Rangers’ Europa League opponents Standard Liege record FOUR positive Covid results prior to Thursday’s clash in Belgium

RANGERS’ Europa League opponents Standard Liege have confirmed FOUR positive Covid-19 results ahead of Thursday’s clash in Belgium.
Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Nicolas Raskin, Moussa Sissako and goalkeeper coach Jan Van Steenberghe have all returned positive results.

The foursome have immediately gone into quarantine and will play no part in the group stage opener with the Gers.
Damjan Pavlovic and Abdoul Fessal Tapsoba, who tested negative but live together and spent the evening with Sissako, have also been separated from the main group pending the results of a second test.
A club statement from Standard Liege read: “Michel-Ange Bilikwisha, Nicolas Raskin, Moussa Sissako and our goalkeeper coach Jan Van Steenberghe have tested positive for Covid-19.

“On Tuesday morning, the entire delegation of the Rouches underwent a Covid-19 test in view of Thursday’s European match against Rangers FC.
“This morning we received the results and it showed that Michel-Ange, Nicolas, Moussa and Jan are positive.
“The foursome immediately went into quarantine and will therefore not participate in the matches against Rangers FC on Thursdsay and on the STVV field on Sunday.
“As a precautionary measure, Damjan Pavlovic and Abdoul Fessal Tapsoba, who tested negative but are living together and spent the evening yesterday with Moussa Sissako, were also separated from the nucleus pending the results of a new test.”

The news come as the Belgian side confirmed they had been granted permission to host a reduced crowd at the Stade Maurice Dufranse.
Uefa blocked fans from attending qualifiers – but clubs can now open stands if local authorities allow.
And 3750 Standard supporters will be in attendance – but the sale of booze has been banned – after a consultation between the City of Liege and the club.

Celtic star Nir Bitton says he couldn’t even STAND as he opens up on Covid-19 hell that left him fearing for his health

NIR BITTON has told of his Covid-19 hell and revealed: I couldn’t even stand up.
The Celtic star picked up the deadly coronavirus while away on international duty with Israel.

Bitton admits he underestimated the disease and called for urgent talks to limit who can be involved in next month’s international fixtures.
He said: “I went through some hard days with this virus. It wasn’t easy at all. Before I got the disease I underestimated it, but it was not pleasant.
“I had headaches, my muscles ached and I could not stand up. I had to sit.

“You do not know what you are heading towards. Everyone knows how the disease starts, but not how it ends.
“If it affected me, a young and athletic guy, I do not know how it affects older people.
“We see deaths and I need to say to people, watch out. Stay at home and look after your relatives. This is not an easy disease.
“I am still without taste and smell, but I hope it will come back soon and that the hardships are behind me.”

Bitton is now allowed out of isolation from his Glasgow home but faces a host of tests before he can make a Celtic return.
The experienced Hoops defender insists his club’s Covid-19 regime is watertight, with players all following orders.
But Bitton reckons it’s no coincidence that there was a flurry of positive tests during the international break.
Israel team-mate Hatem Elhamed and Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard caught the bug and missed Saturday’s derby defeat to Rangers.

    3

Ryan Christie was also forced to isolate for 14 days after Scotland team-mate Stuart Armstrong tested positive.
Bitton insists any player from a club with a recent outbreak shouldn’t be allowed to play international football.
He said: “At Celtic we have been in a regime for four months since I returned from Israel.
“No families, no restaurants, no friends and almost no leisure life. We take care of ourselves.
“Then you go to the national team and suddenly there is a sick player.
“You find out after a few days and you know there will probably be more patients.

    3

“There is no solution. The only solution is to cancel the squad meetings and it will not happen.
“If a team suddenly has some positives, sometimes you should not take a risk.
“You have to keep players in an environment that is comfortable and sterile.
“If that means not inviting players from a team that has had an outbreak, then that’s what it should be.”

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has lucky escape after three-car crash in Scotland

CELTIC star Leigh Griffiths had a lucky escape after he was involved in a car crash.
The 30-year-old’s Audi was involved in a three motor smash at a busy roundabout near his home on Sunday night.

It’s thought the accident happened after cars stopped to let an ambulance on a 999 call take priority on the Bellshill bypass in Lanarkshire.
Fortunately, there was only minor damage to the cars involved and no injuries or further police action.
An onlooker said: “I recognised Griffiths’ black Audi and saw him at the side of it.

“It looked like everyone was OK but like anyone in that position, you are a bit shocked.
“It appeared the drivers were swapping details but that was about it.”
Today, smashed bits of a car were lying at the side of the road where the prang took place.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “About 7.49pm on Sunday, 18 October, 2020 a three vehicle minor road traffic crash happened on the B7071 in Bothwell.

