RB Leipzig chief fires parting dig at Liverpool star Fabio Carvalho as he is recalled and sent to Hull on loan transfer

LIVERPOOL star Fabio Carvalho was sent straight back out on loan to Hull City after returning from RB Leipzig earlier this month. The 21-year-old exited the club because he “didn’t want to face competition”, according to the Bundesliga side’s sporting director Rouven Schroder.

The Reds youngster signed for Leipzig in the summer but was called back by Jurgen Klopp’s team after only playing 158 minutes in the Bundesliga.
Carvalho, who made 15 appearances but mainly from the bench at Leipzig, struggled to outshine players like Dani Olmo and Lois Openda.
After a disappointing stint in Germany, the Portugal under-21 international moved to Hull City on loan for the rest of the season.
Schroder claimed his lack of determination to fight for a spot on the team as the reason for his departure.

He told RB Live: “We made a conscious decision to go with Fabio last summer.
“He had a great season with Fulham in the English second division, which is very physical.
“We had said to ourselves: great talent, good age, has already gained his experience.”
“Nevertheless, you don’t get to know a player as an end product until he’s there.

“Fabio has a great character. But he realized: ‘Okay, there’s a competitor here, I need to do more!’.
“And we noticed that he didn’t want to face the competition.”
And over Christmas, there were doubts over Carvalho’s future at Leipzig.
When Liverpool asked to terminate the loan the German side did not stand in their way.
Schroder continued: “Do we feel more comfortable with a man or do we be clear and straight and say: Listen, if you don’t want to go down this path, then we’ll end the loan.
“You shouldn’t be afraid of abandonment.”
Carvalho’s first appearance for the Championship team was not as glorious as he hoped, as he was part of the 2-1 loss to Norwich on Friday night.

Chelsea fans baffled as £10million striker makes Premier League transfer swap – despite Pochettino wanting new forward

Fofana, 21, was in the stands at Turf Moor to see his new side draw 1-1 with Luton last night.
And he has now been unveiled as a Burnley player via a bizarre ET-inspired announcement video.
Fofana said: “It feels very good to be here, I’m really happy. I think it will be a really good place for me to progress and it’s the perfect move for me.
“To work with Vincent Kompany will be very good. I have seen a couple of games already and I think this is the right place for me to make the next steps.

“I have known about Burnley for a long time, they have been in the Premier League before this season and the champions [of the Championship] last year and I’m now looking forward to now being a part of this team.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea supporters have been left baffled by the move amid manager Mauricio Pochettino stressing he needs more attacking options.
The Blues will be without Nicolas Jackson for some time due to him representing Senegal at Afcon and Christopher Nkunku has suffered an injury setback.
One Chelsea fan said: “I thought he’ll stay and help the team.”

Another added: “This guy is easily better than Armando Broja. I thought this club would keep him.”
More raged: “Instead of buying another striker, why can’t we keep Fofana?”
Others were more positive, saying: “This will be a good move for his development if he plays.”

Fofana joined Chelsea a year ago for £10m from Norwegian side Molde.
He made four appearances for the first-team before being sent out on loan to Union Berlin.
But the Ivorian managed just two goals in 17 games and had a falling out with previous boss Urs Fischer, refusing to shake his hand and crying when he was substituted.
The loanee then issued an apology.
Burnley do not have an option to buy Fofana included in the loan deal.
As for Nkunku, he missed the first three months of the season with a knee injury and now a hip issue is keeping him in the treatment room.
On the Frenchman, Pochettino revealed: “We’re disappointed and a little bit worried because we want Nkunku involved again as soon as possible.
“We are still assessing him, we don’t know what is going to happen.

“It’s complicated with him. It’s now between eight and ten days since he could train.

But the Norwegian icon could soon be back in the dugout for his first international role as boss.
According to Fotbollskanalen, Solskjaer and the Swedish FA have discussed for him to take over the leading role of the senior squad.
Sweden are desperate for a new manager after Janne Andersson stepped down after their final clash in the Euro 2024 qualifying.
This was the first time since Euro 1996 that the Blue and Yellows have failed to qualify for the European Championship.
    READ MORE ON MAN UD
The report claims that Solskjaer is one of a number of candidates to succeed Andersson.
Meanwhile, the 1999 Champions League winner never played or managed in Sweden.
And the Swedish FA are open to having a non-Swede in the head coach position.
However, ex-Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg and Australia women’s boss Tony Gustavsson are said to be top of the shortlist, the report revealed.

