Mike Tyson was desperate to fight Michael Jordan at dinner party, revealed boxing star’s former manager

MIKE TYSON once threatened to beat up Michael Jordan over their romantic history with the same woman, the boxer’s former manager has claimed. The former Baddest Man on the Planet, 56,  made his boxing comeback against Roy Jones Jr in 2020.
Mike Tyson (right) was arguably at his peak when sidling up to Michael Jordan (left)
But before that comeback, Rory Holloway has revealed what happened when Tyson and he attended a birthday dinner for Chicago Bears star Richard Dent in 1988.
Plenty of famous faces were at the December bash, including Jordan, boxing promoter Don King and Bears coach Mike Ditka.
Tyson was in his pomp with an undefeated record and unified title to his name –  it was a point in his life when he was also known for decadent and lavish partying.
But it was Jordan’s history with Robin Givens, Tyson’s ex-wife who the NBA legend had previously dated, that brought about the tension.
Holloway wrote in his book chronicling the boxer’s career, via BoxingScene: “Mike Tyson’s sitting there with his drink of choice, a Long Island Tea, and when he drinks his real feelings come out.
“I’m telling the server to water his drinks down because I see where this is going.
Jordan, it’s obvious he just wants to get up and run. He wants no part of this.
“Mike stares across the table at Michael Jordan. He says, ‘Hey man, you think I’m stupid? I know you f***** with my b****’.
“Jordan looks like he just seen a ghost. ‘I know you messed with her,’ Mike says, ‘You can tell me’.
“Jordan, it’s obvious he just wants to get up and run. He wants no part of this. Mike turns to Ditka. ‘Man, you think somebody scared of you, all that racist s*** you been talking?’.
“He says to Dent, ‘Y’all scared of this damn white man, Richard? He ain’t nobody. You gonna let him talk that way?’.

“It was a circus, for real, that night. Don King trying to change the subject. Me and John trying to hold Mike down.
“Mike telling everyone he’s going to bust Jordan’s ass. Jordan’s dressed sharp as always and he can’t get out of there fast enough.”
Differing reports of the night have been bandied around over the years and Jordan, recently subject to the hit ESPN series focusing on his departure from Chicago, is said to have declined to ever comment on his run-in with the boxing champ.
Footage recently emerged of Iron Mike let his temper boil over after coming face to face with his former promoter Don King.
Tyson accused the promoter of stealing millions of dollars he had earned from boxing and decided to sue him for $100million.
The case was settled for $14m but there was no love lost between the two.

YouTuber Jake Paul messaged UFC star Conor McGregor on Instagram urging him to ‘take the fight pussy’ after $50m offer

