Real Madrid ‘open to selling’ Odegaard for £34m with Arsenal poised for transfer swoop after Willock’s exit to Newcastle

REAL MADRID are ‘eager’ to sell Martin Odegaard and will let him go for £34million, according to reports. And Arsenal are reportedly poised to swoop after they sold Joe Willock to Newcastle for £25m.

Carlo Ancelotti is set to leave the 22-year-old out Real’s squad for their LaLiga opener against Alaves on Saturday.
His No 21 shirt was also given to Brazilian sensation Rodrygo.
And the club will now welcome any formal bid and will accept any of £34m and above, according to Goal.
Arsenal initially signed the Norwegian on loan from Real Madrid in January.
He subsequently impressed boss Mikel Arteta, making 20 appearances and scoring key goals against Olympiacos and Tottenham.
Odegaard scored two goals and provided two assists during his time at the Emirates.

BETTING SPECIAL – GET MAN CITY AT 7/1 OR TOTTENHAM AT 33/1
Following the 22-year-old’s Los Blancos return, Arteta was eager to bring him back for this season.
But the North London side were dealt a huge blow when it looked like Madrid were going to keep hold of him as cover for the injured Toni Kroos.
However their stance appears to have shifted despite the German’s groin injury.
Odegaard has two years left on his Real deal which explains the hefty fee for someone who barely plays for the first team.
But Arsenal have more cash available after Willock, 21, was sold to Newcastle for £25m.
The midfielder agreed a six-year deal after enjoying an excellent spell on loan last at St James’ Park in the second-half of last season – scoring eight goals in 14 Premier League appearances.
Speaking to Newcastle’s website, Willock said: “I’m buzzing to be here.
“I loved my time here last season and I’m really happy to be back and to be a Newcastle United player.

“Leaving Arsenal is obviously a big step – and I’d like to thank everyone involved with the club for all their support over the years.
“But this is the right move to the right club at the right time for me.
“I only got one chance to play in front of a smaller number of Newcastle fans as a home player last season, so I can’t wait to step out in front of a packed St James’ Park and experience that atmosphere.
    “Come on, you Maggies!”

The Red Devils are signing the France international centre-back with the deal worth an initial £34m.
The star was spotted arriving at United’s training ground for the first time on Tuesday after he enjoyed a post-Euro 2020 break to undergo his medical.

Man Utd ‘in late Luka Jovic transfer discussions’ as Real Madrid set £35m price tag for flop striker this summer

MANCHESTER UNITED are plotting a late transfer swoop for Luka Jovic, according to shock reports. The Serbian striker, 23, burst on to the scene at Eintracht Frankfurt before joining Real Madrid for £52million in 2019.

But he has flopped since his Bernabeu switch, scoring just two goals in 32 appearances before being shipped back to his former side on loan.
AS reported earlier in the summer Real Madrid would demand £35m for the forward and are willing to take a significant loss.
And now according to Tribal Football, United are considering making a move to sign Jovic.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of the centre-forward.
The Old Trafford club asked about Jovic 18 months ago when they brought in Odion Ighalo and have monitored him since, the report adds.
Marcus Rashford will be out until at least October after surgery on his problematic shoulder.
That leaves 34-year-old Edinson Cavani as the only recognised senior striker although Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood can play through the middle.

United have already spent more than £100m to bring in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer – and it was thought their summer business was done after cooling their interest in Kieran Trippier.
However, Real Madrid would be keen to sell Jovic to help fund a mega transfer for Kylian Mbappe.
Los Blancos believe they can secure a deal with Paris Saint-Germain because the French side cannot afford to have Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi at the same time.

Kylian Mbappe transfer to Real Madrid ‘closer than ever’ as PSG ‘can’t afford three superstars including Lionel Messi’

KYLIAN MBAPPE’S transfer to Real Madrid is ‘closer than ever’, according to reports.Paris Saint-Germain are on course to hand Lionel Messi a mammoth contract after his emotional Barcelona exit.
Kylian Mbappe could make a dramatic transfer to Real Madrid this summerCredit: Getty
And while that had fans dreaming of one of the greatest attacks ever alongside Neymar, they may not be so lucky.
According to AS in Spain, there is no way the French giants can afford all three superstars at the same time.
The report adds PSG need to make at least £152million in player sales this summer to balance the books for Financial Fair Play, even before Messi signs.
Messi will become the top earner on £650,000 per week, Neymar second on £490,000 and Mbappe third with his £310,000-per-week wages.
That totals almost £1.5m per week on just three players – plus a further six are on at least £200,000.
With Neymar signing a new contract in May and Messi only just arriving, Mbappe is the obvious choice to depart – especially with the Frenchman out of contract next summer.
Real Madrid are yet to contact PSG regarding a transfer – because Florentino Perez does not want to antagonise the Qatari board at the Parc des Princes before they can secure the deal.
The Spanish side will wait until Messi’s arrival is confirmed in the coming days.

Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti knows it will not take a record-breaking contract offer to convince Mbappe to come, instead confident the lure of becoming the latest Galactico will be enough of an incentive.
Although the Bernabeu giants are tight financially, they believe they could get a deal done, the report adds.
David Alaba has essentially taken on the wages freed up by Sergio Ramos’ departure and they still have a number of sellable assets in the squad including Martin Odegaard and Luka Jovic.

