Reason Scott McTominay refuses to change his Man Utd shirt number as he reveals he is now obsessed with it

Since making his debut in 2017, McTominay has made 194 appearances for his boyhood club, scoring 18 and assisting five.
But McTominay has no intention of changing the shirt number given to him as a Man Utd youngster – and he’s one of many football stars rocking bizarre numbers.
In fact, he says he’s obsessed with the No39 and he can’t “get it out” of his head.
Speaking to ManUtd.com on why he refuses to change numbers, McTominay said: “No39 obviously is special, when you first get your number.

“Nobody has ever said change your number – there’s not been a single conversation about changing my number.
“Not three years, two years or a year ago.
“Nothing has ever been said about it. I’m perfectly fine with that.
“I’ve never even asked myself and never thought or brought it up in conversation to change my number.

“I’m perfectly fine, so 39. I see 39 everywhere now, I can’t get it out of my head!”
McTominay has been linked with a move away from Man Utd in recent days.
United’s top-four rivals Newcastle have held talks over the possibility of signing McTominay, who they tracked last summer.
However, the Magpies would face a fight to convince United to sell the player in January.
A summer move could be more likely for Eddie Howe, who would hand McTominay an important role in the project. More

Arsenal Invincibles star unrecognisable as he spars in boxing ring with 18-cap international CEO of his own business

AN ARSENAL Invincibles star looks completely different as he’s swapped the pitch to become CEO of a business. The ex-defender made more than 250 appearances in English football with more than 50 of those coming for the Gunners.
The former defender won the Premier League with Arsenal in 2003-04Credit: @Instagram
He played 68 timed for the GunnersCredit: @Instagram
He was part of the famous team that went unbeaten in 2003-04 having come through the academy in N7.
And he played alongside the likes of Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.
The bulk of his game-time in an Arsenal shirt came in his final couple of years in North London before he eventually left in search of more regular opportunities.
The Leytonstone-born ace also won 18 caps for his country.

And the mystery footballer is of course… Justin Hoyte.
Hoyte played 68 games in total for his boyhood club, although only one of those came during the Invincibles campaign.

And even that was a late substitute at Birmingham.
But the right-back did win the FA Youth Cup with the Gunners and started the 2007 League Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

He was eligible to play for England as well as for Trinidad and Tobago, and was capped 18 times for the England under-21 team.
But in 2013, Hoyte made himself available for selection for the Trinidad and Tobago national team, and ended up winning 18 caps for the Soca Warriors.
Since retiring he moved away from football and is the CEO of his own business that he started last year.
The company is called Future Champions Sports Group Limited with the 38-year-old the only active director.
And in the video Hoyte posted to Instagram last year of himself sparring, he looks different having bulked up from his playing days.

Chelsea ‘launch new Enzo Fernandez transfer bid worth £88m plus players’ but joined by Real Madrid and Barcelona

CHELSEA are preparing to launch another huge transfer bid for Enzo Fernandez – with Real Madrid and Barcelona waiting in the wings. The Blues have stormed through the January transfer window and splashed out nearly £200million already this month to try and revive the team.

Only Benfica have shown some resistance from Todd Boehly’s spending power as they cling on to Fernandez.
The midfielder has been heavily linked to the London club ever since his outstanding World Cup with Argentina.
After Benfica successfully rebuffed Chelsea’s initial attempts to sign him, it now appears they have another battle on their hands.
The Record newspaper in Portugal report on their front page that Chelsea are preparing to launch a 100m euros – or £88m – bid for the star.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
The 22-year-old has a release clause of £106m in his contract.
If the fee was met, Benfica would be forced to accept Chelsea’s offer.

But so far the Blues have appeared unwilling to go that high despite being keen on midfield reinforcements.
Record claim the club are preparing to offer £88m along with some of their own players in a swap to sweeten the deal.

But Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are believed to be monitoring the situation, upping the stakes as the transfer window enters its final weeks.
Chelsea have not been shy previously under their new ownership on spending money.
The club dished out £88m to recruit Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk, with the young winger enjoying a good debut at Anfield on Saturday.
Funds have also gone towards bringing in the permanent signings of Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Noni Madueke and Andrey Santos while money also had to forked out to secure Joao Felix on loan. More

How Arsenal have revolutionised Emirates atmosphere, from cheap pints to spine-tingling anthem

ARSENAL have improved almost beyond measure since Mikel Arteta took over as manager. And so has the atmosphere at Emirates Stadium.