JAKE PAUL continued his relentless pursuit of a boxing match with Conor McGregor by direct messaging the UFC superstar on Instagram. The YouTuber revealed his eagerness to take on McGregor a few days after scoring a sensational second-round KO victory over Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr last year.
Jake Paul slid into Conor McGregor’s direct messages on Instagram
Jake Paul launched a foul-mouthed tirade at Conor McGregor earlier this week
And in summer 2021, the 25-year-old doubled down on his desire to box McGregor in a foul-mouthed tirade on Instagram, in which he claimed his team have sent the UFC’s poster boy a whopping £37million ($50million) offer.
McGregor refrained from responding to the x-rated call-out, in which Paul made derogatory comments about the Irishman’s fiancee, Dee Devlin.
And in another attempt to get the former two-division UFC champion’s attention Paul – whose older brother Logan stepped in the ring with Floyd Mayweather – sent a short and sweet direct message to The Notorious on Instagram.
Paul’s message read: “Take the fight pussy.”
    Most read in Boxing
After sharing his DM to McGregor, Paul launched a blistering rant at UFC president Dana White, who revealed he was willing to let women’s bantamweight and featherweight queen Amanda Nunes fight the former Disney star.
He said: “Alright, Dana, let me try to understand your logic here: So you’re saying you don’t want me to fight Conor McGregor because he’s one of the greatest fighters in the world and I’m just like a YouTuber of whatever.
“But then, in a statement today, you say: ‘Oh, I’m thinking about just having Amanda Nunes knock him out.’ But she’s also one of the greatest.
“Dana, you seem to have this thing where you sort of hate on videogamers or YouTubers and influencers and us boxing and all this stuff.
“But then, you spend half your time hanging out with the Nelk Boys. And I know why. It’s because they have hella influence over the male audience and you know that’s gonna promote the UFC.
“And right now, baby, there’s nobody in this f***ing world who is promoting the UFC as much as me.
Tens of millions of views, number one search result on Google when you type in Conor McGregor, when you type in UFC, when you type in Dana White. So you’re not making sense here.
“Dana, I know the world doesn’t really know this because the UFC is this huge company. But we all know it’s not doing that well.
Jake Paul knocked out Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s exhibition bout with Roy Jones JrCredit: AP:Associated Press
“Anyone who is involved in WME and all the public stocks and everything that went south there, we know the company is not doing well. And I’m the biggest money fight you can do unless Khabib comes out of retirement.
“So if you want the UFC to make the most amount of money, you better start to wake the f**k up and realise that Jake Paul vs Conor McGregor is going to happen at some point.”
Paul’s rant at White came shortly after he ambushed McGregor’s team-mate Dillon Danis and pelted him with water balloons.
Paul may very well be a combat sports novice, but he’s well and truly at the centre of the boxing and MMA worlds at this moment in time.

Ex-Arsenal flop looks completely different 20 years after debut… but still managed to win Premier League and FA Cup

ARSENE WENGER brought some incredible players to Arsenal in his early years as Gunners boss.Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry, Freddie Ljungberg, Robert Pires… the list goes on and on.
A former Arsenal defender was unveiled as Maldives Under-19s boss in 2020Credit: Twitter

But even in his title-winning days not all of his signings were hits.
Igors Stepanovs arrived at Highbury from Latvian side Skonto Riga in September 2000.
The burly defender hardly arrived as a household name.
And he wouldn’t exactly leave as one either.

Stepanovs was a commanding figure at 6ft 4in tall, but he was by no means a pillar of authority.
The Latvian made 13 appearances in his debut season, and that was as good as it would get.
Just six in the Premier League followed in the 2001-02 campaign, while he was called on only twice in 2002-03.
He was then loaned out to Belgian side Beveren for the 2003-04 season, missing out on the ‘Invincibles’ campaign.

Stepanovs departed permanently for Grasshoppers in Switzerland in 2004, but not before picking up two FA Cup winners’ medals and a Premier League title across his 31 appearances for Arsenal.
A nomadic career was to follow, as he turned out for FK Jurmala, Esbjerg, FC Shinnik Yaroslavl and RFS/Olimps.
He then rounded off his legacy by returning to Jurmala in 2012 before retiring.
Stepanovs retired from international duty with 100 caps after a national team career that spanned from 1995 to 2011.
He swiftly moved into coaching, working with Latvia’s Under-17s between 2012 and 2018.
A very short stint as manager of second-tier Latvian side Auda Kekava followed, before a rather more exciting opportunity came up.
In February 2020 he swapped his snow boots for sunglasses as he left Latvia to take charge of the Maldives’ Under-19 side.
In his book, It’s Only Ray Parlour’s Autobiography, the former Gunners midfielder recounted winding up Martin Keown by pretending Stepanovs was better than him.
He wrote: “Martin Keown was always worried about people coming in to steal his position. If we had a centre-half on trial, Martin would say he was useless.
We all knew Igors was nowhere near the standards set by Tony Adams, Martin and BouldyRay Parlour
“This big guy from Latvia, Igors Stepanovs, turned up. He was a unit, but seriously, he was not up to standard.
“A few of us were on the bench watching as he played in this trial game. Stepanovs is out there and every single pass he made, the boys started applauding, just because we knew Martin would be getting a bit steamed up by it.
“Dennis Bergkamp was sitting behind Arsene and kept doling out these compliments about this defender. ‘Great header! Unbelievable tackle!’

