Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney fought off coronavirus two months before being forced to self-isolate again

KIERAN TIERNEY came through a Covid-19 scare two months ago after a positive test.
The £25million Arsenal star was asymptomatic and came through the required 10-day self isolation period without further issues to start the new season.

Now Tierney is at the heart of a determined fight by the Gunners to be available for their Premier League game against Man City at the Etihad on October 17.
Boss Mikael Arteta – who himself tested positive last March – was left furious after Wednesday’s shock SFA announcement Tierney was having to isolate for 14 days due to him and Celtic’s Ryan Christie being regarded as ‘close contacts’ of Stuart Armstrong who tested positive while all three were together at the Scotland camp in Edinburgh.
That left the defender facing up to missing the City match plus almost certainly the opening Europa League group tie against Rapid Vienna in Austria on the 22nd.

Yet, Tierney had produced THREE negative tests in the week leading up to the stunning news all three players were out of the crunch Euro play-off against win over Israel.

The Gunners are now determinedly lobbying both the Scottish and UK governments to get the 23-year-old’s isolation period lifted, believing he has also developed the necessary antibodies.
Celtic have also demanded a full-scale government probe after Ryan Christie was ordered to self-isolate.

It’s understood they were sent home after being involved in PlayStation games with Armstrong — but the pair say they were using different consoles and obeying social-distancing rules.

They’ll now miss crucial club games — with Christie out of next week’s Old Firm derby — after being told by health chiefs to quarantine for 14 days.
But the players have insisted they have not broken rules and their furious clubs want answers over why they’ve been targeted.

How Rangers star Alfredo Morelos could end up at PSG ‘as Qatari club Al Duhail eye transfer’

RANGERS ace Alfredo Morelos could yet leave Ibrox with Qatari side Al Duhail reportedly considering a fresh move for the striker – amid claims it could even ‘fast-track’ him to PSG.
Gers fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief when the transfer window slammed shut on Monday with Morelos still at Ibrox.

Speculation had mounted over the Colombian all summer with a move to French side Lille looking increasingly likely.
But after a bid was rejected, the French side moved on and Morelos remained with the Light Blues.
However, the Daily Record now say Qatari outfit Al Duhail are considering a fresh move for the forward after previously expressing their interest in the summer.
And the Record even claims that due to strong links between Al Duhail and PSG it could open up a pathway for Morelos to eventually join the mega-rich French side.

The transfer window remains open until October 25 in Qatar but Gers will be hesitant to let their star man go after standing firm.
The Doha outfit have already landed Mario Mandzukic, Medhi Benatia and Han Kwang-song from Juventus and have direct links with French giants PSG.
Morelos has previously suggested he would be against a move to the Middle East as he eyes Europe’s top five leagues.
It comes after Italian side Torino failed with a late deadline day loan bid.

The Serie A club made an offer to take Morelos to Italy for the season with the option to make the move permanent next summer.
Meanwhile, Benni McCarthy insists he had absolutely no hesitation recommending Bongani Zungu to Rangers.

Ibrox coach Michael Beale phoned the South African legend to get the lowdown on his fellow countryman.
Gers wanted to make sure every base was covered before concluding a deal for the midfielder.
And McCarthy was only too happy to tell them they would be signing one of the most complete midfielders in Europe.

Celtic star and Arsenal transfer target Odsonne Edouard tests positive for coronavirus and huge doubt for Rangers clash

ODSONNE EDOUARD has tested positive for coronavirus – which could rule him OUT of the Old Firm clash.
The Celtic striker discovered his positive test result while on duty with the French Under-21 side.

Edouard, 22, was due to represent his country in games against Liechtenstein and Slovakia before Tuesday’s revelation.
The striker – a summer target for Arsenal – could now miss the derby clash with Rangers at Parkhead next Saturday.
A statement on the French Football Federation website confirmed the news.
It read: “Odsonne Edouard will not participate in the France-Liechtenstein and France-Slovakia matches, counting for the qualifiers for Euro 2021.

“The result of his Covid-19 test carried out by Uefa this Tuesday morning, October 6 having been positive.
“Odsonne Edouard was sidelined from the group upon receipt of the results, at the end of training. He was then placed in isolation.
“All the other tests carried out on the entire delegation, staff members and players, were negative.”
Celtic confirmed all their other international players have tested negative in the last 24 hours.

Edouard will isolate in France until given the all-clear to return to Scotland – but it’s not known when that will be.
Celtic are in talks with French FA medics to find out when he will be allowed to travel.
In France, you only need to self-isolate for seven days if you test positive – but in the UK the period is ten days.
Edouard has an elite athlete exemption to travel and Celtic will hope he is given permission to fly in a week.
But even if he does return to Scotland before the derby there will be concerns over his health and fitness.
Neil Lennon could then face a huge dilemma over whether to throw him into the Rangers clash.

The Parkhead side have confirmed the news on social media.
A statement said: “We can confirm that Odsonne Edouard has tested positive for Covid-19 while on international duty with France Under-21s.
“As it stands, no other Celtic player has returned a positive test.
“Our thorough testing programme will continue and we will continue to follow all protocols.”
The news is a further blow to boss Lennon after learning winger James Forrest is out until NOVEMBER with a stress fracture in his ankle.
It leaves Lennon with just Jeremie Frimpong on the right-hand side with the full-back playing in a more advanced role recently to suit the 3-5-2 formation.
Premiership leaders Rangers travel to Celtic Park a week on Saturday for the first Old Firm game of the season.

