Best XI available for FREE in 2021 including Lionel Messi, Mesut Ozil, Paul Pogba… and Prem return for Diego Costa?

LIONEL MESSI and Paul Pogba head the list of seriously big names who are now into the final year of their current contracts.
And that means we could see some incredible free transfers at the end of the season.

These players are all out of contract come the end of the season so will be available for free

Messi threatened to quit Barcelona this summer but decided to honour his deal while Pogba made another ploy to try and manufacture a ‘dream’ move to Real Madrid over the international break.
But with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero also running down their deals, plenty of clubs will be eyeing up some smart business.
And could there even be a surprise return to the Premier League in store for Diego Costa?
SunSport picks out some of the best players available for nothing next summer.

    GK – Gianluigi Donnarumma
The AC Milan stopper burst on to the scene as a teenager and is still backed to be Italy’s No1 for many years.
But with just a year to go on his current deal, could he be holding out for one of the European superpowers to come calling?
    RB – Eric Garcia
OK, yes, his favoured position is at centre-back but for this team he is going to have to move across.
The Manchester City star revealed he will not be signing a contract extension at the Etihad and is expected to rejoin Barcelona after a summer move fell through.

    CB – Sergio Ramos
Ramos takes the first centre-back spot as one of the greatest in that position over the last decade.
Captain now Iker Casillas has gone, penalty taker now Cristiano Ronaldo has gone, the Real Madrid icon may no longer be at his peak aged 34 but is still a fine defender.
    CB – Jerome Boateng
On paper, Boateng has enjoyed a stellar career with an FA Cup, eight Bundesligas, two Champions Leagues and the World Cup.
But even then the German still leaves some unconvinced he is in the top bracket – however, you could do worse for a free agent.

Chelsea were the top spenders in the Premier League this summer

    7

The percentage of answers have been round up or down from their decimal points
    LB – David Alaba
Alaba, meanwhile, has proven his quality time and time again – and in many different positions.
The Bayern Munich star excelled at left-back for years but has since moved into midfield and centre-back, making it look easy – no wonder the giants are battling it out for his signature.
    CM – Paul Pogba
What more is there to say about Paul Pogba? There is undoubtedly bags of talent – as he showed at the World Cup and at the end of last season.
But it feels like he has never fully found his best football since returning to Old Trafford for £89million and keeps openly admitting he would consider a transfer – the question is whether he has justified a move to the likes of Real Madrid. Does have a 12-month extension option.
    CM – Georginio Wijnaldum
A critical part of the Liverpool engine room which delivered European and then league success.
Ronald Koeman taking over at Barcelona and Thiago’s arrival at Anfield led to speculation of a departure this summer – give it a year and he could well be lining up at the Nou Camp.
    CM – Mesut Ozil
Arsenal will be counting down the days until they can stop paying Ozil £350,000 per week, or £50,000 a day, or £2,083 an hour, or £34.72 per minute.
The German signed his lucrative new deal in January 2018 and has done very little for the club since – and absolutely nothing after the lockdown restart, except offer to pay for Gunnersaurus’ wages.

    7

Paul Pogba declared it would be a ‘dream’ for him to play for Real Madrid – but whether he has earned the move is debatableCredit: PA:Press Association

    RW – Lionel Messi
We almost witnessed one of the most spectacular of all transfers this summer when Messi was ready to walk out on Barcelona after nearly 20 years.
His loyalty to the Catalan giants saw him perform a U-turn so he didn’t take them to court and instead would honour the final year.
But it would take a remarkable shake-up for the Argentine to sign a new deal.
And that means the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain will be plotting their mammoth offers.

    ST – Sergio Aguero
Aguero is the greatest foreign goalscorer the Premier League has seen, breaking records galore and bagging more than 250 times for City since his arrival in 2011.
But this season may well be his last if there is no agreement made for the 32-year-old to stay on beyond the summer – and he would not be short of options.
    LW – Memphis Depay
Remembered by many for his failed spell at Manchester United, Depay reset with Lyon and has proven he is still a top-class talent.
Like compatriot Wijnaldum, he was close to joining Barcelona in the last window but a deal could not get over the line in time – another impressive campaign in Ligue 1 will ensure the biggest clubs keep an eye out.
    Alternative XI
Unsurprisingly, there are still a fair few names not getting into that star-studded XI.
So here is the Alternative XI – and it is still pretty strong with experienced internationals, Premier League kings, a World Cup champion and even a Ballon d’Or winner.

