Bayern Munich vs Celtic prediction: Free betting tips, odds and Champions League preview for second leg

BAYERN MUNICH have a 2-1 lead over Celtic heading into their Champions League play-off second leg on Tuesday. So SunSport have enlisted the help of their betting experts to preview the European showdown and select the best bets, tips and exclusive sign-up bonuses from our leading betting partners.Find The Sun’s betting publishing principles hereNew sign-up offersSunSport exclusivesBayern Munich vs Celtic previewDefeat at Parkhead makes the task of progression to the round of 16 almost impossible for Celtic.Even victory might not have been enough last week, given Bayern’s ability to blow sides away at home. The Hoops defended well for the majority of the night before conceding to a stunning Michael Olise strike on the stroke of half time. A lapse in concentration allowed Harry Kane to add a second just minutes into the second half. The tie has been just about kept alive by Daizen Maeda’s goal with 10 minutes to go.Brendan Rodgers might want to take notice of Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen, who held Bayern to a goalless draw on Saturday and restricted them to NO shots of any description in the first half for the first time in decades and not a single shot on target in 90 minutes for only the second league match in 20 years.Might it be the perfect time to play them? Time will tell. Celts registered 21 efforts at goal beating Dundee United 3-0 at Celtic Park on Saturday, while being able to rest a couple of their key players in the process.William Hill make them 28/1 to progress and Bayern 1/100. So fair to say them progressing is quite a stretch.First scorer and correct score predictionsCorrect score: 4-1 at 11/1 with Betfred – HEREFirst scorer: Michael Olise 13/2 with talkSPORT BET – HEREBayern Munich vs Celtic latest oddsBayern Munich at 2/13 with William Hill – CLAIM HEREOdds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change. How to claim..William Hill £60 welcome bonusVisit the William Hill website HERE*Register an account using the Promo Code: T60Once your account is registered, click ‘opt in’ on the ‘Vegas Promotion’ pageDeposit a minimum of £10 in your main account to receive a £20 Vegas Bonus for use on Selected GamesThen place a bet with a minimum stake of £10 at odds of 1/2 or greater on any football marketOnce that’s settled, your account will be credited with £40 in free betsWilliam Hill: Claim £60 welcome bonus – click here*Bayern Munich vs Celtic predictions and tipsBlow away earlyThis tie could be put to bed early doors, with Bayern having the ability to blow Celtic away in the first half. They HAVE to respond to the poor attacking showing from Saturday and actually had five shots – with two on target – in the opening 45 minutes last Wednesday.Celtic will be trying to keep the tie alive in the early exchanges but that might prove tough.Ol or nothingMichael Olise scored the opening goal in the first leg and is one of the standouts to perform here. That was his first goal since mid-January but can be the attacking force down their right.Michael Olise shot on target in each half at 23/10 – CLAIM HERE*William Hill. 18+. Scottish Premiership star spotted calling for his manager to be SACKED as he turns up at Glasgow Premier League darts

A CHEEKY Scottish Premiership star called for his manager to be SACKED when he was spotted making a surprise appearance at the Premier League darts.A number of footballers were in attendance at the bash at the OVO Hydro including St Johnstone’s former Rangers star Nicky Clark and Celtic hero Arne Engels.Zach Hemming at Celtic ParkCredit: Kenny RamsaySt Mirren’s Zach Hemmings holds up a sign which reads ‘Robbo out!!!’ at the dartsCredit: SNSBut one man who went even further than that was St Mirren goalkeeper Zach Hemming, who livened up his evening by holding a handwritten ‘Robbo Out!!’ sign at the camera. That’s a lighthearted swipe at his gaffer Stephen Robinson, who has performed miracles with the Paisley side in recent seasons. Hemming, 24, was a big part of the side which finished fifth last season, making 33 appearances on a loan spell from Middlesbrough. While he spent the first half of this season at League One side Leyton Orient, he returned to his parent club on 1 January with manager Robinson keen to make the deal permanent.Robinson said at the time: “He was very successful last season and we will be in discussions with Middlesbrough as we look at the potential of making it permanent at the end of the