Arsenal ‘to be offered Christian Eriksen in swap transfer for Granit Xhaka’ after ex-Spurs star’s flop Inter spell

INTER MILAN are keen to offer Arsenal a swap deal involving Christian Eriksen and Granit Xhaka, reports say.
Eriksen arrived in Milan last January after he forced through an exit from Tottenham.

The Dane was considered a coup for Inter but he has struggled to hold down a regular spot in Antonio Conte’s side, making just four starts this season.
As a result, his future at the San Siro appears up in the air with Inter said to already be open to selling.
According to Tuttosport, Inter will look to recoup £27million for the playmaker, but a swap deal is a possible alternative.
It is added that they could offer Eriksen, 28, to Arsenal in a bid to land Xhaka, also 28, in exchange.

But it is understood the former Spurs star would have reservations over a move to their arch rivals.
And he is also opposed to a loan move having struggled to settle in Italy.
Eriksen’s ex-Denmark manager Age Hareide previosuly blasted Conte’s ‘completely wrong’ treatment of the midfielder.
He said: “First of all, I think it’s a shame for Christian.

“But I also think it’s completely wrong that Conte is keeping him out so much.
“In my opinion, he is good enough to play for Inter.
“He proved to be an important player, both for Denmark and for Tottenham in the Premier League, where he was a key player.
“Christian and his agent need to figure this out. But it is clear that the situation is in no way optimal.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to play with Paolo Maldini’s GRANDSON after stepping on pitch with his teenage son Daniel

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC wants to play with Paolo Maldini’s GRANDSON after appearing next to his son Daniel for AC Milan.
The Swedish icon has lined up with or against two generations of Milan legend Maldini’s family and is hoping to bag the hat-trick in years to come.

Ibrahimovic, 39, is top scorer in Serie A with ten goals from eight games so far this season ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku.
And the former Sweden international is looking to play on for as long as possible having played in the top division of seven countries during his 21 year senior career.
Zlatan never played on the same team as Maldini senior, 52, having signed for Milan the first time a year after the Italian had retired in 2009.
But he did play against him in Serie A and this season lined up with his son Daniel, 19, for Milan.

Ibrahimovic told BBC Sport: “I feel like I’ve been here different generations.
“I played against Paolo Maldini and now I’m playing with his son, Daniel.
“Hopefully I can play with Daniel’s son also, that would be a miracle.”
Ibrahimovic’s agent Mino Raiola recently backed his man to play until he is 50 after revealing the striker does press-ups while he sits on his back.

And the Swede said he is adapting his game to ensure his longevity.
He added: “I have a lot of experience, goals have never been an issue, I just keep going.
“I’m not the same player I was five years ago, I’m not the same player I was 10 years ago, we all change because of the development in your physical point of view.
“I’m honest in saying that I’m not running like I ran before; I’m running more intelligent now.
“The Italian league, the reason I say that it’s the most difficult to play in for a striker is because it’s very technical and the philosophy of Italy is to not to concede a goal rather than score a goal.”

Inside Cristiano Ronaldo’s home with huge Christmas tree and Santa Claus as Georgina Rodriguez gets into festive spirit

CRISTIANO RONALDO is clearly getting into the Christmas spirit as his partner Georgina Rodriguez revealed their huge tree and a Santa Claus dummy dressed in white.
The massive Father Christmas sat perfectly on his festive seat, guarding two presents, one appearing to be a luxury Dior box.

Georgina Rodriguez revealed a Santa Claus dummy dressed all in white

Rodriquez then revealed the couple’s sparkling tree, and a personalised cushion with the couple’s initials

The Santa is dressed all in white, in what looks like a towelling robe.
He appears to have a polar bear and two small seal cubs at his feet.
Rodriquez then revealed the couple’s sparkling tree, dressed up in silver and gold with bright lights.
Towards the back of the room, flashing reindeer, snowmen and presents sat on a shelve.

Ronaldo’s Turin home is made up by two adjoining villas, which can be found on a private road guarded by security, which leads to an entrance gate.
The villas themselves have separate entrances, surrounded by lush gardens and vegetation.
Ronaldo has lived in some amazing homes during his playing career, including mansions in Manchester and Madrid.
The 35-year-old also has a holiday home in the Costa del Sol, which reportedly cost him £1.4million.

All of his amazing properties are fitted with state of the art gym facilities, to help Ronaldo maintain his stunning physique.
His former Manchester United team-mate Dimitar Berbatov can vouch for how hard the Portugal captain works, and said training alongside him was ‘like a war’.

Berbatov told Marca: “I’ve been a lucky guy to share that season together.
“He took extreme care of himself. You came to train and he was already in the gym.
“Then he would stay to do extra work shooting on goal. He would finish, and he would go swimming and go back to the gym.
“He was determined to be the best. Training with him was like a war , because I didn’t think about anything other than winning everything, including the little games we organised.”

Paolo Rossi made a generation of school kids fall in love with football after Italy legend’s World Cup heroics vs Brazil

THE greatest football match you ever witnessed and the one which compelled you to love the game?
The finest individual World Cup performance of all time?