And Denmark’s all-time top goal-scorer and Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson is also being considered.
In September Solskjaer admitted that he wanted to return to football management and that he turned down two offers from Saudi Arabia over the summer.
Old Trafford needed to turn things around in 2018 after Jose Mourinho was sacked and United thought their former forward was the perfect man for the job.

But in November 2021 Solskjaer’s time was up – after the Red Devils faced a thrashing 4-1 defeat to Watford.
Since his axe, he has been spending time coaching his youngest son Elijah’s youth team back in his native Norway. More

Chelsea ‘working to complete transfer of 16-year-old worth £52m’ as fans say ‘Boehly hasn’t learned’

CHELSEA are working on signing ANOTHER Brazilian wonderkid.Estevao Willian is just 16 years old and plays for Brazilian Serie A side Palmeiras.
Chelsea have set their sites on signing MessinhoCredit: Instagram
Willian is so highly rated in Brazil that he has earned the nickname of ‘Messinho’ after Lionel Messi.
He made his Palmeiras debut when he came off the bench against Cruzeiro in December as Palmeiras won the Serie A title on the final day of the season.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in negotiations with Palmeiras over signing the player.
And he has a whopping release clause of £52million.

Barcelona are also in contact with Palmeiras and could rival Chelsea to his signature.
Chelsea have pursued an aggressive strategy of paying big-money for young players since Todd Boehly’s takeover of the club last year.
The Blues broke their transfer record to sign Enzo Fernandez, 22, for £107m from Benfica then broke it again to snap up Moises Caicedo, 22, for a £115m fee from Brighton.
But neither player can be described as an unqualified success since moving to Stamford Bridge.

Boehly has spent over £1billion in transfer fees since becoming the club’s owner.
He’s signed several young Brazilians during his tenure such as Andrey Santos, Angelo Gabriel and Deivid Washington.

Only Deivid Washington has made an appearance for Chelsea, playing 14 minutes in the third round of the FA Cup against Preston.
And fans are worried that Boehly could be making the same mistake of signing a player for the future but neglecting the here and now.
One fan wrote: “£52m on him whilst we have Jackson occupying ST and Chilwell at LB.”
Another fan wrote: “We’re never signing another player over 25 it seems.”
A third fan wrote: “Chelsea signs everyone, yet their team remains mid..”
And a fourth tweeted: “Boehly hasn’t learned his lesson.”

Newcastle ‘line up stunning Paulo Dybala transfer with Argentina World Cup winner available for tiny release clause’

NEWCASTLE have reportedly lined up a stunning move for Argentina star Paolo Dybala. The Roma forward has an £11million release clause that can be activated by non-Serie A clubs.

Any interested party will have to move fast, however, with the clause expiring on January 15.
Dybala’s future has come under scrutiny in the Italian capital with the forward’s contract due to expire in 18 months.
As of yet, Roma are yet to offer Dybala, 30, a new deal.
Corriere Della Sera claim that Newcastle are the most interested party in triggering the forward’s release clause.

Dybala has scored six goals and provided six assists in 18 games for the Giallorossi this year.
Newcastle are limited this January due to FFP and will have to sell before they buy.
Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman could both leave the club in order to raise funds – with the Magpies announcing losses of £73.4million in 2022-23.
But the report claims Dybala’s bargain release clause could tempt Newcastle into a move if they can sell players this month.

His £183,000-a-week wages could pose a problem for Newcastle, however.
Dybala came close to moving to the Premier League in 2019 when he almost made the move to join Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs.
The move fell through in the dying seconds of the window however, due to an issue with the player’s image rights. More

And that is a flight that takes only EIGHT minutes give or take.
Dyche revealed he had a sit-down with the winger to address this bizarre travel arrangement.
The 52-year-old tactician described it as “excessive” and hinted this is just part of “modern players'” mentality.
Dyche said during the pre-match press conference before Sunday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa: “Well, I had a word with him.

