new team-mates.

    1

Juventus Under-23s have signed a 32-year-old striker in the shape of Monza’s Andrea Brighenti Credit: Getty Images – Getty
But Under-23s teams are allowed a quota of over-age players.
So striker Brighenti will join the likes of Stefano Gori, 24, Dario del Fabro, 25, Timothy Nocchi, 30, and Raffaele Alcibiade, 30, in Lamberto Zauli’s squad.
Zauli was promoted from U19s coach to replace Andrea Pirlo, who became first-team boss just nine days after being appointed manager of the U23s.
Juventus B play their football in Serie C, the third tier of Italian football.

But they will be hoping Brighenti will help power them to promotion this season, just as he did with Monza last term.
He has scored 138 goals in 403 club career appearances so can offer plenty of experience to the youthful squad.
The journeyman has found the net throughout his time in the Italian lower leagues with spells at the likes of Sambonifacese, Renate and Cremonese.
But although few Bianconeri fans will be getting overly excited about the arrival of Brighenti, they may have another new striker coming into the club very soon.

Manager Andrea Pirlo only pockets £1.6million-per-year after taking charge of the club

Luis Suarez’s ugly departure from Barcelona could see the Uruguayan join Juventus this summer and join forces with Cristiano Ronaldo in a terrifying attack.
It was reported over the weekend that Suarez has spoken to Juve chief Pavel Nedved to discuss a potential switch to Italy.
And according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Old Lady has now agreed personal terms with the player’s representatives during a second meeting.
The report adds that Suarez is set to pen a £9million-a-year contract after tax – the same wage he is currently raking in at Barcelona.
Juve boss Pirlo has identified the ex-Liverpool ace as a replacement for Gonzalo Higuain, who has been linked with David Beckham’s MLS side Inter Miami.