The Azzurri legend has died at the age of 64Credit: Rex Features

    Well if you’re aged somewhere between 45 and 55, I’d be surprised if your answers aren’t Italy 3 Brazil 2 on July 5, 1982 – and Paolo Rossi’s hat-trick.
Rossi’s death at the age of 64 has been met with fulsome tributes from former team-mates, friends, family and Italy’s prime minister.
Yet even to those who never met him, and who knew little of his career outside of that sun-drenched Spanish summer when the Azzurri won the World Cup and Rossi claimed the Golden Boot, the great Italian is forever frozen in time.
He is there, in our mind’s eye, on that Barcelona afternoon, when he vanquished a Brazilian team who were World Cup favourites and one of the most thrilling teams in history.

Part of the indelible magic was that the match, which Italy needed to win to progress to the semi-finals at Brazil’s expense, kicked off in late afternoon, just as we’d arrived home from school.
That World Cup, the first I watched, remains extraordinarily vivid and exotic to any football fan old enough to remember it.
Live football on the television every day was an absolute novelty back then, such glorious gluttony.
Many of my age have commented on the colours of the kits – Italy’s azure blue and Brazil’s marigold yellow.

Even a 0-0 draw between Peru and Cameroon is a spectacle when one team wears white with a red sash the other lot are in green shirts, red shorts and yellow socks.
But marvelling at the Brazil of Zico, Socrates and Falcao had been the highlight until that life-affirming Monday teatime.
Italy had been brutish and defensive until then, and Rossi had not scored in four matches.
Although Italy needed the win, the idea that they might go for the Brazilian jugular seemed unlikely, perhaps suicidal.
Yet three times, Rossi put them in front – a back-post header, a predatory interception and finish, then an instinctive swivel on the six-yard line for the winner.
Having entranced the world, Rossi went on to score twice against Poland in the semi-final, then grabbed the opening goal of the final, a 3-1 win against West Germany, to claim the Golden Boot.

Wide-eyed schoolkids had little idea that Rossi had just returned, controversially, after his ban for a match-fixing scandal had been reduced.

That Rossi, the player of the tournament in 1982, should die before his time, just a fortnight after Diego Maradona, the undisputed winner of that award in 1986, had done the same, is a cruel reminder of the mortality of football’s supposed immortals.
Wide-eyed schoolkids had little idea that Rossi had just returned, controversially, for the World Cup, after his ban for being caught up in a match-fixing scandal had been reduced from three years to two.
He always maintained his innocence and ignorance of that domestic match-fixing farrago – but what a remarkable back-story to Espana 82 that provided.
Rossi would win six major trophies with Juventus, including the European Cup at Heysel in 1985, and score 154 goals in 299 games for club and country.

So that World Cup was certainly no flash in the pan.
Yet, even on their own, Rossi’s exploits against Brazil would certainly have been enough.
That a generation of kids should come home from school on a Monday afternoon and fall in love. I mean, how good is that?

Watch Romelu Lukaku BLOCK goal-bound Alexis Sanchez header in dying seconds as Inter Milan crash out of Champions League

ROMELU LUKAKU unbelievably blocked Alexis Sanchez’s last-minute goal-bound header as Inter Milan crashed out of the Champions League.
The Serie A side finished bottom of Group B following the 0-0 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk – who were also knocked out.

The Italian giants huffed and puffed for 90 minutes at the San Siro desperately trying to find the winner they needed to progress.
And when Antonio Conte’s side were eventually granted the clearest of chances, in the dying seconds, they were denied by main man Lukaku.
With 88 minutes on the clock, fellow ex-Man Utd frontman Sanchez leapt highest to meet a corner and produced a bullet header destined for the back of the net.
But instead it clattered into the face of Lukaku, who was standing in an offside position.

Inter Milan, who thumped Shakhtar 5-0 in last season’s Europa League semi-finals in August, needed to win to qualify.
They also had to see the other match, between Real Madrid and Borussia Moenchengladbach, not end in a draw.
As Madrid won that game 2-0, Monchengladbach needed Inter’s game to end as a draw to see them go through.
And incredible footage showed the Bundesliga side huddled at the side of the pitch after full-time, watching the end of Inter’s game on a tablet.

    — Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) December 9, 2020

Lautaro Martinez nearly got the early breakthrough they needed but his shot thumped against the crossbar from Nicolo Barella’s cross.
After that, Inter forced a succession of corners and tried their luck from long range but gave Shakhtar’s 19-year-old goalkeeper Anatolii Trubin little worry about.
Lukaku saw a header stopped by Trubin after the break before Shakhtar – who also required a win to qualify – began to mount some attacks of their own.
Tete, one of six Brazilian-born players in Shakhtar’s starting line-up, tested Samir Handanovic with a fizzing long-range shot and Maycon sent the rebound over the bar.
Trubin pushed a Christian Eriksen drive out from under the bar in stoppage time as Inter’s European season came to an underwhelming conclusion.
It is the third season in a row that Inter Milan have been knocked out in the group stages.
And they have no European football to look forward to in the New Year, as a draw meant Shakhtar took third spot, and a consolation place in the Europa League knockout stages.

