Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater reveals he is seeing psychologist and £110k-a-week ‘doesn’t solve anything’

DANNY DRINKWATER has revealed he is seeing a sports psychologist following a number of off-the-field incidents that have halted his career.
The 30-year-old – who has stated he is on the lookout for a new club – has played just 28 games in the last three seasons.

He has failed to make a name for himself at Chelsea following his £34million switch from Leicester in 2017, and endured two miserable loan spells at Burnley and Aston Villa.
In recent times the England international has been charged with drink driving, been beaten up outside a nightclub last September and headbutted former Villans team-mate Jota.
Drinkwater has opened up on how he has fallen out of love with football, but is looking forward to rebuilding his career.
Speaking to the Telegraph, he said: “I know my Chelsea move hasn’t worked out how anybody would have wanted and I’ve made mistakes, but it’s not as simple as me just not playing football or picking up a wage.

“Money doesn’t solve anything. The pay cheque doesn’t really help at all, you don’t even think about money.
“There have been things that come above football that have not been as simple as I’d like.
“I’m not looking for sympathy, f*** me I don’t want that, but I suppose I’d just like people to understand it’s not all gravy when you earn so much money and that I do care.”

Drinkwater after nightclub attack last September
Reflecting on being banned for drink driving whilst not in the plans of Maurizio Sarri, he commented: “I won’t use Chelsea as an excuse for the drink driving.

“Obviously, my mental state wasn’t the best, but it was ridiculous and it should never have happened.”
He then lifted the lid on what happened outside of the nightclub during his loan at Turf Moor, with it initially claimed he was attacked after flirting with another man’s girlfriend.
Drinkwater said: “I was pinching around the team then. Someone said I had tried to chat up some footballer’s girlfriend, but that just wasn’t the case.
“I got jumped and beaten up. It was an international break, so I wasn’t breaking any rules by going out and having a drink. But the timing was awful and the fact I twisted my ankle was the worst thing.
“I went in for a scan the next day and found out it was to do with the bone and I couldn’t believe it. It was just like, ‘Could this get any worse?’.”
After failing to make an impact at Burnley he was sent off on loan to Villa, but once again he hit the headlines following his confrontation with Jota.

After failing to feature against the Foxes, he said: “I got some stick from the fans and I woke up and I was raging. After training I planned to go and speak to Dean Smith about things, but then I went and headbutted Jota.
“We were on the same team, that’s how stupid it was. I’ve never done that, I’ve never laid someone out before. It was ridiculous. I apologised straight away and I had to go home.
“I texted him straight after to apologise and take full responsibility. I Google translated it into Spanish as well to make sure he’d understand.”

Celtic and Rangers would finish in Premier League top six if they quit Scotland, claims Neil Warnock

NEIL WARNOCK believes Celtic and Rangers would finish in the Premier League top six.
The debate has long raged on whether the Old Firm would succeed if they quit Scotland and played in the English top flight.

Neil Warnock believes Celtic and Rangers would finish in the Premier League top six

Warnock backed the Old Firm to compete in the Premier League top six
Former Cardiff boss Warnock told BBC Scottish Football podcas.: “If you put Celtic and Rangers down in England, you’re talking about the top six.
“Those two clubs, if they got the money that the English clubs have coming in, they would spend it.
“They’d spend it on good players and they would then compete.”
Celtic have won nine consecutive league titles with Rangers finishing second.

Tottenham came sixth in the Premier League with Wolves and Arsenal behind them, but Warnock backed the Scots to compete for a top four finish.
He said: “I look at Celtic and Rangers – I don’t think about Man City or Liverpool, I think they’re way ahead – but I think the rest below that, Man United, Chelsea, I think Rangers and Celtic would more than cope with that.
“The money that the Premier League [clubs] get, it wouldn’t take long (for Celtic and Rangers to compete) – within 18 months, two years.”

If you put Celtic and Rangers down in England, you’re talking about the top six.
    Neil Warnock

In 2009 Premier League clubs voted against welcoming Celtic and Rangers into the division.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has recently been linked with the Bournemouth job following Eddie Howe’s departure after their relegation.
Ex-Tottenham defender Jamie O’Hara sparked debate after insisting managing the Cherries in the Championship is a greater challenge than Rangers.
O’Hara told talkSPORT: “I wouldn’t want to disrespect the Rangers people because they are a huge football club but it is a bigger job to potentially be the Bournemouth manager.

“Rangers are a huge, huge football club but for me there are only two teams in Scotland.
“Bournemouth is the potential, they have just dropped out of the Premier League and to get them back into the Premier League.
“They are still a high profile football team. I would take the Bournemouth job. It’s the bigger job.”

And Scotland’s First Minister said some professional sports events may even be tested before then.
Sturgeon said: “We hope that sports stadia will be able to open from that day with limited numbers of spectators albeit with physical distancing in place.
“Some professional sports events may be arranged for spectators before then with Scottish government agreement to test the safety of any new arrangements.”
Fans of English clubs still await news of when they will be allowed back in to watch their teams – although some teams including West Ham have started selling season tickets already regardless.

The news will be hugely welcomed by SPFL clubs across Scotland, who rely heavily on gate receipts as a means to survive.
The Scottish Premiership campaign will kick off behind closed doors this weekend as coronavirus restrictions remain in place, while Scotland’s lower leagues start on October 17.
The first Old Firm game between Celtic and Rangers is scheduled to take place at Celtic Park on the same day, with SPFL chief exec Neil Doncaster hopeful fans will be able to attend.
Speaking earlier this month, the Hampden supremo expressed his belief that a crowd would be there – and that now looks a real possibility.

He said at the time: “We certainly hope so [that fans will be able to attend].
“We are working with the Scottish Government on hopefully getting fans in as soon as safely possible.
“We have been starved of football for four months and we have seen leagues across Europe returning, in some cases with quite a few fans inside the stadium.”
