Arsenal ‘keen on shock Jaidon Anthony transfer from Bournemouth but face competition from Leicester and Bundesliga duo’

ARSENAL are reportedly interested in Bournemouth’s Jaidon Anthony as they look to further bolster their squad. The Gunners are already on the verge of signing Brighton winger Leandro Trossard in a £27m deal.

The 28-year-old Belgian World Cup ace is expected to be confirmed as their player within 24 hours after passing medical and agreeing personal terms with the Premier League leaders.
Now the Daily Mail claims that they are looking to bring Anthony back to the Emirates as well before the transfer window closes.
The 23-year-old spent a decade in the North London club’s academy before heading to Bournemouth in 2016.
He was outstanding during last season’s promotion campaign campaign but has struggled for match action in the top-flight his term.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
After eight goals and seven assists in the Championship, he has been restricted to just four starts in the league so far this campaign.
Anthony’s contract also expires in June, meaning that the Cherries could be tempted to cash in on him now rather than risk losing him for nothing.
And the Gunners are seemingly ready to swoop with this report stating that “his age and previous academy experience” with Arsenal makes them believe that he would be “a shrewd addition with potential for long-term growth”.
But they face competition from a host of clubs from both home and abroad.

Leicester City are also monitoring Anthony’s situation as they weigh-up a move to help bolster their survival chances.
Bundesliga clubs Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen are also keen.
Gladbach are looking for a potential replacement for Chelsea transfer target Marcus Thuram.
Meanwhile Leverkusen want someone to fill the void that will be left when on-loan Callum Hudson-Odoi returns to Stamford Bridge.
Bournemouth will be loath to lose the starlet this month after slipping to 17th, a point above the drop zone, following a six-match losing run. More

Brighton will inevitably agree transfer for Caicedo to a top team, he’s complete midfield star and cost them just £5m

AT THE heart of Brighton’s destruction of Liverpool last Saturday was Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo.  The zone of the field where Jurgen Klopp’s team used to steam roll their opponents belonged to the Brighton No 25.
Moises Caicedo dominated midfield against Liverpool
Caicedo interrupted Liverpool’s moves with his tackling and positional skills, kept the side knitted together with his passing – he is a master of finding clever and interesting angles to deliver the ball – and drove the team forward with his lung power.
He looked the complete package – a central midfielder shining brightly in Brighton’s splendid campaign who will make the club a fortune when they – inevitably – sell him on to someone bigger.
Especially as the reported fee that Brighton paid for Moises Caicedo was £5 million.
Now Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay up to £65m to bring Caicedo to Stamford Bridge.
    Read more transfer news
It is astonishing to think that a player of this quality and potential could have been picked up for such a tiny sum – even more remarkable given the fact that he was already a vital member of the Ecuador team flying through World Cup qualification when Brighton picked him up.
They were not just taking a punt on potential.  He was already a reality.
Why, then, did he end up at Brighton?
    Manchester United were interested.

They were put off, though, by the complexity of the deal and the number of agents involved.
    Here, Brighton had an advantage.
They already had relations with Caicedo’s club, the extraordinary Independiente del Valle, a tiny club based just outside the Ecuadorian capital of Quito.
Independiente del Valle were taken over a few years ago by businessmen who have taken very seriously the mission of developing players and selling them on.
Moises Caicedo has been a key man for Brighton

Jefferson Montero, the winger who had some good days with Swansea, was one of their early successes.
Brighton had taken a gamble on Billy Arce, an attacking midfielder who always looked too lightweight for the Premier League.
That move was not a success.  But it put Brighton in pole position to sign Caicedo.  For just £5 million.
The fee was so small because the player was coming out of Ecuador.
Had he been from Brazil, then much more money would have changed hands.
Chelsea, for example, paid more than twice that amount to acquire Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama, a central midfielder who has yet to play a game in Brazil’s first division.
Andrey Santos will be in action later this week in the South American Under-20 Championships, which kick off in Colombia on Thursday.
Usually held every two years, the 2021 version was called off because of the pandemic.
The reigning champions, from the 2019 version are Ecuador, who went on to come third in that year’s World Cup at the level, producing a number of players for the senior World Cup squad in Qatar.

That Ecuador squad in 2019 was full of players from Independiente del Valle – and so is this one four years later.
The club have a remarkable recent record of producing talent, and European scouts are paying plenty of attention.
And now that Caicedo has proved such a success, then the transfer fees are likely to be higher.

