DJED SPENCE’S loan move away from Tottenham is being delayed due to Spurs’ refusal to include an option to buy.The right-back joined the north London side from Middlesbrough in the summer but boss Antonio Conte made clear it was a deal struck by the club and not one he was demanding.

A host of clubs, including Leicester, Brentford and Crystal Palace are all keen on a loan deal this month.
French side Lyon are also thought to be considering a move as Chelsea chase their right-back, Malo Gusto.
However Spurs do not want to risk losing Spence for good at the end of the season with Conte’s future in doubt.
The club are not currently entertaining permanent deals or any loan offers with an option or obligation to buy, which is causing negotiations to drag.

Spence has been give just five minutes of Prem action since making the move, despite Conte’s need for a new full-back.
Palace boss Patrick Vieira is keen to see investment before the end of the January window next week.

Lisandro Martinez deserves to be more popular among Dream Team bosses after 19-point Game Week

IS it possible that Dream Team managers are sleeping on Lisandro Martinez (£4.1m)?That seems unlikely given the Argentina international recently won the World Cup – that sort of thing tends not to go unnoticed – but his current ownership of 6.8% feels a tad low all things considered.
We’ll give gaffers the benefit of the doubt and conclude that his popularity is still recovering from his absence post-Qatar when he was given extended leave to attend celebrations in his homeland.
However, the Manchester United centre-back underlined his viability with a mighty 19-point haul this Game Week.
Now a top ten defender in the realm of Dream Team!Credit: getty
The unstoppable Kieran Trippier (£6.3m) was the only defender to match Martinez for points in Game Week 19.
Racking up such a haul is difficult enough for a defender in normal circumstances but the 25-year-old managed to do it despite being part of a defence that conceded three goals at the Emirates on Sunday.
Martinez left north London with his head held high despite his side’s defeat to Arsenal because of his headed goal and a thoroughly deserved 7+ rating to pouch six points when all was said and done.
He then banked a further 13 points thanks to a Star Man display (and clean sheet) against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.
Game Week 19 was Martinez’s most profitable of the campaign so far and his overall of 87 points is enough to make him the tenth-best defender in the game.
Erik ten Hag’s side may have been humbled by the Gunners but, generally speaking, they have made big strides in recent months.

And a quick glance at the Red Devils’ upcoming fixtures suggests a good chance of more positive results to come.
They face Reading in the FA Cup this Saturday before fulfilling the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Forest, in which they hold a 3-0 aggregate lead.
After that they host Crystal Palace in the league before a double header against Leeds, who they have beaten heavily a few times since the Yorkshire club were promoted.
It depends on team selections of course, but Martinez will be eyeing his fair share of clean sheets and 7+ ratings from those five fixtures.
The ex-Ajax defender will surely be a relatively popular recruit once transfers are refreshed in February. More

Newcastle star Joelinton ADMITS drink-driving after downing 2 glasses of wine – and gets fined a huge sum

NEWCASTLE star Joelinton has been slapped with a fine after he admitted drink-driving after sinking two glasses of wine. The midfielder, 26, was arrested on January 12 after being pulled over while in his £170,000 Mercedes Benz AMG G63.

Joelinton admitted to officers at the scene in Newcastle that he had drunk two glasses of wine earlier in the evening.
A breathalyser test showed there was 43mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
The Brazilian admitted drink-driving at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court today.
It comes less than 48 hours after he scored the winner in the Magpies’ Carabao Cup semi-final against Southampton.

The star was banned from driving for 12 months – although this can be reduced to nine months if he completes a drink-driving course.
Joelinton was also fined £29,000 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £2,000 victim surcharge – totalling £31,085.
The court was told the footballer earns £43,000-a-week – meaning it will take less than a week to pay the fine.
He issued a statement after the sentence apologising for his actions.
    Most read in Football
Joelinton said: “Hi everyone, I wanted to acknowledge that I made a mistake and to publicly apologise to all the fans of Newcastle and all the people of this city. My actions unintentionally put other people in danger. For that, I am truly sorry.
“I will learn the lessons from his incident and will do everything I can to be a role model for my family, for football and for society.”
District Judge Paul Currer told Joelinton that he “sincerely hopes” he has learned from his mistake.
He added: “This offending could, potentially, have had disastrous consequences for the lives of others, as well as yourself.”
The court was told police had been sitting in an unmarked police car when their “attention was drawn” to a black Mercedes.
Jonathan Stirland, prosecuting, said: “The sergeant formed the view that the car was speeding or going too fast for the road. It caused him [the sergeant] to turn his vehicle around and followed the Mercedes on to the Central Motorway.
“He requested the vehicle to stop. The driver complied. While in a safe space, the officer spoke to the driver, who is the defendant before you today.”
He admitted drinking the wine and was arrested after failing the breathalyser test.
Geoffrey Forrester, defending, said the footballer was “utterly calm and compliant” and apologised for his antics.
The lawyer added: “If he could turn back the clock, he would.”
Joelinton was bought by Newcastle for £40million in 2019 from German side Hoffenheim.
He has since become instrumental for the Premier League team.
Manager Eddie Howe moved Joelinton from his position as centre-forward to a left-sided midfield role last season.
Since then, the footballer has gone from strength-to-strength.
Speaking about the player’s arrest, Howe said earlier this month: “It came as a shock. A difficult situation. Joe is very remorseful and was very upset. He knows the seriousness.
“I can’t go into too much detail but he understands his responsibilities. We are supporting him but understand the situation.
“‘Looking at Joe as a person, he is a very good professional and is hugely passionate about his career and the club. I was very much surprised by what happened.

