Premier League Supercomputer revealed after Arsenal’s shock loss at Everton and Man City’s defeat at Tottenham

THE two sides battling it out to win the Premier League title both lost this weekend. Arsenal were hit by the famous new-manager bounce as Sean Dyche’s Everton took a deserved 1-0 win at Goodison Park on Saturday.

On Sunday, though, Manchester City missed the chance to close the gap at the top of the table to two points by suffering the same scoreline at Tottenham.
But how does that impact how the season is predicted to finish?
Mikel Arteta will breathe a sigh of relief as his side are still expected to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004 come the end of May.
The number-crunching BETSiE is convinced the defeat at Everton is just a blip – and the Gunners will march on to lift the trophy.

The Betting Expert supercomputer simulated the remainder of the season a whopping 100,000 times, taking into account results so far this season, pre-season expectations and xG for and against for all 20 clubs.
And the results churned out will make happy reading for Arsenal fans.
The figures project the Gunners to end the season with 27.1 wins, 5.6 draws and 5.3 defeats – with a grand total of 86.9 points.
And that would see Arteta’s men finish exactly seven clear of rivals Manchester City on 79.9 – with 24.5 wins, 6.5 draws and 7.1 defeats.

Manchester United claim third on 73 points with Newcastle snatching the fourth and final Champions League spot on 71.
There is then a six-point gap back to Tottenham in fifth.
And it is Brighton who join Spurs in the Europa League on an impressive 63.1 points while Brentford (57.7) pip strugglers Liverpool (57.6) and Chelsea (51.9) to the Europa Conference League spot.

At the other end of the table, the supercomputer results do not bode well for Bournemouth who are expected to finish on a measly total of 30.4 points.
Joining them in the Championship next year will be Southampton (33.7).
And despite his early heroics against Arsenal, Dyche looks on course to fall short in his bid for survival.
Everton are expected to reach 35.3 but that is not enough as Wolves (38.4), Nottingham Forest (40.4), Leicester (40.8) and Leeds (40.9) stay up.
That leaves Fulham to lead the mid-table cluster ahead of Aston Villa, West Ham and Crystal Palace.

The result of the red card will see Casemiro miss United’s next three domestic games – although he could potentially miss the Carabao Cup final if the club launch an appeal.
After Marriner had shown the red to Casemiro, the home fans at Old Trafford were absolutely furious.
Hughes started walking towards the Stretford End prior to play restarting.
And as supporters gave him verbals, he responded by pointing to his ear before placing his finger to his lips.

The 27-year-old then held up six fingers – seemingly referencing Liverpool’s Champions League success.
Despite being born in Surrey and then growing up in Derby, the former Watford man has stated previously that he is a fan of the Anfield club.
He told the Daily Express in 2016: “Steven Gerrard, with the way he played, the way he went about his game and his demeanour was my favourite player growing up and I followed him quite closely.
“I used to go quite a bit to watch them when I was younger and an academy player but obviously it’s a lot more difficult nowadays.

“That was Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Fernando Torres and Gerrard in their prime. It wasn’t a bad team. Why Liverpool? I couldn’t really tell you.

“I just had an admiration for them and followed them ever since.” More

What financial breaches have Man City been charged with, could they be relegated, when will we know the outcome?

MANCHESTER CITY are in trouble. But what are the allegations against them? The Premier League have accused the club of multiple breaches of financial and other rules over a nine-year period from 2009-2018 and then failing to cooperate with a League probe for the past FOUR years.
Manchester City have been accused of multiple financial breachesCredit: Getty Images – Getty
In total there are 32 separate charges adding up to 113 alleged breaches of League rules.
    What does that mean, though?
In simple terms, the club stands accused of not providing “accurate financial information” that gave a “true and fair” picture regarding City’s revenues, actual salary payments to players and managerial staff deals with sponsors.
    That’s serious, right?
Absolutely. Deadly serious. And it could have huge repercussions for the club.
League legal chiefs believe City hid the true source of their revenues by claiming they were from sponsors when in fact they were funded by the club’s Abu Dhabi owners.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL

City are also accused of paying a significant part of former boss Roberto Mancini’s salary through a Abu Dhabi shell company and hiding that fact.
In another section of the charge, City are said to have not given full details of player wages.
The club stands accused of breaching Uefa FFP rules for five seasons and Prem “profitability and sustainability” regulations over three seasons.
And perhaps most seriously, City are said to have failed to give full information to Prem legal investigators over FOUR years since the probe began in December 2018.

