Joao Felix’s starting Dream Team price revealed – is he the man to solve Chelsea’s problems?

TODD BOEHLY hasn’t been slow to open his chequebook since becoming co-owner of Chelsea.Having forked out significant fees for the likes of Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulbaly and others, the American businessman has now authorised a £9million outlay to acquire Joao Felix’s services for just five months.
The Blues’ confirmed the arrival of the Portugal international on loan from Atletico Madrid yesterday and Dream Team gaffers can now recruit him for £4million if they so desire.
Felix’s natural talent is undeniable but the move has prompted those who were already sceptical of Boehly’s transfer strategy to double their concerns.

At present, it’s a dysfunctional midfield and the absence of a sharp No9 that seem to be hindering Graham Potter’s side.
Felix, while an exciting addition, doesn’t really address either of those problems.
The 23-year-old plays best as a second striker where he can work off a dynamic No9 and exhibit his playmaking as well as his eye for goal.
This was evidenced recently on the grandest stage of them when he was one of Portugal’s better players in Qatar, particularly when he combined with Goncalo Ramos.
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looking lethargic, Chelsea don’t have a specialist in-form striker for Felix to bounce off from the get-go.
In fact, the Portuguese forward likes to operate in the same areas as those preferred by Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic – granted the latter pair are nursing injuries but the point is Felix is not somebody who can come in and plug a hole.
    Most read in Dream Team
While we’re on the subject, it’s worth noting that Christopher Nkunku, bound for Stamford Bridge in the summer, is also more of a second striker than an out-and-out front man.
Of course, the nature of Felix’s profile and role is a separate conversation to one regarding his potential to have a positive impact.
If he comes in and proves to be more inventive and creative than his positional arrivals then he will surely improve the Blues’ performances.
Felix played well in Qatar before Portugal’s surprise defeat to Morocco
Truth be told, Felix’s play style jars with Diego Simeone’s approach and four years on from his big-money transfer from Benfica it’s probably fair to say that Atletico has been a bad fit for him – half his La Liga appearances this term have come as a substitute.
He’s a forward who values freedom, expressionism and unpredictability while Atleti’s grizzled coach believes in hard work, identifiable structures, and plenty of dark arts.
Simeone’s approach has been justified many times over – he delivered a league title as recently as 2020/21 – but there can’t have been many attack-minded players who have enjoyed their football under his watch and there’s a sense that Felix hasn’t been utilised to his full potential..
In theory, Potter’s tactics should be more compatible with how the youngster sees the game, at least those we saw during his Brighton tenure.
The English tactician hasn’t yet implemented the same easy-on-the-eye approach in west London but he’s surely working towards a more aesthetic brand of possession – Felix will try unlock defences and won’t settle for many slow sideways passes.

Still, the Stamford Bridge faithful should be aware that their new recruit operates in the space between their two problem areas, though that’s not to say he’s an unnecessary luxury.
It will be interesting to see how Potter uses Felix, with Sterling sidelined it may be that the youngster is deployed from the left wing though he is not inclined to provide constant width.

Or Felix may be thrust straight in as a centre-forward, a role he’s occupied plenty of times in the past, but he’s not a traditional penalty box poacher so Chelsea may run into similar issues they’ve experienced when Havertz has led the line.
Either way, Dream Team bosses would probably be wise to wait and see how Felix is integrated before making a decision but he’s one to monitor at the very least. More

How Man Utd could line up against Man City with Weghorst set to feature on bench if they can complete transfer in time

MANCHESTER UNITED will be looking to stretch their winning run to NINE when they host Manchester City in a crunch derby on Saturday.Erik ten Hag’s side have been in scinscillating form since the season resumed with the Red Devils still in both cup competitions and in the top four.

Victories over Burnley, Everton and Charlton in the cups mean they’re well on course to end their seven-year wait for a trophy.
United are in the fourth round of the FA Cup, where they’ll host Reading, while they face Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
But after two consecutive cup games, it’s back to Prem action for the Red Devils this weekend.
In terms of injuries, Ten Hag will be sweating over the fitness of Diogo Dalot after the Portugal star was withdrawn after just 34 minutes against Charlton.

If he isn’t passed fit, Aaron Wan-Bissaka will make his fourth league start on the bounce.
Raphael Varane should be recalled and is likely to partner Lisandro Martinez, who finally made his first start since the World Cup in midweek, with Luke Shaw making up the backline.
In midfield, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro will start in a two, just behind Bruno Fernandes.
Moving forward, the red-hot Marcus Rashford will be out on the left and Antony should get his chance to shine after scoring against both Everton and Charlton.

