Watch Man Utd star Wan-Bissaka make ‘tackle of the season’ to deny Crystal Palace star Zaha last-minute winner

AARON WAN-BISSAKA made a vital last ditch challenge that many are calling the ‘tackle of the season’ during Manchester United’s draw with Crystal Palace. The right-back dispossessed his former teammate Wilfried Zaha who was seemingly through on goal by sliding in and hooking the ball away from the Ivory Coast international’s feet.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka slid in cleanly getting the ball off Wilfried Zaha and preventing Crystal Palace grabbing a late winner
Zaha tumbled to the ground following the tackle as he lost his footing trying to get past the United defender
Wan-Bissaka’s sliding denial of Zaha came with the scores level and less than 20 seconds left to play, making it even more impressive that he prevented the Eagles snatching all three points.
Fans have been reacting to the 25-year-old’s tackle and praising the skill level shown.
One fan commented: “Miss that and it’s a red card and a penalty. Truly the tackle of the season.”
Another said: “Tackle of the season so far from Wan-Bissaka.”

A third wrote: “Definitely no one can doubt he’s the best RB in the league.”
It wasn’t just fans that were impressed either, Zaha himself had his say on the Man United man’s challenge.
He said: “Any other player [and we could’ve won it at the end]. As I’m running through I had a look back, a little look back, and I thought oh my god it’s Aaron [Wan-Bissaka].
“He’s the only one that can do the scoop tackle. It was a great tackle and I can’t say anything else about it.”

Zaha and Wan-Bissaka played together at Crystal Palace before the full back made his move to Old Trafford.
During his time at Selhurst Park, the defender was nicknamed ‘The Spider’ because of his ability to use his long legs to hook the ball away from the opposition.
Michael Olise’s stunning late free kick saw an end to Manchester United’s nine game winning streak with the game ending all square at 1-1.
The Red Devil’s face league leaders Arsenal next on Sunday, but will be without star man Casemiro after he was suspended for racking up too many yellow cards. More

Erik ten Hag blasts Man Utd stars for failing to find killer second goal as title hopes suffer blow at Crystal Palace

ERIK TEN HAG blasted his Manchester United side for throwing away two points by failing to find a killer second goal against Crystal Palace.Bruno Fernandes had put the Red Devils on course for 10 wins in a row with a clinical finish just before the break.
Erik ten Hag watched two potentially crucial points slip from United’s grasp in south LondonCredit: Rex
But Michael Olise’s wonder free-kick in the 91st minute saw the victory slip through their grasp – leaving them eight points off league-leaders Arsenal having played a game more.
And to make matters worse, Casemiro’s yellow card for a rash challenge on Wilfried Zaha means the Brazilian midfielder is suspended for Sunday’s titanic trip to the Emirates.
Ten Hag grumbled: “We dropped two points. When you’re winning with two minutes to go…
“We have to invest more to get that second goal and then not be in that situation that a lucky moment costs you two points.

“We were 1-0 up. In the second half we had a lot of space to kill them and go for the second. I never saw we really went for the second goal.
“It’s difficult to say (why). I have to criticise my team. Go for the second.”
United were denied a penalty when sub Scott McTominay was felled by Chris Richards, but Ten Hag refused to criticise referee Robert Jones or VAR who did not give it.
Casemiro will now have to sit out what could be the game of the season this weekend.

But Ten Hag pointed to September’s 3-1 win over the Gunners at Old Trafford – Arsenal’s only league defeat of the season – which was achieved without the Brazilian.
Ten Hag added: “He’s a really important player for us and a reason we’re in this position. But last time we beat Arsenal without Casemiro. We need to do it again.”
Palace could have won it at the death when Wilfried Zaha raced through but he was denied by a stunning last-ditch tackle by old team-mate Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Zaha said: “It had to be him! As I ran through, I had a little look back and I saw it was Aaron and I knew. He is the only player who can do those scoop tackles from behind.”
Patrick Vieira added: “If it was a different player (than Wan-Bissaka) he wouldn’t catch him.
“That was a tough game against a good side. We needed luck to stay in the game, but we provoked that luck.”
On Olise’s magical moment, the Palace boss added: “It was a fantastic free-kick. You guys can talk about the free-kick and I will look at the other side.
“He is improving his tactical game out of possession. It’s something that is really important for me.”

Pep Guardiola admits even he fears the sack as he accepts blame for Man City’s mini-slump – but knows how to fix it

PEP GUARDIOLA says he is to blame for Manchester City’s mini-slump — but claims he knows how to fix it.The Premier League champ-ions have lost back-to-back matches — and the Etihad boss is aware there will be calls for ‘Pep out’ if that run continues.

Guardiola hopes it will be ‘Pep in’ having signed a two-year contract extension during the World Cup break.
But ahead of tonight’s home clash with Tottenham, he admits the heat is on.
The Spaniard said: “People expect us to perform well and try to find the wins otherwise, it’s ‘Pep out’.
“So this is how our job is. And I want ‘Pep in’. I want to stay here.

“That is what I want and to do that I have to win games. I have to be there and there and there in all the competitions.”
Several theories have been put forward for City’s defeats at Southampton and Manchester United — the former in the Carabao Cup quarter-final and the latter in the league — in the last two matches.
But Guardiola said: “I am the man responsible.
“When the players don’t play good and they have the desire to do it, it’s because there is something wrong in my decisions.