Another whole team of out-of-contract talented players could make up a second-string XI
    GK – Jack Butland
Things have gone rather pear-shaped for Butland, England’s youngest senior goalkeeper, with relegation with Stoke, a loss of form and now an outcast – although was linked with Liverpool as back-up to Alisson.
    CB – Willy Boly
Boly was one of Wolves’ standout players in their first year back in the Premier League and is still a key member of the back three Nuno Espirito Santo has mastered at Molineux.
    CB – Jonny Evans
At £3m, Leicester bagged a great when they landed the former Man United defender, who played in every league game for the Foxes in 2019-20 – don’t rule out a new deal getting signed.
    CB – Shkodran Mustafi
Mustafi’s Arsenal career looked all over before Mikel Arteta’s arrival and a strong end to the season.
But will he be needed next season with William Saliba, Gabriel, Pablo Mari, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers AND Konstantinos Mavropanos?

Manchester clubs have the worst net spend in the past decade by some distance
    RM – Michail Antonio
Effective in a multitude of positions – probably none more so than up front – Antonio is proving why he deserves a new contract with the Hammers already this season.
    CM – Luka Modric
A serial winner for Real Madrid, ended the Ballon d’Or duopoly and took Croatia to the World Cup final.
But it looks as though Modric’s nine years at the Bernabeu will come to an end following the emergence of Fede Valverde and others.
    CM – Julian Draxler
The German midfielder’s Paris Saint-Germain career never really took off as many expected following his 2017 arrival from Wolfsburg but aged 27 he will be confident of further success.
    LM – Danny Rose
England’s No1 left-back for many years saw his career spiral downwards when Jose Mourinho arrived at Spurs and he needs to find a new club while he can still do a job .
The 30-year-old walks into a fair number of Premier League sides.

    7

Luka Modric became the first player other than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’Or since Kaka in 2007Credit: AP:Associated Press
    CAM – Angel Di Maria
Not many players can boast a CV of clubs like Di Maria.
But now well into his 30s, he will do well to earn another contract at Paris Saint-Germain and will need to be playing to get back into the Argentina fold ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
    ST – Arkadiusz Milik
He may have already racked up more than 50 Poland appearances but it appears Spurs-target Milik is unwanted at Napoli. Turning 27 in February, he still has plenty to offer.
    ST – Diego Costa
And last but by no means least is Costa. The fiery front man banged in 59 goals in 120 Chelsea appearances before returning to Atletico Madrid in 2017 – but now faces competition from Luis Suarez.

Man Utd outcast Diogo Dalot wanted by AC Milan in permanent transfer with talks planned for January after loan move

MANCHESTER United outcast Diogo Dalot is wanted by AC Milan for the long-term with the Italian club prepared to make his loan move permanent, according to reports.
The 21-year-old full-back has fallen down the pecking order after the emergence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

    1

He left for AC Milan earlier this month but with the side having a busy schedule coming up, he is expected to get much more game time.
Dalot made only a single appearance for United this season in a Carabao Cup win against Brighton.
Italian media outlet Tuttosport claim Milan manager Stefano Poli recognises the full-back’s talent and the club are prepared to re-enter negotiations to make the move permanent in January.
Dalot could be set for his debut on Saturday in the Milan derby – if the game goes ahead.

The match is currently in doubt as rivals Inter Milan deal with a Covid-19 outbreak.
Six of their players have had to self-isolate after a positive test, with ex-United winger Ashley Young becoming the latest to be struck by coronavirus.
He joins defenders Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar, midfielders Radja Nainggolan and Roberto Gagliardini and backup goalkeeper Ionuț Radu who are quarantining.
Dalot will be looking to get into the team if the game goes ahead, but will have to get ahead of Davide Calabria who currently occupies the right-back slot.