Celtic fan in Twitter spat with The Chase’s Jenny Ryan over Rangers ‘triple relegation’ question

THE CHASE’S Jenny Ryan has been caught up in a Twitter spat with Celtic fans over a question about Rangers’ ‘relegation’.
Monday night’s show caused a storm with footie punters when presenter Bradley Walsh asked players: “Which Scottish football team was triple-relegated in 2012?”

    3

The Chase TV cast, starring presenter Bradley Walsh

Contestant Ben was quickest off the mark by answering “Rangers”, which was deemed correct by Bradley.
That sparked an uproar among supporters of other teams who believe Gers are a new club following their financial troubles eight years ago.
And one Celtic fan took Jenny to task on Twitter over the controversial topic, with the quiz guru initially hitting back at accusations she doesn’t smile on screen.
He then replied: “One favour, though. Tell your researches that Rangers were not ‘triple-relegated’ in 2012.

The quiz guru was unhappy after being dragged into the age-old debate
“The SFA articles of association state that club/company are the same. The co. Went bust, and a new club formed.”
Jenny responded: “They’re not my researchers”, to which the fan, named Steven, added: “Ok.. THE researchers”.
Clearly irked, she then blasted: “I don’t get to tell the researchers anything, they don’t work for me.
“But I *do* know that all questions on the Chase are fully sourced and then verified, to ensure the accuracy of the material.”

Chaser Jenny appears to have since deleted the tweets.
Rangers plunged into administration in February 2012 before eventually being liquidated and were forced to start again at the foot of Scottish football as a Newco.
The Light Blues eventually worked their way to the Premiership from the fourth tier of our professional game and are now competing for titles and Europa League football.

Aston Villa and Brighton £30m-rated transfer target Odsonne Edouard is happy at Celtic, insists Hoops boss Neil Lennon

NEIL LENNON insists Odsonne Edouard is NOT pushing to quit Celtic — as Brighton joined the transfer chase.
The £30million-rated Hoops striker has been out of sorts recently and a host of Premier League clubs want him, including Aston Villa.

Lennon admits the extended transfer window can be unsettling — but insists Edouard is content, despite starting yesterday’s 3-0 win over Hibs on the bench.
He said: “We don’t want Odsonne to go, obviously, and we have had no significant interest in him as yet.
“There’s always a bit of agitation when the window is open, but speaking to him he seems content enough.

“He didn’t have his best of games in Latvia in midweek, but that’s fine.
“Odsonne is a human being at the end of the day. He’s 22.
“He didn’t have the best of games, but we know what we have got here with Odsonne.
“We know what a talent he is. He is a quality player.”

The Covid-19 crisis saw Fifa extend the transfer window to Monday, October 5, leading to extra strain on managers.
Lennon wants a left-sided player to complete his own squad, but he is also braced for offers for star men.
Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer, Olivier Ntcham and Tom Rogic have all been the subject of interest.

The Celtic boss hopes to keep his squad intact but won’t relax until after the window closes.
He said: “We knew the date coming into it and I’m not exclusive to this, a lot of managers will be in the same position.
“You get to take a deep breath after October 5 and look forward to the rest of the season, or at least until January.
“I am hoping it will be pretty quiet. We would like to get another player in, one more if we can.
“I would be absolutely delighted if that’s going to be the outcome. But I can’t predict what’s going to happen one way or the other.”

Rangers star Ryan Kent ‘getting close’ to England call-up after stunning start to season, predicts Gary McAllister

RANGERS No2 Gary McAllister believes Ryan Kent must be ‘getting close’ to an England call-up.

The former Liverpool youngster also played a part in two other goals that night before helping Steven Gerrard’s men to a 5-1 win at Motherwell on Sunday.
Kent has represented England at Under-18 and Under-20 level on a handful of occasions.
And Ibrox assistant McAllister said in the build-up to the Motherwell game he believes the 23-year-old “must be getting close” to a first senior cap.

He said: “What I’d say is that when he’s performing the way he did against a team from Holland – Williem II are a good side who are in the Europa League on merit – then he must be getting close.
“There is a push towards younger players with the England set-up under Gareth Southgate. And Ryan is exciting.
“I don’t want to be shouting from the rooftops but there is a player here who is in really good form.”
Rangers boss Gerrard hailed Kent for his inspiring performance in the Netherlands.

He said: “From an attacking point of view, I think Ryan was the game changer for us tonight.
“He does incredibly well running in behind and he has added that into his game this season.
“He gets us the penalty for the breakthrough and he is just a constant threat. He is so sharp and he has added a different dimension to his game.

The footage shows a Rangers player throwing a punch at one of the Aberdeen boys before a couple of his other Gers team-mates throw some hits of their own.
One Aberdeen player can be seen falling to the deck with a kick aimed at his face as the ugly scenes were captured on film.
The fight – recorded by a punter on the Aberdeen side – comes to an end with the Dons squad left seething at their opponents.

Shouts of “can someone call the police please” can be heard off camera.
While another person says “Supporters club game on a f***ing Sunday.”
“He’s bleeding. He’s f***ing bleeding” can also be heard off camera.
As the footage comes to an end an Aberdeen player makes his way across to the side of the pitch with his hand covered in blood.

It is unclear what sparked the brawl.

The bad blood between both clubs had been bubbling when Alex Ferguson’s Dons broke the Old Firm duoply in the 80s.
But the bitter rivalry exploded following Neil Simpson’s horror tackle on a young Ian Durrant in 1988 – eight years after Wille Johnston’s stamp on John McMaster.
Now more than three decades on, the toxic relationship between both sets of fans still very much exists and the fixture is often marred by trouble in the stands.
