Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Siu’ celebration began against Chelsea during pre-season friendly

CRISTIANO RONALDO has revealed that his iconic “Siu” celebration was born against former Premier League rivals Chelsea. The Portuguese superstar, now 37, is renowned for his trademark jump in the air and swivel move – accompanied by him shouting “Sii” – whenever he scores a goal.

He regularly performs the unique celebration now, but it was fans in America who first witnessed the pose.
Speaking to the YouTube channel Soccer.com, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner revealed he whipped out the now-classic move while playing for Real Madrid in a friendly against Chelsea.
Ronaldo recalled: “Well, I was in the US and we played against Chelsea and I don’t know where it came from. I just scored and I went, ‘Sii!’
“But it was natural, to be honest.
“After that, I started doing it and I feel like the fans, when they see me they’re like ‘Sii’ and I was like, ‘wow, people remember Cristiano because of the Sii,’ so I continued like that.”
I feel like the fans, when they see me they’re like ‘sii’ and I was like, ‘wow, people remember Cristiano because of the sii,’Cristiano Ronaldo
On that day in 2013, Ronaldo actually scored twice for Real as they beat Chelsea 3-1 to claim the International Champions Cup.
The Manchester United star – who told former team-mate Nani he will finish his career in the MLS – crashed home a 25-yard free-kick after goals from Marcelo and Ramires for the first of his two strikes.
But it was his second finish, a bullet close-range header that Ronaldo pulled out the first version of his ‘Sii’ celebration, minus the swivel.

He added: “In my mind, I have many players I wish to play with, but I’ll mention one from my country who died a few years ago – Eusebio.
“He’s one of the sons of Portugal and I wish to play with him because he’s Portuguese.
“He was an unbelievable person and I wish I could play with him in the national team.”

Who is Cristiano Ronaldo’s girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez? Model is soul-mate of Man Utd superstar and mum to kids

GEORGINA RODRIGUEZ will stick by the side of superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo – even as the Man Utd star looks set for a move away from Manchester. The couple were rocked by the tragic passing of their baby boy in April 2022, but vowed that their newborn daughter was “giving us the strength to live.”
Ronaldo and partner Georgina Rodriguez have been together since 2016Credit: Instagram @georginagio
    Who is Georgina Rodriguez?
Georgina Rodriguez grew up in Jaca, a city in northeastern Spain and part of the province of Huesca, near the Pyrenees.
She was born to a Spanish mum and Argentinian dad.
Georgina learned dance before changing careers to modelling after studying English in London.
The Sun revealed that her father is a convicted cocaine trafficker named Jorge Rodriguez who spent ten years in jail.
The 27-year-old was first spotted on a string of dates with then-Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo towards the end of 2016.
Georgina has claimed that her first meeting with the football star was “love at first sight.”
“Our first meeting was at Gucci, where I worked as a sales assistant,” she recalled in an interview with The Sun .
“Days later, we saw each other again at another brand’s event.
“It was then that we could talk in a relaxed atmosphere, outside my work environment. It was love at first sight for both.”
News of her relationship with the footballer began to emerge in November 2016 when they were snapped walking around Disneyland Paris arm-in-arm and publicly showing their affection for one another.
And despite putting on a disguise, the Italian magazine Chi was able to identify Ronaldo as he cuddled up to his new love interest.
Georgina gave birth to baby daughter Alana Martina on November 12, 2017, with Ronaldo posting a picture on Instagram, writing: “Alana Martina is just born! Both Geo and Alana are doing great! We are all very happy!'”
And just over two years later, the pair were forced to deny rumours that they had got hitched in a low-key ceremony in Morocco.
Cristiano Ronaldo previously shared a cosy family picture of him cuddling three of his children with Georgina RodriguezCredit: Instagram
How did Georgina Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo meet?
Before meeting Ronaldo, Georgina worked at a Gucci store in the Spanish capital of Madrid.
It’s believed the Spanish beauty caught the eye of Cristiano Ronaldo in the VIP area of a Dolce & Gabbana event.
How long have Georgina Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo been dating?
The couple appeared to start dating a few months after Ronaldo was caught cuddling up to fitness model Cassandre Davis in August 2016.
And, while it’s difficult to know exactly how long Ronaldo and Georgina have been together, their first public date was in mid-November 2016.
On February 23, 2017, Ronaldo joked to a friend telling him to “be careful” when he uploaded a photo alongside Georgina.
How many children does Cristiano Ronaldo have?
Ronaldo shares two children with girlfriend Georgina and has a brood of five in total.
The Manchester United stars eldest is 12-year-old son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr – who has already starred for his father’s club at youth level.
In June 2017, Ronaldo then welcomed twins – Eva and Mateo – into the world after a surrogate mother allegedly gave birth to them in the United States.
A month later, Ronaldo confirmed in an interview that he and Georgina Rodriguez were expecting their first baby together.
When asked by Spanish news outlet El Mundo whether the player was “happy” to have another child on the way, he replied: “Yes, very much.”
Georgina gave birth to baby daughter Alana Martina on November 12, 2017.
Four years, later Cristiano and Georgina announced they were expecting twins.
But tragically, after Georgina gave birth in April 2022, the pair announced that their baby boy had passed away as they paid tribute online.
Ronaldo wrote on social media: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away.
“It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel.
“Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.
“We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support.
“We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.
“Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”
The couple have since named their baby daughter Bella Esmeralda. More