The risk factor of coming straight out of Ecuador has been reduced.
If there is a Moises Caicedo on show, interested clubs will surely have to go much higher than £5 million. More

Pep Guardiola blasts ‘lucky’ Man City and slams Etihad boo-boys in Spurs win before admitting: I don’t recognise my team

PEP GUARDIOLA TURNED on his players and fans despite a dramatic 4-2 comeback victory over Spurs. The Manchester City boss believes his team have gone soft after winning four of the last five titles and said he needs his home support back as well.
The reigning champions got their title bid back on track following a 4-2 comeback victory against Tottenham, mainly thanks to a 12-minute blitz after the break.
Pep Guardiola launched an angry attack on Manchester City fans and playersCredit: Reuters
But City were staring down the barrel at a fourth defeat in 10 Premier League games at half-time.
That’s because Dejan Kulusevski and Emerson Royal struck at the end of the opening period to put Spurs 2-0 ahead.
    And City were booed off.
    READ MORE FOOTBALL NEWS
But whatever Guardiola said in the dressing room worked as his side turned the game around instantly thanks to goals from Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland and Riyad Mahrez.
The Algeria star then made the points safe late on after a deft chip over Hugo Lloris.
Asked what his team were lacking Guardiola said: “Guts, passion, fire, desire to win from minute one. The same with our fans, they are silent for 45 minutes.
“We are far away from the team that we were. Not in terms of play, we played good in the first half, but here are many things in terms of competitiveness and what we have to do that we are far away.
    Most read in Football
“We have to do it but everyone is relaxed. In the Premier League, no way.
“We have an opponent in Arsenal who have the fire. Two decades without winning the Premier League and every player knows they will be in history, like we felt when we won the first Premier League and broke all the records and went two times back-to-back.
“We have to have the fire inside. I am explaining the reality, everything is so comfortable, but opponents don’t wait.
“I don’t recognise my team, they (previously) had the passion and desire to run.”
City cut the gap at the top to Arsenal to five points with the win.
But Guardiola said: “We are far away from the team we had in previous seasons.
“Do you think this comeback will happen every time? It won’t. Do you think we are going to chase the gap to Arsenal the way we are playing? No way.
“I want a reaction from the players and staff. I do not want to be a ‘happy flowers team’.
“I want to beat Arsenal but if we play that way Arsenal will beat us.”
The Manchester City boss watched his team go two behind right on half-time through Dejan Kulusevski and Emerson Royal and were booed off at half-time.
Guardiola said: “They booed because we were losing but not because we played bad – we played good. Maybe it’s like our team.
“Maybe they are so comfortable winning four Premier Leagues in five years. And after we scored they react, but that is not the point.
“I want my fans back. My fans in here. Not my away fans, my away fans are the best.
“My fans here to support every corner, every action because we cannot expect. Tottenham is one of the toughest opponents I’ve ever faced.
So we could not expect to be 3-0 up after 30 minutes.”
City roared back through Julian Alvarez on 51 minutes, Erling Haaland two minutes later and then a brace from Riyah Mahrez in the 63rd and 90th minutes.
The result increased the pressure on Spurs boss Antonio Conte who has now seen his side lose three of their last four Premier League games.
Conte said: “We played a good game with personality, we put a lot of pressure on them. At the same time I’m disappointed because this is the first time in my career that my team conceded four goals in one half.

“When I tell you that we have to try to reduce the gap, the process has just started and it means that you have to improve tactically, technically the experience of this team.
“We conceded a goal in the second half then another after two minutes.
“Usually when this happens, you have to be calm and to find solutions to pass ten minutes and breathe and then play. We conceded the second goal quickly.
“We were unlucky because after 2-2 we had a massive chance to score to go up. Instead we conceded another two goals.
“We need patience and we need time to create something important. On one side I’m really disappointed because we concede four goals.
    Read More on The Sun
“We are conceding many more goals than last season. On the other side, with more attention and focus we are good because we played with personality and we created problems for Manchester City.
“These games are important to understand the difference between us and other top clubs. In this moment, we have a lot of difference but we are ready to continue to work and fight.” More

Declan Rice is guaranteed to leave West Ham… and Arsenal and Man Utd are his most logical transfer destinations