”There were no injuries and no further police action.”
In May last year, Scotland international Griffiths was convicted of clocking up his third speeding offence by doing 54mph in a 40mph zone in Edinburgh.
Justice Hillary Stevenson fined him £500 and endorsed his driving licence with three points which took him up to nine, one offence away from a road ban.

Griffiths came on as a sub in the 2-0 defeat by Rangers at Celtic Park on Saturday.
He’s recently returned to the squad after being slaughtered by boss Neil Lennon for piling on the pounds during lockdown.
In July, we revealed he was spending the Covid-19 stay-at-home period making Tiktok videos impersonating Freddie Mercury, film stars and even Lennon.

Liverpool and Rangers legend Graeme Souness branded a ‘d***’ in astonishing outburst from ex-player Hugh Burns

GRAEME SOUNESS has been branded a ‘d***’ by former Rangers defender Hugh Burns over his choice of footwear on Sky Sports.
The former Light Blues stopper was quickly shipped out on loan to Hamilton Accies before joining Hearts on a permanent deal a year later following Souness’ arrival at Ibrox in 1986.

    1

Hugh Burns is not a fan of Rangers idol Graeme Souness’s choice of footwear

Burns, who made over 50 appearances for the Ibrox side, is more recently known for his viral commentary of ‘What’s the goalie doin’ Tom?’ while working on Rangers TV.
His passionate outburst followed Moussa Dembele’s lobbed effort over Wes Foderingham to bring Celtic level in the 3-2 Ibrox classic in 2018.
And his latest comments about Souness are likely to prove unpopular.

The pundit was discussing plimsoll shoes on the Talking Football Show when he interrupted host Bill Young and fellow guest Gordon Young to take aim at his former Ibrox gaffer.
Burns said: “I have got to say something.
“I was watching Sky last night and Souness had a pair (of ‘sandshoes’) on.
“He’s not my favourite person anyway but he looked like a right topper.”

Young replied: “What have you got against him?”
    Burns continued: “Because he’s a d***.
“He’s a right trumpet sitting there (adopts Souness impression) ‘That’s for sure.’
“All the gear on with a pair of sannies. Some of us can still carry it but not him.
“He thinks he’s still 40 that diddy.”
Meanwhile, Rangers supporters group the Union Bears have mocked their rivals the Green Brigade with their own poster stunt around the city.
Connor Goldson grabbed a double as the Light Blues opened up a four point gap at the top of the Premiership with Saturday’s 2-0 Old Firm victory.

And with Steven Gerrard’s men winning on the park – the supporters have grabbed the bragging rights off it.
Prior to Saturday’s derby at Parkhead, the Green Brigade shared a number of stunts online including plastering Celtic posters from iconic Old Firm clashes across the city.
And now Rangers diehards the Union Bears have done their own trolling by posting a video of them travelling around Glasgow and sticking up pictures in various locations – including at Celtic Park.

Steven Gerrard’s water firm Angel Revive ‘almost £1m in debt’ despite Rangers boss hailing its ‘superhero’ qualities

A BOTTLED water firm which is closely-associated with Steven Gerrard is almost £1million in debt, according to reports.
The Rangers gaffer is a brand ambassador for Angel Revive, a water supplier which sources water from a spring in rural Lancashire.

    3

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard’s water firm is reportedly almost £1million in debtCredit: Kenny Ramsay – The Sun Glasgow

The Ibrox boss regularly refers to the firm as HIS water on his personal Instagram acount – and only recently arranged for the company to act as a partner for a charity match to help raise funds for a young Celtic fan fighting brain cancer.
But according to the Daily Star, latest accounts show that the company owes £931,912 – but has only assets worth £127,285.
The firm’s operations are run by the Doyle family at a plant in St Helens.
Rangers and Angel Revive have both been contacted for comment.

    3

The Rangers boss provdes regular advertorials for the firm
A quote from Gerrard on the company’s website claims that “Angel Revive is the superhero of waters in purity, nutrition and healthiness.”
Back in 2018, Gerrard posted a picture of the company’s range with the message: “My new sports, natural Alkaline spring water. With natural electrolytes. Ph 8.2. Now on sale.”
The website claims: “Our water trickles down through multiple layers of mineral rock across the Pennines into an aquifer; a naturally formed underground chamber deep in the earth protected from all outside contamination.

    3

Steven Gerrard is brand ambassador for the water firm
“Angel Revive is collected at source, UV tested for safety and then bottled locally.

“The water from the aquifer remains untouched by humans throughout the entire process – what’s bottled is water as pure as nature can provide.
“Our water is naturally alkaline, which means there is no loss of pH soon after opening like with ionised water.”
EX-RATED Rangers legend Souness branded a ‘d***’ in astonishing outburst from ex-player Hugh Burns
Boss Mark Doyle has said: “Our spring and its water have been the subject of numerous reports and commentary since Elizabethan times as to the curative benefits of water.
“However we do not claim our water can heal you – the belief is your own.

