Watch Chelsea new boy Andrey Santos score again for Brazil as he proves at least one Boehly signing can find the net

His goal against Venezuela came in stoppage time as Brazil eased to a 3-0 win
But he is yet to join up with the rest of Graham Potter’s inflated squad as he is currently representing Brazil at the South American U20 Championship.
Santos, who is wearing the captain’s armband for the age group side, has already racked up five goals in the competition.
That included one in their latest game on Friday as they won 3-0 against Venezuela.
In stoppage time at the end of the game, the Chelsea man scampered on to a loose ball after Venezuela failed to deal with a long throw.

And Santos fired beyond keeper Frankarlos Cruz Benitez Gutierrez to keep up his sensational run of scoring in every game he has played at the tournament.
He has found the back of the net against Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.
Santos was rested for their other match against Paraguay.
He will be hoping for first-team minutes when he eventually arrives at Stamford Bridge.

And the departure of Jorginho will move him up the pecking order in Potter’s squad.
However, Santos will face stiff competition at the London club due to Todd Boehly’s £600m spending spree since the summer.
Midfielders Enzo Fernandez, David Datro Fofana, Carney Chukwuemeka and Denis Zakaria have all come through the door since Boehly’s takeover nine months ago.
They also have Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount available to play in the middle of the park.
Potter is still waiting for a host of midfield options to return from injury including N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
But if Santos continues to play like this he coulD be walking straight into the Blues XI,

But before the match, fans made their opinions clear on the club’s hierarchy.
Supporters marched the streets around Goodison Park with banners that slammed the way the club is being managed by the board.
A plane even flew over the stadium just after kick-off that claimed the Everton chiefs are the worst in the league.
Chairman Bill Kenwright, owner Farhad Moshiri and chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale were the main targets of the protest.

Banners read, “board full of liars” and “your time is up, get out of our club”.
Another was aimed particularly at Moshiri, attacking him for “keeping the club a dinosaur.”
The Everton board are not in attendance at the game with Arsenal as they have again been advised to stay away for security reasons.
In their last home fixture versus Southampton, those in charge of the club were told not to go to the stadium as it was deemed “high risk” with ongoing campaigns against them.

And they would be prepared to break the British transfer record of £107m they have just set for Enzo Fernandez in order to land Osimhen.
The striker, 24, is set to be one of the most in-demand players in the next transfer window.
Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs also in the hunt for Osimhen, whose 14 goals in 16 Serie A games have sent Napoli to the top of the table.
The Italian giants don’t want to lose their star man but are confident of generating a high-stakes auction for a player who will have two years left on his contract in the summer.

Osimhen would fit Chelsea’s new strategy of signing young players on long-term contracts.
The Blues committed a record-breaking £323m in January alone to bring in Fernandez and £88m Mykhailo Mudryk, who are both 22, five other permanent signings in their early 20s, and Joao Felix, 23, on loan.
But Graham Potter’s team is still struggling for goals.
Despite that, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the club’s only senior central striker, was left out of the Champions League squad to make way for new arrivals.

Chelsea are reported already to have agreed a £63m deal to sign RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku in the summer, although it is yet to be formally confirmed.

Brazilian international Martinelli has ended the speculation surrounding his own future after signing a new £180,000-a-week contract to 2027 with the option of a further year.
But fellow 21-years-olds Saka and Saliba are yet to put pen to paper despite the club’s best efforts to strike a deal.
Arteta admitted: “The plan is to extend the contracts of our biggest talents and commit them for the future and that’s what we are trying to do.
“We have started with Gabi, which is good news, and the others will be done whenever we can.

“But we all have to agree because we have to meet everybody’s expectations and timing is key on that.”
Both Saka and Saliba are under contract until 2024 and Arteta insisted: “I see everybody really happy and willing to continue with Arsenal.
“We want to build with all the talent and youth we have in the squad so it’s great news that Gabi has signed because he’s a player with enormous potential.
“He’s still very young so we know there is still much more to come from him and we all look forward to seeing him perform for Arsenal in the years to come.

Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira sacked Crystal Palace coach Sean Derry for ‘overstepping role after dressing room rant’

CRYSTAL PALACE boss Patrick Vieira sacked first team coach Sean Derry for reportedly “overstepping his roles and responsibilities” during a passionate dressing room rant.Derry, 45, who captained Palace as a player, was relieved of his duties earlier this week after more than three years as a coach at the club.