Gary Neville reveals the four clubs he would have played for if he was sold by Man Utd, like Arsenal and Bayern Munich

GARY NEVILLE admitted he would have played for arch-rivals Arsenal if Manchester United decided to sell him.The former defender, 47, spent his entire career at Old Trafford, coming through the academy as part of the Class of ’92 before making 602 first-team appearances.

He won 16 major trophies under Sir Alex Ferguson’s guidance in a career that spanned 19 years and saw him earn 85 England caps.
But speaking to Sky Sports’ Off Script, the pundit revealed there were four teams he willingly could have joined should he have been let go – and three he would never, ever  have signed for.
The Manchester United legend said: “For myself, leaving never once entered my head. My longest contract negotiation was three meetings – they were normally done inside one or two meetings, and they were always long contracts.
“I’d made the decision quite early in my 30s that if Sir Alex had come and told me my time was up, I wouldn’t have played for anyone else. I was fortunate in that sense.
“However, if he’d come to me at say the age of 28, and told me my time was up, of course I would have played for another Premier League club.
“Who would I have played for? You can rule out three: I’d have never have played for [Man] City, Liverpool or Leeds. Not in a million years.

“I don’t feel anything bad towards the players who did that, but me personally, I couldn’t have done it. The rivalry is just too much.
“If you’d said to me, in a perfect world, in my years of playing, which clubs in the Premier League have the tradition, a proper club? Arsenal would be No 1.
“The tradition of Highbury, I felt they did things the right way. Also in the Premier League, I like Aston Villa and Newcastle.
“In Europe I admired Juventus and Bayern Munich. I respected them as football clubs. Bayern were meticulous in their preparation, so internationally, it would be them.”
Neville played a huge role in the rivalry at the turn of the century with Arsenal, along with Roy Keane as a key protagonist.
His first clash with the Gunners came way back in November 1994 with a 0-0 draw at Highbury.
Across the 30 matches, Neville’s United won ten – including the Battle of the Buffet clash in 2004 to end Arsenal’s 49-match unbeaten run – drew eight and lost 12.
Against Bayern Munich, meanwhile, the right-back managed just one win in eight matches.

However, crucially, that one win was the 1999 Champions League final, arguably the greatest night in Manchester United’s history, as subs Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored in injury time to complete a stunning turnaround and seal the Treble.
After hanging up his boots in 2011, Neville went into coaching as Roy Hodgson’s assistant for England before an ill-fated spell at Valencia.
Since then, he has switched to focusing on his media work with Sky and various business ventures with his Class of ’92 team-mates – including joint-ownership of Salford City and two hotels in Manchester. More

Christian Eriksen makes Man Utd transfer U-turn after ‘snubbing club due to promise to Tottenham chief Daniel Levy’

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN has made a Manchester United U-turn after agreeing to join Erik ten Hag’s side on a free transfer. The Daily Mail say the creative midfielder made a promise to Tottenham owner Daniel Levy in 2017 that he would not join a London club out of respect for Spurs.

