Ex-Arsenal striker Bendtner claims players have smoked at ‘every club’ he’s played and name drops Pirlo and Buffon

NICKLAS BENDTNER has claimed top players at every club he’s played at have smoked throughout their careers.
Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon are two of the stars the Dane has shared a dressing room with – and he says the legends were in the toilets with a cig.

Bendtner, 32, spent a loan spell at Juventus in 2012-13 and recalled the ‘amazing’ sight from his first day.
He told 5 Live: “It was in the bathroom, I couldn’t find the guys and it was a little bit weird.
“You know, it was my first day. Obviously I got quite quickly onto the coffee wagon as well.

“Then I found ten or twelve of them in the toilets, just having a coffee, talking, enjoying each other’s company – and having a cig.
“It was an amazing sight and made me feel like this was something I will enjoy.”
When asked about Pirlo and Buffon specifically, Bendtner insisted they could not be faulted for their professionalism.

It was much more of a thing in Italy, much more of a normality than in England.
    Nicklas Bendtner

He added: “What can you say to these guys?

“If you look at their careers and how professional they are, it was a real eye opener to me actually regarding these two.
“Because the professionalism they showed on the pitch and the camaraderie was on a different level, so no one thought anything of [smoking].”
Having struggled to make his mark at Arsenal, the striker spent time with Wolfsburg and Nottingham Forest before returning to Scandinavia.
And Bendtner believes attitudes to smoking in British football are very different to on the continent, with Mario Balotelli and Jack Wilshere criticised when pictured with cigarettes.
He noted: “It’s funny because you remember when Mario Balotelli came to England and everyone said about him smoking in the toilets.

“And it became this massive story in the paper – a player smoking.
“In every single club I’ve played in, players have been smoking.
“It was much more of a thing in Italy, much more of a normality than in England.”

Liverpool star Salah reveals four childhood heroes including Real Madrid boss Zidane after being honoured by Egyptian FA

LIVERPOOL star Mohamed Salah has revealed his four childhood heroes – which includes Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.
The Reds ace – who has tested positive for coronavirus – was being honoured by the Egyptian FA for his inspiring role in the country and his achievements in helping his club win the Premier League and Champions League.

In his speech accepting his award, he paid tributes to the men who he said influenced him in his career.
Kingfut reports Salah said: “It’s a great thing to be honoured in my country. Since I was a child I wanted to improve and to become better.
“I was inspired by plenty of players but above all I was inspired by Zidane, Ronaldo Nazario, Luis Figo and Francesco Totti.
“When I played with Totti I felt that I fulfilled one of my dreams.”

Salah shared a pitch with Totti during the Italian’s final two years playing for Roma between 2015-2017, where the winger began to shine following his struggles at Chelsea.
His two seasons at the Stadio Olympico, where he scored 29 goals, convinced Liverpool to snap him up in the summer of 2017.
It was at Anfield where his reputation ballooned to its current superstar status – and left another one of his heroes in Zidane reportedly wanting to manage him.
Salah also paid tribute to some of his countrymen who inspired him.

He said: “There are also many figures from Egypt that have inspired me.

“Of course Mahmoud El-Khatib is one of these names. Also my previous coach Diaa El-Sayed.
“I advise any parent to not belittle from their child’s dream. My story is the biggest proof.
“I came from a village that is far away from Cairo and used to wake up at 4 in the morning to go to training.

“The support of my family is the reason for what I am living right now.”
Salah was due to take part in Egypt’s double-header with Togo over the international break in African Cup of Nation qualification games.
However, after returning a positive test for coronavirus, the 28-year-old will miss out and is also likely to miss Liverpool’s game against table-toppers Leicester when the Premier League resumes.

How Man Utd and City could line up with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi respectively after possible summer transfers

CRISTIANO RONALDO and Lionel Messi could sensationally continue their rivalry next season – in the Manchester derby.
Both superstars have been linked with moves to England at the end of the current campaign.