season.”There was no shortage of drama on the night with World Champion Luke Litter on the brink of DEFEAT at the quarter-final stage as he found himself 5-1 down to 2018 world champion Rob Cross. But the 18-year-old arrows sensation fought back to win and in the semi-final he beat Michael van Gerwen 6-2 in a rematch of their World Championship final clash. That set up another match up between world number one Humphries and number two Littler – and it was Littler who pocketed the £10,000 prize with a little help from an 170 finish. Most read in FootballLittler remarked on the standard of play in the final between him and Humphries: “It was a weird final. St Mirren fans try to rush away end vs Dundee United”We both weren’t playing well.”Now and again I look up at the screen and we’re on a 90 average. The crowd got involved.”Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page More

Super Caley go ballistic 25 years on – Inside the Celtic shock which spawned famous Sun headline and where they are now

THE biggest shock in Scottish Cup history. The greatest-ever headline on the nation’s sports pages. The crazy Celtic Park upset took place 25 years ago on February 8Credit: Times Newspapers LtdIt was a game which led to the famous Scottish Sun headlineCredit: News Group Newspapers LtdThe headline is still remembered to this dayCredit: News Group Newspapers LtdCharlie Christie will never forget the game – or the iconic headline!Credit: Ken Macpherson – Commissioned by The Sun GlasgowTwenty-five years ago today, Super Caley went ballistic — and Celtic were atrocious. And Highland great Charlie Christie, the ex-Celt who was man of the match in the 3-1 win, admits the legendary headline in The Scottish Sun has become just as famous as the game itself.Christie, now 58, told SunSport: “The headline is synonymous with the game. I use the word ‘ballistic’ all the time now and it’s not a word I’d ever used before then.“Sky Sports showed the headline the next day when we were celebrating, our fans have used it in chants — it summed it up at the time, and it still does.”Ryan Christie’s first-ever trip to Celtic Park revolved around tantrums and tears. For dad Charlie, it was all about souvenirs. The one he kept, the one he lost and the one he missed out on.Twenty-five years ago today — long before he would star for Inverness Caley Thistle or Celts — four-year-old Ryan cheered his father on the Highlanders’ greatest night. Most read in FootballA club just two years older than the little boy stunned John Barnes’ all-stars in one of the most famous giantkillings in Scottish Cup history.Super Caley did, indeed, go ballistic — and so did Ryan when the original tie was called off due to storm damage at Parkhead.Celtic board is getting pelters from fans but that’s NOT where blame lies for transfer flopCharlie recalled: “Ryan threw a bit of a tantrum when the game was called off ten days earlier.“To calm him down, his mum Sharon promised him that when the game was rescheduled he would definitely get to it.“Little did we know it would be a rain-soaked Tuesday night. He was delighted.“You see how his career has panned out with his time at Celtic, it was quite fitting he was there that night.“He remembers the celebration. He doesn’t remember much of the game — typical for a four-year-old.“But he remembers the feeling of euphoria with the 4500 fans that something special had occurred.”Caley Thistle’s celebrations peaked when Steve Paterson’s heroes linked hands and charged towards their jubilant fans. But Christie was absent from the iconic image.Caley Thistle players celebrateCredit: Times Newspapers LtdHe explained: “I missed out on the most famous photograph in the club’s history.“Some idiot took me to the sidelines and grabbed me and gave me the man of the match award.“I think Ryan and Sharon were down there, too, and I sort of lost what was happening behind me.“I ran over to them after they’d finished and said, ‘Thanks a lot lads, you could have waited!’“I was a bit disappointed I’m not in the photo but it was great the fans stayed behind. It was another layer on that night. That picture, like the Scottish Sun’s famous headline, is quite synonymous with the game — the lads with their arms out-stretched going over to the fans.”Along with his man of the match award, Christie kept the No 10 shirt he wore in the great giantkilling. But it was then LOST on the night of the club’s 25th anniversary celebrations in 2019 — and he’s never been reunited with it.The Highland great revealed: “It was the 25-year anniversary dinner at the Kingsmills Hotel.