Top ten ‘selling clubs’ revealed with Benfica kings of the transfer window with £1BILLION earned from players

BENFICA have cashed in a stunning £1billion from selling players over the past decade.
The transfer market has continually grown ever more bonkers and top clubs’ spending has hardly been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

This summer saw ludicrous amounts spent on players by several teams, with those happy to part ways making a big profit.
Leading the way are Benfica with several Serie A, Premier League and LaLiga clubs also doing well in this regard.
Here, SunSport details the top ten selling clubs since the 2009-10 season began, with data collected from Transfermarkt.
Surprisingly, only a few teams managed to make a transfer market profit despite their high price tags…

    #1 – Benfica – £1billion
Not only have the Portuguese giants tipped into ten figures for their transfer income, they have won six league titles in this period.
This summer saw Ruben Dias depart for Manchester City in a £64million deal following previous years’ deals involving Ederson (£35m) and Joao Felix (£101m).
Nemanja Matic (£21m), Axel Witsel (£34m) and Victor Lindelof (£32m) have also bid farewell to reach a mega profit of £539m.
Strangely, this summer saw Benfica spend more than they made with Brazilian prospects Everton, Gilberto and Pedrinho adding to a total £85m outlay.

    #2 – Atletico Madrid – £953million
One club said to be worried by the coronavirus pandemic’s financial crisis are Atletico Madrid.
Alvaro Morata, Santiago Arias and Thomas Partey all left this year amid minimal incomings.
That helped tip Los Rojiblancos into second place of the selling table – although they have spent £45m than they have made since 2009-10.
Top sales include Antoine Griezmann (£107m), Diego Costa (£32m) and Radamel Falcao (£51m).

    #3 – Juventus – £900m
No club on this list has sold more players than Juventus.
A whopping 582 footballers have been moved on by the Italian giants while 591 have arrived, most of which via their massive academy system.
Paul Pogba broke the transfer world record when moving back to Manchester United for £89m in 2016.
Leonardo Bonucci (£37m), Arturo Vidal (£35m) and Moise Kean (£24m) have all been big earners for the Bianconeri.

    #4 – Chelsea – £886m
A Fifa transfer ban saw Frank Lampard switch Chelsea’s focus to young players last year with a massive sell-off occurring at the same time.
The summer of 2019 saw £113m banked by the Blues, a record since Roman Abramovich bought the club.
Eden Hazard remains the most expensive exit from Stamford Bridge at £150m, before Oscar (£52m) and Diego Costa (£50m).
That has partly funded Chelsea’s huge spending spree in the past decade, totalling £1.45billion.

    #5 – Monaco – £868m
Dmitry Rybolovlev’s millions made Monaco a major force for a brief period in the 2010s.
Kylian Mbappe, Thomas Lemar, James Rodriguez and Anthony Martial have all graced the Ligue 1 club, who can now boast one of Europe’s top academies.
Those four players earned a combined £316m when departing the principality.
And Monaco are the only non-Portuguese team to make a profit on this list – perhaps explaining their 17th and ninth-placed finishes in recent seasons.

    #6 – Barcelona – £862m
Quality over quantity is certainly the mantra of sixth-placed Barcelona and seventh-placed Real Madrid in the selling club leaderboard.
A staggering £862m was recouped by the Blaugrana from just 148 players in this period, while they won seven LaLiga titles and two Champions League crowns.
Paris Saint-Germain made Neymar the world’s most expensive player when signing him from Barcelona for £198m in 2017.
The Catalans have still made an overall loss of £613m since 2009-10, the biggest on this list, and now face a financial meltdown.

Barcelona had little choice but to sell Neymar after PSG met his release clauseCredit: AFP or licensors
    #7 – Real Madrid – £823m
Much like their Clasico rivals, Real Madrid pick their market moves very carefully and didn’t even sign anyone in the summer of 2020.
Achraf Hakimi (£36m), Sergio Reguilon (£27m) and Oscar Rodriguez (£12m) all left though with Los Blancos still not a true ‘selling club’.
Nevertheless, Cristiano Ronaldo (£89m) and Angel Di Maria (£59.7m) were fairly chunky sales to flesh out the club’s coffers.
Making up the £823m figure are the departures of only 138 players, compared to Benfica’s 427, with 141 signed by Real.

    #8 – Roma – £788m
If you want to see the quality of players who have passed through the Stadio Olimpico in recent years, just look at the reigning Premier League champions.
Liverpool could not have won the title without Alisson Becker and Mohamed Salah, who cost a combined £92m when signing from Roma.
Radja Nainggolan (£34m) and Kostas Manolas (£32m) have also made healthy profits for the Serie A club.
Amazingly, Roma have only two Coppa Italia trophies to show for this period despite actually making an overall market LOSS of £39m.

