Now, six years on, Wolves are determined to finally get their man and believe he is the high-profile, top class boss they need to ease their relegation worries and help them climb the table.
Lopetegui was axed by Sevilla not long after he had completed his post-match interviews following Sevilla’s 4-1 Champions League defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
By then Lopetegui had already said an emotional farewell to his players, who he led to Europa League success in 2020 as well as three top four finishes in La Liga in three years during his 170 games in charge.

Hazard is now desperately needing to revive his career after struggling with injuries since his big money switch, missing over 70 games through injury.
His stop-start spell at Real has stopped him from producing the magic Chelsea fans were used to seeing week in and week out.
Hazard has managed to score just seven goals and provide ten assists, while picking up a reported £416,000-a-week.
He has played just 98 minutes of domestic action so far, but he has scored once and provided one assist in his one Champions League outing.

Hazard remains down the pecking order, with Ancelotti preferring the likes of Vinicius Junior, Karim Benzema, Federico Valverde and Rodrygo to the ex-Lille ace.
The attacker recently revealed his frustration while on international duty with Belgium at his lack of match action this term at the LaLiga club.

But when his boss was asked about his comments ahead of today’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk, the Italian hit back.
He said: “Eden hasn’t had to speak to me because he knows the situation, that there’s a lot of competition. I think his situation is quite clear.”

Hazard had said last month: “When I play, I give it my all.
“It’s a delicate situation at Real Madrid. I feel like playing more, but I can’t do more.

The attacking midfielder is proving why he used to be considered as one of the hottest young prospects when he was a teenager before he signed for Real at the age of 17.
However, the Norway international struggled to break into the first team and was sent out on various loan stints to Heerenveen, Vitesse, Real Sociedad and of course Arsenal where he is now captain.
Klopp – whose side face him this weekend – admitted that he tried to sign Odegaard at Borussia Dortmund when he was in charge before the 23-year-old opted for Real instead.
The German tactician, whose team currently lacks flare in midfield, insists Odegaard shouldn’t regret turning him down as the challenges he faced turned him into the player he is today.

Klopp told TV2: “I really like him. It’s easy these days. It was a bit more difficult at the start of his career when he was at Real Madrid. Then it looked like it might not go his way.
“I was really disappointed by that, because we wanted him in Dortmund when he was very young.
“We had a long conversation when he was still a boy, together with his father.
“In the end he decided on Madrid, and that’s fine, but that’s why I’ve always followed him.

“You can only imagine how many talents, huge talents, crazy talents, I have seen over the course of quite a while in this industry.
“At the time, Martin was 15 years old and already playing in Norway. The whole world went berserk.
“Until he was 15, he probably experienced no hardship. After that, a lot of things went against him.
“It makes him the person he is now, the man he is now, and the player he is now.
“I’m really happy that he has now become the player we all expected him to become. In fact, even better than that, if you will. He plays a massive role in an incredibly strong Arsenal team.” More

‘Our sport is sick’ – Real Madrid president Perez promotes European Super League AGAIN despite fierce backlash

REAL MADRID president Florentino Perez claimed football is “sick” as he continued to promote the controversial European Super League project.Perez was the chairman of the outrageous ESL initiative, which would have seen Real, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham breaking free and forming a league of their own.

However, plans were scrapped after the furious reaction by fans, players, legends and pundits in 2021 when all clubs but Los Blancos, Barca and Juve pulled out.
The Spanish business man insists on the unpopular project as he claims change is still needed in the sport.
Perez said while speaking at the club’s AGM: “To fix a problem, you have to first recognise that you have a problem. Our sport is sick. It is losing its leadership as a global sport.
“We mustn’t be confused by the impact of Real Madrid’s European Cup run when we were involved in seven games of the highest intensity and interest.

“That was the result of the draw, and of the quality and greatness of our team. It was a spectacle that helped bring excitement back to the viewers.
“That’s why we believe European competitions must change, to offer fans top-level games year-round between the strongest teams, with the best players competing.”
Perez believes the ESL would follow tennis’ example as he argues some of the world’s best players collide much more often than Real do against some of the greatest clubs.
The likes of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have indeed locked horns countless of times but tennis and football are quite different types of sport.

Perez added: “In tennis, Nadal and Federer have played 40 times in 15 years. Nadal and Djokovic have played 59 matches in 16 years.
“In football, we’ve only played Liverpool nine times in 67 years. We’ve played Chelsea four times in the history of the European Cup. What sense does it make to deprive fans of all these games?”
Perez continued: “We were top in all sports, and now we’ve fallen to 13th. We’ve been overtaken by 12 clubs from American sports.
“They must be doing something very well in the United States and very badly in Europe. Football is losing the global entertainment battle against other sports and other platforms.

