I always think you want to make the biggest impact you can possibly do on so many lives as possible.“That’s where I’m at so I’ve got to lead from the front. I’m going to need cavalry and I’m ready for them to rise up and we’ll just get through it again, and then we look at the future.Rochdale footballer Joe Thompson reveals he has beaten cancer for second timeThompson is looking to beat cancer for a third time“Definitely the fight is still inside, nothing changes, but actually facing it for the third time really hurts because you know what you are going to have to go through.”Thompson has created a GoFundMe to help raise £250,000 for his latest treatment. A message read: “Dear friends and supporters,”I am Joe Thompson and my journey has been one of resilience and hope. Once a professional footballer, my life took an unexpected turn in 2013 when I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.”The joy of fatherhood was overshadowed by this daunting challenge, but with courage and determination, I faced six months of chemotherapy and emerged in remission.”The battle seemed to be won, but life had other plans. On Christmas Eve 2016, 3 years later. I faced the harsh reality of a relapse.”I had to endure a stem cell transplant, where I spent 18 days in isolation, a period that tested my sanity but also showcased the strength of the human spirit.”Now, the cancer has returned with a vengeance, spreading to my lungs. In the face of adversity, I’ve been collaborating with oncologists and scientists, self-funding research to uncover the root cause of my recurring illness. What are the signs of lymphoma?LYMPHOMA is a term for cancer that starts in the lymph system – a network of vessels and glands that spans your body.
There are two main kinds of lymphoma – Hodgkin Lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.
Lymphoma can cause many different symptoms, depending on which type of lymphoma it is and where it develops in the body.
    The most typical signs are:

Swollen lymph nodes, such as in the neck, armpit or groin area
    Night sweats
    Extreme tiredness
    Itching
    Unexplained weight loss
    Fever
Excessive bleeding, such as nosebleeds, heavy periods and spots of blood under the skin

Other signs of lymphoma in a more localised area include:

Swelling of the stomach, loss of appetite and other abdominal symptoms
Coughing, shortness of breath, or chest pain

“Today, I reach out to you with a heartfelt plea for support. We aim to raise £250,000 to cover the costs of my ongoing treatment and to pioneer a groundbreaking test that could prevent the recurrence of not only my cancer but potentially save countless lives in the future.”As a family we have self funded the treatment and worked with the scientists so far with our own savings near on six figures but we still have a long way to go and would not have the opportunity to continue with the research and treatment without your support.”Your generosity can make a world of difference. Any amount you can contribute will be deeply valued and will bring us closer to a future where no family has to endure this struggle alone.”With gratitude and hope, Joe Thompson and Family.”Speaking to SunSport after his retirement in 2019, Thompson lifted the lid on his first cancer diagnosis. He said: “I didn’t want to scare anybody, but I didn’t want to hide anything either.”The more I could share regarding the experience, the more I wanted people to realise that you can get there, no matter how hard it is.”I needed to relay that message strong enough to make the impact.”People who are or have suffered cancer have told me they read the book while they were in hospital, which makes me happy to know my story is getting across.READ MORE SUN STORIES”It was tough to write and draining. ERIK TEN HAG insists he is still the right man to take Manchester United forward.
The Dutchman believes he can recapture their former glories, despite escaping for the second time in a row what could have been humiliation by Liverpool at the weekend.
And teen Willy Kambwala revealed his “passion” is to become a rock at the heart of United’s defence after making just his second start of the season against their bitter rivals.
United trailed 1-0 at half-time on Sunday but fought back to take a 2-1 lead before Mo Salah’s 84th-minute equaliser from the penalty spot.
Ten Hag was pleased with the second-half performance, declaring it “another signal and message for the future,” before adding, “the team and squad have high potential.”
Yet the Old Trafford chief sounds more and more like he has his finger stuck in a leaky dyke and does not think it is going to hold.
Comeback or not, United still threw away a lead for the third time in eight days following their 4-3 defeat to Chelsea and 1-1 draw with Brentford — both deep into injury time.