But with Europa League games coming thick and fast, he may get his chance if the manager rotates the squad.
Dalot joined United in 2018 in a £19million move from Porto.
He penned a five-year deal putting United in a strong negotiating position if Milan do want to enter further negotiations. More

Cristiano Ronaldo earns more money than FOUR Serie A teams as Juventus squad’s wages revealed

CRISTIANO RONALDO’S £28million-a-year wages at Juventus is reportedly equal to or more than the squad bill at FOUR Serie A teams.
The 35-year-old is understood to be on around £540,000-a-week in Turin after he joined from Real Madrid in 2018.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner – who has tested positive for Covid-19 – earns four times more than the next player in the division.
His Juve team-mate Matthijs de Ligt, 21, is said to be on a £7.2m-a-year salary, where he pockets £138k-a-week.
Paulo Dybala is the third highest-paid player at Juventus due to his £6.6m salary, followed by Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey, who both earn £6.3m.
But a more incredible stat is the fact that Serie A clubs Udinese, Hellas Verona, Spezia and Crotone have the same or a lower squad bill than what Ronaldo earns yearly.

It should come as no surprise that the Old Lady boast the highest wage bill in the Italian top-flight, with their expenditure coming it at £214m.
Inter Milan boast the second highest wage bill in Italy at £135m-a-year, followed by Roma (£101m) Napoli (£95m) and AC Milan (£81m).
The Nerazzurri have the highest-paid manager in the division, with Antonio Conte raking in £10.8m a year, with Roma’s Paulo Fonseca (£2.2m) and Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini (£1.9m) rounding off the top three.

    Cristiano Ronaldo: £28million p/a
    Matthijs de Ligt: £7.2m
    Romelu Lukaku: £6.8m
    Christian Eriksen: £6.8m
    Edin Dzeko: £6.8m
    Paulo Dybala: £6.6m
    Adrien Rabiot: £6.3m
    Aaron Ramsey: £6.3m
    Alexis Sanchez: £6.3m
    Zlatan Ibrahimovic: £6.3m

Juve boss Andrea Pirlo is on just £1.6m-a-year, which is less than what AC Milan’s Stefano Pioli, Bologna’s Sinisa Mihajlovic and Lazio’s Simone Inzaghi all earn (£1.8m).
Three of Inter’s players feature in the top ten highest-paid players list, with Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen both earning £6.8m-a-year – the same figure as Roma’s Edin Dzeko.
Alexis Sanchez earns £6.3m-a-year at the San Siro, as does Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Cristiano Ronaldo gives thumbs-up from hotel self-isolation as Juventus star demands fourth test over results confusion

CRISTIANO RONALDO is anxiously awaiting the result of a new coronavirus test he personally requested before deciding his next move.
The 35-year-old was pictured late on Tuesday giving the thumbs-up and smiling from the balcony of his room at the Portugal squad’s training base on the outskirts of Lisbon where he is currently self-isolating.

He watched his pals train as they prepare to face Sweden in the Nations League – a tournament they are looking to defend having won the inaugral competition last summer.
It is understood the 35-year-old Juventus star demanded a new test by a different lab from the one the Portuguese FA uses – and is still awaiting the result.
Portuguese sports analyst Rui Pedro Braz believes this is the fourth test Ronaldo has taken, after two ‘Gold Standard’ positives which are seen as the most accurate and a third which came back ‘inconclusive’.
It is not yet clear when the results of the new test will be known but they will enable the former Real Madrid and Manchester United hero to work out what to do next.

Reports in Portugal say he is expected to return to Turin to continue his self-isolation if he tests positive for Covid-19 a third time.
However, he would have to be taken to Lisbon Airport to board a private plane in an ambulance as part of strict protocols on the movement of people with coronavirus.
It is also understood Ronaldo was forced to scrap plans to see his mum Dolores for only the second time in nearly six months.
She had travelled to Lisbon to see her daughter Katia and was expected to have a brief catch-up with son Cristiano before his positive test.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner last saw his mother in mid-August with son Cristiano Jr but before that she was recovering from a stroke earlier in the year.
Cristiano’s elder sister Elma Aveiro revealed her brother’s frustration and confusion at catching the virus despite being locked in with the rest of the Portuguese squad.
She told respected Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha: “He wanted to repeat the test. He said it was impossible he had the virus because he didn’t feel anything.”
Braz, speaking on Portuguese TV staton TVI on Wednesday, added to the mystery surrounding Cristiano’s positive tests.
He said: “The Portuguese players have been together for nearly ten days. Cristiano for example travelled after the game that wasn’t played between Juventus and Napoli because of positives in the Napoli squad.
“In the ten days he’s been with the Portugal team, he’s had eight Gold Standard Covid-19 tests.
“The first six came back negative. The seventh one, which was done on Monday and the results of which came back in the early hours of yesterday, was positive as was the new one done yesterday.
“He’s now awaiting the results of a third test he’s personally asked for.”
    TRAVEL TO TURIN
He added, referring to Jose Fonte and Anthony Lopes who are the other two Portuguese internationals who have previously tested positive: “It’s up to him to decide whether he travels to Turin or remains in Portugal.
“Jose Fonte tested positive for Covid and travelled to Lille and Anthony Lopes tested positive and travelled to Lyon.
“Cristiano Ronaldo believes that if he tests positive a third time he’ll want to travel to Turin.
“There has been some speculation about another test which has been carried out since his positives and that is the case.
“But it wasn’t a Gold Standard test of the type carried out in the Portuguese FA installations and taken to a lab with a wait of five to six hours for the results.
“It was a normal everyday test which Cristiano wanted to do after his first positive and that one came back inconclusive.”

