Madrid reportedly decided against the move because of an “issue with Jesus’ passport”.
Despite this, he remains a player that boss Carlo Ancelotti admires.
According to Goal, Jesus is on a five-man shortlist compiled by the Italian.
They claim that Ancelotti sees him as a perfect understudy, and potential successor, to Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema.

Earlier this month, Jesus told BT Sport of the bond he already feels with Arsenal fans.
He said: “In the first days when I signed here I went to a Brazilian restaurant.
“I was waiting in my car outside, and a lot of Arsenal fans came to say welcome to the club.

“It is different at Manchester City of course. City have had a lot of impact in the last 10, 15 years. Arsenal before that had a lot. It’s different, you know.
“I feel that welcome, the way they come to talk to me. They are supporting you to the end. Exactly.
“I was happy with the fans at City as well, but it’s different.” More

While Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are also pushing to sign the youngster, Real Madrid consider themselves in pole position to complete the deal, which is expected to be worth around £87million.
Many fans are now convinced that Bellingham is Bernabeu-bound following the revelation that three Real Madrid stars have been granted Spanish passports.
Brazilian trio Eder Militao, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo recently became citizens of Spain, meaning that there are three non-EU player spots now available in the squad.
This opens up the opportunity for Bellingham – who is an English citizen – to join the club.

Fans took to Twitter to react to the revelation, with one person writing: “Does this signing excite me? Very much. Did Real Madrid need an English player? Since a long time. Is Bellingham the ideal signing for 2023? Without a doubt.”
    Another added: “Let’s gooooo!!!!”
While a third simply said: “Perfect timing.”
Bellingham’s current contract with Borussia Dortmund expires in 2025, but he is expected to leave Signal Iduna Park next summer.

Diaz spent part of his youth career with Manchester City but left in 2019 after failing to get regular football.
But, as part of his move to Real Madrid, it appears savvy City negotiators inserted a clause that could hinder any potential moves to their Manchester rivals.
Gazzetta dello Sport report that an “anti-Man Utd clause” was added to star’s contract.
It means that if Real Madrid were to sell the star to Erik ten Hag’s side specifically, Man City would receive 40 per cent of any transfer fee.

The deal discourages Madrid from selling to United and almost guarantees they will get less money than if the Spanish side sold to any other club.
It is not known why specifically City inserted this clause in but it could now prove to be an inspired move with Diaz’s name growing in European football.
The 23-year-old was always widely tipped to have a stellar career despite it not working out at the Etihad.
He only made 15 appearances for Real Madrid before being shipped off to AC Milan on loan in 2020.

According to SER, however, Real want to hold showdown talks with the winger’s representatives to extend his stay in Madrid – including a bumper pay rise.
The Spain international has struggled to break into Carlo Ancelotti’s line-up with Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior and 2022 Ballon d’Or Winner Karim Benzema ahead of him in the pecking order.
Previous reports suggested Asensio wasn’t with his bit-part role in the team – but he appears to have changed his mind after a string of opportunities off the bench.
Therefore, the versatile attacker could put pen to paper on a new deal with the reigning European champions.

His agent Jorge Mendes, though, appears to want a longer deal with an even higher wage bill.
Nevertheless, Real are keen to hold on to Asensio and will push for a response before the 2022 World Cup – with the star tipped to be called up by Spain boss Luis Enrique.
Arsenal appear keen on adding more firepower up front with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard firing on all cylinders already.
The same goes for Tottenham, who want to add reinforcement next to Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski.

Karim Benzema has joined this list of football legends after his Ballon D’Or win
The award, based on a player’s individual achievements over a calendar year, comes after his outstanding performances in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
He scored an incredible ten goals in seven games – including two hat-tricks – as Madrid pulled off one of the most dramatic and extraordinary wins in the competition’s history.
And it is an incredible turnaround on a personal level with the ace involved in a sex tape blackmail scandal which saw him exiled from the French team and was only settled last year.
After winning the award, and with boyhood hero Zinedine Zidane next to him, he told the cheering audience: “This prize in front of me makes me really proud.

“When I was small I never gave up. It was a childhood dream.
“I had two role models in my life. [Zinedine] Zidane and Ronaldo as well. I always had this dream in my mind that everything is possible.
“There was a difficult period where I wasn’t in the French team but I never stopped working hard. I never gave up. I always kept in my head this job of playing football.”