⚠️ Read our Man United live blog for the latest news from Old Trafford

Ronaldo, 35, may make a stunning return to the red half of Manchester by heading back to Old Trafford while Messi, 33, remains a target for City.
That could see two stunning front lines square off.
Should Sergio Aguero sign a new contract, it could be a front three of Messi, Aguero and Raheem Sterling in front of Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri and Phil Foden.

The City back four would likely remain similar with Ederson shielded by Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and Benjamin Mendy.
For United, it may well be Ronaldo leading the line, replacing Anthony Martial, and supported by Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood.
Behind them Fred and Scott McTominay are forming a formidable partnership while Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Alex Telles could be the back four if no new centre-back arrives.
Lastly, David De Gea and Dean Henderson look on course to continue to battle it out for the spot between the sticks.

Juventus are keen to cash in before Ronaldo’s contract expires at the end of the 2021-22 season and offload his £540,000-a-week wages.

Messi and Ronaldo’s fight to be crowned the GOAT continues to rage on

Ronaldo is claimed to be ‘considering’ the offer, with Juventus ‘willing to negotiate’ with United.
And Messi could be tempted into a reunion with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.
After almost quitting Barcelona in the summer following a major fall-out with former president Josep Maria Bartomeu, the Argentine made a dramatic U-turn to honour the final year of his contract.
But his future beyond this season remains unclear and he could decide against signing a new contract, instead making himself a free agent as City look to splash the cash on his mammoth wages.
And should both transfers get over the line, fans will be treated to the next instalment of their battle.
Messi and Ronaldo have faced off 33 times with the Barcelona great winning 15, the Portuguese hero nine and nine draws – the six-time Ballon d’Or winner also edges the goals in those head-to-head matches by 21 to 18.
Ronaldo missed out on the chance to face Messi for the first time in a Juventus shirt last month after his positive Covid-19 test and subsequent self-isolation meant he was unavailable for the Champions League clash.
The pair playing together in England will only add further fuel to the ongoing GOAT debate.

Alexis Sanchez at centre of furious row between club and country as Inter Milan blast Chile over poor injury record

INTER MILAN have hit back at ‘offensive’ remarks made by Chile’s national team boss over Alexis Sanchez’s dreadful injury record.
The winger, 31, is once again struggling with a knock and is a doubt for his country’s must-win World Cup qualifiers.

That prompted coach Reinaldo Rueda to claim Inter were treating Sanchez and Chile with a ‘colonial’ attitude.
In response, Inter have accused the South Americans of mishandling the player.
A club statement read: “Inter consider the recent remarks stated by Reinaldo Rueda, the head coach of the Chile national team, to be unacceptable, offensive, and inaccurate.
“The club has always had maximum collaboration and excellent relations with all the staff of the national teams.

“Specifically, in the case of Alexis Sanchez, the player has encountered a physical problem in almost all of his call-ups to his national team.
“In one of them he suffered a serious injury that kept him off the pitch for three months.

We are no longer in colonial times. That’s what they believe, we have to be clear about that.
    Reinaldo RuedaChile Coach

“This represented a serious sporting damage for the club, which has always been attentive and astute to the health of its players.”
Sanchez has managed only three starts for Inter this season and missed a handful of games late last month due to injury.

Last season, the former Arsenal star suffered dislocated ankle tendons on Chile duty and was out for a number of months.
Coach Rueda, 63, can hardly afford to be without his talisman in the upcoming games with Peru and Venezuela.
Chile are winless after a draw and a defeat in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying.
Rueda said ahead of Friday’s meeting with Peru: “I wish [Inter] had listened to us when Alexis traveled, because he arrived and played 45 minutes first and then 90 minutes.

“I wish they had taken care of it like we did here.
“We are no longer in colonial times. That’s what they believe, we have to be clear about that.
“I wish they respected us and our medical staff, because I am proud of the professionalism of the team’s medical staff, which has a very high level.” More

Sinisa Mihajlovic, 51, reveals hospital gave him fake identity as 69-year-old homeless man to treat him for leukaemia

BOLOGNA coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has revealed the fake identity he was given to fight leukaemia.
The former midfielder kept his job with the Serie A team while he overcame the illness last year.