That leaves Anthony Martial to start up front despite his recent struggles in front of goal.
But United will be hoping to have Wout Weghorst available and on the bench with the Dutchman set to join on loan for the rest of the season.

Weghorst has reportedly said his goodbyes at Besiktas before undergoing a medical ahead of his switch to Old Trafford.
Jadon Sancho, who hasn’t played since October, is likely to miss once again though. More

Arsenal facing Mykhailo Mudryk issues with Fifa transfer ruling causing problems as £88m Shakhtar deal is thrashed out

Mudryk, 22, is eager to join the Gunners and has even shared pictures to social media watching their recent matches.
As pointed out by the Independent, however, Shakhtar are desperate to make the most out of their top asset.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, Fifa ruled that foreign players based there could suspend their contracts and leave for nothing.
This has seen Shakhtar’s Brazilian stars Tete, Maycon, Vinicius Tobias and Vitao leave for free – costing the Ukrainian club millions in potential transfer fees.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
They could all theoretically return, but with no end to the war imminent, the situation will likely continue to drag on.
So Shakhtar will not be accepting any discounts for star man Mudryk – despite his desire to join Arsenal “as soon as possible”.

They believe that he is worth £88m, in line with huge fees paid by Manchester United and Manchester City for what they deem to be similar talents in Antony and Jack Grealish.
Arsenal have so far had two bids rejected for Mudryk, with the second worth £62m.

Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin is furious about his side’s transfer situation and has blasted Fifa.
He said: “We contacted the legal department at Fifa and said, ‘It’s very complicated, let’s work out the situation’. But they completely ignored our letter.
“No answer at all… it’s ridiculous. Its negligence of the decision-making process.
“They should consult all parties, especially the Ukrainian clubs. All the European organisations support Ukraine.
“How is it possible to behave like this?”
It’s claimed that Shakhtar want to sue Fifa for £43m for their ruling.

With only 11 goals to their name they’re in dire need of a new forward but manager Julen Lopetegui reportedly believes Antonio could be the man.
TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook has reported that Wolves would be ‘very interested’ in acquiring the Jamaican international and that Lopetegui is a ‘fan’.
Antonio has fallen out of favour with the Hammers and has only played a full 90 minutes once in the league this season.
The London club find themselves in a relegation battle with Wolves at present and would be offloading a player to an immediate rival.

Antonio isn’t the only target for Wolves with the club looking to attract other reinforcements to the Molineux during the current window.
They are rumoured to be interested in Nice midfielder Mario Lemina as well as Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

I won the title with Arsenal in 1991… and then went on to become a firefighter and save lives

DAVID HILLIER was climbing a ladder to success when he won a top-flight league winners medal with Arsenal in 1990-91, and made one appearance for the England Under-21s.A quarter of a century later the former midfielder was climbing different ladders – as one of our brave firefighters based at Avon Fire & Rescue in Bristol.
Arsenal hero David Hillier became a firefighter after quitting footballCredit: Supplied
A boyhood Arsenal fan, the aspiring midfielder was fulfilling his dreams by helping his beloved Gunners to glory in the early 90s.
Sadly, his career was blighted by injury that forced him out of the club’s FA and League Cup successes in 1993 and the Cup Winners’ Cup victory over Parma the following year.
He later joined Portsmouth (1996-99) and Bristol Rovers (1999-2002) before ending his career at Barnet with just six appearances in 2003.
Hillier told SunSport in 2019: “I never set targets when I was playing.
“I now look back at my 15 years in the game and I am very proud that I played for some great clubs at some of the world’s great stadiums alongside some of the great players.
“What is so wonderful is I still enjoy media work with Arsenal and go back and have a wonderful rapport with the club and the supporters. The football ‘family’ is brilliant for that.”

    A NEW CHAPTER
He revealed that it was his wife, Zoe, who suggested a new life in the fire brigade a couple of years after he quit playing in 2003.
He said: “We were out shopping one day and we passed a fire station and she said that it would be the perfect job for me.
“Ian Holloway – who I played alongside at Bristol Rovers – also has something to do with it. Olly’s brother-in-law was a fireman and we had met and talked about the fire brigade.
“Now he is one of the bosses in the service.
“Because of my football career I joined the brigade late and when I started it was a bit like students tutoring the teaching because everyone seemed younger than me.
“But I have never had a problem with that. I was aware of what I needed to do to progress.