ARSENAL outcast Mesut Ozil is reportedly now leaning towards a move to DC United – where he can better manage his business activities.

And with his contract expiring at the end of the season, suitors are now lining up to register their interest in Ozil.
According to DHA, Washington’s DC United are the latest to offer the 32-year-old a fresh proposal.
It is claimed Ozil is ‘most serious’ about a move to America over anything else as it could offer him the chance to expand his off-filed ventures.
The midfielder is said to believe that the e-sports team M10 Esports and his own M10 Streetwear collection will better manage their business activities Stateside.

In addition, DC United have reportedly offered Ozil the chance to establish an M10 Football Academy in the US, something he is keen on following up on.
Despite the development, the former Real Madrid star is also said to have offers from Saudi Arabia and Italy.
Meanwhile, Turkish giants Fenerbahce were linked with a January move for Ozil.

Fenerbahce’s club congress member Murat Zorlu claims Ozil is closing in on a move in January.

He told Sport Digitale: “A source, who’s very well connected to the club has told me that Mesut Ozil is likely to become a Fenerbahce player during the next transfer window.
“I would say 90 per cent he will join us in one month.”
The former Germany international has family roots from Turkey despite representing Die Mannschaft 92 times, winning the World Cup in 2014.
He is also close friends with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and has been accused of endorsing his bid for re-election.
The playmaker has not featured for the North London club since March 7.
But he was still locked in a war of words with loud mouth Piers Morgan on Monday after Ozil posted a picture of himself in front of thousands of fans at the Emirates.

He added the caption: “The feeling of having fans behind you… #grateful #bestfans #hardtimes.”
The Good Morning Britain presenter, who is an Arsenal fan, was quick to respond saying: “Real Arsenal fans aren’t behind you.
“You’re our Paul Pogba – massively overpaid, massively under-performing & shockingly overinflated sense of your own importance. #truth.”
Ozil then hit back: “Piers, buddy, are you still bitter from the other day? It seems like you’re not a big fan of World Champions.
“I wish you would see as good as you hear things.”

Christian Eriksen is being ‘humiliated’ by Antonio Conte at Inter Milan, blasts his former Denmark manager Age Hareide

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN is being “humiliated” by Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte, his ex-Denmark manager claims.
Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with former Tottenham midfielder Eriksen, who has played just six minutes of Inter’s last four Serie A games.

Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte has been accused of treating Christian Eriksen ‘completely wrong’ by ex-Denmark chief Age HareideCredit: Getty Images – Getty

And after the 103-cap Dane only came on in stoppage time during Saturday’s 3-1 win over Bologna, Age Hareide blasted Conte’s treatment of the 28-year-old.
The Rosenborg manager, who bossed Denmark from 2016 until April this year, said:  “First of all, I think it’s a shame for Christian.
“But I also think it’s completely wrong that Conte is keeping him out so much.”
‘CHRISTIAN AND AGENT MUST FIGURE THIS OUT’
Hareide believes it was “humiliating” for Eriksen to be used so late as second-placed Inter eased home against mid-table Bologna.

FCInter quote him as saying: “In my opinion, he is good enough to play for Inter.
“He proved to be an important player, both for Denmark and for Tottenham in the Premier League, where he was a key player.”
And of the 28-year-old’s situation ahead of the transfer window, Hareide said: “Christian and his agent need to figure this out.
“But it is clear that the situation is in no way optimal.”

Eriksen himself spiced up the saga with a curious Facebook post after his three minutes of action against Bologna.

Alongside a landscape photo of just himself in training gear, he wrote: “Alone.”
And in a follow-up message, he said: “I want to thank the fans for this great support.
“I was pleased with this great support and would like to say Forza Inter.”

They have come against each other 35 times, with Messi winning six more, scoring 22 times, three greater than Ronaldo.
And according to The Mail, the Argentine is ‘desperate’ to line up against his competition once more.
Messi has been rested for Barca’s last two Champions League matches, where they beat Dynamo Kiev 4-0 and Ferencvaros 3-0.
But the forward is expected to be recalled for the mammoth match against Juve.

They need just a point to top the group, having beaten the Serie A champions earlier in the campaign, with Messi on the scoresheet.
But Ronaldo, 35, missed out in the tie due to coronavirus, meaning he has not played against Messi, 33, since 2018.
The debate will long rage on between who is the superior talent between the iconic duo.
And Barca boss Ronald Koeman was in no mood to settle the argument either – instead opting to admire the pair equally.

How Ronaldo and Messi compare statistically in their careers

He said: “It’s fantastic that these two players have been so long at this top level in the world.
“They are the best players, in my opinion, in the last 10-15 years. Being successful all this time is incredible.
“It’s a great compliment to those players.
“They are different, but they have incredible stats about scoring goals, hat-tricks, about winning prizes.
“It’s not nice to say who is better because both are incredible, I admire both players because they gave us so many nice evenings with great goals, with great titles.”