Staff at Bologna’s Hospital Sant’orsola feared that Mihajlovic could attract unwanted attention during the difficult treatment for the disease.
And so he was named Cgikjltfr Drnovsk, a homeless 69-year-old.
Ahead of the launch of his autobiography, Mihajlovic told Corriere della Sera: “I’m the kind of guy who used to talk about winning a war with courage.
“But I was afraid, I cried, and wondered why. I begged for help from God, like everyone else.

“Those who do not make it are not losers. It is not a defeat, it is a damn disease. There is no prescription to recover, or at least I don’t have it.
“You may feel like a warrior, but without doctors you’re not going anywhere. The only thing you can do is not to lose the will to live. The rest does not depend on us.
“I enjoy every moment. I didn’t do it before, I took everything for granted. Health counts, affections count. Nothing else.
“The disease has made me a better man who always tries to see the glass half full. Three days ago I did the tests, blood, lung CT, aspirated marrow. Every time I get anxiety. The next check is in June, then, twice a year.

After the first two rounds of chemo, I looked like a 69-year-old man.
    Sinisa Mihajlovic

“The Hospital Sant’orsola gave me a false identity. I was Cgikjltfr Drnovsk, a homeless 69-year-old.
“It was to prevent attracting curious people who would disturb other patients. After the first two rounds of chemo, I looked like a 69-year-old man.”
Mihajlovic is now cancer-free and healthy having announced his diagnosis in the summer of 2019.
However he remained in charge of the team and delivered a frank phone call to the team while they trailed 3-1 at Brescia in the early weeks of last campaign.
Bologna’s comeback to win 4-3 sparked huge celebrations as the team bus stopped off outside Mihajlovic’s hospital window on the way home.
The Serb, who also battled coronavirus earlier this year, even took a break from chemotherapy to watch his side’s first away game of the 2019-20 season.
And Mihajlovic has recalled how tough it was to turn out for the 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona.
He recalled: “I weighed 75 kilos, I had only 300 white blood cells in my body [but] I implored the doctors to let me go.

Mihajlovic turned out for Bologna’s draw with Verona having only just began chemotherapy

“I almost fell on the floor in front of everyone and a couple of times I was going to.
“I felt the looks of compassion on me in the tunnel. When I saw myself on television, I did not recognize me.
“I wanted to give a message. You shouldn’t be ashamed of illness. You have to show yourself for what you are.”

Juventus and Roma to rival Barcelona for Memphis Depay transfer in January despite Lyon insisting star will not be sold

JUVENTUS and Roma are reportedly ready to rival Barcelona for the signing of Memphis Depay in January – but Lyon continue to insist he will not be sold.
The Dutchman was repeatedly linked with a move to the Nou Camp over the summer but Barcelona couldn’t force through a deal.

If they try again when the window reopens, Sport report the Spanish side could have Juventus and Roma for company – but Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas says nobody is buying Depay in January.
He told RMC: “Nobody listened to me during the transfer window because everybody thought he would leave.
“There is not only Memphis, but also Houssem Aouar and Moussa Dembele.
“From the start, I told you, they will not leave because in a year when we were unfairly deprived of European football, we absolutely have to make a success of the season. So he will stay.”

The issue has arisen again after some cryptic comments from Depay when he was asked about the club’s ambitions this season.
According to Get French Football News, the former Manchester United man said: “The title? That should be our aim.
“Even if I cannot say everything going through my head right now… in terms of what’s happening, what I am seeing at the club, there are things that I honestly can’t say.”
Barcelona are expected to try for Depay again in January after the Catalan club’s financial shortcomings held them back last time.

However, it is believed either Ousmane Dembele or Martin Braithwaite must leave first to ensure Barcelona keep on top of their massive wage bill.
A £95million purchase in 2017, 23-year-old Dembele has struggled to maintain form and fitness.
Meanwhile, emergency February signing Braithwaite, 29, is said to want to stay with the club.