Southgate has long been criticised for letting loyalty blind him with England. Potter succeeded Tuchel at Chelsea and was seen as a ‘yes’ man to eccentric Americans Todd Boehly and Behdad  Eghbali, who appointed him  — to the cost of the team.Take a straw poll outside Stamford Bridge and see how many Chelsea fans would like Tuchel back. With no new signings, he took a team that had lost five of the previous ten games and led it from mid-table to fourth in 2021.At the same time they journeyed to the Champions League final, beating Premier League winners Manchester City in Porto. Nine months later they were club champions of the world. With Ratcliffe considering swingeing budget cuts at Old Trafford, a coach who can perform wonders on peanuts would be music to his ears. But apart from the fact Tuchel is a proven winner, unafraid to make big decisions and who does things on the cheap, there is one other ingredient to his methods that makes him irresistible. After Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal, during which Kane craftily changed his approach when taking a penalty in a major switch in style, Tuchel admitted they came up with the idea in a lift at the team hotel. How refreshing to know that even the best sometimes make it up as they go along, like the rest of us.Thomas Tuchel’s career statsThose numbers in full:

FFP – or Financial Fair Play – is a concept originally introduced by Uefa in 2009, officially to prevent clubs from spending money they could not afford.
Yet many critics have rounded on the system, accusing it of being a protective instrument, drafted by the so-called “legacy clubs” to prevent insurgent and wealthier clubs from buying their way onto the top table.
The Premier League introduced its own FFP regulations which came into effect for the 2013-14 season and which, while less stringent than Uefa regulations, they do impact on club spending.
Under the current Prem “Profitability and Sustainability” regulations, clubs who are constant members of the top flight for a three-year period are allowed total losses of £105m over those three campaigns.
But it is not as simple as totting up outlay and income.
The biggest outlay, of course, is transfer fees. The 20 Prem clubs spent a total of around £2.4bn in last summer’s transfer window.
Yet that does not mean they “spent” that money as far as the Prem rules are concerned.
Transfer fees are “amortised” over the length of the contract, so, for example, a £100m fee for a player who signs a five-year deal is amortised at a cost of £20m per season for each of those five campaigns. More

Premier League clubs blasted for ‘ludicrously’ introducing new technology AFTER next season starts

PREM clubs have been blasted for their “ludicrous” decision to bring in semi-automated offside technology AFTER next season has started. The 20 top-flight sides yesterday unanimously voted to back refs’ chief Howard Webb’s recommendation to use the new system — which will slash the time on VAR offside calls.Prem clubs have voted to bring in semi-automated offside technologyCredit: TNT SportsThe decision was labelled ‘ludicrous’Credit: TNT SportsBut the limb-tracking cameras will NOT be ready for the August Prem kick-off.And ex-Prem ref Mark Halsey insists the clubs have scored an embarrassing own goal, fuming: “It’s ludicrous we are not bringing this in from day one next season.“The Premier League is awash with money and it needs to be operational for every match. “It’s got to be ready for the season kick-off. We can’t bring it in four, five or six weeks into the season as that will question the competition’s integrity. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL”If it’s not ready, then wait until 2025-26.”The new SAOT system — which sees the Prem follow Fifa and Uefa’s lead — will not be used until after one of the three autumn international breaks in September, October and November. That allows an agreement over the right provider and the roll-out of the camera tech across the 20 grounds.Halsey added: “SAOT should have been introduced at the start of last season to follow on from the World Cup and the Champions League. Most read in Football“The clubs didn’t vote for it but the stakeholders of the League should have been working on it during the winter. What have they been waiting for? What are semi-automated offsides?
PREMIER LEAGUE clubs have voted in the use of semi-automated offsides from the 2024-25 season.
The technology tracks 29 different points on the body of every player.
Together with a chip in the football, the tech then can produce almost instantaneous decisions, even on the tightest of calls.
These are then visualised with computer-generated 3D images which clearly show the offence on a screen for fans watching the broadcast from home.
Referees on the pitch will need to step in and intervene if the offside call is subjective – ie the player in an offside position does not touch the ball.
    Here’s how it works:

Each ground will have up to 12 special cameras with limb-tracking technology.
These will focus on 29 goal-scoring body parts from every player on the pitch and will record their position 50 times per second.
During the World Cup in Qatar, the microchip in the ball sent back data points 500 times every second to determine the  precise instant it was played by an attacker OR a defender
That allowed the computer technology to alert the VAR that a player was in an offside position when the ball was played
But all decisions were then checked to ensure the attacker was interfering with play
The average time for an offside call in Qatar was cut to 25 seconds per incident
In future, a 3D animation will “show” the decision to fans in the stadium and via broadcasters, and this will be available by the next stoppage in play after the decision.
