Cristiano Ronaldo backs Khabib to beat Justin Gatethje as Juventus star says ‘of course’ UFC champ will retain belt

CRISTIANO RONALDO has backed Khabib Nurmagomedov to ‘of course’ beat Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.
Unbeaten Khabib headlines Fight Island next weekend against interim champion Gaethje in a lightweight unification.

Ronaldo backed Nurmagomedov to ‘of course’ beat Justin Gaethje at UFC 254

Juventus forward Ronaldo, 35, was asked to predict the outcome of the title fight.
And the Portugal icon – currently self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus – has tipped Nurmagomedov, 32, to retain his crown.
Ronaldo answered on an Instagram live stream: “Of course, of course, Khabib is going to win!
    “My brother! Inshallah!”

The two mega-stars previously met in 2018, where the pair posed together and Nurmagomedov held up a Real Madrid shirt.
Ronaldo is a UFC fan and previously trained with Russian Khabib’s former opponent and rival Conor McGregor, 32.
McGregor and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner met up in Las Vegas in 2016.
Ronaldo then invited the Irishman and his trainer John Kavanagh to Jennifer Lopez’s party.

Kavanagh told the Irish Independant: “We’re all there thinking: ‘How can Ronaldo invite us to this gig? Who’s going to be there?’
“Even in the car as we’re driving in: ‘Wait! This a terrible mistake. We’re going to walk in here and be thrown out by some security guard!’
“We go in and J-Lo catches his [McGregor’s] eye and comes running over like a schoolgirl: “Oh! Conor McGregor! Thank you for coming. Let’s dance!”

Cristiano Ronaldo urges fans to ditch sweets, eat vegetables and soak up some sunshine in bid to survive coronavirus

CRISTIANO RONALDO has urged fans to ‘respect but not fear’ coronavirus in his first comments since testing positive on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old also extolled the virtues of sunbathing as he hit back at claims he had breached protocol by flying to Italy on Wednesday.

On an Instagram Live addressing the importance of developing a strong immune system, he said: “The sun helps a lot.
“People don’t have that perception, but it does a lot of good.
“When I get the chance, I do some sunbathing. In Turin it is more difficult, but I always try to get 20 or 30 minutes of sunshine.

“I love being on my terrace soaking up the sun, it’s very important.
“Having high vitamin C and D, with high levels, Selenium, Omega 3, eating well and properly, doing sport.
“A lot of people don’t like it but just walking is important . And sleeping well, having a good night’s sleep is the best medicine.
“With everything off, no lights on. Thank God I sleep well every night, always eight or nine hours a day. Invest in it, it is essential.

“Eat well, lots of vegetables, lots of greens and don’t abuse sweets to have a strong immune system.”

    3

He added: “In my next Instagram Live I will give my opinion and my point of view on what I have been studying in the last years.
“I wish you all health and urge you not to be afraid of the virus and face the reality, but respect it.”
He also hit back at Italian sports minister Vincenzo Spadaforo who had claimed earlier in the week he believed Ronaldo may have broken coronavirus protocol by jetting to Italy from Portugal in an air ambulance 24 hours after he tested positive.
The former Manchester United star said: “I did not break any protocol.

Manager Andrea Pirlo only pockets £1.6million-per-year after taking charge of the club
“They’re saying that I broke Italian laws but it’s all a lie.
“I spoke with my team and we have the responsibility to do things right.
“Everything was done with authorisation. Principally for the Italian man whose name I’m not going to say, it’s a lie, I abided by all the protocols.”
Earlier in the day Cristiano’s mum Dolores Aveiro revealed the Juventus striker was “doing well.”
Speaking before Cristiano showed off his ripped body by his pool in a social media photo, she told Portuguese daily Correio da Manha: “He’s doing well, thank God.
“Unfortunately I can’t be with him but I’m supporting him from a distance.”
Ronaldo also confirmed he was living on a separate floor to the rest of his family at his mansion in Turin.
Speaking while his kids were at school, he said: “I’m on one floor and my children are on another. For the next ten days it’s going to be like that.
“It’s difficult not to be in contact with them, but we have to respect the rules.”

Chelsea transfer target Gianluigi Donnarumma in talks with AC Milan and agent Mino Raiola over new contract

CHELSEA transfer target Gianluigi Donnarumma is in talks with AC Milan and his agent Mino Raiola over a new contract, according to reports.
After a stand-off, the 21-year-old goalkeeper is now in contact with the club for a new agreement which comes as a blow to the Blues.