Cristiano Ronaldo in touching moment with Kylian Mbappe as Frenchman calls Portugal icon ‘GOAT and idol’ ahead of Messi

KYLIAN MBAPPE paid tribute to his “idol” Cristiano Ronaldo after going head to head with the Portugal superstar.
A drab 0-0 draw in the Nations League on Sunday night featured a touching moment between the pair.

Mbappe and Ronaldo shared a conversation on the halfway line, smiling and joking with each other before the Juventus ace shot his counterpart a thumbs-up.
Fans watching the game loved the camaraderie between the two world-class forwards.
And many hope to see Mbappe, 21, become a leading light of his generation much in the same way Ronaldo, 35, has led his.
After the game, the Paris Saint-Germain attacker tweeted pictures of himself with Ronaldo on the pitch.

    He captioned the shot: “Idol.”
And two emojis hammered home Mbappe’s admiration for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner – a crown and a goat.
Many took this as the latest indication that Ronaldo is widely seen as the greatest player of all time, ahead of Lionel Messi, Pele and Diego Maradona.
It was just the latest reminder of Mbappe’s love for Ronaldo, the pair having met some years ago while the latter played for Real Madrid.

    4

    4

    4

In 2017, the Frenchman told Marca: “He is a hero from my childhood and it was amazing to meet him when I visited Valdebebas.”
On Sunday night, it was Ronaldo who looked more likely to end the Parisian stalemate.
An early sighting of goal was blocked by Lucas Hernandez before Hugo Lloris palmed away a second-half drive.
Mbappe found Rui Patricio in the way when attempting to chip home from a narrow angle, with the point leaving Portugal and France level atop Group 3.

Juventus set to beat Man Utd and City to the free transfer of Bayern Munich superstar David Alaba next summer

JUVENTUS are reportedly winning the race to sign Manchester United and City target David Alaba.
Football Italia claims Andrea Pirlo is eager to sign the versatile Austrian defender when his Bayern Munich contract expires next summer.

Alaba, 28, has been with the Bavarian giants since 2008.
And he has since made an astonishing 389 appearances, helping them win nine Bundesliga titles, six German Cups and two Champions Leagues.
However, Alaba’s current deal runs out in 2021.

And he is yet to agree fresh terms despite months of negotiations.
Bayern now face losing Alaba for nothing, despite his ability to play at either left-back or centre-back.
The Austria international, who has also played in midfield, is believed to be attracting strong interest from a number of elite clubs.
United are known to be fans and feel Alaba would be a great option at centre-back.

Meanwhile, City believe he could replace left-back Benjamin Mendy after already strengthening their middle with Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake.

    2

How the PL’s best transfer XI for this summer could look

Paris Saint-Germain are also keen having failed to land a replacement for Thiago Silva following his free transfer to Chelsea.
But Juventus are understood to be in pole position for Alaba.
The likes of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci are in their twilight years.
And Alaba would be an ideal partner for young Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt.
But despite questions over his long-term future, Alaba insists he remains committed to Bayern’s cause.
He explained: “The hunger is always there. I play football so that I can be on top at the end of the day.
“I feel very comfortable in Munich, it has been my home for 12 years. I have experienced some very nice moments there.”