DECLAN RICE has a massive decision to make this summer — and it does not involve  staying at West Ham.Every team in Europe is keen to sign the future England captain at the end of the season, although very few can afford him.
Manchester United and Arsenal both want to sign Declan Rice this summerCredit: Rex
But even the handful of clubs who can meet the Hammers’ demands will present a dilemma for Rice as he  considers all his options.
Because how do you choose when you have got Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester City all queueing at your door?
The fact that West Ham still have an option to extend his contract to 2025 is immaterial.
Whether they stay in the Premier League or not, they know their best player is leaving. Rice virtually confirmed that last month when he said that he is  desperate to play in the Champions League.
    READ MORE TRANSFER NEWS
Because that ain’t going to happen at West Ham any time in the foreseeable future.
That’s why he has already rejected an offer of a new EIGHT-YEAR contract from the club who would happily make him their highest paid player in the blink of an eye.
There are about a dozen players at the London Stadium currently earning more than Rice, including left-back Emerson Palmieri, Ivory Coast winger Max Cornet and reserve keeper Alphonse Areola.
But that’s often the case with players who have graduated through the academy rather than signing on big money from another club.
    Most read in Football

Yet it’s not about the money for Rice. It’s about competing at the very highest level and squeezing every last drop from his career.
He will have seen how his 29-year-old England team-mate Harry Kane — who signed for Tottenham way back in 2011 — is still waiting to win his first major trophy at the club after committing himself to a lucrative long-term contract five years ago.
And he is not going to make the same mistake with West Ham.
He will also have noted how his pal Jack Grealish, 27, gave up being a big fish in a small pond at Aston Villa to win the Premier League in his very first season with Manchester City.
So now it is simply a question of which club can offer him the best opportunity to maximise his talent  during the peak years of his career.
Having just turned 24, he has the potential to become one of the best defensive midfield players in the world over the next decade.
It was only last April that David Moyes said that West Ham would not consider selling their captain for less than £150million.
But now the consensus is that he could go for little more than half that amount, particularly if the Hammers are relegated to the Championship.
Yet with so many serious clubs  wanting his services, there’s plenty of potential for a bidding war taking that fee to British record levels.
Chelsea, despite having released Rice from their academy at 14, would have no shame in breaking the bank to bring him back.
But, like Liverpool, there’s every chance that they won’t be able to offer him Champions League football next season, even though the two are the last English clubs to win it.
City only play with one holding midfielder and already have Rodri and Kalvin Phillips on their books.
Newcastle are clearly an emerging force and have the resources to outbid anyone if they can secure a top-four finish this season.
But it’s Arsenal or Erik ten Hag’s United who offer the most logical career path for Rice and, with both clubs apparently on the up, it could be a straight shootout between the resurgent giants this summer.
Either way, West Ham fans should make the most of their best player while they still can.
    UTD MAY SMELL RAT
MANCHESTER UNITED fans are understandably excited by the news that ‘Britain’s richest man’ is trying to buy the club from the Glazers.
The fact that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been living abroad as a tax exile is not going to curb their enthusiasm.
Yet financial experts have calculated his personal fortune at £6billion — and the Glazers want at least £5bn.
That does not leave a lot of spare cash for someone who clearly hates the idea of frittering his money on such avoidable expenses as income tax.
And after he lost out in the bidding for Chelsea last spring, United should not hold their breath waiting for the takeover.
    GONE POTTY
CHELSEA manager Graham Potter says they cannot keep trying to spend their way out of trouble or else they will end up with a 30-man squad.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Graham, but the matchday programme for last week’s game against Crystal Palace already listed 33 Blues players.
And that did not even include the club’s £88million new-boy Mykhailo Mudryk.
Potter joked he hopes he is still in a job when Mudryk’s remarkable new contract finally expires in 8½ years.
Good luck with that. Me? I just hope I am still alive in 2031.
    REFFING MAD
BRITAIN’S top referees have been tying themselves in knots trying to justify Manchester United’s equaliser against neighbours City last week.
But they’re defending the indefensible because anyone who knows anything about football could see Marcus Rashford was offside and the goal should never have stood.
And if the laws of the game say differently because he wasn’t interfering with play, then the law is an ass.
    RAMS-FAIL
SPURS are threatening to issue a lifetime ban to the supporter who kicked Aaron Ramsdale during Sunday’s 2-0 home defeat by Arsenal.
More than 500 season ticket holders have already claimed responsibility.
    BLATT TO THE FUTURE
FIFA have claimed five billion people ‘engaged’ with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
    What does that even mean?
But then very little coming out of world football’s governing body makes sense any more.
According to reports, TV companies covering the winter finals were ordered to show at least one shot of Fifa president Gianni Infantino at every match.
But they weren’t allowed to film him on his phone, nor below knee height when he was sitting next to any of his dodgy dictator mates in the plush stadiums out in the desert.
Come back Sepp Blatter, all is (almost) forgiven.

TENNIS star Emma Raducanu has defended her commitment to the sport by declaring: “I give 200 per cent in everything I do.”

