Premier League’s fastest player revealed with Kyle Walker replaced by shock star – as fans say ‘pray for those hammies’

Four out of the top seven fastest players are new arrivals in the Premier League, while the third quickest star Pedro Neto was injured for long spells last season.
Walker had registered the fastest speed since 2020-21 after hitting 37.31 km/h.
But that has now been topped by Tottenham centre-back Micky van de Ven.
That means the Dutchman has recorded the fastest speed this season – just pipping Luton star Chiedozie Ogbene to top spot, with the Hatters winger managing 36.93 km/h.

Two more Prem newcomers round off the top five in Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai and Burnley’s Dara O’Shea.
They have reached speeds of 36.76 km/h and 36.73 km/h respectively – a fraction quicker than Newcastle speedster Anthony Gordon.
Everton midfielder Amadou Onana rounds off the top seven which means there is no place for Walker.
Fans were surprised to see miss out but were not shocked to see Van de Ven top the list.

Phil Foden’s hat-trick sets impressive new Premier League record during Brentford vs Man City

PHIL FODEN’S hat-trick ignited a crazy all-time record for Premier League goals scored in a single week.Foden’s third strike in Manchester City’s 3-1 comeback win at Brentford made it 45 top-flight goals following a spectacular weekend.

That total pipped the haul of 44 achieved for a 10-match week in both September 2020 and in May 2023.
It also means the Prem is on course for a new seasonal record of goals.
This term’s tally of 730 goals in 228 games averages out at 3.2 a game.
If that rate is maintained it would give the Prem 1,216 by the end of the campaign, beating the current highest mark of 1,084 for a 38-game season.

Fans stunned as Brentford exploit lesser-known rule to score opening goal vs Man City – and Pep doesn’t even see it

SOME FANS were left in disbelief after Brentford exploited a little-known rule to take the lead against Manchester City – and Pep Guardiola did not even see it.The Bees suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to the Cityzens on Monday night.

Phil Foden stole the show with a stunning hat-trick as the champions closed the gap to just two points on leaders Liverpool.
However, it was Brentford that broke the deadlock against the run of play in the 21st minute after taking the route one approach.
The incident occurred straight from a Mark Flekken goal kick, who thumped the ball straight up field in the direction of Ivan Toney.
The Bees striker had started in an offside position before he held off City defender Nathan Ake without touching the ball.

That allowed it to bounce forward towards the City goal as Neal Maupay charged through to slot home past Ederson.
The move caught the City defence completely unaware, and it appears their manager was aswell.
Replays later showed that Guardiola was facing the opposite direction from the pitch and talking to his bench when Toney’s moment of magic happened.
Some fans, and even City players, were left bemused by the fact that the goal was allowed to stand given Toney’s position when Flekken kicked it.

However, rules state that a player is unable to be offside from a goal kick, and other supporters loved the fact that he had exploited that loophole.
“Ivan Toney does understand the fine prints of football rules. My word,” wrote one.

While a fourth added: “Brentford humbling the noisy VAR club.” More

Brentford 1 Man City 3: Stunning Foden hat-trick sees champions come from behind to leave them just two points off top

SO who’s the key to slaying your big, bad Brentford bogeymen on a cold Monday night in the shadow of the Chiswick Flyover?Turns out it’s Phil Foden, the titchiest man on the pitch, who netted a cool hat-trick to send Manchester City into pole position in the title race.

Thomas Frank’s Bees had completed the double over Pep Guardiola’s Treble-winners last season and they led again here through Neal Maupay.
But on the night when Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne were paired in the City starting line-up for the first time since August, it was England man Foden who stole the show.
There were question marks about where – even if – Foden would play once De Bruyne was fit again.
It turns out he plays here, there and everywhere. And especially in the box, where he scored a poacher’s hat-trick.

This match completed the highest-scoring round of ten matches in Premier League history – 45 in all – and there wasn’t a single one from Haaland, the Norse God of goals, back in the starting line-up for the first time in two months.
City are still two points behind leaders Liverpool but crucially, they have a game in hand – also against Brentford.
Guardiola’s men needed to capitalise on Liverpool’s defeat at Arsenal but this was not the fixture they would have chosen.
The Bees may be only three points off drop zone but their direct tactics unsettled the champions again until Foden’s equaliser in first-half injury time.

