But White still had a role to play and screamed at the wing-back to distract him from scoring.

The Tottenham goalkeeper endured another torrid afternoon yesterday, scoring a horror own goal to gift Arsenal a 1-0 lead in the North London derby after just 14 minutes.
Writing in his Mail column, Sutton blasted: “There can be no disputing Lloris has been a brilliant goalkeeper and there is a real pressure that comes with being the person between the sticks.
“But there can also be no denying he has turned into a liability.
“The rap sheet is so long that you can go on YouTube and find a video called ‘Hugo Lloris worst mistakes’, and then you can watch ‘Part Two’.

“This history of howlers is why, when he bundled Bukayo Saka’s cross into his own goal yesterday, it was not surprising. It was completely in character.”
Lloris, 36, has now made four errors leading to goals in the Prem this season – double the tally of the league’s next worst offender.
He dropped a clanger in Spurs’ last defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates in September, when he gifted Gabriel Jesus a goal.
The Frenchman also made a costly error against Newcastle after flying off his line only for Callum Wilson to score, while he spilled Douglas Luiz’s shot straight to Emi Buendia during the recent defeat to Aston Villa.

Lloris, a 145-cap France World Cup winner, has been a phenomenal servant to Spurs – making 440 appearances since joining in 2012, the majority of which have come as club captain.
But the social media consensus seems to be that his time at the top is coming to an end.
One fan account wrote: “It’s time to drop Lloris, we can’t go on like this.
“If he was good in build-up you might offer him some leeway but he’s f***ing terrible.”
A second fumed: “How many times Lloris, honestly how many times.”
Another added: “Been watching stuff like that from Lloris for the best part of three years.”
After his recent international retirement, one fan fumed: “Lloris you can retire from all football now.”

The move will see Danilo team up with his former Palmeiras teammate, and new Forest fans’ favourite, Gustavo Scarpa at the City Ground.
He will become Forest’s 24th signing since they gained promotion to the Premier League in the summer.
The youngster has attracted interest from Europe’s big hitters since he inspired Palmeiras to win back-to-back Copa Libertadores titles in 2020 and 2021.
Forest will now turn their attention to trying to pull off their biggest statement signing of all, Roma’s Italian international forward Nicolo Zaniolo.

The 23-year-old has struggled at Jose Mourinho’s Europa Conference League winners lately, following an injury hit season.
But Cooper is hopeful he can beat Spurs boss Antonio Conte to land the hugely talented former Inter Milan frontman, who has 11 caps for Italy and would cost around  £27m.
The attacker arrived from Inter in 2018 and has gone on to make almost 100 Serie A appearances since.
However, his status with Mourinho’s side is under huge scrutiny after he was recently jeered by his own supporters.

Zaniolo is under contract at the Stadio Olimpico until 2024.
Talks have already taken place over an extension, but there has been “no progress” during the negotiations.
And his performances and general attitude of late has allegedly “irritated” Roma’s top brass.
He was originally valued at around £44m by Roma, but with his contract dwindling, that is said to have dropped significantly.
Zaniolo, whose goal clinched the Europa Conference League crown last season, has scored two and provided three assists in his 17 appearances this term. More

His standout moment of the campaign came last Thursday when he shone for Betis against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals.

ABC Sevilla are now claiming that both United boss Erik ten Hag and Gunners manager Mikel Arteta have been monitoring his performances.

Gary Neville claims table-topping Arsenal WON’T win Prem despite Tottenham win… and Man Utd will beat them to second

GARY NEVILLE claims that Arsenal WON’T win the Premier League this season… despite going EIGHT points clear. The Gunners extended their advantage at the top of the table by beating rivals Tottenham 2-0 yesterday.

Their victory, coupled with Manchester City’s defeat at Man United on Saturday, puts them in a commanding position to win their first title since 2004.
But Neville, 47, even reckons that the Red Devils, currently nine points off the pace, will catch Arsenal.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “They won’t win the league. Manchester City will win the league, and I think Man Utd will finish second, and I know that will annoy Arsenal fans!
“I’d rather Arsenal win the league than Man City. I think it would be absolutely sensational for the Premier League.

