The Reds have lost their last two league games and were outplayed by Brighton last weekend, but they did beat Wolves in the FA Cup on Tuesday.
And they still possess some of the best players in the league, despite the injury to Virgil van Dijk.
Chelsea have also been hit by an injury crisis with Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Wesley Fofana and N’Golo Kante all long-term absentees.
Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic have also picked up injuries in recent weeks, while Dennis Zakaria limped out of the recent clash at Fulham and will be out for a month.

January signing Joao Felix serves the second of his three-match ban and that means Liverpool dominate SunSport’s combined line-up of available players.
Alisson gets the nod in goal ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga, with Edouard Mendy also recovering from injury.
Three Liverpool players make up the defence with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson featuring at full-back.
Thiago Silva is the only Blue in the backline alongside Ibrahima Konate, and Mateo Kovacic is the only Chelsea midfielder to make the cut.

Legendary Premier League managers look unrecognisable as young stars in amazing Panini sticker pictures

THESE Premier League managers look completely unrecognisable from their youthful days adorning Panini stickers. Most had a full head of hair – but as the decades passed their luscious locks got thinner or simply disappeared.

Italian model-worthy and also happens to be a prem-winning managerCredit: Panini
Why so serious? The long ginger hair didn’t lastCredit: Panini
A tash was fashionable at the time… not so much now
A Dutchman in charge of one of England’s most successful clubs, rocked a windswept quiff on his head during his days at FC Twente.
While another, who managed at the top of football at both club and international level, had mesmerisingly curly hair.
A dashing Italian also looks unrecognisable from a throwback of a Panini sticker.
He pulled off one of the biggest shocks in Premier League history when he took a previously relegation-threatened team to champions status.

Very few could imagine this serious-looking former Prem manager with flowing ginger hair – but “anything is possible”, some say.
And a certain German looked tash-tastic playing for Mainz in Germany.
He turned out to be a world class manager in the end.
So have you been able to guess who these now top managers are?

    Erik ten Hag
Yes, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag had a full head of hair.
The Dutchman was a defender in his playing days and racked up more than 300 appearances in the Dutch leagues.
Ten Hag, now bald with a gorgeous shine, started and ended his playing career at FC Twente.

    Roy Hodgson
To this day, Roy Hodgson has kept his hair which many would be jealous of.
But it was even more spectacular in his youth.
The ex-England boss has been a manager for the last 46 years, making it incredibly hard to go back further and imagine what he looked like.
Hodgson managed more than 20 teams, with the more notable being Inter Milan, Liverpool and of course England.
But before that, he had a Barrister-esq hairdo.
Hodgson’s last job came in 2022 at WatfordCredit: Getty
    Claudio Ranieri
The 71-year-old Italian never lost his charm.
Claudio Ranieri started his career at Roma but moved on to Catanzaro, where he made more than 200 appearances.
The ex-defender played for Catania and Palermo before moving into management.
A 1973 Ranieri had stylish hair and a stern look on his face while donning orange Roma gear.
He managed the likes of Napoli, Chelsea, Juventus and Leicester.
The latter he miraculously guided to a Prem title in 2015/16.

    Martin Jol
Martin Jol with long ginger hair is a sight to behold.
The Dutchman started his playing career in his homeland at ADO Den Haag.
He then went on to play for German giants Bayern Munich.
The 66-year-old is now more recognised for his time in management, where he spent many years in England.
He famously managed Tottenham as well as Fulham.
Jol’s last job came in 2016 in Egypt with Al-Ahly.

    Jurgen Klopp
Like Hodgson, Jurgen Klopp has managed to keep his hair.
He also happens to be able to grow an incredible beard.
But back in his playing days in Germany, Klopp was exotic with his hair and moustache styles.
Klopp started off as a striker but swiftly morphed into a no-nonsense centre-back.
The now Liverpool boss, and inevitable club legend, incredibly never made a top-flight appearance.
He went on to manage his beloved Mainz, who he made 325 appearances for between 1990 and 2001, before rising to the top of the game at Borussia Dortmund, where he earned a move to Liverpool.
He is now a Prem, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup winner.
At Dortmund, he won two Bundesligas despite Bayern’s overwhelming dominance.
He also guided the team to a Champions League final in 2013, but they lost to their German rivals at Wembley.

    Mauricio Pochettino
The argentine spent 17 years of his life playing professional football.
Mauricio Pochettino was a defender in his younger years, while also rocking long hair.
He was also an established international footballer, representing his country at the 2002 World Cup and the 1999 Copa America.
Ten of those years as a pro were spent in Spain at Espanyol – a team he’d later go on to manage.
He also played in France for two clubs, Paris Saint-Germain and Bordeaux, having started his career with Newell’s Old Boys managed by mastermind Marcelo Bielsa.
Poch won two argentine leagues in 1991 and 1992.
A successful three-year spell as Espanyol manager saw him land on English shores in 2012 with Southampton.
He was an instant hit on the South Coast, which then earned him a move to Tottenham in 2014.
His time in North London saw the team contest a Prem title race but ultimately come up short.
He also guided them to their first-ever Champions League final in 2019.
But Spurs lost in Madrid to Liverpool.
Poch landed the PSG job after his dismissal from Tottenham.
There he won three major trophies, including a league title, but he was replaced last summer having struggled to win the Champions League despite having Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and the great Lionel Messi at his disposal.

