Keane often describes Clough as the best manager he ever had – better than Sir Alex Ferguson.
And even though he was once on the receiving end of a punch from Clough, he was forgiving of the old Forest boss, stating it was probably deserved.
Keane, 51, recalled the incident on Sky Sports, saying: “He punched me after a game one time, but it was probably the right thing to do.
“The odd punch didn’t do any harm. I gave a short backpass against Crystal Palace which led to an equaliser – which wasn’t my fault – and after the match, he punched me!”

Former Forest goalkeeper Mark Crossley has also spoken about the incident and agrees with Keane that the goal was not the Irishman’s fault, but his.
He said: “Cloughy was waiting in the dressing room for Keano, because Roy used to sprint off the pitch and he was always the first one in after a game.
“But the gaffer was hiding behind the door – out he steps and he punches Roy in the stomach and says: ‘Don’t ever pass the ball back to my goalkeeper, young man’.
“It was actually my fault, but he punched Keano and I think that was just his way of letting him know, I’m the gaffer and you do as I say’.”

Arsenal in running for Weston McKennie transfer with Juventus looking to cash in for £26m-rated midfielder

However, following Mikel Arteta’s admittance that Arsenal “need more cover in midfield”, they have now thrown their hat in the ring to hijack the deal.
According to Corriere dello Sport in Italy, Leeds have made first contact to sign McKennie in a deal worth up to £26million.

Arsenal coming into the picture has changed the scene however, and McKennie would be far more open to moving to the Emirates than Elland Road.
The report suggests if the Gunners convert their interest into a “concrete lunge” then a deal will be a formality.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
A separate report from Calciomercato indicates McKennie’s agent is already in London to hear more about the offer from Leeds.
Leeds have a strong American contingent at the heart of the club, including midfielder Tyler Adams – who partnered McKennie in midfield at the World Cup – and manager Jesse Marsch.
But the pull of impending Champions League football which Arsenal seem all but certain to be able to offer next season could be too strong of a pulling factor for him.
Juventus are happy to let the 24-year-old go despite recently being slapped with a 15-point penalty after they were found to have inflated transfer fees for players as part of a tax scam.

Declan Rice has been earmarked as the man to join the club in midfield, but a deal for the West Ham skipper will not happen until the summer and could cost £80m.
Arsenal have already completed deals to sign Leandro Trossard and Jukub Kiwior for a combined £48m from Brighton and Spezia respectively.

Sam Surridge thought he had levelled – and even copied Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration – but the goal was chalked off by VAR for offside.
Weghort grabbed his first United goal just before half-time with a fine finish on the rebound.
And Bruno Fernandes drilled in a late third to seal the 3-0 win in the first-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
On-loan Dutch striker Weghorst, 30, had failed to score in his first two outings for United, leading to many fans questioning his abilities.

But Keane heaped the praise on him afterwards, telling Sky Sports: “Great finish, look at his [Weghorst’s] reactions.
“People have been critical that he’s come to the club. That’s what he’s been brought to the club for. Huge goal for United.”
After witnessing his new boy break his duck, boss Erik ten Hag said: “I know it’s what he is capable of. He has a really good goalscoring record.
“We created some more really good chances. On the right side, it was a good action by Antony and Wout was on the rebound. It was a real striker’s goal. Therefore we got it.”

And the scorer himself added: “A great night for us. A great result and of course after this first match, victory is a really good chance and to get to the final.
“It’s always special and you want to score goals. You prefer to have this first one as quick as possible so I’m really happy. It was an important moment also. It gave us a way better feeling at the break.
“I just turned to the goal hoping for a rebound and it came exactly like this. A good finish, it was nice.
“It’s a great result for us, let’s finish it next week.” More

Farhad Moshiri facing huge £300MILLION financial black hole if he sells Everton after years of failed transfer spending