BETTING SPECIAL – BEST FOOTBALL BETTING SITES IN THE UK
How did we get here in the first place?
The investigation into City’s finances was sparked by reports by the German investigative magazine Der Spiegel which accused City of hiding millions in funding from the club’s owners, Abu Dhabi United Group, under the guise of legitimate sponsorship earnings from Gulf-based companies including Etihad Airways and investment giants Aabar.
City consistently criticised the “illegal hacking and out of context publication of City emails” but the allegations saw Uefa conduct its own inquiry which saw the club banned from European competition for two years in February 2020.

But that ban was overturned, wasn’t it?
It was. City lawyers successfully argued at the Court of Arbitration for Sport that the Uefa charges were brought too late and were not legitimately levied against them. CAS did fine City £9m for failing to cooperate with the Uefa inquiry.
Will City take the same approach now?
The club’s bullish statement suggested it will be a full-on and aggressive defence, citing the club’s “irrefutable evidence” and describing the “surprise” at the Prem charges. But it is understood there are no time limitations for alleged breaches of League rules.
That was prompted following the publishing of leaked documents by German website Der Spiegel.

And what could the punishment be – if City are found guilty, of course?
Anything from a slap on the wrist and a fine to enforced relegation or even expulsion from the Prem. Points deductions could also be in place, whether just for this season or spread over the years in which the offences were allegedly committed.
What could the punishment be – if City are found guilty, of course?
The ONLY time a Prem club has had points deducted was in 1997 when Middlesbrough were stripped of three points for failing to complete their fixture at Blackburn, a  decision which ultimately relegated the Teesiders.
Since then, League chiefs have baulked at applying similar penalties and the independent commission into the Carlos Tevez affair in 2006 ruled that while West Ham deserved to lose points, it would have been unfair on their fans as it would have guaranteed relegation.
Retrospective points lost would be different but would open up City to massive compensation claims totalling millions from the clubs who would have finished above them in those seasons – a one-point deduction in 2015-16, for example, would have seen Manchester United leapfrog City into fourth and a £40m-plus Champions League windfall.
City, currently second in the table, face possible punishments including a points deduction, transfer bans, spending limits and even expulsion from the league and stripping of previous titles.
In the period concerned, the reigning Prem champions won three titles – in the 2011-12, 2013-14 and 2017-18 seasons.
It is not known what would happen to those titles, and whether they would be awarded to the runners-up, if City face the toughest possible sanction.
If the league title is simply handed to the second placed side, Man Utd could pick up two more titles – from the 2011-12 and the 2017-18 seasons. Liverpool finished second in 2013-14 and could stand to be awarded that trophy.
However, it is also possible if City are stripped that the titles will go unassigned.
In the last case of a major team being expelled from a league, Italian giants Juventus were booted from Serie A over the Calciopoli match-fixing scandal.
They won both the 2004-05 and 2005-06 titles but were downgraded to last place in the latter season and relegated to Serie B.
Inter Milan were awarded the 2005-06 title, but the previous season’s trophy remains unassigned.
    Read More on The Sun
So when will we know what the outcome is?
That is still unclear but there will be huge pressure on the Prem to hold the hearing swiftly and announce the result before the end of the season.
City would have the right of appeal but only to a Prem appeals panel and not, this time, to CAS. More

Aaron Wan-Bissaka started off the move with a throw-in
Casemiro’s excellent pass into Alejandro Garnacho was a key part of the goal
Luke Shaw then crossed for Marcus Rashford to stroke home
The move starts with a throw-in from Aaron Wan-Bissaka in his own half.
The right-back uses Fred, who finds Lisandro Martinez to bring the ball into the Crystal Palace half and pick out Luke Shaw in acres of space.
Shaw then continues to bring the ball forward before handing the baton to Alejandro Garnacho, who comes inside and plays a one-two with Fred.
Only six passes have been made, but United are suddenly in full flow.

Garnacho finds the man who started the move, Wan-Bissaka, and he immediately spreads the play to Antony on the right.
The winger then plays a neat one-two with Bruno Fernandes before going back to Wan-Bissaka.
The move is really beginning to take shape and the two most important passes happen when the ex-Crystal Palace star picks out Casemiro, who drops back into the D and plays a fine ball into Garnacho.
The Argentine impressively gets away from two defenders, before laying off to Shaw in space on the left-hand side of the box.

