Man Utd to hold Cristiano Ronaldo’s medical in Lisbon after ‘making official contract offer’ ahead of emotional transfer

MANCHESTER UNITED have launched an official bid to sensationally re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo with a medical to follow in Lisbon. The Old Trafford legend informed current club Juventus of his desire to leave after three years in Italy.

Initially, his agent held talks with City over a possible move but the Premier League champions ruled themselves out without making an offer.
Attention then soon shifted to United after their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – Ronaldo’s former team-mate – opened the door for a transfer.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, Juve have received an offer from United, who are ready to find an agreement.
With Ronaldo hoping to resolve his future immediately, he has arrived in Lisbon to complete a medical after he flew via private jet.
Ronaldo, 36, signed for Juve in 2018 from Real Madrid for £99million but has been linked with a move away all summer.
He was even rumoured with a return to the Spanish capital, forcing himself and Real boss Carlo Ancelotti to distance themselves from the speculation.

But it was this week revealed Ronaldo informed his agent Jorge Mendes to facilitate a move away from Juve.
He missed their season opener against Udinese, which ended 2-2, and manager Max Allegri confirmed the forward wanted out.
Allegri said: “Yesterday Cristiano told me that he has no intention of continuing at Juventus.
“This is why he will not be called up tomorrow, he did not train yesterday and now we can talk about [the] Empoli [game]. That is most important.”
Ronaldo then boarded a private jet with Mendes after saying goodbye to his team-mates.
But news then broke that City – after a striker after failing to land Tottenham’s Harry Kane – pulled out of the race to sign the Portugal captain.

United then made a move and Solskjaer, who spent four years playing with Ronaldo, revealed Bruno Fernandes had already been in touch with his international team-mate.
He said: I didn’t think Cristiano was going to leave Juventus. But if ever he is going to move away from Juventus he knows we are here.
“We’ve always had a good communication, Bruno has been talking to him as well. He knows how we feel about him.
“He is a legend of this club, the greatest players of all time if you ask me. So let’s see what happens with him.”
Juve are said to be looking for around £25m for the attacker, who has one-year left on his contract which sees him earn close to £540,000-a-week.
The latest news is that United have offered Ronaldo a deal until 2023, with paperworks to be gone over soon now Juve had had an offer sent.

Why Man Utd do NOT want to sign Cristiano Ronaldo as Solskjaer makes Erling Haaland his long-term transfer target

MANCHESTER UNITED football director John Murtough and boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer favour Erling Haaland over a Cristiano Ronaldo return. The 21-year-old Norwegian wonderkid is the preferred long-term No9 target.

Ronaldo looks set to join Man CityCredit: GETTY IMAGES
According to Manchester Evening News, both Murtough and Solskjaer are in mutual agreement that Haaland is the forward they should be targeting.
And acknowledge that a move to complete a fairytale Ronaldo return to United would all but end the club’s pursuit of Haaland, something they’re not prepared to do.
Ronaldo does look set to return to the Premier League, in fact back to Manchester, but the blue side.
But the potential move has angered a lot of United fans who see it as a betrayal.
A move to rivals City could see his United legacy of three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a Champions League tarnished.
Letting Ronaldo go to rivals Manchester City could actually serve United well.

Haaland’s release clause is set to kick in, meaning he can leave Borussia Dortmund for just £64million next summer.
If City sign Ronaldo, it would most likely rule out a move for Haaland next term.
The ex-Molde man also ‘dreams’ of playing in the Premier League.
And Man Utd have one advantage over their rivals: Norwegian Solskjaer’s personal ties with his compatriot.
Ronaldo, 15 years Haaland’s senior, offers very little sell-on value.

Whereas United signing Haaland at a bargain price of £64m makes much more financial sense.
The Red Devils would already guaranteed to make profit should they decide to sell later down the line.
Should Haaland decide to follow in Kylian Mbappe’s footsteps and look to make another big money move, he would almost certainly move for a fee much larger than the release clause paid.

SunSport exclusively reported today that CR7 wants £510,000-a-week to join the Cityzens from Juventus.
The Serie A giants are said to want around a £25million fee for the 36-year-old, but City do not want to pay that.
Instead, City would allegedly prefer to give all the cash to Ronaldo by attempting to lure the 36-year-old with £26million over two years, according to respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
And after missing out on Harry Kane Pep Guardiola is reportedly going all out to get a deal over the line for CR7.
The Juve forward was BENCHED by head coach Massimiliano Allegri for their Serie A season opener against Udinese on Sunday as rumours swirled regarding his future.

But Real Madrid were the reported frontrunners for his signature at the time.
Now though Manchester City have emerged as the favourites to snap up the football icon after Ronaldo himself rubbished suggestions of a return to Madrid.
However, a sensational move to PSG to link up with Lionel Messi has also been rumoured should Kylian Mbappe end up at Real Madrid this summer.  More

Cristiano Ronaldo camp step up efforts to seal shock Man City transfer after Pep Guardiola’s Harry Kane frustration

CRISTIANO RONALDO’S camp will step up their efforts to get him a move to Manchester City this week. The champions saw their hopes of landing England captain Harry Kane finally dashed on Wednesday.