“We selected a few strips which meant something and that, of course, was one of them.“Some of the young lads were wearing them around the room.“I took my shirt down and I was on the microphone that night.Paul Sheerin scores penalty.Credit: News Group Newspapers Ltd“When we collected all the strips at the end of the night, it was gone.“Dan Mackay, who was an academy player I had coached and later went to Hibs, wore it and laid it out with the rest at the end of the night.“But it disappeared and I’ve never got it back.”And twenty-five years on from their greatest night, Christie has revealed boss Steve Paterson had to change his team at the last moment. He said: “Davide Xausa was unavailable for the game because there was a late problem with his registration.“He was Canadian and I don’t know if it was something to do with his international clearance.“It led to Barry Wilson playing in the No 10 role behind Dennis Wyness, which would never otherwise have happened.“Barry scored one and won the penalty and I’ve often thought it was another little thing, like the first game being postponed, which worked in our favour.“Steve was at our game last week and we were speaking about the Celtic game.“He said that was the game that planted Inverness football on the map. Those were his words.“He’s right. It laid the foundations. It gave a six-year-old club the belief that it could really go places.“We were sixth in the First Division at the time. And coming through the divisions, we always felt we could make it to the First Division but we weren’t sure about making the final step.“I just feel that night gave everyone around the club that extra bit of belief.“John Barnes was a fantastic player but it just hadn’t worked for him at the club. The monumental shock defeat led to John Barnes’ exitCredit: PA:Press Association“Things weren’t great at the time because they were trailing Rangers by quite a bit, which is never a good thing.“You could actually feel that the tide was turning and the fans were getting fed up with the way the club was run.”Christie recalls the wild celebrations on the way home to the Highlands — and for a few days afterwards. He said: “You can imagine the journey home from Glasgow.“Celtic were good enough to put some beers on the bus.“We stopped on the way up the road at Pitlochry, a usual haunt after away games.“The next day — and it was said as an off-the-cuff comment — ‘let’s meet for a bit of lunch at the golf club’.“It was Fairways Golf Club, who were a sponsor of the club at the time, and a wee bit out of the centre.“What you thought might be three or four turned into 12 or 13.“It was just a great day.“We had Sky Sports on the telly and we were all over the headlines.“It was a Caley Thistle stronghold and a lot of the fans were coming in.“Word got out we were in there and it was a special feeling where you know you’ve done something special.”THEY returned up the A9 as Highland heroes after the greatest win in the club’s history. But Charlie Christie feared Inverness Caley Thistle would have been on the road to ruin if they had not won at Celtic Park.Life-saving cash from one of Scottish football’s biggest shocks allowed them to pay for the tarmac outside their own ground. And 25 years on — with the club now in the grip of administration — Christie has told the current squad to summon the spirit of 2000 to get on the road to recovery. He revealed: “People forget we were really struggling financially, mainly because of the road which we had to put money towards when the stadium was built.“It was a legacy of debt we had.“Dougie McGilvray, the chairman, did a great job and his successor David Sutherland, too.”Duncan Ferguson left his role as manager after Inverness were plunged into administrationCredit: Kenny RamsayMcGilvray and Sutherland were on the pitch at the end and Christie added: “It was quite a turnaround at the club. We restructured the debt and we were able to step on.“I spoke to the boys when we went into administration. I brought up 2000.“These are young guys of 20 or 21 years of age.“They probably didn’t know me but I speak to them intermittently to update them on where we are as a club.“I said to them, ‘Guys, we can come out the other end. We did it in 2000’.“A lot of it in 2000 was down to that one result.“The boys in that team, the majority of them were pals.“After the win, we had contact from ex-pats in Australia and South Africa to congratulate us.“But people don’t realise — and we kept it undercover to a degree at the time — how bad the financial problems at the club were.