Rabiot arrived on a free transfer from PSG in 2019 but could be let go to raise funds at the Allianz StadiumCredit: Getty
But it has not worked out as expected with just two Premier League starts.
Now Tuttosport in Italy state the Old Trafford club are looking to ship Van de Beek out – and bring Rabiot in instead.
Juventus were keen on the 19-cap international last summer before his move to Manchester.
And United hope they have retained that interest a year on – then would also be willing to let Rabiot leave.
The French midfielder, 26, joined the Old Lady on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
He has racked up 74 appearances for the Italian giants and still has two years left on his deal.
Van de Beek, a slightly more forward-thinking player, has a current market value of £31.5m according to Transfermarkt, while Rabiot’s is £28.8m.
But Juventus’ financial state may mean they would rather sell the player who has also been linked with Chelsea, Everton and Manchester City.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has opted for Bruno Fernandes as his No10 this season, admitted after the recent international break he is desperate to get £125,000-a-week Van de Beek involved more before the end of the season.
The Red Devils have eight Premier League games left and are still hopeful of winning the Europa League.
Solskjaer said: “Donny scored some absolute crackers when we were all back in training on Friday.
“He scored some absolute top, top goals that I’d be really proud of myself and it’s done him the world of good, going away and scoring a goal for Holland.
“We hope we can see a lot of that for the next eight weeks of the season and then to kick on again.”

How Inter Milan could have lined up with Lionel Messi in 2006 after having mind-boggling £225m transfer bid rejected

INTER MILAN could have changed the course of football’s history if they had landed Lionel Messi in 2006 for a staggering £225million.The Serie A giants were unsuccessful with an audacious bid to wrestle the Argentine maestro away from Barcelona aged just 19.
How Inter Milan could have lined up if they had signed Lionel Messi for £225m in 2006
The Italian side offered nearly FIVE times more than the world record transfer fee at the time to try and add Messi to their star-studded line-up.
The £46.6m Real Madrid paid for Zinedine Zidane was still leading the way 15 years ago.
Messi could have slotted into an Inter side coached by former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini.
The Barca skipper could have landed himself a role on the right wing with another former Catalan giant in Luis Figo on the left.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still banging in the goals for AC Milan as he approaches his 40th birthday in October.
But back then the Swede was strutting his stuff for arch rivals Inter at the San Siro.
And he formed a dynamic strike partnership with ex-Chelsea star and Messi’s compatriot Hernan Crespo.
Club stalwart Javier Zanetti was a regular in central midfield as well as at full-back and was often partnered by Arsenal invincibles skipper Patrick Vieira.

At right-back Brazilian Maicon bombed down the wing but would later be remembered for the way he was dismantled by a rampaging Gareth Bale.
Fabio Grosso was the Inter left-back fresh from the summer of his life after he scored the penalty that won Italy the 2006 World Cup in the final shoot-out against France.
Another man who made headlines at that year’s World Cup was Marco Materazzi after he was headbutted by Zidane in the final.
The Italian centre-back formed a solid partnership with Colombian Ivan Cordoba in the heart of the defence.
Between the sticks was former Brazilian No1 Julio Cesar.

Juventus came into the game level on points with fifth-placed Napoli and manager Pirlo on the brink.
Reports in Italy said Pirlo was in line for the sack if they failed to win on Wednesday night.
But a first-half strike by Ronaldo and second-half goal from Paulo Dybala secured three vital points.
Lorenzo Insigne scored a penalty in injury time but it proved to be only s consolation as Juve celebrated an important win.
The Old Lady crashed out the Champions League to Porto and patience with Pirlo is running thin, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Club president Andrea Agnelli even held talks with former boss Max Allegri at the weekend.
However, with the club in a transition period, many have called for Pirlo to be supported.
Former Juve ace Fabio Cannavaro said: “Protect Andrea [Pirlo], look how [Napoli boss Gennaro] Gattuso has grown.”