And the United legend will hope it could open the door for him to make a sensational return to Manchester.
Ronaldo, 36, is looking to engineer a move out of Juventus before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
City have been cool on the prospect of signing him since reports first surfaced earlier this month and that remains the case.
But Pep Guardiola is now faced with continuing a busy season without replacing all-time record goalscorer Sergio Aguero.
So it will be up to Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes to put forward a proposal which would tempt the City hierarchy to change their minds.
City made no secret of their wish to land Kane – and were convinced he wanted to come and join them.

That would normally be enough to see a deal get done and personal terms would not have been a problem.
But the champions have shown in the past they will not be held to ransom.
They walked away from moves for Harry Maguire, Jorginho and Alexis Sanchez because in the end they did not feel they were getting good value.

And there was no way they were going to pay north of £150 million for a 28-year-old – no matter how good he is.
With Daniel Levy unwilling to negotiate, it became clear in recent days they were not going to hit a figure that suited both parties.
Even up until Tuesday night, there was hope at City that the Spurs chairman would be willing to negotiate – yet he did not come to the table.

So Kane’s announcement on Wednesday lunchtime that he would be staying at Tottenham finally drew a line under the big transfer saga of the summer.
City sources now expect £100m record buy Jack Grealish will be the only addition to the squad in the current transfer window.
And Guardiola said on Saturday he will not moan if that turns out to be the case.

He said: “I’m very happy to be here. It’s a dream that I have had since I started playing football as a child to play in the Premier League and for a team like a Southampton.
“It’s a dream not only for me but for all my family too.
“I grew up in Brazil and the football is different there, then when I went to Italy I learned that you have to be focused more on tactics.

Cristiano Ronaldo ‘wants stunning transfer to Man City’ as Man Utd icon eyes Juventus exit with Harry Kane move stalling

CRISTIANO RONALDO is looking to ‘engineer’ a stunning move to Manchester City, reports in France have claimed. According to L’equipe, the former Manchester United forward has had his representatives contact Premier League champions City.
Cristiano Ronaldo is looking to ‘engineer’ a stunning move to Manchester City, reports in France have claimedCredit: Getty
It comes amid speculation Ronaldo has asked to leave Juventus after three years in Italy.
He was left out of their Serie A opener against Udinese over the weekend, which ended 2-2.
Although the five-time Ballon d’Or winner did come on to score an injury-time winner – only for it to be disallowed by VAR.
Juve vice president Pavel Nedved attempted to play down the exclusion after the game.
Nedved said: “We are not going to try to create sensationalist stories when there are none.
“It was a decision we shared with the player. At the beginning of the season, he is naturally not at top form.”
Reports also linked Ronaldo with a move back to Real Madrid, from whom he joined Juve in a £99million deal.

But bizarrely, Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti personally tweeted to distance himself with signing the forward, who he managed from 2013-2015.
Ancelotti posted: “Cristiano is a Real Madrid legend and he has all my love and respect. I have never considered signing him. We look forward.”
Ronaldo, 36, also looked to ease some of the speculation about his future on social media and appeared to commit himself to Juve.
He wrote: “As well as this most recent episode in Spain, there have been frequent news and stories associating me with a number of clubs in many different Leagues, with nobody ever being concerned about trying to find out the actual truth.
“I’m breaking my silence now to say that I can’t allow people to keep playing around with my name.
“I remain focused on my career and in my work, committed and prepared for all the challenges that I have to face. Everything else?
    “Everything else is just talk.”
Ronaldo’s full statement on his future Anyone who knows me is aware of how focused I am on my work. Less talk and more action, this has been my guiding motto since the start of my career.
However, in view of everything that’s been said and written recently, I have to set out my position
More than the disrespect for me as a man and as a player, the frivolous way that my future is covered in the media is disrespectful to all the clubs involved in these rumours, as well as to their players and staff.
My story at Real Madrid has been written. It’s been recorded. In words and numbers, in trophies and titles, in records and in headlines. It’s in the Museum at the Bernabeu Stadium and it’s also in the minds of every fan of the club.
And beyond what I achieved, I remember that in those nine years I had a relationship of deep affection and respect for “merengue afición”, an affection and respect that I retain to this day, and that I will always cherish.
I know that the true Real Madrid fans will continue to have me in their hearts, and I will have them in mine.
As well as this most recent episode in Spain, there have been frequent news and stories associating me with a number of clubs in many different Leagues, with nobody ever being concerned about trying to find out the actual truth.
I’m breaking my silence now to say that I can’t allow people to keep playing around with my name.
I remain focused on my career and in my work, committed and prepared for all the challenges that I have to face.
Everything else? Everything else is just talk.

Despite the statement, still Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Italy, and City are the latest side rumoured to be a potential suitor.
The English champions have spent the summer trying to sign England captain Harry Kane, 28, from Tottenham.
But Spurs appear unwilling to let their star man leave for anything less the £160m, despite the striker believing he had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with chief Daniel Levy that he could go.
Reports now claim Ronaldo wants to capitalise on the situation and offer himself as a potential solution for City’s problems.
That is despite the six years he spent at Old Trafford having signed as an 18-year-old in 2003.
The report claims Ronaldo has even spoken to international team-mates about Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo about joining them at City.
City are not believed to be interested in a deal, even though the Portuguese superstar could come relatively cheaply, having only a year left on his Juve deal.
Kane is said to still want a move to the Etihad, but did make his return to Spurs’ squad in their 1-0 win over Wolves on the weekend.
