Bournemouth were tipped as the destination for the player before the move broke down.
The Cherries’ new owners – which include Hollywood star Michael B Jordan – opted to pursue Hamed Traore from Sassuolo instead.
According to reporter Alfredo Pedulla, Zaniolo was so convinced that the deal was sorted that he had his flights ready to go.
He tweeted: “#Zaniolo had accepted #Bournemouth this morning: flights ready and yes absolute.

Bournemouth are now trying to wrap up a £26million deal to sign the 22-year-old, according to The Athletic.
Zaniolo is also a target for Leeds, but they have already failed with a loan bid for the winger.

The Italian’s agent Claudio Vigorelli is attempting to sort out a transfer to AC Milan, according to TV Dello Sport in Italy.
Mourinho spoke about the situation with Zaniolo recently and admitted it would be “unfortunate” if he stayed at the club.
He said: “I say unfortunately, because the player has been saying for a month that he wants to leave.
“If a player tells everyone he no longer wants to wear the Roma jersey, I have to say unfortunately.
“When a player tells you, the club and his team-mates: ‘I don’t want to wear the Roma jersey, I don’t want to play, I don’t want to go back to training…’ I have to say unfortunately.
“The ideal situation is for the player to be happy.
“I said that I expected him to stay, but as things stand today, I have to add unfortunately to that sentence.” More

Jorginho denied Chelsea farewell after four-and-a-half years at club as he leaves for fierce rivals Arsenal

It will bring an end to Jorginho’s four-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge, having signed from Napoli in the summer of 2018.
But Chelsea have a day off today, meaning the 2021 Champions League winner will not get to say his goodbyes.
Jorginho is braced to leave West London having made 213 appearances, with a Europa League winners medal also to his name.
Now he is preparing to move across the city after Chelsea and Arsenal agreed a surprise £12million deadline day deal.
Jorginho, who was out of contract at the end of the season, has been offered an 18-month deal with the option to extend it.
The Gunners turned to Chelsea’s vice-captain after having two bids of £60m and £70m turned down by Brighton for Moises Caicedo.
Jorginho will come in following the news of Mohamed Elneny’s knee injury, which may rule the Egyptian out for the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have re-launched an effort to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.

Their pursuit of the World Cup-winning Argentine, 22, stalled after Benfica demanded a better deal – despite his £105m release clause being met.
And after several rejected bids, Chelsea look set to finally get a deal over the line just hours before the January transfer deadline.

Following meetings between the two clubs on Monday, the plan is to pay the sum in six instalments in order to stay within Financial Fair Play regulations.
Should it go through – surpassing the £100m paid by Manchester City for Jack Grealish – American owner Todd Boehly will have splashed over half a BILLION on new players.

Arsenal and Tottenham tipped to make last-gasp Allan Saint-Maximin transfer after Newcastle sign Anthony Gordon

ARSENAL and Tottenham should make a late bid for Newcastle forward Allan Saint-Maximin, according to former Premier League striker Louis Saha.Saint-Maximin, 25, has struggled for game time at St James’ Park so far this season.
Allan Saint-Maximin has not started a Premier League game since AugustCredit: Getty
He was plagued by injuries at the beginning of the campaign, suffering from hamstring and other muscular problems.
But he has been fit since the end of October, with Eddie Howe still opting not to start him in a single Premier League game.
He has not been named in a Newcastle XI in the league since the end of August.
That is despite Saint-Maximin acting as the shining light for the Magpies last season.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
The team appear to be thriving without him and even added to their forward line in the January transfer window through the acquisition of £45million man Anthony Gordon.
And Gordon’s arrival is one Saha believes Arsenal and Tottenham should capitalise on by trying to sign the out-of-favour Saint-Maximin.
Speaking to GGRecon, the former Man Utd, Spurs, Everton and Fulham forward said: “All young players should see how quick football goes.
“It’s unbelievable because last season Saint-Maximin was unreal and nobody would have been thinking about the prospect of Newcastle selling him.

“He’s been unlucky this season with injuries, but he’s a top player and he could potentially find a move to one of the ‘big six’ clubs.
“I could see Arsenal or Tottenham having a player of Saint-Maximin’s quality and style.”
The Gunners have already added to their forward line this month through the signing of Leandro Trossard from Brighton for £27m.

Spurs have also done business in attack, stealing Arnaut Danjuma from under Everton’s noses in a loan deal until the end of the season.
But Saint-Maximin could still add something to both squads, with Arsenal going for the title and Tottenham looking to clinch a top-four spot.
The Newcastle forward has contributed 13 goals and 19 assists in 109 games since arriving from Nice for £16.5m in 2019.
