It saw him add the missing IBF from his WBC, WBA and WBO belt collection and make him just one of six men to ever win all four titles.
Canelo was so confident of achieving the feat, not only did he have undisputed printed on his gloves, he also had a ready-made jacket.
Alvarez, who has won belts in four divisions, scored two knockdowns with a round to go before the ref waved off the fight.
Plant, 29, beaten for the first time in 22 fights, was transported to a local hospital in Las Vegas for precautionary checks.

But he later broke his silence after defeat and vowed to bounce back better than ever.
Plant posted: “I’ve bent most the world to my will and done it with nothing but passion and skill.
“I’ll be back I showed I belong on the top level and I’ll be champion of the world again.
“I’ve never been scared to go big or go out on my shield. Thank you to all the fans and all my supporters.”

Canelo admitted before the fight he had never felt such animosity towards an opponent, but later paid his respect to Plant.
He said: “He wanted to continue. I told him there is no shame. Of course I came out on top.
“Caleb is a good fighter. He was a difficult opponent with a lot of ability and I do respect him.”
Alvarez is preparing to face Gennady Golovkin in a huge trilogy fight later on this year.
The pair will clash on September 17, with the former sparring partners going from best friends to sworn enemies.

Another quipped: “Vardy was so worried about the United interest that he signed a new deal.”

“Once I heard it was something the Club was looking at, there was only one thing that was going to happen, and I was going to sign it. The decision was easy.
“I’ve been here long enough now that I feel like part of the furniture.
“I think you can see with the way we’re trying to play, the way the Club’s wanting to go, that it’s going to be onwards and upwards.
“Now it’s all about this season and finishing as high as we can.
“My legs are still feeling great so I’ll carry that on helping the Club as much as I can, whether that’s scoring or assisting, that’s what I’m here to do.”
Vardy, who is the Foxes top earner on £140,000 a week, has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield and Championship titles with Leicester.
He was a key figure in the Club’s promotion to the top-flight in 2013/14, finding the net on 16 occasions, and played a vital role in the historic escape from relegation the following season.

REAL MADRID and Brazil midfielder Casemiro booted the ball off soon-to-be Manchester United team-mate Fred’s face.Casemiro will travel to England over the weekend to complete a medical for the £70million transfer worth £350,000-a-week.

Fred was a bit too close for comfortCredit: TWITTER: idextratime

Casemiro’s blistering clearance will probably leave Fred with a sore lipCredit: TWITTER: idextratime

But United fans will be hoping the midfielder doesn’t repeat kicking the ball in team-mate Fred’s face.
Casemiro booted the ball into Fred as Brazil took on Colombia in a World Cup qualifier in November last year.
Fred was a bit too close to Casemiro, 30, as he attempted to hook the ball high into the air.
And it bounced clean off the United midfielders face, leaving him dazed.

Fred was sure to be left with a sore lip.
Brazil went on to win the tight contest 1-0, and went on to secure qualification for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, going unbeaten in the qualifiers.
Highly rated Lyon ace Lucas Paqueta got the only goal of the game against Colombia, but was hooked off with four minutes to go, and was replaced by Liverpool’s Fabinho.
Some joked saying Casemiro’s face-smashing clearance counts as a shot on target.

One said on Twitter: “Casemiro shot on target > > > Fred.”
Another suggested Casemiro is tired of playing with Fred, so he tried to take him out.
But that would mean there’s more of the same to come at Old Trafford.
They said: “Even Casemiro is tired of Fred.”
Five-time Champions League winner Casemiro will be hoping to make an instant impact at United.
The Red Devils are currently sat bottom of the Premier League following back-to-back losses.

Breaking it down, he stated: “We’re going to have to go, OK we’ll go Money Mayweather, we got to go Pernell Whitaker, imma go, Roberto Duran, man you put me in a tight predicament.
“As far as with the heavyweights, if we’re going to go heavyweights, I’m going to be honest, I’ve got to go Larry Holmes.”
Fat Joe then interjected where he stated that he doesn’t believe Holmes is better than Ali or Tyson, to which Mayweather said: “Do you want me to give you the breakdown?

“Larry Holmes beat everybody in his era, when Larry Holmes got beat by Mike Tyson, he got beat by a young hungry champion and he came out of a year’s retirement and got beat by Tyson.
“I’ve got to say Larry Holmes, he had the basic fundamentals, he had the jab and even right now he’s still living a great life because he made smart investments.
    GO WITH THE FLOW
“So he was good from the beginning of his career to the end of his career.”
Detailing his final pick, Mayweather added: “Aaron Pryor, the only reason why Aaron Pryor lost a fight was because of drugs, he lost only one fight because of drugs.”

He holds notable victories against the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Saul Alvarez and Miguel Cotto.

Even though his entry puzzled Fat Joe, the 72-year-old is a three-time former heavyweight world champion.

It didn’t take long for Paul to get wind of Moran’s threat, which he responded to his Instagram story.
He said: “Conor’s taking easy fights. But he’s been sparring in Ireland!”
In a clearly sarcastic tone, Paul added: “He’s been boxing, going against some phenomenal, exciting Irish talent.
“This kid must be really good, because Conor’s a ‘good boxer’ right? And then we looked this kid up!

“Ladies and gentlemen, presenting to you: the big, bad, exciting Irish talent – Dylan Moran, the kid that Conor McGregor is sparring against. Take a look!”
Paul’s story then cut to footage of Moran being dropped three times in his 2019 loss to Dennis Okoth.
The final image was of Moran on the canvas, a snap which included the accompanying caption: “This is who Conor is calling a phenomenal boxer.”
25-year-old Paul has been campaigning relentlessly for a bout with the Dubliner since Conor’s stunning KO of Nate Robinson in 2020, going as far as to direct message the former two-division UFC champion on Instagram.

In an expletive-laden Instagram video, Paul said to Mystic Mac in early 2021: “What the f** is up you Irish c**t? Good morning Conor McGregor.
“I know you’re probably beating up old dudes in a bar right now or maybe you’re j**ing off as you’re sick of f***ing your wife, I mean, she’s a four [out of ten], Conor you could do a lot better, but happy Monday!
“My team sent you a $50 million offer this morning, $50 million cash, proof of funds, the biggest fight offer you’ve ever been offered.
“But you’re scared to fight me Conor. You duck me as you’re scared to fight a YouTuber.

“You’re 0-1 as a boxer, I’m 2-0 as a boxer. I just came off the eighth biggest pay-per-view event in history.
“But you want to fight Dustin Poirier, who has less followers on Instagram than my f***ing dog, that’s a fact.
    “And Dana White, you’re a f***ing p***y, you ugly f***ing bald bitch.
“You said there’s zero per cent chance of this fight happening but there’s zero percent of you getting some p****.
“Conor, you’re scared, Dana, you’re scared. Sign the f***ng contract you idiots. Irish b***h, f**k these guys.”
Since sending his expletive-laden rant, Paul has moved to 5-0 as a professional.
McGregor meanwhile has been out of action after suffering a sickening leg break in his battle with Poirier.
He has been in training ahead of a UFC return, with a trilogy against Nate Diaz teased by coach John Kavanagh.