“We will back him and support him, while also educating him and helping him, that is important. He is very young, everyone makes mistakes. I think it is also important that we don’t overreact.”

He even played alongside the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie in North London.
And also featured in Dennis Bergkamp’s testimonial in the first ever game at the Emirates Stadium back in 2006.
The 33-year-old spent the majority of his playing career in English football – racking up a total of 97 Prem appearances.
He ended his days with Cardiff three years ago despite failing to play a single minute during his second spell with the club.

And the speedster would announce his retirement at the age of 31.
Back when he came through the ranks at Arsenal, he boasted a youthful look with a fresh trim and a clean beard.
But he’s been rocking a remarkable change of look on Instagram.

He went from the short hair to the longer look in the latter years of his playing days but the dreads only came about once he hung up his boots.
And the mystery footballer can be revealed as… Armand Traore.

Traore made 32 appearances for the Gunners, including in the humiliating 8-2 defeat against Manchester United in 2011.
Only 13 of those came in the league though, with much of his game-time coming in the Carabao Cup.
He would eventually leave Arsenal permanently in 2011 following loan stints with Portsmouth and Juventus.
Traore also enjoyed spells with QPR, Nottingham Forest, Cardiff and Caykur Rizespor before returning to South Wales to round off his career.
On the international stage, he spent his youth days with France, but eventually decided to play for Senegal at senior level, winning five caps.

Everton legend Duncan Ferguson CONFIRMED as boss of rock-bottom Forest Green despite interest from stricken Toffees

EVERTON legend Duncan Ferguson has become Forest Green manager – despite interest from his old side. The Toffees sacked Frank Lampard after a dismal run of results that leaves them second from bottom.

And Ferguson is among the names the Everton board have considered bringing in to replace Lampard.
But the no-nonsense Scot is instead heading to League One, following the dugout departure of Ian Burchnall.
Burchnall was sacked after Forest Green picked up just five wins in 28 games.
Club chairman Dale Vince said: “I’m grateful to Ian for all his hard work this season, it’s definitely not been easy.
    READ MORE IN football
“Our first season in League One was always going to be a challenge in itself but it’s been made more difficult by a number of factors, with their roots in last summer.
“I believe in Ian as a coach, but circumstances have led us to this place, we’ve recruited strongly in the January window, player wise – now we need to recruit a new head coach – to give ourselves the best chance or staying in this league.”
Ferguson would arrive with managerial experience, having twice taken over at Everton in a caretaker role.
He replaced Marco Silva in an interim role in 2019, before Carlo Ancelotti was appointed.

Ferguson then reverted to assistant manager under Ancelotti and later Rafa Benitez.
And when Benitez was sacked in January 2022, the ex-striker had one game in charge before Lampard was hired.
But Chelsea’s all-time top scorer lasted just one year in Merseyside, with Everton again looking for a new boss.

Ex-Leeds gaffer Marcelo Bielsa leads the race in front of Sean Dyche, still out of work having been sacked by Burnley.
Ferguson was placed in the running until Forest Green secured his signature first.

But he could be set for a return to the Premier League after holding talks with Everton, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Everton are reportedly impressed with the rebuild Solskjaer oversaw at United, qualifying for the Champions League twice and finishing as runners-up in the Europa League.
But Solskjaer, 49, is demanding the Toffees strengthen the squad before he agrees to take over.
The former striker wants Everton to sign United captain Harry Maguire and his midfield team-mate Scott McTominay.

Fortunately for Solskajer, United are believed to be willing to let the pair go to help ease financial fair play strains.

Maguire could be available on loan with West Ham seeing a bid rejected for the England star.
McTominay has also attracted interest from elsewhere in the Prem, most notably Newcastle.