Last month Allegri’s mentor Giovanni Galeone revealed the Italian – who was was Juve boss between 2014 and 2019 – rejected job offers from Arsenal and Chelsea.
He also turned down approaches from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Galeone – whose own managerial career spanned 32 years and 16 teams – said: “The reason is simple: due to some serious family problems with his mother, he had to say no to major clubs.
“Max has said no to Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid. Now he wants to go back and he wants a first-class club. He also rejected PSG.
“He rejected Real because he had previously declined the clubs already mentioned. I said to him: ‘But how can you reject such an important club?’

“Max’s response surprised me: ‘I’m not a clown. If I said no to other clubs, I can’t accept another offer after only ten days, I’m not a clown.’
“Allegri is an honest man, a gentleman and a great professional.”
Chelsea were looking for Maurizio Sarri’s replacement in the summer of 2019 – with the Italian taking over from Allegri at Juventus – before appointing Frank Lampard.
And Mikel Arteta came in following Unai Emery’s dismissal at Arsenal at the end of the year.

Chelsea ‘prepared to launch £86m Romelu Lukaku transfer offer’ if they fail to land £154m Erling Haaland from Dortmund

CHELSEA are reportedly prepared to offer £86MILLION for Romelu Lukaku if they can’t sign Erling Haaland. The Blues are said to be looking at another striker with Timo Werner struggling to adapt to the Premier League.

But only if they fail to land No 1 target Erling HaalandCredit: Getty
Borussia Dortmund star Haaland is said to be top of their wishlist.
But the 20-year-old is one of Europe’s hottest properties and competition for the £154m valued star is set to be fierce.
As a result, the West Londoners are planning an £86m bid for Inter Milan striker Lukaku as Plan B, according to Calciomercato.
The Belgian had an unsuccessful spell at Stamford Bridge between 2011 and 2014 – where he failed to score a goal – but the Blues are not deterred.
Earlier this week, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel refused to rule out a move for Haaland.
Haaland’s dad Alf-Inge and agent Mino Raiola – who could bag up to £25m from any deal – have held discussions with Real Madrid and Barcelona in Spain before heading to England to meet with Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.
But Tuchel did not give anything away when quizzed on any potential meeting between Haaland’s representatives and the Blues.
The German said: “I will not answer that, out of respect for the player and for Borussia Dortmund.

“He’s a Borussia Dortmund player, and of course there’s big news around him and his agent. And it seems like they are creating a race for the player.
“But still everybody needs to accept, and I will fully accept, that he is a Borussia Dortmund player, a very promising player of course.
“But with respect to the situation, he’s not in our squad, he’s not in our club so there’s no comment on anything else regarding him.”
Chelsea have also been heavily linked with a move for Man City legend Sergio Aguero on a free transfer.
The Argentine will leave City at the end of the season when his contract expires after a ten-year stay at the Etihad.
A vast array of clubs are linked with an offer, including Prem rivals Arsenal.
Despite turning 33 in the coming summer, and enduring a disappointing season in terms of fitness and form, Aguero is said to want a move to a top club.
Stamford Bridge is described as a ‘tempting’ destination, along with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
Any club bidding for his services would not have to pay a transfer fee, leading to a sizeable wage demand – around £250k-a-week.

Arsenal and Chelsea in Hakan Calhanoglu free transfer race as Man Utd target’s contract runs down at AC Milan

ARSENAL and Chelsea are in the transfer race for Hakan Calhanoglu, according to reports. The AC Milan midfielder, 27, is out of contract at the end of the season so will become a free agent this summer.

And according to Sky Sport Italia, the Premier League pair are battling it out to land the Turkish international with both making offers.
But they face competition from Serie A giants Juventus.
The Old Lady are in pole position to secure Calhanoglu and will table a better deal as soon as they are officially allowed.
AC Milan tried to get Calhanoglu to extend his four-year stay at the San Siro.
But while they offered a new deal worth £66,000 per week, the former Bayer Leverkusen man wants in excess of £82,500 per week.
Calhanoglu is yet to decide where he wants to play his football next season.
Last season, Turkish paper Fanatik quoted the playmaker saying: “God willing, I will be a Chelsea player next season.”
But he denied the comments and insisted he had not discussed Chelsea talks with the press.