    Louis van Gaal
Like fellow Dutchman Jol, Louis van Gaal had long ginger hair when he was younger.
He also looked like he was destined to be a top manager. A know-it-all.
As a player, Van Gaal turned out for the likes of Ajax, Royal Antwerp, Telstar and AZ Alkmaar.
But his most successful spell came at Sparta Rotterdam, where he stayed from 1978 to 1986.
His CV as a manager, though, will be hard to replicate.
Van Gaal successfully managed Ajax, Barcelona, Holland on three separate occasions, AZ, Bayern and Man Utd.
As a manager, he won 20 major trophies including seven league titles and four European trophies.
His hair has thinned out these days, and yes he’s into his 70s, but it doesn’t stop him from arguing with the stars of today.
Van Gaal managed Holland at the 2022 World Cup and exchanged words with Lionel Messi after their quarter-final defeat to Argentina.
The manager’s pre-match comments were seen as disrespectful.
Messi and Co let their feelings be known on multiple occasions.
Argentina went on to win the tournament.

    Manuel Pellegrini
Former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini was a Chilean centre-back.
The 69-year-old spent 1973 to 1986 at Club Universidad de Chile.
    He was a one-club man.
Pellegrini has been a manager for 35 years and is still going strong.
And he has seemingly kept the same hairstyle.
He has taken charge of teams in Spain, England, Argentina, Chile, China and Ecuador, winning leagues in four countries.
His biggest managerial achievement came in 2014 when he guided Man City to a second-ever Prem title.

Spurs are looking to strengthen this month following a dismal run of form that has seen them fall five points outside the top four.
According to Calciomercato, Zaniolo’s agent has travelled to London in order to negotiate with Tottenham.
They add that the Lilywhites are the 23-year-old’s preferred destination.
While in London, Zaniolo’s representative could also talk to West Ham.

Although the attacking midfielder would rather join Spurs, the Hammers could try to hijack the deal.
Roma are said to want around £35million for Zaniolo.
Tottenham would initially like to bring him in on loan, although Roma would want an obligation to buy included.
It’s claimed that the Serie A side would not accept less than £31m for Zaniolo.

Both Spurs and West Ham could face further competition from Borussia Dortmund.
The Bundesliga side want to bolster a midfield that could lose Jude Bellingham this summer.
Zaniolo has made 128 appearances for Roma since joining from Inter Milan in 2018.
He has managed 24 goals and 18 assists from midfield.
The in-demand star suffered with a shoulder injury earlier this season, but has played 17 times this term.
He missed Roma’s win over Fiorentina last weekend through illness. More

Aston Villa trio set to leave in January transfer window as Emery looks to bring in ex-Arsenal star Guendouzi

ASTON VILLA are set to offload three players in a huge squad clear-out this month. That’s as Unai Emery prepares a £30million offer for ex-Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi.

The Birmingham Mail claims Marvelous Nakamba and Morgan Sanson are both set to leave Villa Park in the next ten days.
And Emery is already counting the cash after selling Danny Ings to West Ham for £15m today.
The striker departs just 18 months after a £25m move from Southampton.
But Nakamba is expected to depart Villa next after failing to make a single league appearance this term.

And he could be followed by Sanson, who Emery is a fan of but admits needs regular minutes to realise his potential.
The Frenchman joined Villa for £16m two years ago but has only managed 400 minutes of football.
Emery declared: “Sanson is a possibility to leave, but for me is a very good player.
“He understands very good how we want to play and he has the skills to do it.

“But he has to play in a team to be consistent, trying to play more and here it’s difficult to give him it – he is as well finding something to leave.”
Nakamba and Sanson’s departures would open the door for a new midfield signing.
And it’s reckoned France international Guendouzi is top of Emery’s list.
The duo worked together for several years at Arsenal, with Guendouzi keen on a reunion in the Premier League.
He is currently a key man for Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, helping them to third in the table.
The French giants are open to doing business this month, but Villa will have to pay a meaty £30m for the privilege. More

Ex-Premier League star unrecognisable in bizarre photo shoot and ‘looks like his mum forgot to pick him up from school’

A FORMER Premier League ace looked unrecognisable as he starred in a bizarre photo shoot. And one fan even joked he looked as though his mum had forgotten to pick him up from school.