Firstly, Ederson’s poor pass was punished by Dejan Kulusevski, who scored his second goal in as many trips to City.
Spurs were in dreamland moments later when Ederson could only parry Harry Kane’s strike into the path of Emerson Royal.
And the Brazil international did the rest by heading into the open net.
But City staged a stunning second half comeback to close the gap on leaders Arsenal at the top.

Man City 4 Tottenham 2: City in epic fightback after being booed off 2-0 down at halftime to dent Arsenal title hopes

WHAT did Pep Guardiola say to his team at half time to inspire this sensational comeback?Maybe it was “lads – it’s Tottenham” as Alex Ferguson once famously said across town at Old Trafford.

Erling Haaland got back on the scoresheet after a two game droughtCredit: Getty
Here’s how the game played out according to the numbers
Whatever it was, it breathed new life into Manchester City’s title challenge – just as they looked to be out for the count.
City were two goals down and Guardiola was facing the prospect of losing three games in a row for only the third time in his managerial career.
Yet in 12 crazy minutes, they struck three times with Riyad Mahrez at the heart of all three of them.
Erling Haaland’s 333 minute ‘goal drought’ is over too – after he headed home the equaliser.
All in all it was a clear message to Arsenal that the champions are not giving up their crown without a fight.
As the gleeful Etihad faithful sang at the end – That’s why they’re champions.
Guardiola took a major gamble in his bid to get his team firing again after back-to-back losses to Southampton and Manchester United.
He left out Kevin de Bruyne – for so long the team’s talisman – as the Belgian took his place among a host of star names on the bench.
    Most read in Football
City had won only one of their last six league meetings with Spurs but began brightly enough.
A trademark move ended with Jack Grealish pulling a ball back for Julian Alvarez – whose shot was well blocked by Eric Dier.
And Cristian Romero – who had already been booked – had to time his last ditch tackle on Grealish perfectly as he chased a ball from Rico Lewis – and fortunately he did.
City had been making most of the running but a warning came when a Ben Davies cross was met by Son Heung-Min but the Korean’s header did not have the pace to beat Ederson.
Most of the action was at the other end as a shot from Lewis clipped the heels of Son and forced a smart save out of Hugo Lloris.
A sweeping pass from Nathan Ake sent Haaland clear but for once he did not look convincing and Lloris did well to narrow the angle.
Then another chance came his way when Rodri clipped a ball into the middle but the former Borussia Dortmund forward could not keep his header down.
It was shaping up to be another below par first half show from Spurs when the game turned in their favour right on half-time and it was all of City’s own making.

But a superb Mahrez performance ensured Tottenham left with nothing
Mahrez rounded out the match with a superb chipCredit: EPA
Ederson rolled out a classic ‘hospital pass’ to Rodri on the edge of his own box and the Spaniard was beaten to it by Rodrigo Bentancur.
He rolled it into the path of Dejan Kulusevski who had time to compose himself and roll the ball home.
The Swede scored here last year too and will not get many easier ones than that.
Guardiola was on his knees in the technical area and could barely believe his eyes – yet somehow it got worse for his team.
Harry Kane somehow wriggled past Rodri on the right hand side and thumped in a cross shot which Ederson could only parry.
It landed perfectly on the head of Emerson Royal who nodded into the empty net with the minimum of fuss.
The Etihad was stunned and City were booed off seconds later when the half-time whistle blew – that’s not happened very often in recent years.
You can only imagine some choice words were said in the dressing room at half-time as City were a different proposition after the break.
Within seven minutes they were back in it as Mahrez stood up a cross in the direction of Grealish and the home side failed to clear.
It dropped nicely for Alvarez who steered the ball home for his first goal since he became a World Cup winner.
Mahrez and Co celebrate during their comeback against SpursCredit: Reuters
Rodri was at the heart of City’s engine room throughout
Spurs enjoyed flashes of dominance but were ultimately second best
It was very much game on and two minutes later it was all square.
Rodri lifted a pass into the area and Mahrez headed back across goal for Haaland to nod in number 28 of this remarkable first season in English football.
Spurs could have gone under but credit to them for hanging in there.
They could have gone back in front too as Kulusevski’s low cross found Ivan Perisic at the back post but Lewis got a block in and somehow deflected it onto the post.
What a game the youngster was having.
And what a moment that turned out to be as just after the hour, City had completed the turnaround.
Rodri sprayed a pass out to Mahrez on the right and he turned brilliantly past Perisic.
The Algerian weaved in fired a low shot which took a nick off Davies before beating Lloris at his near post.
