Cristiano Ronaldo ‘happy and smiling’ in changing room despite being subbed off against Inter, reveals boss Andrea Pirlo

CRISTIANO RONALDO was ‘happy to be subbed’ for the first time ever, according to Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo. The Portuguese superstar was replaced by Alvaro Morata with 20 minutes left of Juve’s dramatic 3-2 win over Inter Milan on Saturday but apparently remained ‘happy and smiling’ in the dressing room.

Ronnie gave his side a 24th minute lead – scoring the rebound from his own missed penalty – to set them on the way to a huge three points in their race for the top four in Serie A.
Former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku pulled one back for the Italian champions from the spot before ex-Chelsea winger Juan Cuadrado put Juve back in front on the stroke of half-time.
But it looked like Juve’s best laid plans were going to be derailed when midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur saw red for two yellow cards with 35 minutes left.
Pirlo was forced into a reshuffle as his team went down to 10 and Ronnie was hauled off and replaced by Morata.
But despite his previous angry reactions when being subbed, one of the greatest players of all time was not too fussed this time around.
Pirlo told Sky Italia: “I think it was the first time he was happy to be subbed off.
“We were one man down, and he’d have been chasing shadows. He was happy and smiling in the dressing room.”
Inter’s extra man looked to have paid off when Giorgio Chiellini turned into his own net to make it 2-2 with seven minutes to go.

Manager Andrea Pirlo only pockets £1.6million-per-year after taking charge of the club

Chiellini claimed he was being tugged by Lukaku.
But after video replays, the equaliser stood and it was Chiellini who was booked for holding the Belgium striker.
Five minutes later, though, former Man Utd target Ivan Perisic was ruled to have impeded Cuadrado inside the box.
And the Colombia wideman got up to slam home the decisive penalty.
Marcelo Brozovic then summed up a rare afternoon to forget for Inter in their otherwise superb Serie A campaign.
The Croatia anchorman was dismissed for his second booking, following a late tackle on Cuadrado in the 92nd minute.
Pirlo is under pressure with his side fifth going into the last game of the season.
But the Italian said he is not feeling the heat.
He added: “I haven’t thought about the future. I was only focused on today’s game. We’ll talk about the future later on.”

CHELSEA outcast Kepa Arrizabalaga is attracting interest from Lazio ahead of a summer exit, according to reports. The Spaniard has been demoted to No 2 behind Edouard Mendy at Stamford Bridge and the Serie A side are reportedly looking to pounce at the end of the season.

Pepe Reina, 38, is currently Lazio’s No 1 but they are said to be looking for a longer term solution.
The ex-Liverpool keeper is on loan from AC Milan and his deal expires at the end of the season.
Current No 2 Thomas Strakosha is not viewed as a viable permanent solution and Lazio are monitoring Kepa’s situation, according to Lazio News.
Strakosha is reportedly likely to be sold this summer as he has just a year left to run on his deal.
Chelsea are keen to get Kepa’s £150,000-a-week wages off the books.
But Lazio will face competition from Atletico Madrid if Jan Oblak leaves, according to Todo Fichajes.
The 26-year-old’s former club Athletic Bilbao are also said to be keen on bringing him back to Basque country.
Kepa started Chelsea’s 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to Leicester on Saturday.

But that was just his 13th appearance of the season with only six of those coming in the Premier League.
Kepa joined Chelsea in 2018 for a world record fee for a keeper of £71.6m.
And he also penned a seven-year contract – one of the top ten longest in football.

Crystal Palace plan to go back in for Juventus defender Radu Dragusin on loan after failed transfer bid

CRYSTAL PALACE hope to snap up Romanian centre-half Radu Dragusin from Juventus at the second attempt. The Eagles missed out when Dragusin, 19, re-signed with the Italian giants last month while they teed up a summer bid.

But now Dragusin could be available on a season’s loan and Palace may swoop to boost their backline.
Juve could be willing to offload the teenager as they look for him to get regular first-team football.
The Romania youth international has appeared in just one Serie A game this term.
His only top-flight appearance came in the 3-1 win against Genoa in December where he came on in second-half stoppage time.
Though he has featured twice in the Coppa Italia this campaign, as well as making a substitute outing in the 3-0 Champions League group stage victory against Dynamo Kiev.
Dragusin sits behind the likes of Matthijs De Ligt, Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Merih Demiral in the pecking order in Turin.
The youngster, likened to Virgil van Dijk in terms of style of play, joined Juve from Regal Sport Bucuresti in 2018.