    #9 – Porto – £785m
Porto are further proof of Portuguese football’s amazing ability to produce stars and pluck talent from South America.
Eder Militao (£44.5m), that man Rodriguez (£42m), Hulk (£35m) and Eliaquim Mangala (£32m) were all brought in as youngsters and moved on for big margins.
Second only to Benfica, the Primeira Liga side have snapped up a £393m profit in the past ten seasons.
And their rivalry has yielded a share of the spoils with Porto taking five league crowns and a Europa League in this period.

Porto certainly got the better end of the deal to take Eliaquim Mangala to Manchester CityCredit: Times Newspapers Ltd

    #10 – Liverpool – £730m
Jurgen Klopp’s success as Liverpool manager has arrived following the clear end to the Reds’ days as a selling club.
The German’s side was built with the cash made from Philippe Coutinho (£130m), Luis Suarez (£72m) and Raheem Sterling (£57m).
Extra money was banked this summer with Rhian Brewster (£18m) and Dejan Lovren (£11m) allowed to leave.
And the significant investment in Liverpool’s title winning side means a market loss of £294m has been racked up – something Reds fans will agree was very much worth it.

And she admits she initially IGNORED the former Chelsea man… only to end up engaged less than a year later.
In an interview with the weekly, Alice, 25, said: “He had seen a picture of me and asked many people if they knew me, to introduce us, but we had no friends in common.
“So he wrote to me (on Instagram). I answered him after a long time and, in the end, we met.
“When I met him, he struck me because I immediately knew he was very serious.

“For example, two weeks after our first date, he drove eight hours to meet my family, and returned to Turin very late, even though he had to train early the next day.
“This and a thousand other gestures. ”
She continued: “His friends and family had never seen him like this and he kept telling me he wanted to marry me: in the end, he asked me eight months after we started dating.

“It’s been almost five years and three children.

“I think it is like this when you really fall in love: you change priorities and you just want to build something with the person you love.
“For me it was the same.”
Morata had already returned to his homeland with Real Madrid by the time he popped the question, during a magic show.
And Alice has since followed him to London during his uninspiring stint with Chelsea, back to Madrid with Atletico… before ultimately going full circle for his second spell with Juve.
The couple have twins, Leonardo and Alessandro, and a few weeks ago announced the birth of their third child, Edoardo.
They tied the knot just in June, getting married in Venice in front of a star studded audience including Isco and Simone Zaza.

Eriksen reveals girlfriend is pregnant with second child but insists birth WON’T wreck Euros plans like last time

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN’S girlfriend Sabrina Kvist is pregnant with their second child.
But the Danish midfielder said the new baby will not interrupt next summer’s Euros like his first kid did with the 2018 World Cup.

Eriksen did a ‘pregnancy’ celebration after he scored during Denmark’s 2-1 Nations League victory against Iceland on Sunday.
And then he confirmed it was because his partner was pregnant on Instagram.
He posted the picture of him with the ball up his shirt.
And the Inter Milan playmaker captioned the post: “Not the best game, but a great result in the end!

“And yes Sabrina is pregnant, again! But dont worry Denmark, its planned a lot better this time. #ce10 #fordenmark”
The post received more than 230,000 likes.
And the last comment relates to the 2018 World Cup when he left a training camp before the tournament when his first son Alfie was born.
Former Danish head coach Age Hareide allowed his star man to travel home and Denmark fans will hope the same does not happen again for next summer’s Euros.

In 2019, Eriksen was forced to rubbish online rumours that Sabrina had cheated on him with married former team-mate Jan Vertonghen.
The ex-Tottenham ace took to Twitter to blast the story as “bulls***” but the false claims upset Sabrina, 29.
Mum Sabrina sacrificed her own life in Denmark to move to London, ditching her hairdressing career to become a WAG when Eriksen signed for Tottenham in 2012.

Jorginho’s agent reveals Chelsea star could follow Maurizio Sarri to new club with transfer as he keeps tabs on old boss

CHELSEA ace Jorginho could follow old boss Maurizio Sarri to his next club, according to the midfielder’s agent.
The 28-year-old was a favourite of Sarri’s during the 61-year-old’s Stamford Bridge reign and Joao Santos says the pair could soon link up again.

Sarri only spent a year in West London – managing the Blues for the 2018-19 season.
And Italian international Jorginho was the first name on the team sheet after Sarri signed him from Napoli – where he also managed him.
Sarri left the Blues for Juventus in the summer of 2019 where he also only lasted a year despite winning Serie A.
⚽ Read our Chelsea live blog for the very latest news from the Bridge

The maverick boss is now without a club but Santos says his client is keeping tabs on Sarri’s next move.
He told Italian outlet Calciomercato: “Jorginho has a personal and professional bond with the coach that is very strong.
“We’re waiting to see where Sarri goes, and if it’s a big club in Italy, Jorginho could follow him.
“Almost all the Italy players are in Serie A, as it’s an important league, but his journey took him to London.