Arsenal legend Vieira confirmed his departure during a pre-match press conference ahead of their game with Man Utd on Saturday.
He said: “This is the decision that I made. I can confirm he [Derry] is not a part of the staff.
“I don’t want to go into details but, of course, he was an important figure, he played [for the club], he was the captain here. I don’t want to go into details. He’s been good to this club.”
According to The Athletic, Derry’s exit was the result of a clash of styles when it came to man-management.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
This was typified by Derry’s furious rant at the players following their 3-0 defeat to Everton in October.
He is said to have berated the team, imploring them to display the required passion and pride needed to play for the club he spent five years representing.
By contrast, Vieira is known to adopt a calmer approach with his squad – all while maintaining discipline in his own way.
And the Palace boss also sees the job of handling the players as one for him and assistant Osian Roberts.

It was that difference in approach and conflict between roles which is understood to have led to Palace and Derry parting ways.
Derry played more than 200 games for the Eagles across two stints between 2002 and 2010.
He dipped his toe in management from 2013 to 2018, taking charge of Notts County and Cambridge United.
Derry then returned to Palace in 2019, taking up an academy role with the club.
He was promoted to a position with the senior side in 2021, shortly after Vieira took over from Roy Hodgson.
Palace sit 12th in the Premier League table, seven points clear of the relegation zone and five adrift of the top half. More

‘Wow’ – Man Utd star Jadon Sancho posts heartwarming Instagram message to fans after finally returning to Ten Hag’s team

MANCHESTER UNITED star Jadon Sancho has uploaded a emotional message on social media after his return to action. The winger made his first appearance for Erik ten Hag’s side since late October on Wednesday, coming off the bench in the Carabao Cup semi-final win over Nottingham Forest.

Sancho took a break from football to focus on his mental well-being and after getting a huge ovation from the Old Trafford crowd, Sancho thanked fans for their kindness.
He wrote on Instagram: “Wow! Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone for the support I have received over the past few weeks, especially to the fans.
“My focus is to give my all to my team and the club.
“I’m so happy to be back out on the pitch, see you soon.”

Sancho was a regular in the Man Utd line-up at the beginning of the campaign but managed just three goals and one assist, coming off the back of a tough first season at the club.
The 22-year-old missed out on a place in England’s World Cup squad and consequently took a break from social media.
With his confidence low, Sancho was sent to the Netherlands to work on his physical and mental health alone.
He then returned to Man Utd in late December as domestic football resumed and Ten Hag did not rush him back.

The former Borussia Dortmund star was instead given an individual training programme, practising away from the rest of the squad before eventually joining his team-mates again.
Sancho and Ten Hag looked thrilled as he came on for Antony to play for 27 minutes versus Forest.
United were 3-0 up on aggregate and after his introduction they sealed their trip to Wembley to face Newcastle in the final with goals from Anthony Martial and Fred.
Sancho, who has been seeing a sports psychologist, could be set to make his first Premier League appearance in just over three months as Man Utd face Crystal Palace this afternoon. More

‘I’m suffocating’ – Man Utd star Raphael Varane speaks out on quitting France after French legend calls him ‘disaster’

RAPHAEL VARANE has revealed that football’s “suffocating” schedule is one of the reasons behind his retirement from international football aged 29.The 2018 World Cup-winning defender shocked the football world on Thursday when he decided to step away from representing France.

Varane’s tough call came nearly two months on from France’s devastating World Cup final loss to Argentina on penalties.
And the Manchester United defender says playing consistently at the highest level has taken its toll on him.
Varane said in an interview with Canal+ that is due to be released in full on Sunday: “I gave everything, physically and mentally.
“But the very highest level is like a washing machine, you play all the time and you never stop.

“We have overloaded schedules and play non-stop.
“Right now, I feel like I’m suffocating and that [Varane] the player is gobbling up [Varane] the man.”
Varane’s decision to retire from international football follows on from World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris’ departure from the set-up.
However, the four-time Champions League winner has been slammed by former France star Jerome Rothen as a “disaster”.

Rothen won 13 caps for his country between 2003 and 2007.
He told Spanish outlet AS: “I think that at this age and when you play in a club that allows you to be at a very high level, you have a duty.
“It’s to bring your talent to your country. He’s a disaster. He has a long history, congratulations!
“He won the most beautiful of competitions, the World Cup in 2018. We saw all his contribution to the last World Cup.
“There was scepticism because he was coming off an injury, but he performed very well.
“But I tell myself: what a decision! It’s a disaster to hear that, not to wearing the national team shirt again at 29. He can’t do that.
“Raphael, don’t forget you brought a lot, but here you are doing something stupid! The competition?
“He put players in his pocket. It’s a major madness within this group.”
Rothen then went on to speculate on the mood of the France camp post-Qatar World Cup.
He concluded: “I can only think of one reason for him stopping at 29, it is because the atmosphere of the French must not be good.
“Which France national team player stopped at the age of 29?”
Varane was considered to be Lloris’ replacement as France’s captain, but the weight on the country will now most likely rest on Kylian Mbappe’s shoulders.
The Paris Saint-Germain star has also confirmed himself as one of the best in world football and is on course to carve out a legendary career.
Mbappe scored a hat-trick in the final against Argentina, and netted his penalty in the shootout, only to end up on the losing team.