And Eriksen, now 30, apparently extended his promise to all English clubs when United’s interest came out.
Former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hoping to secure an £80million deal for the playmaker but failed to land his man.
Eriksen handed in a transfer request in 2019 after outlining his desire for a new challenge.
That sparked plenty of interest with both Real and Atletico Madrid joining Juventus in the hunt.
But the Spurs ace eventually joined Inter Milan for £17m in 2020 as his contract began to run down.
After initially struggling, Eriksen found his form under Antonio Conte and helped Inter win their first Serie A title since 2010.

The popular star went into cardiac arrest on the pitch while playing for Denmark in their Euro 2020 opener against Finland last summer.
Eriksen was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator after thankfully making a full recovery.
But the Italian FA said in July that the Dane would need it to be removed in order to play for Inter again.
After his contract was terminated, he joined Brentford as a free agent and has enjoyed a remarkable season for the Bees.
He played 11 games, scoring once and contributing four assists – but left at the end of June when his six-month contract expired.
Eriksen has now agreed to join Man Utd, going back on his promise, but completing an extraordinary comeback to the top of football.
He is set to pen a three-year deal at Old Trafford.
Eriksen is said to have informed United of his desire to join the club, with the midfielder now set for a medical.
The playmaker worked with United boss Ten Hag briefly when he trained with Ajax before making his comeback to football with the Bees earlier this year.
He is now set to follow left-back Tyrell Malacia through the doors at Old Trafford.
Malacia was pictured arriving at Carrington this morning to finalise his initial £13m move from Feyenoord.
But the pair may NOT have Cristiano Ronaldo as a teammate next season.
CR7 has sensationally told United chiefs he wishes to leave the club to play in the Champions League. More

Haas driver Mick’s dad Michael is a seven-time world champion – tied with Lewis Hamilton who also beat his legendary 91-race win record.
Yet the German claimed his old man remains the best after insisting that he understands the constant comparisons with the 53-year-old.
Speaking last year to Bild, he said: “I’m OK with that, all the questions and comparisons with my father do not bother me.
“For me, he is the all-time best in this sport, to which he has given his all. I don’t see why I should disregard that.”

UFC star Khabib’s manager claims YouTuber Jake Paul would ‘beat the s***’ out of Conor McGregor and teammates

KHABIB NURMAGOMEDOV’S manager has claimed Jake Paul would ‘beat the s***’ out of Conor McGregor and all his team-mates. YouTuber Paul has relentlessly pursued a boxing match with McGregor and even claimed he sent the UFC star a $50million (£37m) deal.

It came after he called The Notorious an ‘Irish c***’ and insulted his fiancee Dee Devlin last year.
The viral callout earned the respect of Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz – who himself has a bitter rivalry with McGregor.
Abdelaziz told TMZ Sports: “Jake Paul, I like this kid. You know why? Because he is real.
“When he talked about Conor’s wife, [Paul] said [McGregor] talked about Khabib’s wife. I like Jake Paul.

Harry Maguire: How England’s World Cup hero could’ve been an accountant instead of a Premier League footballer

HE was England’s hero in the 2018 World Cup before securing an £80million move to Manchester United a year later. But Harry Maguire could’ve traded it all in to be an accountant, according to his former teacher.

The burly 6’4″ defender was a revelation at World Cup 2018 for the Three Lions, and has since been an ever-present as Man Utd captain.
But when he was a kid he was a numbers whizz.
Maguire, 29, attended St Mary’s Catholic High School in Chesterfield, where he excelled with his studies.
“He was a remarkable pupil who always came in and worked very hard,” Sue Cain, Deputy Headteacher at the school, told the Derbyshire Times.
“He was never in any trouble and he had such a good attitude. He did everything you asked him to do and he never questioned why. He was a popular lad.”

“He got A* and A grades in his GCSEs,” she revealed.
“I think he would have gone on to study business or maths and probably have been an accountant.”
In the end, the Sheffield-born revelation chose football, even though he excelled at cross-country running, rugby and table tennis as a pupil.

His former PE teacher, Martin McKee said he was destined to become a footballer.
“He could really dominate a game from central midfield,” McKee divulged.
“He had an aura about him. He could dribble around everyone if he wanted to.”
Level-headed Maguire might have left school years ago, but he’s still very much part of their fabric.