Gunners supporters have enjoyed backing their team this yearCredit: Getty
Famous for being a “library” in the past, buoyant Gooners have made it as loud as it has ever been this season.
As their fortunes on the pitch began to improve last term, with a younger team led by stars like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, the Emirates began to change.
Match tickets became harder to come by, with demand growing as the team showed signs of life after years in the doldrums.
Those behind the scenes at Arsenal have actively looked to seize upon the change of mood.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
Two-for-one offers on pre-match pints purchased within 60 minutes of the stadium opening have become a semi-regular ploy.
And prices for booze are down across the board provided fans get in early.
Incentivising supporters to be in the ground well before kick-off, fans can grab a Budweiser, Camden Hells, Camden Pale Ale or Magners for just £3.95 a pop, provided they are in within an hour of opening time.
Arsenal also saw a huge number of new, younger season ticket holders arrive last season.

At the start of the 2021-22 campaign, the Gunners offered existing season ticket holders a “holiday” – meaning they could defer their seat for a year if they had Covid fears or financial issues caused by the pandemic.
This enabled a fresh batch of supporters to take their places – providing fresh impetus and enthusiasm to the stands.
Noticing the improvement, Arsenal chiefs decided to let a number of the new season ticket holders retain their spots this season, even after the return of many fans that took them up on their “holiday” offer.
Rather than kick the temporary season ticket holders out, they opted to simply sell more – cutting into the number of tickets available to members match by match.
Arsenal have also worked with supporters that want to make the Clock End as loud as possible.
Fan group Ashburton Army have been determined to improve things at the Emirates.
Wearing matching T-shirts in a similar manner to Crystal Palace’s Holmesdale Fanatics, the AA are located in Block 25 of the Clock End.
They have been responsible for banging a drum and trying to sing throughout matches.
While they have also been attempting to produce tifos and get displays going.

They can be seen marching to the ground in a large group banging their drum prior to matches.
As documented by Arsenal’s All or Nothing Amazon series, they also introduced new club anthem “North London Forever” to their pre-match playlist.
Performed by Arsenal fan Louis Dunford, the song went viral before being embraced by boss Mikel Arteta, who insisted it be played at the ground.
It has now also been taken to heart by supporters, who regularly belt it out at games.
A consistent theme in the improvement of Arsenal’s atmosphere has been a willingness of the club to engage with fans.
After months of consultations the Gunners started introducing fan artwork outside the stadium, contributing to the newfound harmony between supporters and the board.
They have still shown that they can get it wrong, with many fans fuming at clappers being left on seats before the recent Manchester United game.
But they have finally decided that engaging is more productive than trying to shut out the noise.
Arsenal supporters have largely been characterised by loud, angry AFTV rants in recent years – but some are now attempting to change that narrative.

I conceded Harry Kane’s first-ever Tottenham goal on his way to fairytale record but I have my own amazing career story

IF you have no idea who the goalkeeper was who conceded Harry Kane’s first Tottenham goal, don’t worry, he won’t be offended. In fact, the self-proclaimed “nobody” would actually quite enjoy leaving most football fans stumped by the pub-quiz question.
Harry Kane matched Jimmy Greaves’ record of 266 Spurs goals v FulhamCredit: Getty
The answer is Richard Brush, a Birmingham-born stopper who has spent the majority of his 22-year career playing in Ireland.
He was between the sticks for Shamrock Rovers when a fresh-faced Kane came off the bench for Spurs in the Europa League in December 2011 and completed a 4-0 rout with what would become a typically-clinical finish.
Two hundred and 65 goals later and Kane is one away from breaking Jimmy Greaves’ long-held record for the club.
The England captain matched Greaves’ haul of 266 by hitting the winner in Monday night’s 1-0 win at Fulham.