“Igors kicked this one ball 20 yards away from where it was meant to go but it still went to one of our players so we all stood up clapping.
“Martin’s muttering: ‘He’s not that good.’ He started to point out where he missed a tackle or a header.
“That night we went for dinner and laughed about it as we were only trying to wind Martin up.
“We all knew Igors was nowhere near the standards set by Tony Adams, Martin and Bouldy. But Martin is such an easy target because he bites.”

But Tarver – who famously ended the reign of Roy Jones Jr – was not impressed by the performance.
And he wants to fight the 25-year-old internet sensation and stop the new age of outsiders venturing into the ring.
Tarver, 53, wrote on Instagram back in 2020: “I really want to kick @jakepaul ass for what he did to @naterobinson last night and rid boxing of these clowns once and for all.
“He fought a complete novice so fighting me shouldn’t be a problem… @miketyson make this fight.”

Tarver last fought in 2015 with a split-decision defeat against Steve Cunningham.
He has been training Evander Holyfield, 59, helping the ex-heavyweight champion keep up his fitness.
It inspired Tarver to think about lacing up the gloves again, with Jones’ trainer revealing the pair have unfinished business.
Paul, on the other hand, is focussing on bringing MMA fighters over to boxing as he called out UFC star Conor McGregor and Dillon Danis.

Rivaldo, Hazard and Dybala in Tottenham’s best XI of fluffed transfers with Spurs also missing out on Luis Diaz

TOTTENHAM missed out on another top transfer target when Luis Diaz moved to Liverpool instead of North London. The Lilywhites pushed hard to sign the 25-year-old, but came up short as he chose Jurgen Klopp’s Reds instead.
The best players Tottenham narrowly missed out on signing

When it comes to missing out on top talent, Spurs fans have already seen it all.
In fact, you could fill an entire XI of apparent dead-certs that the North Londoners have somehow missed out on recent years.
So that’s exactly what we at SunSport have done.
Tottenham have been very fortunate in recent years when it comes to goalkeepers – with Hugo Lloris having been excellent between the sticks for a decade now.

But that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been a mistake in the meantime.
Tottenham signed young Spaniard Pau Lopez on loan in the summer of 2016, with an option to make the deal permanent for just £6m.
They passed up their option because they thought they could get the promising stopper cheaper, instead bidding just £1.7m.
Espanyol rejected the offer and he instead joined Real Betis, who then went on to sell him to Roma for around £20m in 2019.

Spurs have also missed out on some top defenders over the years.
Sevilla star Jules Kounde rejected Spurs in 2021 before moving to Barcelona in the summer.
While the Lilywhites wanted Ruben Dias in 2020, but wouldn’t sanction a £50m fee for the man who has gone on to star for Manchester City.
Going back a little further for the third member of our back three, let’s remind ourselves of the time Spurs wouldn’t pay £13m for Bolton’s Gary Cahill on Deadline Day in August 2011.

He would join Chelsea instead the following January, going on to win every single club trophy he entered with the Blues at least once during his seven years at Stamford Bridge – scoring against Spurs a few times in the process.
Adama Traore is our right wing-back, and another fresh wound for fans who had spent most of January believing he would join.
As it turned out the Spaniard didn’t fancy playing as a wing-back for Antonio Conte – instead favouring life back at Barcelona – fair enough.
On the left side we’re bending the formation rules a little to shoehorn Eden Hazard into the team.
In the summer of 2012, the Belgian flirted with just about every club in Europe as it became apparent he would leave Lille.

