Diogo Jota looks distraught as he’s stretchered off following clash with own team-mate during Brentford vs Liverpool

DIOGO JOTA looked devastated as he was taken off on a stretcher at Brentford – after being stamped on by his own team-mate.The Liverpool forward, 27, collided with Alexis Mac Allister as they both went in for a challenge on Bees skipper Christian Norgaard just before half-time in the 4-1 Premier League win in West London.

The Argentine World Cup winner accidentally caught Jota with a stray boot before Norgaard fell heavily on his legs.
The Portuguese ace was too badly injured to continue and had to be carried off in distressing scenes.
But Jurgen Klopp was able to turn to Mo Salah from the Liverpool bench with the fit-again Egyptian a more than able replacement.
The Jota injury blow came just minutes after Curtis Jones limped off – just eight days before the Carabao Cup final.

And the pair were both spotted leaving the stadium on crutches – with Jota’s left knee in a brace and Jones wearing a protective boot on his left foot.
Klopp – unhappy with some of the Brentford tackles – is already without Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alisson and Thiago all at risk of missing the date with Chelsea at Wembley.
And fans online quickly expressed their disappointment.
One said: “Always battling against it with injuries. Competing in four competitions is hard enough with a fully fit squad, never mind with four key players out!”

Another wrote: “Injuries to Szoboszlai, Jota, Jones, Alisson, Thiago, and Alexander-Arnold in the space of two weeks when we’re back in all four competitions within the next few weeks?”
A third added: “Liverpool don’t need any more of this.”
Liverpool ace Curtis Jones aims sly dig at Arsenal for ‘stealing their stuff’ after wild celebrations following huge win
A fourth commented: “DIOGO JOTA OUT INJURED TOOO?!?! I might turn off the TV.”
A fifth replied: “Jota now injured and being stretchered off. When will our luck with injuries change?”
And a final user responded: “So disheartening to see two Liverpool players who have had some of their best runs at the club recently taken off injured, especially given all the players out already.
“Jota’s in particular didn’t look good. His season might be over.”
Between Ryan Gravenberch coming on for Jones and Jota picking up his problem, Liverpool went in front at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Jota did brilliantly to flick on a long ball with his head.
And that set Darwin Nunez clear through the middle.
The Uruguayan showed bags of confidence to produce a superb chip over Mark Flekken into the back of the net.

Nunez, though, was subbed off at half-time with Cody Gakpo on in his place.

Barcelona make Premier League manager top choice to replace Xavi but cash-strapped side may be put off by release clause

BRIGHTON boss Roberto De Zerbi is Barcelona’s top choice to be their new manager. But De Zerbi’s Seagulls release clause – said to be worth up to £10m – could prove a sticking point for the cash-strapped Catalan club.

Reports in Spain claim De Zerbi has the support of key Barca figures to replace Xavi when the playing legend leaves the dugout at the end of this season.
President Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco, the former Chelsea and Barcelona star, both want the fiery Italian.
They love the Seagulls’ style of football under De Zerbi, his commitment to youth, and his personality.
De Zerbi’s agents, Edmundo Kabchi and Edoardo Cnajr, met Deco in Barcelona last Wednesday.

Although the talks were originally scheduled in order to discuss a contract renewal for another of their clients, defender Ronald Araujo, it is believed there were discussions about De Zerbi’s availability.
When he replaced Graham Potter at the Amex in October 2022, he signed a four-year deal.
Brighton and their head coach have been in talks for a couple of months about an extension which might well include a larger release clause.
But even the current amount would be a problem for Barca as the club continues to juggle its fragile finances.

Xavi himself spent millions buying himself out of his contract at Qatari club Al Sadd in order to take over at the Camp Nou.
De Zerbi could attempt something similar if he were desperate to force a move to Barcelona.
Football’s weirdest contract clauses revealed including non-Arsenal agreement and a private jet promise
But if the issue cannot be resolved, former Bayern Munich and Germany boss Hansi Flick is the Italian’s biggest rival for the job.
Flick is now represented by super-agent Pini Zahavi, who has good connections with Barcelona and most recently managed to take Robert Lewandowski there from Bayern Munich. More

And now he has his eyes set on swooping into the South American market.
Poch and Lionel Messi’s former side Newell’s Old Boys are said to be one of Boehly’s primary targets, according to Argentina president Javier Milei.
Boehly – who clashed with Chelsea fans last season – received a furious backlash from RC Strasbourg supporters after his BlueCo company purchased a majority stake in the French outfit last summer.
And Pochettino believes he would get an even angrier reaction from the notoriously-passionate ultras should he try his hand in Argentina.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash with Manchester City – who themselves are part of the worldwide City Football Group – Poch said: “It’s so difficult because Argentina is a country where it is not normally like here, where people arrive from outside and buy clubs.
“The fans, they feel they belong to the club and the club belongs to them, and it’s not easy to change the mentality.
“Maybe in time, yes, but at the moment I don’t believe it is going to be easy to buy a club there.
“But, of course, the president has new ideas and he wants to help the country and the people to have better lives.

“It’s a difficult situation, but all the Argentines, we are going to support and we are going to do everything to try to help the country, Argentina, to stay in a better situation.”
Milei revealed Chelsea’s interest in buying an Argentine club in December.
Petr Cech questions decade-long Mauricio Pochettino tactic that risks ruining Chelsea key man
And now he has also named giants Boca Juniors as one of the teams in Boehly’s vision.
Milei said: “There is a willingness to invest which has been expressed by Chelsea in the case of wanting to buy Boca, Racing, Newell’s, Lanus and Estudiantes.
“I am a fan of Boca and if investment groups come to Boca and invest a fortune, and that means Boca always wins and River are not able to win a single game, the question is, ‘Where do I sign?’”
But rather than taking the Chelsea name to Argentina, Poch instead offered out an invite for Milei to visit Stamford Bridge – and see both him and compatriot Enzo Fernandez.

    RC Strasbourg (football) – co-owner
Los Angeles Dodgers (baseball) – co-owner

Los Angeles Sparks (basketball) – co-owner
DraftKings (fantasy sports and betting) – owner
    Cloud9 (esports) – owner

Pochettino added: “I want to invite the president of Argentina [to Chelsea]. The other day, we made ‘Argentina Day’ here because we always try to celebrate things and create a nice atmosphere at the training ground.
“The staff did fantastic in the kitchen and the canteen.

Spurs’ first full season at their £1bn stadium was interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, with the 2019-20 campaign finishing behind closed doors.
The 2020-21 season was then played almost entirely without fans – drastically limiting the revenue that Tottenham, and other clubs, could make on matchdays.
During the following campaign, the Lilywhites were finally able to utilise their swanky home to its full potential – with fans paying a pretty penny.
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has devised a method for calculating the money per supporter that clubs make on matchdays.

Using clubs’ published accounts, Maguire divides matchday income by average attendance, then again by number of home games played.
He halves the figure for domestic cup games, given that gates are shared.
Tottenham are said to have earned £800,000 on matchdays from catering alone.
Their stadium opens two hours before kick-off, and at weekends often remains open for a further two hours after games.

Chelsea were third on £62, with Arsenal following on £59.05 and Liverpool £51.49.
There is then a big jump down to Manchester City, with the champions having pocketed £36.24 per supporter, per game.

At the other end of the table was Watford, who went on to be relegated.
The Hornets are said to have taken home £16.02 per supporter at each home game, a staggering £55 less than Tottenham.