Florin Manea told TMW: “Radu impressed everyone. Other teams were interested too but Juventus really wanted him.
“He asked me, ‘Where can I become a great defender?’ Chelsea wanted him, but that’s why he chose Juventus.
“From there he got his head down. Work, sweat, nutrition, he’s a real professional.
“He arrives two hours earlier than everyone and works out at the gym – then he has an athlete like Cristiano Ronaldo as a role model.
“We’ve never had the idea of leaving Juventus, signing a new deal will not be a problem.
“We see his future here. Three years ago he was watching Ronaldo on TV, now he plays with him. Sometimes dreams come true.”

Mauro Icardi ‘tells Paris Saint-Germain he wants to leave’ with wife and agent Wanda Nara negotiating Serie A return

MAURO ICARDI has informed Paris Saint-Germain he wants to leave the club in the summer.Icardi enjoyed immense success at the Parc des Princes when he joined PSG on loan from Inter Milan in 2019 as he racked up 20 goals as well as four assists in 34 matches.

But the striker has struggled ever since putting pen-to-paper on a permanent deal with the Parisians as he endured an injury-riddled campaign and dropped down the pecking order in the process.
According to Calciomercato, Icardi has told the club he wishes to depart at the end of the season with his wife and agent Wanda Nara searching for her husband’s next destination.
AC Milan are reportedly looking to take advantage of the Argentina international’s unhappiness in Paris by bringing him back to the Serie A.
The couple are hoping to return to Italy and Roma seem to have joined the bidding war for the 28-year-old.
Juventus are also in the running but the prospect of missing out on next season’s Champions League could deter the Argentine from moving to Turin.

Icardi has immense Serie A experience as he spent seven years playing in Italy for the likes of Sampdoria and Inter.
The centre-forward enjoyed success at Inter after moving to the San Siro in 2013, scoring 124 goals in 219 matches.
His suitors will have to reach an agreement with his wife Nara, whom he met during his time in Sampdoria and embarked on a controversial marriage.

Their relationship started when the Argentinean media personality was married to Icardi’s team-mate Maxi Lopez, whom she divorced in 2013 after the affair was exposed.
Their marriage caused animosity in Argentina a year later.
Lopez refused to shake the Argentine’s hand on two separate occasions when Inter played against Sampdoria and Torino in 2014 and 2016 respectively, the former of which was dubbed the “Wanda derby”.
Icardi’s stint at the San Siro was also affected later on by Nara’s comments on Italian TV show Tiki Taka where she criticised management.
That led to the club stripping the player of the captain’s armband in 2019.

Everton ‘looking to sell Mason Holgate’ to fund Kalidou Koulibaly transfer from Napoli

EVERTON are set to listen to offers for Mason Holgate as they look to fund a potential bid for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly. That is according to Football Insider, who claim the Toffees are planning to raise funds for “A-list signings” such as Koulibaly.

Holgate could be among the players set to be sold even though the defender signed a new five-year deal with the club last year in March.
The centre-back was at the top of his game last season and attracted interest from various fronts.
However, the 24-year-old has had a mixed campaign this time around, even though he’s been a regular starter at Everton.
Holgate has made 28 appearance this term, 25 of which have taken place in the Premier League.
But manager Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly made Koulibaly his top transfer target ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ancelotti rates the Senegal international highly as he coached him at Napoli for a year before his arrival at Everton in 2019.
The Italian boss doesn’t feel like the current centre-back combinations inspire confidence at Goodison Park, despite an impressive season in which they’re fighting for Europa League qualification.
However, signing a player like Koulibaly will be no easy feat as Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has turned down various lucrative offers from some of Europe’s biggest hitters.
Everton would have to join an intense bidding war for the player as Manchester United, Manchester City and Barcelona have shown interest.

The former Genk star also turns 30 next month but Everton are still keen on working out a deal with the Serie A giants in the summer.
Koulibaly joined Napoli in 2014 and has since become the team’s rock at the back.
The Senegalese ace has amassed a total of 283 appearances across all competitions in the last seven years at the San Paolo.

