It suggests the Red Devils are close to landing Holland forward Weghorst on loan from Burnley, following his temporary spell in Turkey.
United terminated Ronaldo’s contract in November – leading to a rollercoaster of rumours and heated transfer speculation.
Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag made it clear he wanted more firepower.
And he’s turned to Weghorst, the giant hitman who famously struck twice late on as a sub in the World Cup quarter-final against Argentina.

Holland’s direct play once he came on snatched a 2-2 draw, only for eventual tournament winners Argentina to triumph 4-3 on penalties.
Meanwhile, Cameroon skipper Aboubakar was the player who made way when legend Ronaldo moved to Al-Nassr last week.
Saudi League rules limit each club to registering eight foreign players.
And Besiktas reportedly want the 30-year-old back for a THIRD spell.

He originally joined on loan from Porto in 2019 and returned a year later in a permanent deal.
If Weghorst does exit Turkey for Old Trafford, it won’t stop Ten Hag targeting at least one more attacking signing this month.
But he lost out to Liverpool for PSV’s Holland wideman Cody Gakpo.
And it’s claimed the Red Devils are baulking at Atletico Madrid’s demands over Joao Felix.
Arsenal are also keen on the Portugal winger. More

Lloris was backed up by Pierluigi Gollini last season, before Fraser Forster was signed on a free transfer in the summer.
Forster, 34, has made three appearances this term, including in yesterday’s 1-0 win over Portsmouth.
While Tottenham are looking to sign a goalkeeper in the summer, it is not a priority position for this month’s window.
Instead, the Lilywhites are focusing on swoops for a right wing-back and an attacking midfielder.
Spurs have been linked with a double raid for Sporting Lisbon stars Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards.
They are also rumoured to be interested in Barcelona ace Franck Kessie.

Aubameyang, 33, made a shock transfer to Stamford Bridge last summer – but has struggled for form and has not scored for nearly three months.
Now Warnock, who has plenty of experience in dealing with all kinds of personalities across his 18-job managerial career, thinks trouble is brewing for the former Arsenal captain.
And the no-nonsense Yorkshireman believes Chelsea would be better off trying to sell Aubameyang before things get messy.
Warnock told talkSPORT: “You get players like that and you are better off without them.

“Chelsea are short of strikers but people like Aubameyang are after themselves really, they look after themselves as players and they’ll throw the manager under the bus rather than take any blame.
“So I think Graham Potter has to deal with it.
“It’s similar to what’s happened with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United.
“I said United should let him go in pre-season and that was no disrespect to Ronaldo.

“Leopards don’t change their spots and I don’t think Aubameyang will ever change.
“You know from Arsenal to Chelsea, now he looks the same type of player. On his day, as good as you’ll see, but his days are few and far between.”
Aubameyang joined Chelsea from Barcelona just seven months after being axed for disciplinary issues at Arsenal.
Within weeks, manager Thomas Tuchel was sacked and replaced by Potter.
The Gabon international hit the ground running with three goals in his first four appearances under the new gaffer.
But he has failed to find the net in his last ten matches – dating back to October 11.
And his miserable recent run was compounded on Thursday when he was subbed on and back off again in the defeat to Manchester City.

Burstow joined the Blues last January before being loaned back for the remainder of the season after breaking into the Addicks team under former manager Nigel Adkins.
He scored with his very first touch in senior football when he netted against Crawley Town in the EFL Cup in September 2021.
He continued to impress even when Adkins was replaced by Johnnie Jackson in October of that year.
He managed to score six goals and assist three more in 23 appearances for the South London club.

The 19-year-old has since been the Blues youth academy and has scored four goals and assisted two in his 16 appearances for the under-21 side.
Chelsea had been thinking about loaning him out but due to the current injury crisis at the club have changed their minds.
The Blues have had the worst injury record since the start of last season out of any club in the top five European Leagues.
There have been 97 injuries to the players and there are currently at least nine players in the treatment room.

Weghorst joined Burnley last season before their relegation and was loaned to Besiktas in the summer transfer window.
His loan move was due to last the entirety of the season.
The 30-year-old striker has done well in Turkey, scoring eight goals and assisting four in his 16 appearances in the Super Lig.
He has become a vital part of the team this season, and Besiktas will want to keep hold of him or, as Kazanci insists, be compensated for having his loan cut short.

He said: “If Man Utd want Weghorst, they’ve to discuss first with Burnley, who will then contact us.
“If we accept, the loan will be terminated. Otherwise, it will continue until June.
“He cannot leave like this. There will have to be compensation for us.”
This will make the deal more complicated for Manchester United to complete.

Weghorst scored the winner for the Turkish outfit in their 2-1 victory over Kasimpasa on Saturday.
After scoring, the player appeared to wave goodbye to the fans amid the speculation of a move to Manchester.
And his manager Senol Gunes took this as the Netherlands international bidding farewell, but insisted that Weghorst must speak to the club about his situation.
Following the win at the weekend, the Besiktas head coach said: “Weghorst is an important player for us.
“It is not enough to say goodbye to the audience. He also needs to talk to the club. I have heard of such a development, but it is not clear.
“I’ll consider [him] leaving after I talk to both him and the club.” More