He returns regularly, giving talks to the boys about his experiences and presented his former teachers with a signed shirt.
It’s the same school where his 25-year-old brother Laurence, just released by Chesterfield, attended.
Their sister, Daisy, 22, was a pupil there too.
Proving that sport is very much in the Maguire family, their eldest son Joe, 30, used to play for Buxton FC in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
But it’s Harry who’s earning all the plaudits and he’s had to work hard to get where he is today.
As a youngster he looked up to the likes of John Terry and Rio Ferdinand, knowing that he had to work hard on his distribution to be taken seriously in the modern game.

He fulfilled a childhood dream by playing for Sheffield United, where he came through their youth system.
In his first full season, he helped the Blades into the playoffs as they attempted to gain promotion from League One.
A heartbreaking penalty shootout loss in the final to Huddersfield Town in 2012 dampened the spirits slightly.
But Maguire’s contribution was well-received, and he was named both their Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year during a remarkable nine months.

For the next two years, he was crowned Player of the Year as his star continued to grow.
In 2014, Steve Bruce, recognising a decent centre half when he saw one, decided to splash £2.5m on the promising talent.
That’s where Maguire continued the trend of excelling when he was presented with tougher challenges.
In 2016, he made his Premier League debut with Hull City – becoming a regular when Marco Silva took charge.

It was a tumultuous season for The Tigers, who in the end were relegated, but for Maguire, personally, it was another landmark.
Showing his leadership qualities, he captained the East Yorkshire side to victory against Middlesbrough in April 2017 in a 4-2 win.
He also scored his first Premier League goal – a bullet header – something that’s becoming a trademark.
Leicester City secured Maguire’s services in 2017 for £12m, potentially rising to £17m with add-ons.

Maguire instantly became a hero on the pitch at Leicester, his heart and desire earning him the Players’ Player of the Season, as well as Fans’ Player of the Year.
His commitment to the cause – Maguire played every minute of the 2017-18 campaign – was adored by his supporters.
But Maguire took another step up when he joined Man Utd for £80m in 2019.

Off the pitch, Maguire keeps his personal life, well, personal.
He does have the glamorous Wag in tow, the beautiful Fern Hawkins – a physiotherapy graduate – who he married last week.
The pair regularly pose for loved-up selfies on social media, but Maguire is normally one to shun the limelight and glitzy life.

Despite sharing some snaps on social media, Maguire does like to keep his private life personal
After all, we’re talking about a man who once reported for England duty with two carrier bags full of his stuff that trended on Twitter. That picture got him a rollicking from his mum.
“I’ve seen the picture on Twitter with the bags. It was just full of boots and shin pads and dirty stuff which I’ll give the kit man,” he said at the time.
“I’ll try and get some better luggage in future. My mum mentioned it. She sent me a text later on saying ‘what’s with the bags?’”
Whether or not he does go straight to Louis Vuitton and invest in a pricey kit-bag is another story. But it’s hard to imagine that his fame will turn this modest lad into a showbiz wannabe.

Wanda posed next to the motor for an Instagram snap and wrote: “Even if you always search to surpass, you are and you always will be my best gift @mauroicardi.. But I do not want to stop thanking you for this surprise.”
The personalised number plate is also on the couple’s Range Rover Sport, a must-have in the football world.
Retailing at around £60,000, the Range Rover is the cheapest motor in the collection.
And the most expensive, you ask?
That would be their delightfully stylish white Rolls-Royce Ghost with a black bonnet, which can be bought for a cool £250,000.

Icardi has posted images of the beautiful Roller to his Instagram and it’s appeared on Wanda’s, too, with the model posing on the bonnet.
It’s a recurring theme with the couple grinning next to their luxury cars.
That was the case with their gold Hummer H2 which has doors that open upwards, as well as the most thrilling car in their garage.
Icardi’s sleek Lamborghini Huracan Spyder would set him back at least £200,000 and can reach a top speed of up to 202mph.

So what attracted the former Inter Milan striker to the motor? “It was black and blue,” he said.
Four wheels isn’t the only way Icardi and Wanda like to travel.
They regularly post photos to their combined nine million followers of the couple preparing to jump on board their private jet or bobbing along on a yacht.
