And now the 35-year-old has won the title with Inter, he is in talks for a second spell at Vicarage Road with the newly-promoted Premier League outfit.
Young came through the youth set-up at Watford before making his first team debut in 2003.
He went on to play 110 times for the Hornets and was a part of Aidy Boothroyd’s 2005-06 Championship side which gained promotion to the Premier League.
Watford were relegated in their first campaign back in the top flight under Boothroyd, a demotion that led to Young’s departure.
He joined Aston Villa for five seasons and then moved on to Manchester United where he would remain for nine years.
Young has only spent two years at Inter but according to Sky Sports is currently discussing personal terms with Watford as he seeks to agree a one-year deal.
Watford secured their Premier League return at the first time of asking after clinching automatic promotion from the Championship.
Xisco Muñoz’s side finished the campaign in second place, six points behind champions Norwich.

Watford have already been active in the transfer market by sweeping in to sign forward Ashley Fletcher on a free transfer from Middlesbrough.
The 25-year-old former Manchester United prodigy has agreed a five-year deal to move to Vicarage Road when his contract expires next month.
Fletcher leaves Boro after a rollercoaster four years that were hindered by injuries following his £6million arrival from West Ham.
He was top scorer at the Riverside during the 2019/20 campaign but could only muster four goals in 14 matches this term under Neil Warnock after being sidelined for four months.

Matthijs De Ligt refusing to have coronavirus vaccine as Juventus star claims ‘you should be in charge of your own body’

JUVENTUS star Matthijs De Ligt revealed he has chosen not to take the coronavirus vaccine as ‘it is not mandatory’ and ‘you should be in charge of your own body’.The 21-year-old experienced coronavirus first hand when he contracted the virus back in January – missing two Serie A games as a result.
De Ligt has stated that he won’t be taking the vaccine, and believes it should be people’s choice whether to take it or notCredit: GETTY IMAGES
De Ligt has now linked up with the Netherlands national team for this summer’s Euros after a disappointing Juventus campaign saw them scrape fourth place.
In an interview with ESPN.nl, De Ligt confirmed he has opted against getting the vaccine but insisted people should have the right to choose whether to take it or not.
He said: “I have not taken a vaccination, it is not mandatory.
“I think you should be in charge of your own body. The risk of infection is always there.
“I try to come into contact with as few people as possible outside the Dutch national team.”
De Ligt isn’t the only Dutch footballing star not to accept the vaccine – manager Frank de Boer confirmed that six others have opted not to get vaccinated.
Speaking in his press conference on Wednesday, he said: “We have always said at KNVB [Dutch FA] that the people who need the vaccine the most, should get it first.
“That happened and now we think it could be a choice to vaccinate ourselves. In recent days, this was possible on a voluntary basis.
Dutch boss Frank De Boer confirmed six other Dutch players opted against the jabCredit: GETTY IMAGES

“I think about six players didn’t do it. That’s not a problem either, because you have to know for yourself if you have a shot.
“I said I would, but in the end it’s the person’s choice and we have to respect that.”
There have been 1.48billion coronavirus vaccine doses administered worldwide.
In the UK alone, the successful vaccine rollout has seen 38.8million Brits receive the first dose and 24.4m have both – thanks in large to The Sun’s Jabs Army.
Major football figures are encouraging the public to get the vaccine to protect lives and get people’s lives back to normal.
Former manager and player Harry Redknapp, who is fully vaccinated, had a pleasant experience.
He said: “I’ve now had both my vaccines – they were so simple and I didn’t even feel them. It’s no pain but plenty to gain.
“The NHS has done a fantastic job of rolling out the vaccine and it’s amazing that we’re starting to see the results.

Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock expressed his gratitude to the footballing figuresCredit: GETTY IMAGES
“I’d encourage everyone to take up the offer of the vaccine when they are called. [Harry] Maguire’s defence might be pretty good, but the jab is better.”
Redknapp was joined by Chris Kamara, Eniola Aluko, Chris Hughton, Carlton Cole and Jules Breach earlier this month in a short film encouraging people to get vaccinated.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he is ‘hugely grateful’ to the footballing figures for getting involved in the campaign.
He said: “Our Covid-19 vaccination programme is a testament to the country’s remarkable NHS and life sciences industry, both of which have played an integral role in getting the vaccines from lab to jab.
“I am hugely grateful to Harry Redknapp, Chris Kamara, Eniola Aluko, Chris Hughton, Carlton Cole and Jules Breach for lending their support to help get the UK vaccinated.
“When offered, it’s vital people book in their jab – they truly are our greatest defence against Covid-19 and will help us get even more fans back watching the sports they love.”
Football fans WON’T have to social distance at stadiums if vaccine passports get green light, says Gove More

Cristiano Ronaldo ‘could seal incredible Man Utd transfer return in shock swap-deal with Juventus including Paul Pogba’

MANCHESTER UNITED are interested in swapping Paul Pogba with Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo, according to reports. The rumoured deal between the Premier League giants and the Italian side could see the Portugal captain return to Old Trafford after 12 years.

