Many clubs tried to move the legendary midfielder away from Merseyside, such as Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Chelsea who almost landed him shortly after the Miracle of Istanbul.
However, the loyal Liverpool soldier stayed put at Anfield until 2015 when he flew across the pond for LA Galaxy and retired a year later.
Legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson also tried to test Gerrard’s devotion when he asked Neville to approach him ahead of Euro 2004 when they both played for England
The Merseysiders’ popular captain, though, “categorically” rejected the former full-back’s pitch insisting he is never leaving Liverpool.

Neville said on the latest edition of Stick to Football as per Sky Bet: “Stevie told this in his book, where I went into his room with England and asked him to sign for Manchester United.
“I was meeting up with England for the Euros, and he [Ferguson] rang me and said it’s ambitious, but his words were, ‘Tell him I’ll go and fetch him, and I’ll walk him back down the East Lancs’.
“I went to see Stevie, and he quite categorically [rejected it] pretty quickly.
“He said he would never get out of Liverpool and his family would never get out of Liverpool.”

I was released by Premier League side and decided to quit football.. now I’m thriving and winning awards in new career

IN the world of youth football, dreams are often shattered as young players struggle to breakthrough onto the professional stage. And former Wolves star Jacob Gibson is one of those victims – who gave up his footballing career in 2013 but is now thriving as a manager at Lloyds Bank.
Former Wolves star Jacob Gibson is now thriving as a manger at Lloyds Banks
Gibson’s journey at Molinuex did not end dramatically but rather he had a realisation that top-flight English football was not for him.
In his first year as a full-time scholar at the club Gibson was struck with injuries and sent on loan to Doncaster.
This meant it was going to be hard to land a professional contract during his second season.
He said in an interview with The Express and Star: “I’d been really looking forward to getting in full-time, giving it a proper go and seeing how I could do.

“Then in the first week of pre-season I did my ankle, and, when I came back, I had a nightmare with my hamstring.
“By the time I was fit, the Under-18s were on an amazing run, winning 11 in a row, and I was sent to Doncaster on loan.
“That was a different experience, and I didn’t really want to be there because the lads were doing so well at Wolves and the atmosphere was brilliant around the place.”
At the age of 19, Gibson was released from the West Midland’s club and then failed to secure a place at League Two side Accrington Stanley.

And it was after his axing he realised his career in football was no more.
He continued: “Having barely played in my first year, by the time I got into my second there were already conversations about how it was going to be a real struggle to get a pro deal.
“I kept my head down and tried my hardest, and always had the belief I would take my chance if it came.
“But deep down I knew it wasn’t going to happen and I had to prepare for what was coming next.”
Gibson decided to have a dramatic career change and enroll at university and obtained degrees in Sport Science and Sport and Business Management.
He then joined Lloyds Banking Group through their graduate scheme and has since achieved success in his career, currently working as a Senior Sourcing Manager.
Now 29, Gibson achievements in his very different career have not gone unnoticed.
In 2022 he was nominated for the ‘Future Leader’ accolade at the Ethnicity Awards alongside the likes of Bukayo Saka, Alex Scott and Leigh-Anne Piddock from Little Mix.  More

Dortmund announced the move with a short statement that read: “I’m back.”
Sancho appeared to make a dig at Erik ten Hag as he sealed the move, saying he “can’t wait to play football with a smile” again.
On rejoining his former club, the winger said: “When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like coming home.
“I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge.

“I can’t wait to see my team-mates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, assist goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”
Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: “Jadon is an absolute difference player and I’m looking forward to seeing him back in black and yellow soon.

“He knows this city, Signal Iduna Park, our fans and our club.
“Even though he hasn’t played any competitive games in the past few months, we are sure that he will quickly settle back in with us, get into top form and use his qualities to help us achieve our goals for the season.”

Sancho had a huge fall out with Erik ten Hag and refused to apologise to himCredit: Getty
Sancho is looking to revive his career after spending four months in exile at Manchester United.
He has not played any football since his public fall out with Ten Hag.
Sancho was left out of the squad for United’s trip to Arsenal in September with the boss citing his “performances in training.”
The attacker then took to social media and claimed he was made a “scapegoat” by Ten Hag.
He then refused to apologise and was banned from training and all first-team facilities.
Sancho returns to Dortmund after spending four years there from 2017 to 2021.
The fans’ favourite scored 50 goals and got 64 assists in 137 games, earning him a £73million move to Man Utd.
But he has suffered a nightmare at Old Trafford, struggling to hit top form as he found the back of the net just 12 times in 82 games.
The 23-time capped England star also managed a paltry six assists.
Ex-United star Louis Saha slammed him as one of the club’s “biggest transfer failures” ever when speaking to Paddy Power.
Sancho’s Red Devils contract runs until 2026 and his parent club are reportedly paying £100,000 of his weekly £290,000 salary while he is in Germany.
Dortmund supposedly do not have an option to buy included in the loan deal.