“We need a professional, modern, transparent management, not based on old structures designed in the last century.
“Recently the chairman of the European Clubs’ Association [Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi] said – talking about the Super League – that Real Madrid are afraid of the competition.
“Maybe the president of the ECA has to be reminded who Real Madrid are. Competition is in our DNA.” More

Troy Deeney: Bellingham should snub Liverpool to be a Real Madrid superstar… he’ll be England captain by next World Cup

FINALLY, Birmingham has a role model to look up to in Jude Bellingham. As someone who was born and bred there, I can say the city as a whole hasn’t had a great deal to celebrate.

We are the working class. We are always written off. We are never spoken about in the same way as London or Manchester.
So, when you have a local lad like Jude, who has come through the system, done everything the right way and then gone on to do what he has done, scoring in the Champions League and starring for England at 19, it is special.
He really is the pride of the city.
It is what the local kids will aspire to be like, even my 13-year-old son.

If he was to be around Jude for more than three minutes, he would probably pass out.
It is just a testament to the whole family, including his 17- year-old brother Jobe who I play with currently at the Blues.
Really solid people and great individuals.
His mum and dad have managed to create two young, not only great footballers for club and country in the Under-18s and senior team, but wonderful human beings as well.

When Jude’s No 22 was retired after he left Birmingham for Borussia Dortmund, the club was a laughing stock, but now look.
Everyone is going: “This guy is unbelievable.”
I already think he is a superstar. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the face of the FIFA game next year and I think he will be England captain in three to four years’ time.
And when he is at the World Cup in Qatar, and all the eyes are on him, he is only going to play better.

The deeper the water, the better he swims.
We will all be going: “Oh my God, look at this talent.”
It could be similar to how the likes of Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen burst on to the global stage with England.
This has always been in the pipeline for Jude, and this is what he has been working towards for years.
You don’t just get there by mistake or luck.
So, once it becomes reality, you aren’t fazed by anything. This was all a part of the master plan.
I already think he is a superstar. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the face of the FIFA game next year and I think he will be England captain in three to four years’ time.Troy Deeney
His parents have kept him level and grounded, but at the same time he isn’t a robot, he isn’t stiff. He gives you a bit in interviews but he has never forgotten who he is and where he comes from.
He is still humble enough to come back to Birmingham, to speak about the city and the role certain players had on him.
Sometimes you just have to sit back and clap. I am someone who likes to give people their flowers while they are alive.
That family is special and as a parent, I would like to be like their parents. It is a pleasure to be around them.
There are no doubts in that young man’s head.
He has an unwavering belief and I see that come out on the pitch.
Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham could stand out at the World CupCredit: Getty
I studied him in the Germany game, and when England were 2-0 down, he was the one driving people forward, going to press. The word to describe his performance is ‘flawless’.
There is just something different in the way he  carries himself.
He demands the best  but can do it with a smile.
In my day and before, captains would be barking and screaming but these guys can do that with a laugh and a smile at the same time. From what I have been told, he has been like this since he was 16, driving games, being a real positive presence off the pitch.

He will be getting linked with massive clubs now.
His family are very methodical, so they will sit down and think about the pros and cons for each move but Jude will have his mind made up already.
He doesn’t have the mindset of wanting to sit and have a few more years development but I don’t see Liverpool as the move.
I can see why he would play there and why it would work but I have just a feeling that Spanish football will suit him. If Real Madrid come in, I can’t see him turning that down. More

Real Madrid set to raid Man City for Erling Haaland and Joao Cancelo as they ploy ambitious double transfer swoop

In the summer transfer window, Real added the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni to Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
But the next two summers could be even bigger with Real hoping to weaken one of their main threats in Europe, Man City.
According to AS, Real want to reignite their interest in Haaland, 22, who has scored 14 goals in 11 games played for the Premier League champions this season.
Haaland has a £161million release clause which is valid for the summer of 2024, the date set by Real to start the transfer operation.

The forward held talks with Real before his move to City, but opted against signing on at the Bernabeu as he did not want to compete with Karim Benzema.
The report also claims Real would like to sign full-back Joao Cancelo.
The 29-year-old has a contract at the Etihad until the summer of 2027.
However, it is believed he could be picked up for a fee between £36-£45m next summer.

Ancelotti knows the player well from when he was managing in the Prem at Everton.
Ferland Mendy would play in Cancelo’s position.
But the Frenchman’s future at Real is in doubt, despite being contracted until 2025.
Mendy’s requests are above what Real are willing to pay, and so any renewal has been put on hold, playing in favour of Cancelo. More