“I think about watching the Premier League, we’ve seen City sweep up, apart from Liverpool, over the past five years.
“To think Arsenal could come and win it, it adds to our league, it makes our league great.
“I’d love Man Utd to win it, but I don’t think that’s going to happen this season.”
Explaining his reasoning, Neville pointed to City’s star striker.

He continued: “The reality of it is, I think at some point Man City will hit a run. Once they do, they’ve got to play Arsenal twice.
“If Erling Haaland starts to kick on, if City start to purr, if the defence starts to shore up a bit more than it has done, and they need Ruben Dias back if they can, I think City will win it.

“At some point, there will be a very difficult period for Arsenal this season.
“Is it conceivable that Arsenal are going to continue as they are? I don’t think it is.
“Could they draw two and lose one in a three-game period, and if they did that, their lead is gone, and the pack is up with them?
“That’s what I think is going to happen, we’ll see a traditional Premier League season where a team goes out, the pacemaker, and then they’ll get drawn back in a little bit.”
Despite his reservations over the credibility of Arsenal’s title credentials, Neville heaped praise onto their boss Mikel Arteta.
He added: “It’s so difficult for young managers to break that [Antonio] Conte, [Jurgen] Klopp, [Carlo] Ancelotti, [Pep] Guardiola, [Jose] Mourinho mould and become one of those super managers. You can’t break them.
“If Arteta wins the league this season, he breaks into that bunch. He’s doing it anyway, because his football is fantastic. But he needs to win that trophy.

‘Everything is possible’ – Man Utd defender Varane talks up title chances after Ten Hag’s side’s stunning derby triumph

RAPHAEL VARANE reckons “everything is possible” for Manchester United as they roared into title contention with their derby victory. The Red Devils’ incredible 2-1 comeback win at Old Trafford on Saturday made it five league wins on the bounce to move just a point behind second-placed Manchester City.
Raphael Varane insists Man Utd’s title charge is not just a dreamCredit: Getty
Now talk of a tilt at top spot in the second half of the season is no longer just a dream — even though the gap to leaders Arsenal is nine points.
Defender Varane insisted: “Everything is possible. We’ll just take it game by game. It’s a long way to go and it’s very difficult.
“The intensity of every game is incredible, the physical effort. It’s like the same intensity of a big Champions League game. The rhythm is very high.
“But the players are very well prepared physically. We know how difficult it is. But we’re solid, we’re strong. We just need to use the quality players with the ball.”

United celebrated wildly at the final whistle after late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford saw off the champions.
And Varane was in the thick of it, leading the fist-pumping cheers in front of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand.
The France World Cup winner, 29, said: “It was special. It’s a stadium with a magnificent atmosphere. At the end, I felt a connection with the fans.
“To do that against a big rival, in our home . . . we live stronger with this. It was beautiful.”

Varane hailed the tactical approach of boss Erik ten Hag as City were allowed 71 per cent possession but only one effort on target — Jack Grealish’s opener — their lowest in the Premier League this season.
Centre-back Varane said: “We prepared so well tactically for this game with the Mister (the manager). We spoke a lot with him, we knew exactly what we wanted to do.
“We know City press, they have a lot of the ball. So we chose when to press and where to close the spaces.
“We knew where to hurt them and we have players up front who are very fast. We had to use our fast players.
“After the first goal, we didn’t let our heads drop, even though we conceded a goal in our home. But we also knew that we had the energy of the fans.
“We continued to follow our plan. Then we scored and that changed the whole game.”
United looked a different team to the one trounced 6-3 at the Etihad on October 2 — and Varane puts that down to more time working with the manager, who only joined this summer.
He said: “We know better now what the Mister wants and how he wants to do it.
“We’ve seen the evolution in this team. It was a complete game at a high level.” More