Adama Traore is set to head to Barcelona despite Tottenham appearing close to a dealCredit: PA
He famously met with Harry Redknapp at a hotel, telling the former Spurs boss that he’d come to White Hart Lane if his side qualified for the Champions League.
As it happened Tottenham did in fact come fourth, but lost their CL spot – and Hazard – when Chelsea won the competition themselves.
Joao Moutinho came within a whisker of replacing Luka Modric during the summer Deadline Day of 2012, but late haggling cost Spurs dear.
They eventually agreed a £24m fee for the Portuguese ace, only for paperwork to not go through in time.
Tottenham thought they had a clear run at signing Jack Grealish in 2019, when Aston Villa were experiencing financial difficulties.
But they appeared to be taking the mickey out of the of the Midlanders with their opening bid – reportedly trying their luck by offering £3million and Josh Onomah.

Jack Grealish joined Man City for £100m last summer… Spurs offered £3m just two years earlierCredit: Getty
Spurs wouldn’t stump up the £30m that Villa wanted and that was that – with the England man since going from strength to strength and joining Manchester City for £100m in 2021.
Another gut-wrencher for Spurs fans came in the summer of 2019, when they thought their club had agreed a deal worth around £65m for Juventus superstar Paulo Dybala.
The move fell through after no agreement could be found regarding the player’s image rights, however, and he remained in Turin.
An honorary mention has to go to Willian’s disastrous 2013 U-turn, with the Brazilian completing a medical at Hotspur Way before signing for Chelsea instead.
But in our second wide forward position, we have gone for Rivaldo.
As Barcelona underwent a clear-out in 2002, Daniel Levy flew to Spain to try and convince the Brazilian icon to join Spurs.
Paulo Dybala’s image rights were worth too much for SpursCredit: Getty
Daniel Levy wanted to sign Rivaldo from BarcelonaCredit: AP:Associated Press
In the end the forward snubbed Levy because he couldn’t offer European football.
Nevertheless, he said after he had moved to AC Milan: “I was very excited about the possibility of playing for Spurs and in England. I would like to thank the club for their efforts in trying to sign me.”
    At least he was polite.
Rounding off our XI is none other than Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gabon star spent much of the last decade scoring rather a lot of goals for the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Saint-Etienne and Arsenal.
I came here, I went to the stadium, White Hart Lane, and the day after they just never called backPierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Although many of those goals could have instead been for Spurs… if they had returned his calls.
Asked by Sky Sports if he would rather play for Tottenham or call it a day, he said: “You don’t need to ask the question, you know it already. I would retire.
“Even more because, I don’t if you know, a few years ago I was close to signing for Tottenham and at the end I don’t know what they did.
“I retire for sure. I was at Saint-Etienne or at the beginning of Dortmund.
“I came here, I went to the stadium, White Hart Lane, and the day after they just never called back. So I was like ‘ah okay, no worries’.”

Man Utd target Benjamin Sesko, 19, is the ‘next Haaland’, recently signed for RB Leipzig and scored Van Basten-like goal

TEENAGE striker Benjamin Sesko was one of the hottest properties in the summer transfer window. But it was RB Leipzig who managed to steal the towering centre-forward’s signature ahead of Premier League giants Man Utd and Chelsea in a £20million deal.
Benjamin Sesko celebrates scoring against Liverpool in a preseason friendlyCredit: Getty
A goalscorer of some repute, the 19-year-old has been likened to Norwegian hotshot Erling Haaland.
However, it was his goal on international duty with Slovenia that has fans screaming it was just like watching Marco Van Basten.
The 6ft5in star’s sumptuous volley against Sweden brought back memories of the Dutch legend’s famous strike against the Soviet Union in Euro ’88.
Currently lighting up the Austrian Bundesliga, Sesko has scored five goals already this term.
And last season, when he exploded on the scene, Salzburg placed a £300million price tag on his head. In the next few years that transfer fee might become a reality.
    Liverpool know who he is
Football fans might have already caught a glimpse of Sesko’s talents already.
Back in July, all eyes were on Darwin Nunez as Salzburg entertained Liverpool in a preseason friendly.