“I told the players we can bounce on again. Make no mistake, there’s no reason that we can’t.“Whether we go back to Parkhead and beat Celtic again, I’m not so sure. But we can certainly get back to the Premiership again.“It’s good for the young lads to hear because a lot of them weren’t born when the game took place. It’s good for them to see where the club has been in the past.”Head coach Scott Kellacher takes his young squad to Arbroath today as they look to recover the 15-point penalty for plummeting into administration last autumn.Scott Kellacher and assistant manager Gary BollanCredit: SNSThey lie in ninth place, two points from potential safety, after back-to-back wins over Queen of the South and Alloa. Most of Kellacher’s players weren’t even born when the club went ballistic in 2000.But walking through the corridors at the Caledonian Stadium, they are given reminders of some of the heroics of previous teams.Dennis Wyness, one of the stars at Celtic Park, scored the only goal to eliminate Seville-bound Celts from the Scottish Cup in 2003 under boss John Robertson.Greg Tansey, Edward Ofere and David Raven scored in the 2015 Hampden semi-final win over the Hoops — one remembered for a handball on the Caley Jags goal-line which the officials amazingly missed.Virgil van Dijk and John Guidetti scored for Celtic but John Hughes’ Caley Thistle reached the final with Marley Watkins and James Vincent netting against the Bairns and captain Graeme Shinnie lifting the trophy.Highland legend Christie added: “The 2000 game was, for many years, our best result.“But I do think we usurped it in 2015 when we beat Celtic in the semi-final at Hampden.“I know we beat Celtic in 2003 with John, and I played in that game too.“But to go to Hampden to play a Celtic team that was going for the Double — and, yes, we got all the breaks that were going with the handball — it usurped us.READ MORE SUN STORIES“We won the Cup in 2015 against Falkirk at Hampden but that semi-final was special.”Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page More

Celtic announce Uefa disciplinary notice that could see fans BANNED from Bayern Munich away game

CELTIC have warned their travlling fans that they are risking being DENIED access should they buy tickets and travel for their play-off round clash. The Hoops have been learned this morning that they will face Bayern Munich in the next round of Europe’s glamour club competition.A green flare has to be removed from the pitch at Villa ParkBut the bad news for Celtic fans is that their club has now seen fit to warn them that they have RECEIVED a disciplinary notice from UEFA in the wake of their defeat to Aston Villa, a match which saw away fans throw a smoke bomb onto the Villa Park pitch. And that could well trigger an away fan ban for the next match, an outcome which Uefa indicated was on the cards when they offered the club a suspended sentence for the action of their fans earlier in the campaign. In a statement today, the Hoops appeared to be laying the groundwork for precisely such a ban.It read: “As a result of the use of pyrotechnics during our match against Borussia Dortmund last year, Celtic Football Club was sanctioned by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.”The decision meant that, not only did the Club receive a fine of €20,000, but also that, if such behaviour was repeated at a match in the next two years, the Club would be prevented from selling tickets to supporters for one away match in UEFA club competitions.”Unfortunately, the club has received a further disciplinary notice from UEFA following the match against Aston Villa FC on Wednesday evening.  “The Club will obviously make robust representations to UEFA and will make every effort to ensure that our fans can attend our next UEFA Champions League match. “However, clearly there is a risk that supporters may not be able to attend. Most read in Football”In light of this situation, it is incumbent on the club to make supporters aware of this risk, when considering making arrangements for travel, until further information is provided by UEFA.”Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page More