According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, both clubs are interested in re-signing their former stars.
United are believed to want some cash for Pogba, however, and Ronaldo’s big wage demands could be a stumbling block.
Ronaldo, 36, won three Premier League titles, two League Cups, the Champions League and the FA Cup during his six-year spell at United.
World Cup winner Pogba, 28, enjoyed success at Juventus between 2012 and 2016, four Serie A titles and two Italian Cups.
Both players have struggled at their current clubs, with Ronaldo failing to win Serie A this season and Pogba not lifting domestic silverware since 2017.
The reported deal could depend on returning Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri, who is rumoured to be willing to let the Portuguese star go.
Reports suggest the Italian coach asked Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli to get rid of Ronaldo around the time he was sacked in 2019.
And Allegri may want to bring Pogba back to Turin, with plenty of reports linking the French with a return.

Man Utd’s biggest transfers ever, both in and out, including Ronaldo

Pogba has one year left on his Old Trafford contract and it’s still unclear whether he will commit his future to the Red Devils.
Even if Ronaldo is allowed to leave Italy this summer, United may struggle to re-sign the player with Paris Saint-Germain believed to be interested.
The Ligue 1 side are said to be concerned about losing star striker Kylian Mbappe, whose current deal expires next summer.
PSG may decide to cash in on the 22-year-old this summer if he doesn’t renew his contract, leaving them in need of a new superstar.

And academy graduate Colin Dagba hasn’t managed to stamp down a first-team place either.
According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, newly-crowned Italian champions Inter need to get between £77million to £85m in transfer sales to meet the economic needs of the club.
The report states that the Nerazzurri and PSG are in the advanced stages of negotiations.
And the deal would be around £51.5m – turning a profit of £16.5m from when they acquired him permanently from Real Madrid for £34.3m back in 2020.
The 22-year-old could be the second high-profile Inter star to leave the San Siro this summer.
Title-winning boss Antonio Conte sensationally quit days after lifting the Serie A title.
Conte could return to the Premier League, with managerless Tottenham reportedly adding the Italian to their shortlist.
The latest developments are a blow to Arsenal who have been tracking the highly talented right-back for some time.

Nuno, 47, was let go by Wolves earlier this month after four successful years at Molineux.
A move to Tottenham had been rumoured but Rome is calling, according to CalcioMercato.
The former goalkeeper is on a shortlist that reportedly also includes Bologna’s Sinisa Mihajlovic, Rafa Benitez, Sarri and Vincenzo Italiano.
Italiano, 43, kept newly-promoted Spezia in the Italian top-flight and is considering a new contract offer in Liguria.
Ex-Chelsea boss Sarri, 62, may be the frontrunner for the Lazio job with TuttoMercatoWeb detailing talks between the coach and club.
Roma were linked with the Italian before pulling off their shock move for Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese coach is one of many new faces plotting a bid for the Scudetto after five of this season’s top seven clubs changed manager.
Lazio have lost Inzaghi to Inter following Antonio Conte’s falling out with the champions.

Juventus ‘dream’ to bring Paul Pogba back from Man Utd handed huge boost after Max Allegri’s return as boss

JUVENTUS’ ‘dream’ to bring back Paul Pogba could be boosted by Max Allegri’s return as manager, reports say.The 53-year-old returned on Friday after Andrea Pirlo was sacked by the Old Lady.

Pirlo paid the price after Juventus lost their Serie A crown to Inter Milan and just about scraped into the top four.
Fan-favourite Allegri won five straight league titles in Turin and took Juve to two Champions League finals.
Allegri managed Pogba before he left for Manchester United in 2016.
And the French midfielder has just a year remaining on his Old Trafford deal.
CalcioMercato in Italy report that Juventus have a number of transfer targets, but bringing Pogba back would be ‘the real dream’.
The report adds that Cristiano Ronaldo could go the other way and return to Old Trafford.
Other transfer targets listed in the report are Manuel Locatelli from Sassuolo, Udinese’s Rodrigo De Paul or Turkish star Hakan Calhanoglu.
Juve confirmed the return of Allegri on Friday with a cryptic tweet.