Arsenal ‘determined to seal Martin Odegaard transfer this month with Real Madrid ready to sell on permanent deal’

ARSENAL remain determined to sign Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid, according to reports. The 22-year-old impressed on loan with the Gunners last season and Mikel Arteta was hoping to come to a similar arrangement this term.

Real Madrid are understood to be willing to sell but only on a permanent dealCredit: Getty
Arsenal were initially told playmaker Odegaard would be staying put.
But Odegaard is said to be concerned about how many minutes he will get under new boss Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu.
And Los Blancos are now believed to be willing to let the Norwegian leave… however only on a permanent deal.
Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are said to be Ancelotti’s preferred midfield options.
Real have set their Odegaard asking price at £42.5million.
And, according to football.london, Arsenal reckon a deal is there to be done.
Madrid believe the midfielder does have a future at the club, but won’t rule out sanctioning a sale if the player asks to leave and a their valuation is hit.
The LaLiga giants are hopeful Odegaard decides to stay at Real, despite reports suggesting the player is unsettled.
An ongoing debate inside Real is whether Odegaard is ready to step up and stamp down a first team place, succeeding an ageing Modric.
Or whether the player isn’t up for the fight and is looking for a way out.
Real are preparing for massive changes at the club, in particular in the midfield.
Modric has just a year left on his current deal, and midfield partner Kroos is 31.
Midfield enforcer Casemiro is also almost 30, so Real are turning to 23-year-old Federico Valverde and possibly Odegaard to carry the torch when the time comes.
Although Arsenal are keen on Odegaard, Real are not willing to let the player leave on loan.

Odegaard has also failed to impress during Real’s pre-season fixtures, garnering criticism from the Spanish press for his performance in the loss to Scottish champions Rangers.
AS’ Tomas Roncero blasted: “Odegaard is the eternal promise. Surrounded by homegrown players, he should have said ‘here I am’.
“What is there to do? Like at Arsenal, do they all play for him? Martin, you are in Madrid. Wake up, macho.”

Man Utd to seal £34m Raphael Varane transfer but stats suggest he’s no better than Red Devils outcast Eric Bailly

MANCHESTER UNITED are on the verge of completing the £34million signing of Real Madrid star Raphael Varane. The signing is being hailed as a huge coup but stats suggest he is no better than outcast Eric Bailly in some departments.
How Raphael Varane compares to Manchester United’s defenders
Varane is waiting to complete his medical at Old Trafford and his arrival has sparked huge excitement in the United ranks.
The France defender is being touted as the signing to spark a prolonged title bid next season.
But his stats perhaps do not tell the full story with United outcast Bailly ranking ahead of him in certain attributes.
Bailly has made 1.30 interceptions per 90 minutes compared to 1.18 by Varane in all competitions since August 2019.
The Ivory Coast defender won 2.34 aerial balls per match compared to 2.33 by Varane.
Bailly also made more recoveries with 6.38 per 90 minutes as opposed to an average of 5.03 by by the France defender.
Last season Bailly only made 21 appearances for the Red Devils and his future at the club is uncertain.

The 27-year-old signed a new contract earlier this year but wants clarification about his role at the club after the announcement of Varane’s deal.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Of course, I’m very happy that we’ve managed to get a deal with Real Madrid – he’s a proven winner and a player we have followed for many years.
“I know Sir Alex came close to signing him so this time we’ve got him at the other end of his career.”
Varane’s arrival follows on from the signing of long-term target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £73m.

Man Utd ‘AGREE Raphael Varane deal in principle’ with just transfer fee left to thrash out with Real Madrid

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly agreed a deal in principle to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane. The 28-year-old centre-back has been negotiating a deal with the Premier League giants in what would be one of the biggest signings of the summer.
Man Utd are now speaking ‘directly’ to Real Madrid regarding a transfer for Raphael VaraneCredit: Getty
According to Telefoot, all that is left is for Real and United to agree a transfer fee for the French defender.
Man Utd are said to be offering a fee in the region of £43million but Madrid are holding out for a sum in excess of £50m.
Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano had earlier offered an update and claims the two clubs have been in talks for the past week.
He tweeted: “Manchester United are in direct contact with Real Madrid for Raphaël Varane since one week. Varane wants a Premier League experience but he’ll be respectful. He’s not breaking his relationship with Real. It’s up to the two clubs to reach an agreement. Talks on.”
Varane’s contract in the Spanish capital has now entered the final 12 months and he could potentially walk away for nothing next year.
This means Madrid will have to sell him now if they expect to receive a sizeable transfer fee for the former Lens ace.
Varane signed for Los Blancos back in 2011 and has played 360 times for the club.
In a glittering period at Madrid, the defender has won three LaLiga titles, the Copa del Rey and four Champions Leagues.
During that time he has also won the 2018 World Cup with France where he was named in the team of the tournament.
United are hopeful they will secure Varane’s services within the next 12 days.
It is believed they will make an offer to sign the France international this week, with personal terms not believed to be an issue. Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the ex-Lens ace, but the player’s preference is to join United.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer laughed off talk of Varane’s imminent arrival at Carrington after the 2-1 friendly win against Derby on Sunday.
Asked for his view on the potential deal, Solskjaer could not conceal a smile.
Laughing, he said: “Varane? I only speak about players when we sign them.”