“I said it seems excessive to go from Manchester Airport to Liverpool Airport for training.
“But you know, these modern players… Personally I would use a car but that’s the modern players.
“You know, they need to look after themselves and get their rest.”
Shocked fans took to social media and reacted with absolute disbelief upon hearing about Danjuma’s commute.

One fan tweeted: “D grade ballers flying into training everyday… Sport is finished.”
    Another gushed: “Mate.”
    A third wondered: “Really?”
This fan commented: “Who is he man?”
And that one said: “That’s awful, less than an hour drive.”
Danjuma joined Everton on loan after failing to stand out at Tottenham last season as part of a similar arrangement with Villarreal.
The Netherlands international has attracted interest from Lyon who wish to sign him in the January transfer window.
However, the Toffees are not keen on letting the 26-year-old go midseason, especially after Dwight McNeil’s recent injury. More

Mauricio Pochettino ‘worried’ about Christopher Nkunku injury as he gives grim update on Chelsea striker

MAURICIO POCHETTINO is “worried” about Christopher Nkunku as injuries continue to plague the start of his Chelsea career. The French forward, 26, only made his Blues debut in December after being sidelined with a knee problem for the first four months of the season.

And he marked his first match in a Chelsea shirt with a consolation goal in a 2-1 defeat to Wolves.
He then started in a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, before he came on as a second-half substitute in a 3-2 victory over Luton.
But Nkunku has been absent for Chelsea’s last two games due to a hip injury he picked up in training.
They were a 4-0 win over Preston in the FA Cup and a 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

It means Chelsea – who have spent £1billion on players over the last 18 months – have received just four appearances and one goal for the £52million they spent on Nkunku in the summer.
And Pochettino, who is preparing for a West London derby against Fulham on Saturday lunchtime, is still looking for a member of his squad that can consistently lead the line up front.
Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja have all played as the No9 in recent weeks.
But a positive update for Chelsea fans is defenders Ben Chilwell and Benoit Badiashile are set to return from injury and be included in the squad for their home clash with rivals Fulham.
Pochettino added: “The good news is having players like [Trevoh] Chalobah, Chilwell, Badiashile and [Carney] Chukwuemeka so close to being involved again and help the team to perform.” More

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino left red-faced after £115m signing Moises Caicedo appears to have stitched him up

MAURICIO POCHETTINO has been left red-faced by his own player, Moises Caicedo following Chelsea’s loss to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup.Chelsea lost the first leg of their semi-final 1-0 at Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

Pochettino took solace in the fact that Moises Caicedo had told him that his former side Brighton had also lost there last year.
But in actual fact, Brighton beat Boro 5-1 in last year’s third round of the FA Cup.
Immediately after the game, Pochettino said: “If you see the previous years, other Premier League teams went out to Middlesbrough.
“It was Caicedo telling me that ‘we lost last year to Middlesbrough with Brighton’ and many Premier League teams, when they play in the cups there, they lose.”

Caicedo’s memory had clearly failed him, given he played the entire 90 minutes of Brighton’s 5-1 victory.
Alexis Mac Allister netted two goals, Pascal Gross, Adam Lallana and Deniz Under netted the other goals for the Seagulls.
In fact, the last time Middlesbrough beat Brighton was a 3-0 victory in the Championship 2015-16 season.
Middlesbrough have claimed a couple of Premier League scalps in recent seasons though.

They knocked both Manchester United and Tottenham out of the 2021-22 FA Cup on their way to the quarter-finals, where they lost to Chelsea.
Pochettino did not shirk responsibility for the Middlebrough loss and said it was time to focus on their West London derby with Fulham in Saturday’s early kick off.
He said: “We are Chelsea and we cannot afford to lose these kinds of games but, to be honest, if you played 100 times, maybe you lose one because it is football and not another sport.
“We got criticised but sometimes it is good, we can learn with the criticism and we need to be tough, we need to feel the pressure to grow.
“For us it is important to perform and to win.
“We didn’t perform badly against Middlesbrough. We came from a few victories. We need to keep the momentum. It is true after the first leg we are 1-0 down but we need to keep the belief.
“It is important to realise we are still alive and we have the second leg at Stamford Bridge. We will fight to be in the final. We know when you lose a game to a Championship team, we need to accept the criticism.’ More