SunSport tracked down the refreshingly self-deprecating Brush, who is into his fourth spell at Sligo Rovers aged 38 and fully aware that his claim to fame is playing a tiny part in the England captain’s story.
The former Shrewsbury goalie said: “It is sort of a badge of honour and is definitely the highlight of my whole career since I left school and joined Coventry at 16, to have someone score against me that turned out to be Harry Kane.
“It’s quite a sad indictment of my career and the way it’s gone!”
The goal itself showed what a natural-born finisher Kane is.
    Most read in Football
Danny Rose swung a cross into the far post, Andros Townsend nodded it down and there was Kane to bury it from six yards, giving Brush no chance.
Yet the goalkeeper said: “I wish it had been a worldie where he had bent it into the top corner but it wasn’t.
“Given all the goals he’s scored, the competitions he’s scored in and the teams he’s scored against, for his first one to be against a nobody, it’s a bit of a fun fact.
Richard Brush conceded Harry Kane’s first-ever goal for Tottenham
“People will be racking their brains to remember the team it was against and it might be the last on their mind that it was Richard Brush, a Birmingham lad playing in the Irish leagues.
“It will probably be an impossible question for most football fans!”
Kane has gone on to have one of the great careers in the modern game, becoming a multi-millionaire in the process.
Brush’s has been very different, toiling away in Ireland where the average wages are around £1,000 a week on one-year contracts, and even going part-time for half a decade where he supplemented his income by working in residential social care.
Birmingham-born Brush has spent most of his career in Ireland
He also has one of the most amazing comeback stories you are likely to hear in football.
Back in November 2018, Brush was driving the two-and-a-half hour journey home after a game for Cliftonville in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
He suddenly felt what he describes as “wooziness” at about 11.45pm.
He tried to drink from his water bottle, but the liquid just ran out of his mouth. Then when he attempted to pull over, he was unable to push the clutch with his left foot or move his left arm when attempting to put the car into neutral.
Brush with Carlo Cudicini for the return leg of Shamrock v Spurs
When the car eventually rolled to a stop, one look in the mirror at his face, which had dropped on the left side, confirmed the horror.
Two weeks shy of his 34th birthday, unbelievably, he was having a stroke.
He could not get through to his wife so he rang his manager, who at first thought his player was joking but then said help would be on its way.
Brush called 999 but with “the Irish not understanding my accent at the best of times”, it was unclear if the message got through.
The road was pitch-black with no cars around.
Brush recalled: “There was a period of 20 to 30 seconds where I was starting to slump into the seat and was thinking, ‘This is it. No one is going to find me’.
“There are no cars coming. If the gaffer doesn’t come in the next half an hour and doesn’t understand the severity of the situation, I might slip off now. The woman on the phone can’t understand a word I’m saying.
“I haven’t dwelt on it since it happened, but there was a little moment of, pardon the expression, ‘I am f***ed here’.”
Luckily, a car did eventually turn up and Brush managed to flash it down.
The hospital later revealed he had two blood clots on his brain due to a genetic hole in heart, which was then surgically corrected.
    Read More on The Sun
Astonishingly, he was back playing six weeks and a day later of his own volition and is still going strong just over four years later, now working as a player-coach for Sligo.
Brush is happy to be known best for conceding the first goal against Tottenham’s soon-to-be greatest scorer – even if his own personal story is far more memorable once you learn of it.

Gnabry played 82 minutes at the Red Bull Arena and assisted Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s opener for Bayern.
But instead of some recovery and preparation ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Cologne, the winger jetted off to the French capital.

But Nagelsmann wasn’t exactly thrilled with his trip to Paris.

When asked about Gnabry attending, he said: “I believe that a player can do whatever he wants in his free time.

“It is important that everyone can organise their free time in such a way that they are happy.

Arsenal join Chelsea in Moises Caicedo transfer race with Gunners wanting ‘to be informed of Brighton talks’

ARSENAL have reportedly joined Chelsea in the transfer chase for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. The Gunners have already snatched one player from the Seagulls this month.

Winger Leandro Trossard joined Arsenal in a £27million deal from Brighton and made his debut during the 3-2 win over Manchester United on Sunday evening.
Mikel Arteta’s team then confirmed that they had bought Poland international defender Jakub Kiwior from Spezia for £21m last night.

Now transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal are plotting a swoop on Brighton again.
However, they face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool for Ecuadorian midfield star Caicedo, who has recently employed a new agent.

Romano tweeted: “Official. Moises Caicedo has picked Futbol Division as new agents — it’s now confirmed by agency statement.
“One to watch in the final days of Jan window — Brighton want to keep him but Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are well informed on Moises situation.”
The 21-year-old Ecuadorian has taken the Premier League by storm since stepping into the Brighton set-up initially under now-Chelsea boss Graham Potter.
Under current manager Roberto De Zerbi, who is desperate to keep the ace, Caicedo’s development has continued at a rapid pace, with Brighton continuing to march up the table.

Brighton have become serial recruiters of top talent which is then flipped for a huge profit margin, as evidenced by sales such as Marc Cucurella, Ben White and most recently Trossard.
Trossard arrived at the Amex Stadium in 2019 for £18m, but is now an Arsenal player having been sold for £27m.
The respective fees they got for Cucurella and White saw Brighton receive more money than what it cost them to build their stadium.
And Caicedo is set to be the next name on that list of profitable acquisitions by the club after he cost them just £5m. More