“So I have to find out why, because here people don’t wait, people don’t live for our memories of how good we were in the last part.”
The ex-Barcelona coach says that he relishes these kind of challenges, though, and believes he already knows the reason why they have lost their way.
He added: “I prefer to be eight points in front but I like to handle this situation — I love it.
“I’m less stressed when I feel there is no solution or I don’t know what’s happened but always I have the feeling I know the reason why it doesn’t work.
“But the fact I think I know what we have to do doesn’t mean it is going to happen.”
People expect us to perform well and try to find the wins otherwise, it’s ‘Pep out’. So this is how our job is. And I want ‘Pep in’. I want to stay here.Pep Guardiola
As well as being eight points behind top-flight leaders Arsenal, City are also in a fight for second place with Manchester United and Newcastle.
In fact, Guardiola has warned his players they are in a fight for the top four after 12 straight years of qualifying for the Champions League.
Spurs — who have lost just one of their last six league games against City and won 3-2 at the Etihad last season — could go within three points of the reigning champs by winning in Manchester tonight.
Guardiola said: “Every year it is like this — it is always difficult. I’ve said it many times, I always congratulate ourselves and the team when we finish in the top four.
“People say, ‘Oh it’s false, this guy is false’ but they are wrong. I always give a lot of credit when we qualify.”

But things turned sour for United late on.
Firstly, Casemiro picked up his fifth booking of the season after bringing down Wilfried Zaha, which rules him out of Sunday’s trip to Arsenal.
And Erik ten Hag’s side then suffered a second late blow when Michael Olise’ last-gasp free-kick rescued a point.
Piers took to Twitter in response to Palace’s goal and tagged Ferdinand in a tweet.

The pair have been arguing this week about who’s better between the Casemiro and Thomas Partey ahead of the clash at the Emirates.
Ferdinand said: “In terms of who’s more important to their team, you can argue for both sides.
“But when you throw the stats in, Casemiro wipes the floor with him.
“I don’t think Partey is good enough defensively to do what Casemiro is doing. I don’t think he has the impact to do defensively what Casemiro is doing for Man United.”

Piers responded on Twitter: “Hi @rioferdy5 if you genuinely think Partey isn’t as good as Casemiro then you’re in for a nasty shock on Sunday when he bullies your guy into submission and I get this trending again… #Tears4Rio”
And the SunSport columnist once again hit out at the ex-United defender moments after the full-time whistle.
He said: “So, Casemiro got himself suspended for Sunday’s big match against Arsenal, and then missed an absolute sitter at the end to cost Utd victory. Better than Partey? Methinks not.. cc @rioferdy5.”
It was a poor night all round for United, who dropped two crucial points in their pursuit of Arsenal at the top.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte ‘reflecting on his future’ after tragic deaths of three close friends including Vialli

ANTONIO CONTE has always taken pride in living to work. But his traumatic last few months have made him realise that there is more to life than his job.

The Tottenham manager has suffered three tragedies to close friends.
Gian Piero Ventrone, Spurs’ beloved fitness coach, passed away in October from leukaemia at the age of 61.
Serie A legend and great friend Sinisa Mihajlovic succumbed to the same dreadful disease last month, aged just 53.
Conte was then mourning the loss of Gianluca Vialli, his team-mate for Juventus and Italy, along with the rest of the footballing world when the Chelsea hero died of pancreatic cancer a fortnight ago.

The Spurs boss, 53, said: “This season is a difficult season from a personal aspect.
“To lose in such a short time three people that I knew very well, Gian Piero Ventrone, then Sinisa and now Gianluca, it was not simple.
“For sure, when this situation happens it brings you to have important reflections.
“Because many times we give a lot of importance to our work and we forget the family, we forget that we need to have more time for us.

“This season is making me have an important reflection on my future.”
With his 15-year-old daughter at a key age regarding her education, Conte and his wife have decided it is better for them to continue to live in Italy while he is over in England.
It makes sense given the “here today, gone tomorrow” nature of football management — but it means he has spent a lot of time alone during these difficult few months.
While his assistant Cristian Stellini revealed earlier this month that Conte is not one to talk about his feelings with his staff, that he is a “strong man”, so the Spurs boss will have been carrying all that pain alone.
And it does seem to have given him a new perspective on what is important.
Conte explained: “When work is at the top of your mind, maybe we forget to stay with the family, we forget to spend time with friends.
“But this is our passion and for the passion we lost a lot of things.
“When this situation happens, you start to think maybe sometimes it is also good to give more time to your family and friends and yourself.
“The work is not everything in life.”
Conte’s difficult period has not been helped by his team struggling. Spurs are through to the last 16 of the Champions League and still in the hunt for the Premier League top four.
But results have been poor of late, with three defeats in their last six league games.
Some fans are starting to get frustrated, while others are unconvinced Conte’s heart is really in it given his contract expires in the summer and he is yet to commit to fresh terms.
Asked how it feels to hear that his commitment is being questioned, particularly given what he has been through personally, Conte replied: “I don’t read and I don’t hear this but the people who know me can tell me that I could be not a good coach.
“But about the commitment and what I give the club where I work, no club was unhappy about this.
“Usually when I left the club they regret me a lot because they knew the way I work and the commitment I put into the club.”
The former Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan chief even hinted that Spurs are keen for him to stay longer because of his tireless work ethic. He said: “I give everything for the club. Not only for Tottenham — for Inter, for Juventus, for every club where I was the coach.
“It is normal that when I finish the day I am tired because I work a lot for the club. And for this reason the club want me to stay for a long period.”
It does not get any easier for Spurs as they go to Manchester City tonight, facing what Conte reckons is “the best team in the world”.
Tottenham can take heart from their 3-2 win at the Etihad last term, when Harry Kane scored twice.
Spurs go into the game as underdogs, which may help given they have struggled with the pressure of being favourites in recent weeks.
Yet Conte said: “If my team is going to play with a team at the bottom of the table or in first, I put the same pressure — because for me the pressure is a positive.

“The pressure allows me to give 100 per cent. If I’m relaxed and I don’t have energy, it’s not a good signal for myself.”