“The fire brigade suits me because I’m on a two or more pump station which means 8-12 of us are involved and we spend two days and two nights away – which is like a football team staying in a hotel before a game.”
    AN ‘ADRENALINE-RUSH’
The down-to-earth London-born ex-midfield ace says the adrenaline-rush of a big job is on a completely different scale to playing football.
“It can be incredibly difficult at times and it’s a job where you have to deal with tricky and horrific scenarios.

“We are confronted with all sorts of scenes and the most frustrating part is not being able to do more.
“Being forced back by smoke and not knowing where you are going can be very claustrophobic. But, yes, I have also rescued cats out of trees too!”
Yet even after 15 years in the service, the ex-Gunner says: “It’s strange but when it comes to footballer or fireman I always think of myself as a footballer.”

Arsenal flop Nicolas Pepe got the scoring underway when he clinically swept home his seventh goal of his loan spell after 15 minutes.
Khephren Thuram doubled the lead just before the interval and then Pepe helped himself to his second thanks to a kind deflection.
Ex-Wigan striker Andy Delort, part of a treble substitution with Barkley, took just eight minutes before expertly volleying home Nice’s fourth.

The visitors made it 4-1 as the game entered the final 10 minutes before Barkley took centre stage.

Roy Keane’s incredible Nottingham Forest debut revealed after Man Utd legend ‘stamped on John Barnes after five minutes’

ROY KEANE stamped on John Barnes within five minutes of his first-team debut, former Nottingham Forest team-mate Brian Laws has revealed. The Man Utd legend, now 51, played his first senior game in the English top flight in August 1990 while under iconic manager Brian Clough.

He was selected by Cloughie for the blockbuster clash away at Liverpool – who ended up finishing runners-up that season.
But Keane’s ex-team-mate Laws, who played behind the Irishman at right-back for the duration of the match, thought it was a joke when he was first selected for the Anfield game.
Speaking to FourFourTwo about Keane – who was 19 at the time – he said: “We were playing Liverpool away, and this young kid was sitting on the bus.
“Brian Clough would regularly take kids with us to get experience. I don’t think anyone spoke to him – no one knew who he was.

“We got to Anfield and, as I thought, he was just pushing the skips into the dressing room and helping to put the kit out.
“Halfway through, he was putting the No7 shirt out when Cloughie stopped him and said, ‘Now, son, I want you to try that shirt on.’ We all started laughing, and this poor lad was embarrassed.
“He reluctantly put it on, as though he wanted to get it off as quickly as possible.
“Cloughie said, ‘You look a million dollars – you look so good, you’re playing’. We still thought it was a wind-up, but he was deadly serious.

“He said to me, ‘You look after him: he’s playing right wing’. I thought, ‘What? I’m playing against John Barnes, and now I’ve got a rookie playing in front of me?’”
Laws was keen to protect Keane on the pitch, especially given he was coming up against England international Barnes.
But the Forest defender quickly realised the teenager did not need any help – despite Liverpool coming out 2-0 victors thanks to goals from Ian Rush and Peter Beardsley.
Laws continued: “I introduced myself. I didn’t even know his name – I had to ask him. I said, ‘Look, Roy, keep it simple and I’ll try to talk you through it’.
“But within five minutes of kick-off, Roy had stamped on Barnes, taken out another player, and when John was on the floor he just went, ‘F*** off’ in his face!
“There were five minutes of me looking after Roy, then he looked after me for the rest of the game.
“He was like a rat up a drainpipe, all over the place. It can be frightening to go out there at Anfield, but he had no fear.
“He didn’t care who he was playing against: he would have a go at them. What a debut.”
Keane went on to play 154 times for Forest, scoring 33 goals.
He then joined Man Utd in 1993 where he would stay for 12 years.

He’s hasn’t started a game since lining up against his former club Arsenal in November and has scored just three goals.
And Aubameyang has looked a shadow of his former self in recent weeks, highlighted by the fact he was subbed off after being subbed on against Manchester City last week.
As a result, AS claim the 33-year-old is unhappy at Chelsea and wants to go back to Spain.
The report states that Aubameyang is so desperate that he would be willing to return to any cost.

And he’s even been in touch with manager Xavi.
But a return to the Nou Camp is only likely to happen if Barca manage to offload Memphis Depay, who’s being linked with Atletico Madrid.

Fabrizio Romano has also claimed that the La Liga leaders would “love” the idea of re-signing the striker, but only on a free and once more stated it would hinge on Depay’s future.
Barcelona are the only club that Aubameyang can sign for because he’s already played for two teams this season.