But it was Sesko who stole the show – scoring the winner and causing Liverpool’s backline all sorts of bother with his physicality and pace.
He began his career at his hometown club Radeče, and then played for Rudar Trbovlje, before he was back at Radeče.
In 2016, he moved to Krško and played for their 15s – scoring 59 goals in 23 matches.
Domzale came knocking on his door, where he stayed for one season before he was signed on a three-year professional deal by Salzburg in 2019.

It didn’t take long for the 16-year-old to settle into his new surroundings.
He impressed at their farm team, FC Liefering in the Austrian second tier.
Across two seasons, he managed 22 goals in 44 games – convincing Salzburg that he was ready for their first team last summer.
And he was given the role of impact sub – scoring 11 goals in just 12 starts (37 appearances in all competitions) as Salzburg won their ninth consecutive league title.
Sesko has already started this season off with a bang – netting five times in 13 games.

    The new Haaland
Because of his stature, comparisons with a certain Norway striker are inevitable.
Sesko has been likened to Man City’s £51million signing, Erling Haaland, which has flattered the youngster.
“Such comparisons motivate me and give me energy. They do not represent pressure. I will listen and learn so I can be even better than he is,” he told Slovenian journalists.
“My team-mates at the club tell me that Haaland and I are very similar, especially in terms of speed. Most of them even tell me that I’m better than him!”
On the international scene, Sesko is Slovenia’s youngest ever goalscorer at the age of 18 years, four months and eight days back in October when he found the net against Malta.
He has four international goals to his name already, including the winner against Haaland’s Norway when the two came face-to-face

    Newcastle are sniffing around
Although Man Utd and Chelsea appeared to be going head-to-head for Sesko in the summer, Saudi-backed Newcastle were also keeping tabs on the boy wonder.
Amusingly, Toon supporters were whipped into a frenzy when his agent Elvis Basanovic shared snaps of a trip to Tyneside on Instagram, including photos of Newcastle Airport and the Quayside.
They were certain he was there to discuss a deal with Eddie Howe’s side, which was not denied. But Basanovic then deleted the evidence of his jaunt on social media.
Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag is also said to be a huge fan.
After hearing of the Red Devil’s interest, Salzburg’s Twitter page hilariously tweeted that a deal could be struck if the Red Devils cough up £300million and give them Bruno Fernandes in a swap deal.
Needless to say, his agent has spoken up about those Haaland comparisons and revealed a modest, hard-working pro.
He told Zurnal 24: “Many compare him to Haaland, but I think they are different types of players.

“They are similar in physical construction and speed, but they are different players. Benjamin is more of a team player.
“He is maybe better technically with his skills, but Haaland is a bit more wild with his energy, in a positive sense. He remains a humble, hard-working boy.”
German football awaits for the youngster next season. Like Haaland, he will look to take the Bundesliga by storm following the same career trajectory. More

Mike Tyson says he’d ‘kick Floyd Mayweather’s a**e’ if the boxing legends ever came to blows

MIKE TYSON confidently claimed he would kick Floyd Mayweather’s “a**” in a street fight. But the former heavyweight world champion, 56, admitted it would be a different outcome if they were the same size in the ring.
Mike Tyson has taken another cheeky swipe at the American superstar
Tyson took the cheeky dig at the American superstar in 2020 as he insisted it would not even be a contest if they ever came to blows.
When asked about a street fight with Mayweather during an interview with GQ, Iron Mike said: “[I would] kick Floyd’s a**, there wouldn’t even be no match.
“[If] I was his size in the ring, he would outpoint me.”
Tyson also insisted Mayweather is nowhere near the level of Muhammad Ali.
He said: “Listen, if he was anywhere near that realm of great as Muhammed Ali, he’d be able to take his kids to school by himself.