“If Sarri had remained, perhaps he’d have joined Juventus.”

Despite the transfer bombshell, Santos also admitted Jorginho – who played under Sarri at Napoli before they were both employed by Chelsea – is enjoying life under Frank Lampard.
He added: “He’s very happy with Lampard and Chelsea can do even better than last season.”
Lampard recently axed Jorginho as the club’s penalty taker – replacing him with Timo Werner.

Claudio Marchisio begs Man Utd star Paul Pogba to return to Juventus in sensational transfer to ‘be happy again’

CLAUDIO MARCHISIO has begged Paul Pogba to make a sensational return to Juventus to be ‘happy again’.
Pogba, 27, spent four successful years with the Old Lady between 2012 and 2016 before his record-breaking £89million move back to Manchester United.

But he revealed during the current international break that this season has been ‘the most difficult period in my career’.
And his former Juventus team-mate Marchisio called on the Frenchman to head back to Turin and rediscover his joy again.
Pogba and Marchisio won four Serie A titles and two Coppa Italias together in four years.
The Italian – who spent 25 years on the books at Juve – replied to a tweet Pogba sent on Monday reading: “Head up, look forward,” along with a photo of himself in mid air during France training.

Marchisio wrote: “Please @paulpogba come to @juventusfc… you will be happy again – me too,” along with a series of emojis including a wink face.
Pogba opened up on how tough he is finding life at the moment with his comments while away with world champions France.
He said: “I had never known such a difficult period in my career.
“The France team is a breath of fresh air, the group is exceptional, it’s magic.”

Despite being fully fit all season, Pogba has started just five of United’s 12 matches this season, managing a goal in the Carabao Cup and assists against Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.
The two matches he completed the full 90 minutes were the home defeats against Spurs and Arsenal, conceding penalties in both.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer overlooked Pogba for the crunch game at Everton last time out when he desperately needed a win, instead opting for Fred and Scott McTominay to sit in midfield behind Bruno Fernandes.
Pogba’s national team boss Didier Deschamps recognised his midfielder’s current dip and cited the struggles at Old Trafford.
He said: “He’s not in his best form, of course.
“It’s hard to remember to be positive. Obviously, he’s not in one of his better periods.
“Like all players who have a club situation that is not positive, they are also impacted mentally. I know him well enough and it can happen at some points.
“We cannot, however, say that he is fulfilled in what he does at his club.”

Arsenal ‘offered Christian Eriksen in swap transfer for Granit Xhaka’ as Inter look to offload ex-Tottenham flop

ARSENAL could bring Christian Eriksen back to North London in a swap deal involving Granit Xhaka, according to reports.
Inter Milan are considering selling the Dane only a year after signing him from Tottenham.

The idea of swapping the Dane for Granit Xhaka has been floated in ItalyCredit: Getty Images – Getty

According to Corriere dello Sport, Eriksen will be put up for sale in January unless he can pull of a considerable turnaround under coach Antonio Conte.
The pair have sparked a war of words in the media with the midfielder speaking of his disappointment at being left out the side.
The 28-year-old has started just 12 Serie A games for the club and is yet to register a goal or assist in 2020-21.
That has led to Inter reportedly seeking a good return on their £17million signing.

One idea that is said to be under consideration at the Giuseppe Meazza is a swap with Arsenal for Granit Xhaka.
Conte wants to bring a defensive midfielder to Milan but first-choice signing N’Golo Kante is not available from Chelsea.
Xhaka, 28, is seen as a good alternative and Inter may be able to convince the Swiss star to move given Thomas Partey’s increased prominence in the Gunners’ side.
No bid has been launched yet and Eriksen is still thought to have time to improve before Inter commit to a sale.

Tuesday’s Corriere dello Sport links Eriksen to the Gunners
Should the deal be completed, the ex-Spurs star will join a select group of players to turn out for both North London clubs – including Pat Jennings, Emmanuel Adebayor and Sol Campbell.
During the international break, he complained to Danish media that his move to Inter has been far from perfect.
He told TV2: “This isn’t what I dreamt of.
“All players want to play as much as possible, but the coach decides who gets to go on the pitch.
“It is a strange situation, as the fans want to see me playing more and so would I, but the coach has different ideas and as a player I have to respect that.”
He later added: “I don’t want to sit on the bench for the whole season. I hope this isn’t the coach’s or the club’s intention.”

Inter boss Conte has been unapologetic in rotating Eriksen in and out his side, with the playmaker only completing the full 90 minutes twice during his Serie A stay.
He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “All the choices I make are always and only for the good of Inter, not for that of the individual player.
“I am a hammer, but this is the only way to grow. Without a culture of victory, you can never get to success, but that comes through work and discipline.
“When I leave Inter one day, I hope in the distant future, I am sure of one thing: the Inter I will leave will be better than the one I found, from all points of view. That has always happened in every club I have been to.”
