Former Arsenal and Chelsea star Nicolas Anelka is ‘ashamed’ of nightmare spell at Juventus after transfer in 2013

NICOLAS ANELKA has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world, but he admits he got it wrong at Juventus. After a career that spanned France, England, Turkey, China and India, the former striker has described his stint in Italy as the worst of his career.
Anelka rued the fact all his appearances came away from TurinCredit: PA:Press Association
Signing on a six-month loan from Shanghai Shenhua in January 2013, Anelka played just three times and failed to score as the Bianconeri won the league.
Speaking to TuttoJuve in 2019, the Frenchman, now 43, said: “I had decided to accept Juve because it is a great club, with a good history and also because they were leading Serie A.
“Unfortunately, this will remain my worst experience [in football] since I only played 45 minutes and I never wore the shirt at Juventus Stadium in front of the fans.
“Honestly, when someone talks to me about Juventus I try to change the subject immediately… I’m ashamed of that transfer!
“I played and scored for all the teams I signed for, except Juve.
“So without disrespecting that great team, it cannot be said that I was their player because of how that experience went.”
The forward spent the first couple of months on Juve’s bench, all three outings coming off the bench, before injury took him out of a chunk of the run-in.
    COACH NIC
Few footballers can boast the trophy cabinet of Anelka, who added the Scudetto to his CV despite the quiet Juventus spell.
He also won league titles with Arsenal, Fenerbahce and Chelsea, a Champions League with Real Madrid, and Euro 2000 with France.
Now retired, Anelka wants to pursue a career in coaching having tried his hand at working with Ligue 1 side Lille’s academy.

The Parisian noted back in 2020: “I have just finished working for Lille, I was the attacking coach.
    “It was a wonderful experience.
“This year I have passed my qualifications and I can finally become a coach.”
But last year said the only club he would ever manage would be PSG.

Senegal international Koulibaly missed five Italian top-flight matches earlier this year as he helped his country win the prestigious tournament.
And the defender, who swapped Serie A for Stamford Bridge in a £34million deal last month, has called on his former employer to show more respect for African countries.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the 31-year-old was asked for his opinion on De Laurentiis’ views.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that a medical is scheduled for the player in Paris and that personal terms have been agreed.
PSG were desperate to sign Sanches, 24, as he worked under new manager Christophe Galtier and director of football Luis Campos at Lille.
During his time at the club they won the Ligue 1 title in the 2020/21 season.
He played 90 times for Lille across the three seasons he spent there scoring six goals having made the move from Bayern Munich.

The likes of AC Milan and Arsenal were also interested in Sanches but the chance to stay in France and team-up with Galtier again was too tempting.
Sanches’ move to a club with ambitions of winning the Champions League shows a great turn around in his career as at one stage he was deemed a failure after spells at Bayern and Swansea didn’t go well.
Him joining the Parisians could trigger a mass exodus of midfielders as the new gaffer looks to re-build the squad this summer following the dismissal of predecessor Mauricio Pochettino.
Players such as Idrissa Gana Gueye, Georgino Wijnaldum and Julian Draxler could all leave PSG.

Paul Pogba will NOT have knee surgery as Juventus star refuses to give up on playing in Qatar World Cup

PAUL POGBA has decided to avoid surgery for a knee injury in favour of alternative treatment ahead of the Qatar World Cup.The Frenchman, 29, was diagnosed with a lesion of the lateral meniscus in his right knee after suffering a sprain in pre-season just a few weeks after re-joining Juventus on a free transfer.

He was offered the opportunity to undergo surgery – which would keep him out of action for up to five months – earlier this week.
But, he has instead opted to seek an alternative method of treatment in a bid to keep his World Cup hopes alive.
Other treatment methods could limit Pogba’s time out to just five weeks, leaving him plenty of time to regain his fitness levels before the tournament kicks off in November.
However, this could make him more susceptible to re-injuring his knee more severely in future.

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the midfielder is expected to spend at least three weeks in the gym when treatment starts, where he will complete numerous physiotherapy and hydrotherapy sessions along with light exercises in a bid to maintain some fitness.
He will then train alone before joining up with the rest of the Juventus squad.
Pogba could return to the pitch as soon as next month, as long as his treatment is successful.
Juventus are claimed to be in the market for a new midfielder to fill the temporary void left by the former Manchester United man.

However, he sustained a meniscus injury in his right knee in training just days into pre-season with his new Juve team-mates.
And the problem appears pretty serious, potentially ruling him out until 2023 and therefore out of the winter World Cup.
He must decide whether or not to undergo surgery, which would extend his time out to around four months.
Now the Daily Mail claims the club and supporters are beginning to grow concerned about his medical record and are questioning how scrupulous the team were in their physical checks – especially as Pogba replaced Ramsey in midfield.