He is only the second player to score three in a World Cup final, following on from England’s Sir Geoff Hurst in 1966.
Mbappe has 12 World Cup finals goals to his name at just 24, and is just four behind record holder Miroslav Klose.

Arsenal however will now be hoping Tottenham can do them a favour when they face Manchester City tomorrow.

Mikel Arteta is the first Arsenal manager to lose three consecutive away games against Everton.

    Wright on the game
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has heaped praise on Everton’s win.
He tweeted: “Everton deserve that. We have to learn from it and move on. Top of the league, everyone is going to be up for playing us.
“Half chances key in these type of games. Lots for the team to take away from that defeat.
“We go again boys! Give Sean Dyche his flowers.”
Dyche on beating top of the table
He said: “It gives us a platform to move forward, the performance was key for me today.
“To get a win against top of the league – they are going great – and we managed to press the game pretty well.
“We have some good footballers here.”
    Dyche’s reaction
He told BT Sport: “I think everything they demanded, it is about the players as well.
“Very honest during the week about their assessment of where they were.
“They took a lot on this week and we condensed a lot of work into them this week.
“As I said the minimum requirement is maximum effort and they did that today.”
He added: “I make it clear, it is not that they weren’t (wearing the badge with honour) it just needed shining up a bit.
“It just got a bit softened, I am not knocking what they did under the last manager, but they need to give everything.”
    Keown on Dyche
He added: “Dyche deserves a huge amount of credit because it is about detail, it about messages to the players and then it is about applying that.
“That comes from the message from the manager.”
    Ferdinand on Dyche bounce
He told BT Sport: “Dyche can’t let this be a new manager bounce, he can’t allow this to be a quick honeymoon period, just because he has come in and brought new ideas and everyone is on a clean slate.
“This has to be now the benchmark.
“Every team in the country will find it had to come here with the atmosphere like that.”
    Are Arsenal missing Jesus?
One fan tweeted: “Games like today emphasise why we desperately need Gabriel Jesus back.
“When things were tight earlier in the season he would create something out of nothing. He’s our spark.
“Nketiah, as good as he’s been recently, is several levels below and stifles Martinelli’s impact on games.”
A second added: “We are virtually playing with 10 men, Nketiah only pops up 3 minutes-a-game.”
    Keown on Arsenal
He added: “A bit of detail cost Arsenal, they did not turn up today.”
    More on Everton
Rachel Brown-Finnis told BT Sport: “It was such a united performance from each unit from goalkeeper to defence to the midfield.
“It all happened today, they were very organised and disciplined, and that is hard to do, given what has preceded today.
“Sean Dyche and his staff should take so much credit for their application of the basics that were on show today.”
    Tarkowski on goal
He added: “I have waited a while and to be fair I should be getting more.
“But it was a great time to do it and great place to do it.
“Back to work on Monday and we crack on again.”
    McNeil on result
McNeil said: “We are a good team and we know Arsenal are a good team as well.
“We had the better chances, and luckily Tarky managed to score the winner.”
    More from Tarkowski
He added: “Hopefully this is the turning point for the season.
“There is a lot of talent in there and we have to get out and crack-on to next week.”
    Tarkowski on the crowd
The goalscoring defender told BT Sports: “What an atmosphere.
“Fair play to the fans it has been tough times, we bought into the management straight away, we performed excellently and now we need to continue that.”
    Ferdinand on Everton
Rio Ferdinand has praised the hosts after their winning performance against Arsenal.
He told BT Sports: “Frank Lampard will be sitting at home wondering where was this during his last few weeks in charge of the club.
“But you have to give Sean Dyche and his coaching staff the credit.
“These fans and this place, the atmosphere they created was phenomenal today.
“But the players had to start that with their performance. This is all down to hard work and graft.”
    How it stands
The win has lifted Everton out of the relegation zone and to 17th place.
Arsenal however remain five points ahead of second placed Manchester City, though that lead could be cut to two points.