The attacker, 28, is still playing top-level football in Italy’s Serie A.
But he took a break from his boots and shin pads to get kitted out in some statement fashion pieces.
That included an overside blazer, chunky tie and wacky jester-like colourful trousers, a cut-open long-sleeve polo jumper and a tightly-wrapped coat – as well as a pair of Dolce & Gabbana pants to reveal his shredded six-pack.
The interesting snaps certainly caught the eye on social media.

Another said: “This is all I could get from lost property after I had an ‘accident’.”

And a final user commented: “Actually thought these were FIFA 23 images. They can’t be real.”
The pictures appear to have been taken inside the Stadio Friuli, the home of Udinese and the player-turn-model’s current home ground.
He joined Udinese initially on loan in 2020 but made the switch permanent the following year.
The four-cap Spain international forward came through at Barcelona but shone in England with Everton and Watford.
The mystery footballer is of course Gerard Deulofeu.
He has impressed since returning to Italy with Udinese, scoring 18 goals in 67 appearances.
But now seemingly enjoying the best spell of his career and linked with a transfer return to the Premier League with Aston Villa, Deulofeu seemingly has a broader perspective on football and life.

“Before it was everything, now it is an important part of my life, over the years I have managed to differentiate.”

How Chelsea have splurged £385MILLION on transfers this season without breaking FFP rules – but it’s a VERY risky plan

CHELSEA’S stunning January spending has left plenty of rival fans pointing fingers and wondering how it is allowed. The imminent arrival of PSV Eindhoven winger Noni Mondueke will take the club’s winter splurge to around £181m, on TOP of the net £203m spent last summer.
Noni Mondueke’s arrival at Chelsea will take Todd Boehly’s spending to £385mCredit: Getty
This month’s eye-popping cash lay out by new Blues owner Todd Boehly appears a significant statement of faith in under-pressure Graham Potter.
But the complexities – at times bafflingly so – of football finances means Chelsea are still on the right side of Financial Fair Play regulations.
    At least for now.
For while clubs face more stringent cost control mechanisms now than ever before, the truth is that football economics and REAL economics are not the same thing. Or even close.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Premier League rules allow Chelsea to lose £35m per season, while Uefa’s current FFP regulations limit losses to £25m over a three year period.
But Uefa are transitioning to new regulations linking spending to revenue, with clubs initially allowed to spend 90 per cent of their income, set to reduce to 70 per cent by 2024-25.
Additionally, the impact of the Covid pandemic on incomes, when clubs played effectively behind closed doors for more than a season, has seen a loosening of the regulations.
And while those relaxations are now over, the way club expenditure and income is calculated also allows Chelsea to dig deep.
    Most read in Football
HOW TO GET FREE BETS ON FOOTBALL
In 2020-21, after a season impacted by their Uefa transfer ban, then-boss Frank Lampard spent around £223m on acquiring players including Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, £72m Kai Havertz and Edouard Mendy.
Chelsea’s total receipts on players sold was £68.4m, for a nominal “loss” of £154m.
But football accounting means that incoming transfer fees are spread over the length of the contract – a concept called “amortisation” – while all the money for sales and loans out are booked at full value.
Likewise, last season’s transfers of Romelu Lukaku (at a club record £97.5m) and the loan fee for Saul meant an amortised spend of £24m, while sales including those of Fikayo Tomori, Mark Guehi, Tammy Abraham and Kurt Zouma banked £143.5m.
Of course, those amortised calculations mean that transfer fees are “paid” for the duration of contracts, ensuring a hefty wedge each season.
But it also means that the money Chelsea spent this summer only added around £40-45m to their official FFP spend, a figure almost exactly balanced by incoming fees.
And it has been notable that Chelsea have announced contracts of seven-plus years for many of their winter recruits, spreading those transfer fees over the longer-term.
Chelsea’s latest accounts, for the 2020-21 season, stated a turnover of £434.9m and a loss of £153.4m.
But last season, despite the restrictions on income after government sanctions against former owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea still had revenues – according to accountants Deloitte – of £481m.
Noni Madueke is due to complete his £30m switch from PSVCredit: Getty
There was even a positive effect from the forced sale to Boehly.
By paying off the £1.6bn debt owed to Abramovich, Chelsea’s financial slate was wiped clean.
And the various legitimate accounting tricks allowed by football regulations mean that even with this year’s spending, Chelsea are likely to stay within the allowable losses.
Chelsea, though, may be storing up long-term issues.
Football finance expert Swiss Ramble calculated their player amortisation costs are likely to be £212m this season.
In addition, having green lit such huge spending, other clubs now know the Blues have to offload players – they currently have three more senior players than the 25 allowed and must act by the end of the window – and will “low-ball” them with offers.
Failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League – as seems likely – will also bring a £40-50m black hole in revenues.
    Read More on The Sun
It might get tougher. Much tougher.
But, for now, Chelsea fans do not appear to have anything to worry about. And rival supporters can keep pointing their fingers, to no avail. More