Calhanoglu – once a Manchester United target – is in his prime aged 27 and has racked up 163 appearances for Milan.
This season, the 55-cap international has seven goals and 11 assists in 34 games.
Transfermarkt value the soon-to-be free agent – who can play in the No10 or wide on the left – at £31.5million.
Once dubbed as the ‘new Mesut Ozil’, Calhanoglu could fill the playmaker spot under Mikel Arteta at the Emirates vacated by the German.
Martin Odegaard arrived in January on loan from Real Madrid and the Gunners hope to make a permanent deal in the summer – but Calhanoglu is another option.
But the Turk would face stronger competition for a place under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea with the likes of Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz all vying to play behind the central striker.

Zinedine Zidane drops sensational Juventus hint as Real Madrid boss says Serie A giants ‘always important to me’

ZINEDINE ZIDANE dropped a huge hint he wants to manage Juventus. The Real Madrid boss confessed the Italian giants will ‘always be important to me’.
Zidane Zidane hinted he may hope to manage Juventus one dayCredit: EPA
Zidane, 48, spent five seasons as a player with the Old Lady between 1996 and 2001.
And asked whether he missed Italy and would return there as a manager, he certainly did not rule it out.
The Frenchman said: “Italy is always in the heart. Juve has always been important to me.
“I don’t know (laughs). For now I’m here. Let’s see.”
Current Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo is fighting for his job with the reigning Serie A champions fourth in the table, 12 points adrift of leaders Inter, and dumped out of the Champions League by Porto.
Zidane hung up his boots in 2006 before returning to Real Madrid in an advisory role.
He then became sporting director in 2011 and two years later, assistant coach to Carlo Ancelotti.
After 18 months in charge of the Real Madrid Castilla, Zidane took on the role of first-team head coach in January 2016 and famously won a hat-trick of Champions Leagues.

The 1998 Ballon d’Or winner quit in May 2018 but was back in the Bernabeu dugout within ten months and boasts an impressive overall record of 166 wins in 251 matches.
He made the comments on Tuesday night following the first leg of Real’s Champions League quarter-final with Liverpool.
Two goals from Vinicius Junior and a Marco Asensio strike saw Los Blancos to a 3-1 win in Madrid.
And unsurprisingly Zidane was full of praise for his team, especially the goalscorers.
He added to Sky Italia: “We can be happy with the game we played but there is a return and we have to finish the job.
“But, I repeat, we can be happy with tonight’s race because we ran a complete race.
“I’m happy for Vinicius because he has missed the goal a bit. He scored two tonight and it’s big to score in the Champions League. I’m happy for him and for the team.
“Asensio has scored four games [in a row]. For us it is very important to create for scoring chances and to score. Tonight we did it. We could have scored even more goals.”

But according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, it does not kick in until July 2022.
And that could have the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona on red alert to make a major swoop at the end of next season.
De Ligt joined Juventus from Ajax for £67.5m in 2019 and is seen as a key player at the Allianz Stadium.
He has made 64 appearances for the Serie A club since penning the five-year contract and settling quickly in Turin.
The Dutch star is seen as a leader in the heart of the defence and could see the Juve back line built around him for the next decade.
But the crippling financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic has hit the Old Lady hard.
Sales are expected this summer with Paulo Dybala and even Cristiano Ronaldo potentially axed to raise cash.
And should Juve’s accounts fail to recover and no new contract sorted to take the release clause out, they may be forced to let 2018 Golden Boy De Ligt go.

Matthijs de Ligt has a release clause into his contract with Juventus [around €150m]. But it’s gonna be valid only starting from July 2022, as Erling Haaland clause with Borussia Dortmund. Juventus want to keep de Ligt this summer, he’s considered as key player. 🔴🇳🇱 #Juventus— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) April 5, 2021

Spanish outlet Todofichajes claimed in March United have made signing the centre-half their ‘top priority’.
It’s said the Old Trafford brass have opted to pursue De Ligt’s signature after deciding against moves for Real Madrid duo Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.
But they would have to smash their own world-record fee paid for a defender after splashing out £85m on Harry Maguire in 2019.
Barcelona were heavily linked with De Ligt before he joined Juventus.
The Catalan giants signed his close pal and Ajax team-mate Frenkie de Jong in the same summer and Ronald Koeman would be desperate to reunite them at the Nou Camp.
