Tottenham forced to waive part of Marcus Edwards sell-on clause in Pedro Porro transfer which could cost them MILLIONS

The Prem outfit decided to forgo their 50 per cent sell-on clause with Vitoria, who sold him for £9million, and carry it over to Lisbon where he’s worth five times that amount.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, however, the North Londoners had to waive off 15 per cent of the winger’s rights to land Porro.
That means Antonio Conte’s side now has a 35 per cent sell-on clause, with many European teams keeping tabs on the 24-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.
The former England youth international’s Sporting release clause costs £52million, which means Tottenham would get £7.8m less if he’s sold for that price.

Romano tweeted: “After Pedro Porro deal, Sporting have received 15% more of Marcus Edwards rights — Portuguese club will now get 65% of any sale for Edwards.
“Many European clubs are closely monitoring Edwards situation ahead of the summer, where interest is expected to be high.”
Edwards has stood out at Sporting this season with 10 goals and 10 assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.
The forward also stood out against his former club in both Champions League group stage clashes, and even helped Sporting win 2-0 in Lisbon.

The ex-Vitoria star has confirmed he would like to return to the Premier League at some point.
Edwards previously said: “It’s home, so of course I want to come back there [to the Premier League] one day. I just focus on what I’m doing here for now.”
Tottenham ultimately landed key target Porro on transfer deadline day.
The right-back has joined on an initial loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to buy at the end of the campaign.
The loan fee for the Spain international will cost around £4.4m, along with £37.3m the North Londoners will have to splash when the move becomes permanent in the summer. More

Greenwood was due to stand trial in November accused of attempted rape, assault and coercive control.
The Crown Prosecution today confirmed they had dropped all charges against him.
A spokesperson said: “We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review.
“In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.

“In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case.
“We have explained our decision to all parties.
“We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met.”
Greenwood last appeared in court in November where a trial date was set for November 23 this year.
    Most read in Football
The alleged offences related to one woman and were said to have taken place between November 1, 2018, and October 15, 2022.
Greenwood was accused of “repeatedly engaging” in controlling and coercive behaviour for almost four years – including making threats and derogatory comments on social media.
He was also charged with attempting to rape the woman on October 21, 2021, and allegedly assaulted her between December 12, 2021, and December 31, 2021.
The footballer was originally remanded in custody after being charged by police on October 15.
But a judge released him on the condition he does not contact witnesses, including the complainant, and resides at an address in Bowdon.
The striker also spent three nights in custody after he was arrested at his £15,000-a-month rented home in Trafford last January.
He was suspended from Utd but still received his £75,000-a-week salary.
Greenwood was removed from FIFA 22 and dropped by sponsors Nike in the wake of the allegations.
Football Manager 2022 also confirmed he would not feature in the game.
All merchandise bearing the No11’s name was axed from the official Utd site and teammates unfollowed him on Instagram.
Greenwood last played for the Red Devils on January 22 last year when the team beat West Ham 1-0.
The player joined the club aged just six and rose through the ranks to land himself a regular spot on the first team.
In 2019, he became the youngest footballer to play for United in the Champions League when he took to the pitch aged 17.
Greenwood has made 129 appearances in total for the Red Devils and netted 35 goals.
In 2020, England manager Gareth Southgate gave the striker his first cap when Greenwood came off the bench in a 1-0 win against Iceland.
Greenwood missed out on last year’s Three Lions’ World Cup campaign in Qatar as the case went to court.
Utd have not yet released a statement following the development.
Chief Superintendent Michaela Kerr, GMP’s Head of Public Protection, said today: “The investigation team has remained in regular contact with the legal team, providing any updates of note, and so understand the rationale for the discontinuation of proceedings at this stage, and that this decision has not been taken lightly.
“Despite the media and public’s interest in this case, we have decided not to comment on it in any further detail.
“I would, however, like to use this opportunity to reiterate GMP’s commitment to investigating allegations of violence against women and girls and supporting those affected, regardless of their circumstances, throughout what can be a hard and upsetting time for them.
“An ever increasing number of officers are receiving specialist training and the force is more consistently utilising tools, available via the criminal justice system, to keep people safe and care for victims.
“If you feel you are or might be a victim, please don’t let this case put you off asking for help.”

Chelsea ‘had pants pulled down’ in £300m January transfer splurge with Blues still way off Man City, claims Murphy

CHELSEA had their “pants taken down” after splashing over £300million in the January transfer window. That is according to Danny Murphy, who claims the Blues paid over the odds and still have a team in which the majority of their starting line-up would never make it at Manchester City.

The West Londoners had a very busy January transfer window that saw owner Todd Boehly spend a staggering £326m on eight signings.
In fact, Graham Potter’s side spent as much this month as the entire Premier League did in January 2022.
Chelsea also shattered the British transfer record by splurging a whopping £107m for Enzo Fernandez on deadline day.
But Murphy claims the London giants were “bent over” as he believes Fernandez doesn’t justify the highest fee in Premier League history.

The Liverpool hero admits the 2022 World Cup’s Best Young Player is a good midfielder but not as good as City’s Rodri and Manchester United’s Casemiro.
Murphy told talkSPORT: “I think they are overpaying for players and I still don’t think the majority of their first XI gets anywhere near City’s team.
    “Not really [impressed].
“I watched a few of his [Fernandez] games live. He’s decent, but not worth £100m. They’ve been absolutely bent over there.

“He’s a good midfielder, tenacious, young, gets on the ball and is brave. But he’s not Rodri, not Casemiro.

The Red Devils splashed out £85.5million to land the Brazilian from Ajax.
But the 22-year-old has chipped in with just five goals and one assist in 22 appearances so far – and no goal contributions in the Premier League since early October, prompting accusations of being a “YouTube player”.

And Agbonlahor is particularly disappointed by his efforts, most recently against Forest last night when he again pulled out the ball trick.
The three-cap ex-England man fumed on talkSPORT: “Manchester United have looked better since Erik ten Hag has come in and they’ve done better in the last few months.

“But when I look at Antony, there’s been a few big transfers in the Premier League, £86m for him…
“I think he’s a bluffer. I think when he gets the ball, he doesn’t take a player on. He doesn’t have the speed to take players on.
“With 11 league games he’s got three goals, no assists. Four Carabao Cup games, one goal, no assists. Two FA Cup games, one goal, one assist. That’s one assist in all competitions.
“He doesn’t do what Rashford does. Rashford gets the ball direct, takes players on, puts balls into the box.”

Agbonlahor continued his rant and then got out of his chair in the studio and hopped around in a circle to demonstrate the infamous spin.
The Villa Park hero added: “The big thing for me is Antony’s number of crosses. He’s put in 1.5 crosses [average] per game.
“If you’re a striker, you’re making runs and he’s doing his tricks, cutting in, cutting back, not putting the ball in the box.
“I played with a great winger, Ashley Young, still playing now at 37. His first season at Aston Villa, he got nine goals and 14 assists.
“You always knew he was going to put the ball in, take a player on, do his stepovers, do his chops, but he’d always put the ball in the right areas.
“For me, Antony’s 1.5 crosses a game is not good enough.”
On the spin, Agbonlahor concluded: “What would you do if you were a defender?
“It’s embarrassing, he needs to liven up!”