FARHAD MOSHIRI is staring at a financial black hole that could cost him as much as £300MILLION if he sells Everton. That stunning figure of failure would represent almost a quarter of the 67-year-old’s fortune after seven years of failed spending during his reign as the club’s majority owner.
Farhad Moshiri could end up losing £300m if he sells EvertonCredit: Getty
Moshiri claimed last week that he is not planning to cash out but SunSport understands he made it clear almost a year ago to potential investors that he would go for the right price.
And we can reveal that price after being made aware of documents listing details that are in circulation.
Moshiri is understood to want £350m for the club — plus the clearance of one of the club’s loans, totalling £150m.
What’s more the new buyer would have to come up with a further £300m to complete the construction of Everton’s new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Moshiri bought his 94 per cent stake in the Toffees for £200m.
It was thought that he had also given £250m in loans but SunSport believes the club currently owe him £100m more.
So his total investment amounts to £550m but by selling he would recoup only a maximum of £350m — £250m if they are relegated.
Dropping a division means he would stare at a loss of £300m for walking away and not calling in the personal loans.

The investment of a new owner could be much higher still because it is based on a supposed “lock-in” build price of £500m that was thought to be in place with the builders, Laing O’Rourke.
Yet Moshiri — a chartered accountant — suggested somebody within his beleaguered board had their sums wrong.
The stadium set-price was announced nine months ago, CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale claiming: “We are able to lock in construction costs, while also benefiting from Laing O’Rourke’s economies of scale in what is an ever-fluctuating marketplace.”
Yet in the days before Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by West Ham that marked the end of Frank Lampard’s reign, the beleaguered supremo told talkSPORT the final price would be close to £760m.
So far it is understood that only £200m has been invested in the 52,888-seater ground.
Moshiri has been searching in vain for new investors for months and now knows that if the club is sold he will take the biggest personal hit of any club owner in the Premier League era.
Last week he told Everton’s Fan Advisory Board: “The club is not for sale, I’ve been talking to top investors of real quality to bridge the gap on the stadium.”
Yet as he scratches around for a new manager, he is still to find any major money men willing to help fund a club that has lost £372m in the last three years. More

Tottenham close in on Pedro Porro transfer as Sporting Lisbon ‘ask Brighton about Tariq Lamptey loan as replacement’

Porro, 23, is their main target and they are growing increasingly confident of completing a £40million deal.
An offer of £32.5m has already been rejected this month, with Portuguese side Sporting remaining stubborn over the player’s £40m release clause.
But SunSport understands that following talks between both clubs over the past two days, an agreement is close to being reached to meet that figure this window.
Now that transfer looks closer to being completed after The Athletic claimed that Sporting have “approached Brighton about signing Lamptey” on loan.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
The former Chelsea ace, 22, moved to the Seagulls in January 2020 and is under contract until 2025.
Ex-England youth international Lamptey, who has now switched allegiance and played for Ghana at the World Cup, has only made a combined 16 appearances in the Premier League.
And he has only started one top-flight match this term.
Meanwhile Spanish international Porro, who was once on the books at Manchester City, has made almost 100 appearances in all competitions since joining Sporting on loan in 2020.

Should the deal go through, City would benefit with a 30 per cent sell-on clause, having left Manchester permanently in May 2022 for £7.2m.
The signing would see the north London club’s spending over the course of this season surpass £200m, having spent £170m on seven players in the summer.
Despite winning just two of their last six Premier League outings, Spurs are still competing in the FA Cup and Champions League – as well as remaining three points off the top four. More

Everton rejected transfers for Bruno Guimaraes and Eder Militao before pair went on to shine for Newcastle and Madrid

EVERTON allegedly snubbed the chance to sign Bruno Guimaraes and Eder Militao before the pair went on to shine for Newcastle and Real Madrid. The Toffees are in disarray and deep in a relegation dogfight as they search for a new manager to replace the axed Frank Lampard.

It comes amid years of poor recruitment, with talkSPORT host Simon Jordan claiming this week that agent Kia Joorabchian had too much influence at Goodison Park.
He was involved in a deal that brought his client Carlo Ancelotti to the club as manager in 2019 and his questions have been raised about his relationship with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri.
Jordan accused him of pulling the strings at Everton – which led to the super-agent calling into the White and Jordan show to hit back at those claims.
And during the telephone call, Joorabchian revealed that he had been largely ignored by the Blues’ hierarchy over recent years when it came to transfers as he listed some of the big names they snubbed.