LEGENDARY Scottish football manager Jimmy Calderwood has passed away at the age of 69.The popular former Aberdeen and Dunfermline manager had been battling dementia.Jimmy Calderwood was hugely popular during his time in charge of DunfermlineCredit: Times Newspapers LtdHe led Aberdeen on a famous European run in 2007/08Credit: AFPCalderwood led Kilmarnock to league safetyCredit: PA:Press AssociationJimmy’s partner Yvonne was by his side when he passed awayCalderwood, who also bossed Kilmarnock and Ross County, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2015.He passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning with devoted partner Yvonne Buchanan and her two daughters by his side.Heartbroken Yvonne said: “What can I say? I’ve lost the love of my life to a very cruel disease.“We shared so many special moments together, especially with my children – Mark, Carla and Jolana – and we are all devastated.“We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported and loved him. Your kindness, care and unwavering support meant the world not only to him but to all of us.“I’d like to extend my gratitude to the staff at Abbotsford House in Bearsden, Glasgow.“We kindly ask for privacy during this incredibly sad time and thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.”Born in Glasgow, Jimmy Calderwood made his first team breakthrough as a player with Birmingham City. Most read in FootballHe would go on to make 145 league appearances for the Blues before heading to the Netherlands in 1979.Calderwood would go on to spend a significant period of his life in the country.A midfielder, he played for Sparta Rotterdam, Willem II, Roda JC and Heracles Almelo during a decade-long playing spell in the Netherlands. He remained in the country after retiring as a player and his first two managerial jobs were there.Calderwood was Willem II boss from 1996 until 1997 before spending two years in charge of NEC Nijmegen.A return to Scottish football materialised and in 1999 he was appointed manager of Dunfermline Athletic. He would go on to become one of our game’s most recognisable, entertaining and well liked characters.A hugely popular figure at East End Park, Calderwood would go on to enjoy a successful five-year stint with the Pars.Calderwood led Dunfermline to promotion to the SPL just months after his appointment. The club were comfortably safe in their first season back in the top tier before going on to secure a top six finish in the 2001/02 season. They would go on to finish in the top six again in each of the next two seasons, ending the 2003/04 campaign in fourth. That was a particularly successful season for Calderwood and Dunfermline, who also reached the Scottish Cup Final where they would ultimately lose to Celtic. That success also saw the Pars qualify for the Uefa Cup, but Calderwood wouldn’t be in charge for their foray into Europe – the club’s first in 35 years. That’s because he left the club to take over at Aberdeen ahead of the 2004/05 campaign.Jimmy Calderwood’s managerial careerWillem II 1996-97NEC Nijmegen 1997-99Dunfermline Athletic 1999-2004Aberdeen 2004-09Kilmarnock 2010Ross County 2011Go Ahead Eagles 2012De Graafschap 2014Dunfermline revealed the news of Calderwood’s passing and paid tribute to their former boss.Dunfermline CEO David Cook said: “On behalf of everyone at Dunfermline Athletic, we are all shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Jimmy Calderwood.”Jimmy constructed a fantastic squad of players in the early 2000s that had Pars fans on the edge of their seats with his bold attacking style of football.”He brought some magnificent moments to this club, none more so than helping us reach the Scottish Cup Final in 2004. The sea of black and white at Hampden was testament to the force he had created.”The top six finishes would continue for Calderwood at Aberdeen, who led the Dons to third spot in 2006/07.That gave them a place in the Uefa Cup the following campaign and it proved to be a memorable one for Aberdeen.Reaching the group stage, the Dons progressed from a group that contained Atletico Madrid, Panathinaikos, Copenhagen and Lokomotiv Moscow. That set up a round of 32 clash with the German giants Bayern Munich. On a famous night at Pittodrie, the Dons held Bayern to a 2-2 draw in front of a raucous, sell-out crowd. They’d ultimately fall to defeat in Germany.Calderwood signed a contract extension later that month but just over a year later he departed the role, despite qualifying for European competition once again. In a statement, Aberdeen said: “Everyone at Aberdeen FC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former manager Jimmy Calderwood.”The thoughts of all at the club are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”He would return to management the following year, taking over at Kilmarnock in January 2010.Calderwood would galvanise a struggling Killie