Ivan Toney’s return added to Brentford’s fear factor.
The striker’s comeback from an eight-month betting ban had already proved lively.
Pep Guardiola’s incredible life off the pitch
There had been two goals, a foam-related cheat storm against Nottingham Forest and a row with James Maddison over the thorny issue of miming dart throws.
And soon, Toney was delivering a dangerous cross which had Ruben Dias scrambling about.
Alvarez twice had long-range efforts pushed wide by Mark Flekken, who then pulled off a full-length stunner to deny Kyle Walker.
This fixture has probably the sharpest clash of styles of any in the Premier League, City possessing the ball like jealous lovers, Brentford tending to wallop it.
But sometimes there’s nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned wallop, as Flekken proved when he became the first keeper to notch a Premier League assist this season.
The Dutch keeper leathered it upfield, Toney blocked off Nathan Ake quite legitimately, and suddenly Maupay was unmarked, clean through on goal, steering his shot past Ederson.
It was Maupay’s fifth goal in as many games, having suffered a drought of more than a year not so long ago.
Haaland almost equalised instantly, capitalising on a poor pass but having his shot thwarted by Flekken, sticking out a leg.
Pep Guardiola’s side dominated from start to finish
Rodri was key to maintaining City’s momentum
Next, the Bees keeper flung himself to push away a powerful drive from Josko Gvardiol.
It was Flekken this, Flekken that. At this point, it was basically ‘An Audience With Mark Flekken’.
Maupay escaped with a yellow for a horrible late lunge at Rodri.
But it wasn’t much more horrible than everything above-board that Brentford were doing to City.
When another long ball caused panic, Ederson came scrambling out of his area and the home fans were – wrongly – convinced that Bernardo Silva had committed a foul on Vitaly Janelt.
They were threatening a riot as Janelt lay prone while City countered and Bernardo almost scored.
A curling cross-shot from Sergio Reguilon then had Ederson improvising a save and soon the Brazilian was flat on his backside, making another desperate clearance.
It was difficult to remember when the City keeper, or his back four, had last looked so uncomfortable.
But Brentford will do this to you. If they were northern, and had an old-school British manager, people would mention it more.
Soon, we were back to our old friend Flekken, who was diving to his left to turn a curler from De Bruyne wide – his seventh save of the first half.
So the last thing we expected was for the Dutchman to concede a soft one in injury time.
De Bruyne’s cross was met with a weak Ethan Pinnock header, straight to Foden, who chested down and stroked it past a wrong-footed Flekken.
The second, eight minutes after the break, was simplistic. De Bruyne centred from the left and an unmarked Foden strolled past a dozing Reguilon to direct a header past Flekken.
As if stung by their own tardiness, Brentford surged forward – Mads Roerslev drove fiercely wide, Christian Norgaard and Maupay had efforts blocked, Toney skied a volley.
But it was no use because soon, Foden was at it again. Rodri pinged a pass forward to Haaland, who laid off for the England man to slip between two defenders and poke past Flekken.

Boehly is getting through them, and even had Bruno Saltori as caretaker for four games after Potter was axed
It was hoped that huge outlay would help ensure a return to the Champions League, along with the financial rewards that brings.
But they currently sit in the bottom half of the table after the dismal 4-2 home defeat to Wolves.
Despite reaching the Carabao Cup final, where they will take on Liverpool, fans have turned on boss Pochettino after their dire displays.
There have been calls for Jose Mourinho to return to Stamford Bridge for a third time as pressure mounts on the Argentine.

But Pochettino still has 18 months remaining on his deal.
And now the Daily Mail has claimed that serious financial concerns over sacking Pochettino have emerged as a significant factor.
They state that axing him and his large backroom team would cost over £10m with any pre-June pay-off counting towards the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for this season.
Chelsea are already struggling considering their massive transfer outlay and their case was not helped by failing to offload home-grown talents such as Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah on a permanent basis last term.