Joorabchian said: “Of course, as we do, we offered him many, many players, and they turned them all down.
“All the signings of the summer – James Tarkowski, Conor Coady, Neal Maupay, Dwight McNeil, the list goes on, all the loans and signings they [Everton] did – were done purely by them and the board. We didn’t have any involvement whatsoever.
“We speak to all the owners, I speak to quite a few club owners, but the point is, what is our job? Our job is to present what we have as a client list and say, ‘This is what we have’.
“And Everton haven’t taken any of our advice. So we can’t be that influential.”

“Diego Carlos when he was leaving Nantes, we offered him [to Everton] at £11m before he went to Sevilla, and now he’s at Aston Villa.

Yet right now there are few better players on the planet on form than the 25-year-old Mancunian to help guide United on that path.
He is key to the future of what Ten Hag is building if the ultimate goal the manager has set out is some target to achieve.
It is now 15 years and counting since they were last crowned European and World Champions.
Still, small steps, but it was another giant stride for Rashford in this Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

The confidence he is playing with as well suggests this run is not an exception but the new rule for him.
This goal after just six minutes was possibly the best he has scored in his career so far.
It brought gasps from the home crowd and delirious cheers from the faithful away support at the other end of the ground.
He picked the ball up ten yards inside his own half after being fed by Casemiro and the rest was a feast for the eyes.
His solo run was reminiscent of Ryan Giggs at his best.
The ball was under his spell as it rolled around the outside of his right boot.
Like a slalom skier, he eased his way in between Forest captain Joe Worrall and Remo Freuler to get a free run into the box.
Wayne Hennessey expected a shot across him into the far corner, we all did.
But Rashford allowed the ball to roll onto his left foot and he lashed a shot in at the near post. Wow!
His calm expression as he jogged away suggested he was not surprised by what had just happened.

Credit to Forest for responding to this blow in what was a cracking first half between two teams who have won this competition nine times between them.
The home side’s fourth was 1990 however, while United’s fifth was 2017 the same year Jose Mourinho did a double with the Europa League.
That was United’s last silverware and Ten Hag had earmarked this competition to end that sequence.
They are certainly the favourites now to meet either Newcastle or Southampton in the final, despite Forest’s efforts to get back into this tie.
They thought they had drawn level in the opening period when Morgan Gibbs-White broke and fed Sam Surridge who delivered a shot past David De Gea and into the far bottom corner.
All that stood in his way was VAR and a matter of inches the wrong way made him offside.
Forest kept at it with a De Gea punch returned with some venom by Gustavo Scarpa to pull a great save out of United’s goalkeeper.
With Forest pushing forward roared on by a packed crowd on the banks of the Trent they were always going to be open to waves of counterattacks from the visitors.
Bruno Fernandes killed off the tie in the 89th minuteCredit: REX

And Manchester United are very good at counter-attacking.
They ping the ball about with pace and purpose to open their opponents up.
The Red Devils did just that on 32 minutes as Antony, found Wout Weghorst who eased the ball onto Bruno Fernandes.
Antony had continued his run into the box to receive Fernandes’ final ball but Hennessey did well to slide out and smother his shot.
United got their second right on half-time.
Antony, who came in for some criticism for his performance in defeat at Arsenal, was involved again.
It was hit shot parried by Hennessey but on loan striker Weghorst was following up to fire the loose ball into the roof of the net for his first goal for the club.
After getting a dig in the ribs from Serge Aurier and going down in early in the second-half, Rashford was given a breather and subbed off and watched Fernandes kill the tie in the final minute of normal tie from the bench.
His job done, Reading in the FA Cup is next in his sights then it is the return leg of this.
    And as for this tie?
“I hope anybody’s not stupid enough to write us off,” Forest’s legendary boss Brian Clough once said.