They had harboured hopes of nabbing the youngster on a free next summer, even after the signing of Edouard Mendy.
But with Donnarumma and his notorious agent Riola now in discussion with Milan, Chelsea will have to watch on nervously to see if anything is agreed.
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato report that the goalie does want to stay with AC Milan and is willing to extend his contract, which runs out in June 2021.
Discussing Donnarumma last month, club legend and technical director Paolo Maldini suggested there was little reason to rush.

The 52-year-old told Sky Sport Italia: “He has played 220 games with Milan at his age, that’s absolutely uncommon. The more he goes on, the more he becomes a leader.
“He is a leader in training and with his behaviour. His growth has been truly exponential.
Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are also believed to be ready to swoop, meaning Chelsea will have a fight even if contract talks break down.
Donnarumma on a free would represent extraordinary business if the London side could pull it off, and would make a big contrast to their signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The club splashed a colossal £71.6million on the Spaniard to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
But he has made a string of errors over multiple seasons and has recently been replaced by £22m Edouard Mendy from Rennes.
Kepa was believed to want a way out but changed his mind.

Chelsea eyed Gianluigi Donnarumma in summer and could still land AC Milan keeper in free transfer despite signing Mendy

CHELSEA plotted a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma before completing a deal for Edouard Mendy, according to reports.
And they may go back in for the AC Milan captain in June when his contract expires but will face competition from a host of top clubs.

Donnarumma has been a mainstay at the San Siro since he was 16 but is yet to agree a new contract with the club.
Chelsea were among the interested parties during the recent transfer window, as reported by CalcioMercato.
Frank Lampard was unhappy with Kepa Arrizabalaga as his first-choice keeper and bagged Mendy from Rennes for £22million.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid also took an interest in Donnarumma, along with Juventus.

But the 21-year-old’s future will primarily be decided by the outcome of contract negotiations with Milan.
The Serie A side are said to believe that he wants to stay with the club.
A potential Chelsea bid would likely demand Kepa leave Stamford Bridge, with no willing buyer emerging over the autumn.
After a number of years outside of the European elite, Milan are back in continental competition this year and have won all six of their opening games in 2020-21.

That includes a dramatic 9-8 penalty shootout victory over Rio Ave in Europa League play-offs and three consecutive clean sheets in Serie A.

Discussing the Donnarumma talks last month, club legend and technical director Paolo Maldini suggested there was little reason to rush.
The 52-year-old told Sky Sport Italia: “He has played 220 games with Milan at his age, that’s absolutely uncommon. The more he goes on, the more he becomes a leader.
“He is a leader in training and with his behaviour. His growth has been truly exponential.
“We must try, it could happen in a week, 10 days, 20 days, we are not in a hurry. We are in this situation now, we know, so 10 or 15 more days won’t change anything.”

Juventus awarded 3-0 win over Napoli who get point deducted after Serie A side forfeited game over coronavirus

JUVENTUS have been handed a 3-0 win after Napoli failed to show up to their Serie A clash on October 4.
Napoli have also been deducted a point as further punishment.

Local health authorities had blocked the visitors from travelling to Turin after two of their players tested positive for coronavirus.
In the week prior to the highly-anticipated league clash, players Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas had contracted the virus alongside a staff member.
It came on the back of news that Genoa, Napoli’s previous opponents, had 22 players test positive for the virus.
Rules in Italy stated that anybody who came in contact with a positive test had to self-isolate.

But those rules did not apply to Serie A, which was agreed before the start of the season.
Juventus even travelled to their home stadium to play the game while Napoli failed to make the 700-mile trip.
Napoli wanted the game rescheduled but a judge from Serie A claimed ‘force majeure’ did not come into effect.

It means they denied a claim that extraordinary circumstances prevented them from making the trip.

A statement read: “In the opinion of this sports judge, the case of force majeure is not proven.”
Napoli have insisted they will appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Cristiano Ronaldo travels from Portugal to Italy onboard private ambulance plane after positive coronavirus test

CRISTIANO RONALDO has left Portugal in an air ambulance to continue his self-isolation at his Turin home after testing positive for coronavirus.
The 35-year-old’s jet left Tires Airport in Cascais near Lisbon around 1.45pm local time.

He was taken to the municipal airstrip from the Portuguese training camp base in nearby Oeiras by ambulance.
He is understood to be travelling in a Bombardier Learjet 45XR LX-ONE which is specially equipped to fly him following his Covid positive test.
It is operated by Luxembourg Air Rescue which specialises in offering repatriations of those who have suffered illnesses or accidents abroad and need to get back home.
It had been reported earlier in the day he wanted to fly back to Italy.