The charges relate to breaching financial regulations over nine seasons between 2009 and 2018.
They have also been charged with breaching rules requiring them to assist in the investigation, from the 2018-19 campaign to the current season.
The investigation itself into City started way back in December 2018.
An independent commission will now look into the Premier League’s findings.

The commission can issue punishments to the club ranging from expulsion from the Premier League to points deductions, fines and transfer bans.
In response, City said: “Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.

“The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.

A Premier League statement said City breached rules requiring them to provide “accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club’s financial position”.

Tottenham record-breaker Kane feels he can still reach another level – and explains importance of Chelsea double in 2015

HARRY KANE feels he can still reach another level after becoming Tottenham’s greatest-ever goalscorer. The England captain made it 267 strikes for the North Londoners with the winner in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City.

It took the 29-year-old one past the previous record set by legendary striker Jimmy Greaves in 1970.
Kane first hit the back of the net for Spurs in December 2011 against Irish side Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League.
Asked if he could ever have imagined back then that he would go on to become the No1 goal-getter in the club’s history, the forward replied: “Absolutely not.
“I dreamed of playing for Tottenham but I don’t think you ever think about records.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
“Being Tottenham’s all time top goalscorer is not something I was thinking about back then.
“It was just about trying to get in the team and play and when I did it was just about trying to be consistent and perform every year, improve every year.
“I’m still only 29 so I still feel like I’ve got room for improvement and that’s what I’ll try to do for the rest of my career.”
Kane also reached 200 Premier League goals with his 15th-minute strike that downed City.
    Most read in Football
That haul has come in just 304 games – including three goalless matches on loan at Norwich – meaning he has reached that milestone faster than any other player.
At the end of the City win, Antonio Conte congratulated him over the phone from his sickbed in Italy where the Spurs boss is recovering from gallbladder surgery.
Conte went under the knife on Wednesday back in his home country and while the operation went well, he was not physically up to attending the game.
Kane revealed: “He was on the phone there and he just kind of congratulated me for the achievement and just said he was proud of all the boys.

“It’s not easy when you don’t have your coach there. It’s obviously been a difficult week, we’re all happy the surgery went well and he’s recovering well.
“Whenever you haven’t got your coach there, it’s never easy. We showed today we’re a unit, a team. I’m sure he was watching proudly.
“It was the type of performance where we knew what we had to do. It wasn’t going to be easy at times. We had to dig deep and really suffer and be together.
“I thought throughout the whole team everyone showed 110 per cent commitment. I’m sure the gaffer was proud and we can be proud of that.”
Kane said he will never tire of the ecstatic feeling that comes from finding the back of the net.
And he pointed to his double in 2015’s thrilling 5-3 win over Chelsea at White Hart Lane as a key moment in his rise to Spurs’ finest-ever marksman.
The former Leyton Orient, Millwall and Leicester loanee explained: “I felt like that game was an important one.
“Chelsea at the time were one of the best teams in Europe, they were top of the Premier League.
“I’d done well before then, I’d scored goals against other teams but I hadn’t done it against a big team yet.
“And not just my goals but the whole performance, it was one of my best performances in a Spurs shirt.
“That gave me the confidence I needed to know that I could do it against any team, on any stage. That was the moment that I felt like, ‘OK, I’m here to stay’.”
Spurs moved to within a point of fourth-placed Newcastle with their victory against Pep Guardiola’s side, albeit having played a game more.
The first half of the campaign was up-and-down with some poor performances and results, including a run of ten games where they shipped TWENTY-ONE goals.
But Conte’s side have kept it much tighter in recent games, earning clean sheets in five of their last seven matches.
The victory over City, a fortnight after they lost 4-2 at the Etihad, was their first against one of the other big six this season.
Suddenly there is optimism around the club with a winnable last-16 tie in the Champions League against AC Milan to come on Valentine’s Day and the team through to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Kane added: “That’s the standard – if we can do it against one of the best teams in the league, we can do it against anyone. So they are the standards we’ve set now.
    Read More on The Sun
“We need to try not to fall below them in any game. Clean sheets are really important.
“They win games. We feel like we’ve got enough firepower to score goals and from top to bottom we’ve got to make sure we keep the ball out of the net.” More