“For unknown reasons the spring had been covered over and buried for over a century until its history and benefits were brought to the attention of the current landowner.”
Meanwhile, former Aberdeen striker Noel Whelan has branded Alfredo Morelos as ‘petulant and childish’ after his slap on Celtic skipper Scott Brown.
The Rangers striker was caught on camera raising his hands to the Hoops midfielder as the Light Blues ran out 2-0 winners at Parkhead.

Jack Wilshere trains in local park to keep fit as injury-plagued ex-Arsenal searches for new club after West Ham axing

JACK WILSHERE has stepped up his search for a new club after training at a local park following his release from West Ham.
The 28-year-old mutually agreed to terminate his £100,000-a-week contract at the London Stadium earlier this month after falling down the pecking order.

Despite just 16 Premier League appearances in two years for the Hammers, Wilshere has declared he has been injury free for the last eight months.
And he has been keeping fit by training with his organisation NCF Elites, with Wilshere taking to a bobbly pitch.
In the clip that was uploaded on social media, Wilshere was involved in a three-man training drill, where he could be seen coolly slotting his effort into the bottom left corner.
Replying to the post, one Arsenal fan said: “Sign him up @Arsenal Looks slimmer and sharper.

“On a free. Homegrown. Can play #6, #8 and #10. Has the qualities we miss in our team right now. Plus, he’s one of us!”
The former Bolton loanee has been heavily linked with a move to Rangers to link up with former England international team-mate Steven Gerrard.
Speaking shortly after his departure from West Ham, Wilshere announced he is keen to ply his trade in either Spain or Italy.
He said: “I’m open to anything really. I think I want to try something different, I’m leaning towards that.

    3

Wilshere has been linked with a move to join Scottish giants RangersCredit: Twitter @@NCF_Elites

“Maybe LaLiga, Italy, something a little bit different and not many English players have done.
“I was in this position when I left Arsenal. What I learnt from that is take your time and make sure it’s right for you.
“I’m not saying I have regrets going to West Ham because in my head things would have turned out differently but that’s football – but this time I’m going take my time and find something that suits me.
“I just want to be happy and be playing football again. Honestly, I can’t tell you the last time, probably when I signed for West Ham, the first three games before I picked up an injury.
“That was probably the last time I was happy playing football.
“I just want to be happy, going back on the pitch, get a smile on my face, play 20-30 games a season where I’m an important player for a team.
“Obviously it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to and I was frustrated about that but that’s football.

“At the end of the day the manager picks a team and once he’s got his team it’s very difficult to get him to change that, especially the last season when we was fighting for survival.
“I thought maybe I’ll get more of a chance this year but he made it clear to me that I wasn’t, that it was probably in my best interest I left and tried to find something else so I did.
“That is all you ask for, honesty, and that is what he was with me and we came to a decision and it’s probably the best for everyone.”

Rangers ace Morelos could have been sent off for slapping Scott Brown on the head, blasts Chris Sutton

FORMER Celtic star Chris Sutton believes Alfredo Morelos was lucky to remain on the park in the Old Firm derby.
The striker was perhaps fortunate that VAR is yet to be introduced in Scotland after his latest grapple with Scott Brown in the 2-0 win for Rangers.

    1

Morelos slapping the back on Brown’s head

Rangers the better team and deservedly ahead… not so sure Morelos should still be on the pitch…
    — Chris Sutton (@chris_sutton73) October 17, 2020

Hoops skipper Brown picked the ball up on the halfway line and drove into the Gers half.
Morelos was the one to track him down and John Beaton adjudged the Colombian to have fouled Brown.
Morelos took exception to the decision and he and Brown had words as the Celts lined up the free kick.
As Brown turned away to watch the in-swinging delivery from Callum McGregor, Morelos gave the skinhead 35-year-old a slap across the back of the head.

Brown – obviously angry at first – turned round to confront the Light Blues forward and called him a f****** d*******.
And Sutton believes Morelos was lucky to escape punishment for the clash.
He tweeted: “Rangers the better team and deservedly ahead…not so sure Morelos should still be on the pitch.”
Morelos later had a coming together with Hoops’ defender Shane Duffy as he challenged the Irishman for a header that he was not going to win.

Former Scotland captain Darren Fletcher echoed Suttons’ thoughts and believes the striker must calm down before he lets his teammates down.
The Sky Sports pundit said: “This is the way he plays; he is always on the edge.

“Until you give him a yellow card, he is going to keep doing these niggly things.
“He’s very lucky here though [Brown slap], very very lucky.
“There’s nothing it and Scott Brown doesn’t react, but you could let your teammates down.
“He got sent off here last season when they won, and he has got to be really careful.”