He was pictured on Tuesday giving the thumbs-up from a balcony at his room at the Portuguese training camp.
His positive coronavirus test put him out of tonight’s Uefa Nations League match against Sweden.
There has not been any official comment from the Portuguese FA on Ronaldo’s departure, although it’s understood he requested and received permission to travel.
Earlier today, Portuguese sports analyst Rui Pedro Braz, referring to Jose Fontes and Anthony Lopes who are the other two Portuguese internationals to have tested positive for coronavirus so far, said: “It’s up to Cristiano to decide whether he travels to Turin or remains in Portugal.

“Jose Fonte tested positive for Covid and travelled to Lille and Anthony Lopes tested positive and travelled to Lyon.
“Cristiano Ronaldo believes that if he tests positive a third time he’ll want to travel to Turin.”
Portugal manager Fernando Santos claimed before the Juventus star left his homeland that Ronaldo was desperate to play after being forced to sit out tonight’s clash against Sweden.
Speaking while the team star was still at the Portuguese training camp, he said in an update on the footballer’s condition: “He is managing the situation very well.
“He is in the room, saying he wants to play, he talks to us from his balcony.
“He is completely asymptomatic, he is OK, without any symptoms, he doesn’t even know what happened to him.”
The plane Ronaldo left on was pictured and his departure filmed live on TV, but it is not thought anyone managed to obtain any clear shots of the footballer.
Plane operator European Air Ambulance describes itself as offering “bed-to-bed services for worldwide missions” on its website.

It says: “European Air Ambulance is one of the largest specialised air ambulance service providers in Europe offering worldwide air ambulance repatriation with outstanding end-to-end patient care.
“All missions are staffed with a medical team consisting of a specialised physician and a flight nurse.
“We are ready to take off day and night, 365 days a year.”
Ronaldo’s partner Georgina Rodriguez has labelled the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as her ‘inspiration’ following his positive test.
Uploading a screenshot of a Whatsapp video call between them alongside the message: “You are my inspiration” and a heart emoji.
Italian media have revealed that despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Ronaldo remains on a £28million-a-year salary at Juventus.
This is equal to or more than the squad bill at FOUR Serie A teams.
And Ronaldo also earns four time more than the second highest-paid player in the Italian top-flight.

Best XI available for FREE in 2021 including Lionel Messi, Mesut Ozil, Paul Pogba… and Prem return for Diego Costa?

LIONEL MESSI and Paul Pogba head the list of seriously big names who are now into the final year of their current contracts.
And that means we could see some incredible free transfers at the end of the season.

These players are all out of contract come the end of the season so will be available for free

    7

Messi threatened to quit Barcelona this summer but decided to honour his deal while Pogba made another ploy to try and manufacture a ‘dream’ move to Real Madrid over the international break.
But with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero also running down their deals, plenty of clubs will be eyeing up some smart business.
And could there even be a surprise return to the Premier League in store for Diego Costa?
SunSport picks out some of the best players available for nothing next summer.

    GK – Gianluigi Donnarumma
The AC Milan stopper burst on to the scene as a teenager and is still backed to be Italy’s No1 for many years.
But with just a year to go on his current deal, could he be holding out for one of the European superpowers to come calling?
    RB – Eric Garcia
OK, yes, his favoured position is at centre-back but for this team he is going to have to move across.
The Manchester City star revealed he will not be signing a contract extension at the Etihad and is expected to rejoin Barcelona after a summer move fell through.

    CB – Sergio Ramos
Ramos takes the first centre-back spot as one of the greatest in that position over the last decade.
Captain now Iker Casillas has gone, penalty taker now Cristiano Ronaldo has gone, the Real Madrid icon may no longer be at his peak aged 34 but is still a fine defender.
    CB – Jerome Boateng
On paper, Boateng has enjoyed a stellar career with an FA Cup, eight Bundesligas, two Champions Leagues and the World Cup.
But even then the German still leaves some unconvinced he is in the top bracket – however, you could do worse for a free agent.