Maurizio Sarri’s side punched their ticket to the semi-finals thanks to Mattia Zaccagni’s winner in the 51st minute following a controversial VAR review that led to a penalty-kick.
Tensions then flared up with Lazio’s former Chelsea star Pedro being shown a second yellow card following a scuffle with old Roma team-mate Gianluca Mancini in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
The Giallorossi then lost Sardar Azmoun only four minutes later after a rough challenge on Nicolo Rovella.
Mancini became the final player to be shown a red card due to dissent, but that took place after the final whistle.

Referee Daniele Orsato had his hands full on the pitch but also had to deal with the benches.
And that led to yet another red card for Mourinho, who was fuming with VAR and the decision to award Lazio a spot-kick.
This comes after the ex-Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea boss was also sent off against Atalanta on Sunday.
That one was his fifth in Serie A in the past two seasons, more than any player.

The Biancocelesti were awarded a penalty after Roma’s Dean Huijsen appeared to have clipped Valentin Castellanos’s heel while they challenged for the ball inside the area.
Mourinho told Mediaset after the match: “It’s a modern football penalty, the sort that wouldn’t have been given before VAR.
“The referee didn’t give it when he was three metres away but with VAR he then gives it.”
Mourinho’s contract with Roma runs out in June and the Portuguese tactician has yet to agree a new deal. More

Man Utd vs Tottenham: Red Devils host Spurs in crunch Premier League clash at Old Trafford – team news, kick-off time

MANCHESTER UNITED host Tottenham in a thrilling Super Sunday clash – and a win for the visitors would see them close the gap on league leaders Liverpool to just THREE points.Erik ten Hag will be hoping his side can get back to winning ways in the Premier League after United’s 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest at the end of December.

While Postecoglou’s side start the day off in fifth – just one point behind Arsenal and treble winners Manchester City despite their little wobble.
Spurs won the reverse fixture back in August by beating the Red Devils 2-0 in Postecoglou’s first win as Tottenham manager.
And Timo Werner will be eager to impress help them do the double on his debut for Tottenham after making the switch from RB Leipzig.
Tottenham go into this game with wind in their sails following a FA Cup third round win against Burnley.

But injury-hit United also booked their spot in the fourth round with a comfortable 2-0 win away at Wigan.
    What is the team news?
Both sides will be without key players for this thrilling match because of AFCON and the Asia Cup.
Spurs will be without top scorer Son Heung-Min who is on international duty with South Korea.
Son will not to be available for this fixtureCredit: PA
Unfortunately for Spurs fans, South Korea are the bookies’ second favourites to win the tournament which could potentially see them being without Son for a whole month.

Midfield duo Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma will also represent their respective nations in AFCON.
And the north London outfit will also be without Ivan Perisic, World Cup winner Christian Romero and Ben Davies for their trip to Old Trafford through injury.
Elsewhere, Cameroon International Andre Onana is expected to be in goal for Manchester United, despite getting called up for AFCON.
But Sofyan Amrabat has already travelled with Morrocco to play in Senegal.
Erik ten Hag will be hopeful that Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Christian Eriksen will return to his injury-side on Sunday.
However, United are certainly set to be without Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Mason Mount and Victor Linderlof.
Amad Diallo, Antony and Anthony Martial are currently being assessed over the fixture.
    What is their form like?
Manchester United have endured a horrible run of form in the league by only winning one of their last 5 matches with conceding 10 goals in that period.
The win in that period came at Old Trafford against Aston Villa with the Red Devils coming back from two goals down in the first half to win 3-2 against Unai Emery’s side.
United’s last Premier League game came in a 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest which saw Nuno Espírito Santo record their first win against United for 29 years.
Erik ten Hag will be hoping that his side has turned the corner with United’s 0-2 win against Wigan Athletic on Monday to make it to the 4th round of the FA Cup.
Tottenham’s form is very contrasting compared to the hosts with winning four out of their last 5 matches with scoring 13 goals in that period.
Tottenham have the third best away record in the league with one point less than Manchester City and Liverpool.
Postecoglou’s side last Premier League game ended Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth seven unbeaten streak with a 3-1 win.
Who will be the star men?
In-form Manchester United players have been hard to come by this season but the potential of Alejandro Garnacho is very promising for the Red Devils.
The Argentinian winger has produced outstanding performances this season with arguably scoring one of the best overhead kicks of all time back in November.
In United’s last three games, the winger has produced by scoring 2 goals and registering 1 assist.

Garnacho, 19, produced an impressive performance on Monday against Wigan Athletic.
The ever-impressive Son Heung-Min will be missed for Tottenham but one player that has had a rejuvenate season is Richarlison.
The Brazilian currently sits on seven goals in all competitions with five of them coming in his last five Premier League games.

The Brazilian forward endured a dismal last season by only scoring THREE goals in 35 appearances in all competitions with only one goal in the Premier League.
Harry Kane’s exit to Bayern Munich last summer has paved the way for Richarlison to flourish in a Tottenham shirt.

Real Madrid are in talks with the superstar but no agreement has been struck.
Reports suggest that Mbappe will have to take a pay cut to secure a move to Los Blancos.