Most expensive transfers ever AFTER inflation with Ronaldo to Inter Milan worth £380m and Maradona at £300m

RONALDO NAZARIO has been revealed as the most expensive footballer of all time, with the former Inter Milan striker costing a staggering £380million – after inflation. The Brazilian cost Inter £25m in 1997, but the figure would be just under £400m in today’s market.

Ronaldo made his name at Barcelona in 1996, scoring 47 times in 49 matches, before making the move to Italy, where he scored 59 goals in 99 appearances.
After five seasons at the Giuseppe Meazza, Ronaldo moved to Barca’s rivals Real Madrid, winning one LaLiga title.
The 44-year-old won two World Cup’s during his career, with his Brazil side winning the 1994 and 2002 tournaments.
Italian market analysts PlayRatings came up with an algorithm to determine modern day transfer fees for top players of bygone eras.
Diego Maradona, who sadly died aged 60 in November, was the closest to Ronaldo, costing £300m when he joined Napoli from Barcelona in 1984.
Famous for his Hand of God goal against England at the 1986 World Cup, Maradona is regarded as one of finest footballers of all time.
He racked up an impressive 310 goals during his 21-year career.
Michel Platini and Christian Vieri are third and fourth on the list, respectively.
Platini, left French side Saint Etienne for Juventus in 1982 and the attacking midfielder went on to finish his career with the Italian giants after racking up 103 goals in 222 matches.

Maradona achieved legendary status at Stadio San PaoloCredit: AP:Associated Press
Despite costing just £1m 1987, the report revealed Dutch legend Marco van Basten would have cost £289m in the modern game.
Two more Argentinians are next on the list, with Gabriel Batistuta and Gonzalo Higuain costing a whopping £247m and £232m, respectively.
Batistuta left Fiorentina for Roma in 2000 and the striker bagged an incredible 292 goals during his 17-year career.
The 52-year-old also boasted an impressive 54 goals in 77 matches for his country.
Higuain played for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid and Chelsea, but his transfer from Napoli to Juventus in 2016 would now amount to £232m.

Neymar is the world’s most expensive footballer, after joining Paris Saint-Germain for £199m from Barcelona in 2017, but that fee would have been the least-expensive of the eight players named in the report.
Club team-mate Kylian Mbappe may be the only man who can threaten that fee in the pandemic world.
Real Madrid are said to be hugely keen on the French forward and PSG would expect a mega fee if he wants to leave for Spain.

Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur saw red for two yellow cards with 35 minutes left and Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic suffered the same fate in stoppage time.
Victory put fallen champs Juve back in the top four, but Lazio are just two points behind and visit Fiorentina on Sunday for their game in hand.
Ronaldo pounced on 24 minutes from close in after his spot-kick was parried.
Romelu Lukaku levelled 11 minutes later from another spot-kick awarded following a video review.
But Cuadadro smashed home a deflected shot to restore Juve’s lead in first-half stoppage time.
Inter surged back, though, once Bentancur was sent off 10 minutes after the break.

Cristiano Ronaldo ‘abandoned’ by Juventus dressing room with team-mates ‘sick of his perks’ following Ferrari day trip

He was allowed a day off to collect his new £1.4million Ferrari Monza from the supercar manufacturer’s base in Maranello.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was accompanied by Juventus’ President Andrea Agnelli and Exor Chairman and CEO John Elkann.
Such a privilege is described as upsetting Ronaldo’s Old Lady pals, who were hauled in after they lost 3-0 to AC Milan on the weekend.
And the report adds that many Juventus players believe the club give the former Real Madrid star too much freedom.

SunSport previously reported that Ronaldo was targeted by the Italian press after ‘one of his worst games EVER’ against AC Milan.
That defeat left the Old Lady’s Champions League fate out of their own hands – one point adrift of fourth-placed Napoli with three games to go.
And that could spell disaster for Juve, with Ronaldo potentially set to quit – with former club Sporting Lisbon said to be keen on a reunion.
Another of his former teams, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain are also rumoured to be monitoring the situation.

Not only would Ronaldo reportedly have second thoughts about playing in the Europa League, Juventus may not be able to afford his wages.
The Bianconeri are facing financial problems due to the pandemic that would only get worse by missing out on Europe’s top club competition.
Talks are due to be held between the club and player at the end of the season, when there will be a year left on Ronaldo’s contract.