Chelsea were the top spenders in the Premier League this summer

    7

The percentage of answers have been round up or down from their decimal points
    LB – David Alaba
Alaba, meanwhile, has proven his quality time and time again – and in many different positions.
The Bayern Munich star excelled at left-back for years but has since moved into midfield and centre-back, making it look easy – no wonder the giants are battling it out for his signature.
    CM – Paul Pogba
What more is there to say about Paul Pogba? There is undoubtedly bags of talent – as he showed at the World Cup and at the end of last season.
But it feels like he has never fully found his best football since returning to Old Trafford for £89million and keeps openly admitting he would consider a transfer – the question is whether he has justified a move to the likes of Real Madrid. Does have a 12-month extension option.
    CM – Georginio Wijnaldum
A critical part of the Liverpool engine room which delivered European and then league success.
Ronald Koeman taking over at Barcelona and Thiago’s arrival at Anfield led to speculation of a departure this summer – give it a year and he could well be lining up at the Nou Camp.
    CM – Mesut Ozil
Arsenal will be counting down the days until they can stop paying Ozil £350,000 per week, or £50,000 a day, or £2,083 an hour, or £34.72 per minute.
The German signed his lucrative new deal in January 2018 and has done very little for the club since – and absolutely nothing after the lockdown restart, except offer to pay for Gunnersaurus’ wages.

    7

Paul Pogba declared it would be a ‘dream’ for him to play for Real Madrid – but whether he has earned the move is debatableCredit: PA:Press Association

    RW – Lionel Messi
We almost witnessed one of the most spectacular of all transfers this summer when Messi was ready to walk out on Barcelona after nearly 20 years.
His loyalty to the Catalan giants saw him perform a U-turn so he didn’t take them to court and instead would honour the final year.
But it would take a remarkable shake-up for the Argentine to sign a new deal.
And that means the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain will be plotting their mammoth offers.

    ST – Sergio Aguero
Aguero is the greatest foreign goalscorer the Premier League has seen, breaking records galore and bagging more than 250 times for City since his arrival in 2011.
But this season may well be his last if there is no agreement made for the 32-year-old to stay on beyond the summer – and he would not be short of options.
    LW – Memphis Depay
Remembered by many for his failed spell at Manchester United, Depay reset with Lyon and has proven he is still a top-class talent.
Like compatriot Wijnaldum, he was close to joining Barcelona in the last window but a deal could not get over the line in time – another impressive campaign in Ligue 1 will ensure the biggest clubs keep an eye out.
    Alternative XI
Unsurprisingly, there are still a fair few names not getting into that star-studded XI.
So here is the Alternative XI – and it is still pretty strong with experienced internationals, Premier League kings, a World Cup champion and even a Ballon d’Or winner.

Another whole team of out-of-contract talented players could make up a second-string XI
    GK – Jack Butland
Things have gone rather pear-shaped for Butland, England’s youngest senior goalkeeper, with relegation with Stoke, a loss of form and now an outcast – although was linked with Liverpool as back-up to Alisson.
    CB – Willy Boly
Boly was one of Wolves’ standout players in their first year back in the Premier League and is still a key member of the back three Nuno Espirito Santo has mastered at Molineux.
    CB – Jonny Evans
At £3m, Leicester bagged a great when they landed the former Man United defender, who played in every league game for the Foxes in 2019-20 – don’t rule out a new deal getting signed.
    CB – Shkodran Mustafi
Mustafi’s Arsenal career looked all over before Mikel Arteta’s arrival and a strong end to the season.
But will he be needed next season with William Saliba, Gabriel, Pablo Mari, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers AND Konstantinos Mavropanos?

Manchester clubs have the worst net spend in the past decade by some distance
    RM – Michail Antonio
Effective in a multitude of positions – probably none more so than up front – Antonio is proving why he deserves a new contract with the Hammers already this season.
    CM – Luka Modric
A serial winner for Real Madrid, ended the Ballon d’Or duopoly and took Croatia to the World Cup final.
But it looks as though Modric’s nine years at the Bernabeu will come to an end following the emergence of Fede Valverde and others.
    CM – Julian Draxler
The German midfielder’s Paris Saint-Germain career never really took off as many expected following his 2017 arrival from Wolfsburg but aged 27 he will be confident of further success.
    LM – Danny Rose
England’s No1 left-back for many years saw his career spiral downwards when Jose Mourinho arrived at Spurs and he needs to find a new club while he can still do a job .
The 30-year-old walks into a fair number of Premier League sides.

    7

Luka Modric became the first player other than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’Or since Kaka in 2007Credit: AP:Associated Press
    CAM – Angel Di Maria
Not many players can boast a CV of clubs like Di Maria.
But now well into his 30s, he will do well to earn another contract at Paris Saint-Germain and will need to be playing to get back into the Argentina fold ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
    ST – Arkadiusz Milik
He may have already racked up more than 50 Poland appearances but it appears Spurs-target Milik is unwanted at Napoli. Turning 27 in February, he still has plenty to offer.
    ST – Diego Costa
And last but by no means least is Costa. The fiery front man banged in 59 goals in 120 Chelsea appearances before returning to Atletico Madrid in 2017 – but now faces competition from Luis Suarez.