Juventus’ official Twitter account posted a picture depicting the outline of US state Minnesota.
In his younger days, Allegri is claimed to have been enjoying a day at the races when he backed a horse by the name of Minnesota.
A pal joked the horse had as much chance of winning as Allegri did of becoming a football manager.
Minnesota romped to victory and Allegri would go on to become one of the most sought-after bosses in football… after collecting his winnings, of course.
Allegri once revealed: “One time 40 years ago I wanted to bet on a horse named Minnesota.
“A friend of mine told me, ‘It’s easier for you to coach in Serie A than for that horse to win.’
“The horse won and I coach in Serie A.”

Just half an hour later, Juventus shared a blurry picture of a what appeared to be a jacket thrown on the floor.
Supporters were quick to suggest it was the coat Allegri threw to the floor in a passionate rage after Juve nearly conceded a last-gasp equaliser against Carpi in 2015.
Just 30 minutes later, Juventus put fans out of their misery by tweeting: “Welcome back home, Max.”

Why Max Allegri’s return to Juventus is bad news for Cristiano Ronaldo and puts his transfer future into further doubt

CRISTIANO RONALDO’S future at Juventus has been thrown into even more doubt amid the expected return of former manager Massimiliano Allegri.Andrea Pirlo was sacked on Friday after the club failed to win Serie A for the first time since 2011.

The Old Lady were also knocked out of the Champions League in embarrassing fashion as Porto beat them in the round of 16.
Meanwhile, Allegri is set for a triumphant return to Juventus two years after ending his five-year spell there.
And according to The Express, the Italian coach’s return could spell the end for Ronaldo at the club.
This is because Allegri reportedly asked Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli to get rid of the Portuguese superstar around the time he was sacked.
The request came after Ronaldo had spent just one season playing for the then Italian champions, a campaign in which he netted 28 goals in 43 games.
Over the course of his three seasons in Italy, Ronaldo has not disappointed when it comes to his goalscoring form, netting 101 times in 133 appearances.
However, the ex-Real Madrid man was brought to the club to help them win the Champions League.
And since he arrived Juve have failed to make it past the last eight in Europe, compared with the two finals in three years which they reached before he joined.

Ronaldo and Messi are both named in the Ballon d’Or all-time best XI
It was revealed earlier this week that Ronaldo is expected to hold talks with Juve over his future.
The Portuguese legend, 36, only has a year remaining on his whopping £540,000-a-week deal.
He looked set to depart the club if they missed out on Champions League qualification but Juventus managed to scrape fourth-place in Serie A with a 4-1 win over Bologna.
A host of clubs have been linked with a move for Ronaldo, with both former sides Manchester United and Real Madrid keen on bringing him back.
Paris Saint-Germain are another side who would love to add him to their ranks while his first club, Sporting Lisbon, would be his mother’s ideal destination for her son.

However, the star forward hasn’t been able to avoid criticism throughout his glittering career as some have claimed he spends too much time worrying about how he looks.
Pantic is one of those critics as he believes the Portugal international represents a generation that’s much different to his glory days.
The former attacking midfielder suggested that players today spend more time on their looks rather than their game.
Pantic told La Resistencia: “I took off my shirt [after scoring in the 1996 Copa del Rey final] and I don’t know why, because I don’t have abs like Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has cemented his legacy among football’s greats as he is the Champions League’s record scorer with 134 goals.
However, the United legend has struggled this season at Juventus and rumours suggest he could be on his way out of Turin.
Juve failed to defend their Serie A crown, finishing fourth in the process, and were eliminated from the Champions League in the Last 16.

The Bianconeri managed to save face by winning the Coppa Italia but the 36-year-old cast doubt on his future by claiming he has already achieved what he set out to do with the Italian giants.
Ronaldo posted on his Instagram: “The Italian Super Cup, the Italian Cup and the Serie A Top Scorer trophy fill me with happiness, mainly due to the difficulty they carry with them, in a country where nothing is easy to win.
“With these achievements, I reached a goal that I had set myself since the first day I arrived in Italy: to win the Championship, the Cup and the Super Cup, and also to be Best Player and Top Scorer in this great football country.”