side and would secure their top division status on the last day of the season. After leaving Killie that summer, he had another brief stint the following year, this time at Ross County, then in the second tier.Once again, safety was the objective and an objective Calderwood met.He also enjoyed trophy success with the Staggies who won the Challenge Cup under his leadership.’The manager Rangers almost had’By DAVID LEGGATJIMMY CALDERWOOD was the manager Rangers almost had.In fact he was absolutely convinced he would be the man to take over from Alex McLeish in the summer of 2006.That belief stemmed from a chat he told me he’d had with then Rangers owner Sir David Murray as it became clear big Eck’s trophy-laden spell was coming to an end.Jimmy and I became pals more than half a century ago when he had just broken into the Birmingham City side at the same time that I arrived in the city to become chief football writer of the biggest-selling Saturday sports paper in Britain, the Sports Argus. We quickly became good pals as our backgrounds were the same. Working class guys from Glasgow who loved football and supported Rangers. That friendship endured and it was why he invited me to stay over in his family home in Aberdeen after his side had beaten McLeish’s Rangers at Pittodrie on a frozen night. It was in his living room that he revealed to me the chat he had had with Murray which led him to believe he would be the man to succeed McLeish.Read David Leggat’s tribute to his lifelong friend Jimmy Calderwood in full.Calderwood returned to the Netherlands as Go Ahead Eagles boss in 2012 before becoming boss at De Graafschap in 2014, in what would be his final managerial role.He would leave the club less than a month after being appointed in January after being furious at the decision to sell a couple of key players.Just over three years later, in August 2017, Calderwood revealed the heartbreaking news that he was battling dementia. The legendary boss said he’d been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s two years previously and had been receiving treatment.Speaking at the time, he said: “If, by making this public I can help others talk more openly about dementia, then that will be something positive.”That is why I have spoken with Alzheimer Scotland and invited them along to join me today.”I haven’t been comfortable with keeping this as a secret and when I recently heard that an old team mate of mine in Holland is also living with Alzheimer’s Disease, it prompted me to go public.”Right now I am still fine, except for being a bit forgetful with some names but I am determined to continue enjoying my life.”Four years later, Calderwood’s son Scott – who worked alongside his father in football – delivered a harrowing update and revealed that Jimmy no longer knew who he was.And now comes the devastating news that Jimmy Calderwood has passed away, just over seven years on from revealing his health battle.Since the news broke, tributes have flooded in to one of Scottish football’s most beloved characters.Jamie Langfield, who was Aberdeen goalkeeper under Calderwood, posted a heartfelt tribute to his former boss.He said: “Absolutely gutted to hear of the passing of Jimmy Calderwood, he was the main reason I went on to have the career I did, he took a chance on me when no one else would, we had our ups and downs but he was so positive with me and help me in so many ways. What a great man.”Another ex-Dons star, Richard Foster, said: “What a sad day. Jimmy had such a profound impact on my life – professionally and personally.”We didn’t always see eye to eye and had some cracking arguments over the years but he gave me some of the best experiences of my career and I owe him so much.”One thing is for sure, he will be remembered throughout the game. A Scottish football giant.”Kilmarnock added: “Everyone at Kilmarnock Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former manager Jimmy Calderwood. Our thoughts are with Jimmy’s family and friends at this time.”READ MORE SUN STORIESThe Scottish FA said: “We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jimmy Calderwood after his passing today.”Jimmy Calderwood played for Birmingham CityCredit: GettyHe won the Challenge Cup with Ross CountyCredit: Kenny Ramsay – The Sun GlasgowJimmy Calderwood revealed his health battle in 2017Credit: Keith Campbell – The Sun GlasgowHe will be remembered as one of Scottish football’s most popular charactersCredit: Les Gallagher – The Sun GlasgowKeep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page More