It was Benzema’s heroics in the Champions League that made him the overwhelming favourite for this year’s Ballon d’Or honour.
Before their victory in the final over Liverpool, Real Madrid appeared determined to make it as difficult as possible for themselves as they fell behind on aggregate in each of the second legs of the knockout games.
But against Paris-Saint Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City, Los Blancos rallied every time and found a way to win.
Benzema was key to both those improbable victories for Carlo Ancelotti’s sdie and Real Madrid’s La Liga title, with the Frenchman scoring 44 goals in all competitions.
He has never previously even finished in the top three of the Ballon D’Or before this year.
He takes the crown from Lionel Messi, who had won the previous two awards.
And it means that Benzema is only the second player who is not Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to win the prestigious prize since 2008.
Luka Modric also managed to break the pair’s stronghold over the Ballon d’Or when he won it in 2018.
Benzema signed for Real Madrid in 2009 and has scored over 300 goals for the club.
De Bruyne spoke of his pride in coming third in the Ballon d’Or – which is the first time a Man City player has achieved the feat.
The 31-year-old attacking genius said: “Obviously it is nice to be in that list and to be nominated for it. I have been nominated quite a few times now, so it means you have been doing well consistently.
“To be recognised as a player is always nice. If you are in that list, then it means a lot and after it is the people’s opinion. As a player, I thinkyou understand what you do good and what you do bad.”
City also picked up the Club of the Year award in recognition of their overall achievements at various levels, while Thibaut Courtois won the Lev Yashin award for best keeper.
Robert Lewandowski picked up the Gerd Muller prize for best striker, and Sadio Mane didn’t leave empty-handed with the kind-hearted Senegal ace winning the new Socrates award for services off the pitch.

He has already won four Bundesliga titles with the German champions and penned a two-year extension in 2020 to keep him at the club until 2025.
But according to Marca, Real have identified him as one of their major transfer targets.
In response to a fan linking fellow Bayern man Joshua Kimmich to Los Blancos, journalist Jose Felix Diaz responded by insisting Davies is a more likely acquisition.
Speaking on Twitch, he said: “From Bayern, the name they have most in mind is Davies.”

Jude Bellingham is still thought to be Real’s main target over the coming 12 months.

Davies, who has been capped 32 times by Canada, suffered an ankle injury in 2020 which kept him out for nearly two months.
He then contracted Covid at the beginning of this year, with Bayern subsequently discovering he had developed a heart issue – mild myocarditis.
Then during the Bundesliga side’s 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund last weekend, he sustained a cranial injury which saw him substituted at half-time.

Drake was the first to surpass 50billion streams on Spotify and is being honoured as a result.
Further collaborations with other artists are likely to happen later on in the season.
The OWL will replace Spotify’s logo on the front of the jersey.
And some supporters can’t get past the likeness to Sheffield Wednesday’s iconic badge.

A statement read: “One of the main ideas behind the alliance between FC Barcelona and Spotify is to bring football and music together in order to connect with new audiences around the world.
“As both are capable of bringing people together and exciting fans, for the first time, the men’s football team will enter the pitch for Sunday’s Clasico wearing a jersey featuring the logo of an internationally acclaimed artist – rapper and singer Drake, winner of 4 Grammy awards and the first to surpass 50 billion streams on Spotify – rather than their main partner’s logo.
“Spotify has given this privileged space on the jersey as part of the framework of the partnership with the Club, just one of the actions that both brands are putting into place to offer innovative experiences for football fans, as well as helping to reach new audiences through music.
“As was announced when the agreement was ratified, this type of exchange on the front of the jersey is scheduled to happen more as the season progresses.”

However, fans are all saying the same thing: The Drake curse.
Barca are currently sat top of LaLiga, edging out last season’s winners Real on goal difference.
But should history repeat itself, the Drake curse – which has seen sports stars he’s supported immediately lose afterwards – could see Barca fall behind their rivals with defeat at the Bernabeu.
Supposed victims of the curse include Conor McGregor, Serena Williams and Anthony Joshua.
And with mood at the Camp Nou already low with the club on the verge of dropping out of the Champions League, fans don’t want superstition working against them.
One Barca fan said: “Drake curse in full effect. Real Madrid winning 3-1.”
Another tweeted: “Drake curse on El Clasico… are you for real?”
On featuring on Barca’s kit, Drake admitted “this doesn’t feel real”.
While others are just picturing League One side Sheffield Wednesday.
Replying to the kit, a fan said: “Drake? All I see is Sheffield Wednesday…”
Another suggested taking Drake “to the cleaners” for copying the badge.
