Hilarious Harry Kane review from a decade ago compared Tottenham hero to Steven Fletcher and predicted he’d be ‘average’

A HILARIOUS review of “average” Harry Kane from a decade ago compared the Tottenham hero to Steven Fletcher. But Kane’s having the last laugh now after becoming Spurs’ all-time leading scorer at the weekend.

Kane was compared to then-Sunderland striker Steven FletcherCredit: Action Images – Reuters
The England captain, 29, smashed in his 267th goal in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Manchester City.
The strike took Kane past legendary figure Jimmy Greaves, whose previous record had stood since 1970.
But in 2013 the hitman was only being tipped for a run-of-the-mill Premier League career.
A piece from SB Nation ranked Kane, then 20 years old, as Spurs’ seventh-best prospect at the time.
    READ MORE ON HARRY KANE
The ace had just returned from a below-par loan at Leicester City which yielded just two goals in 15 games.
And earlier in the same season, Kane failed to score once in five appearances for Norwich.

The review described him as “average” in terms of his speed and strength, and just “decent” at finishing.
The piece went on to say Kane is “not going to get any minutes in the Premier League”, instead tipping him for another loan to Cardiff or Hull.

It concluded by saying Kane was only likely to become a “capable Premier League striker who can score 12-15 goals for a mid-table team.”
And Kane was even compared to ex-Scotland international Fletcher, who had banged in 11 goals for Sunderland that season.
However, the piece ended by saying under the right conditions, Kane could develop into a new Dimitar Berbatov or Francesco Totti.
And it was in the following 2013/14 season that Kane started to get a foothold as a Spurs first-teamer, scoring four times in 19 games that term.
But it was the campaign after that things really took off, with Kane finishing on an incredible 31 goals in all competitions.
He hasn’t looked back since, going on to become a key man for club and country.
And with time still on his side, Kane is sure to end up cementing his place in the history books further.
As for Fletcher, the 35-year-old is still playing on the books of Dundee United.
He has an impressive record of 170 goals in 659 games, with his career taking him from Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday to French side Marseille. More

Chelsea look blunt up front but Kepa Arrizabalaga and Thiago Silva continue to provide impressive Dream Team returns

CHELSEA’S transfer dealings may have excited their fans recently but the Stamford Bridge faithful have been struggling to stay awake on match days. The Blues have won just twice since the turn of the year, scoring only three goals in their last seven fixtures.
After two 0-0 draws in a row, a lack of potency and cohesiveness in the final third is Graham Potter’s primary concern but three consecutive clean sheets reflect positively on the defensive unit.
Clean sheets are coming far easier than goals for Chelsea right nowCredit: getty
This contrast is reflected starkly by the Dream Team rankings.
Mason Mount (£3.6m), Hakim Ziyech (£2.6m) and the like have barely produced two points to rub together in the last few Game Weeks whereas Kepa Arrizabalaga (£3.4m) and Thiago Silva (£5.8m) are thriving.
The latter has been among the top ten defenders pretty much since the get-go.
An absolute class act, the veteran centre-back’s overall tally of 107 points puts him fourth in his position – only the Newcastle trio of Kieran Trippier (£6.6m), Fabian Schar (£4.8m) and Dan Burn (£4.8m) are above him.
After a lean run of ten points in eight outings between Game Weeks 12 and 17, Silva has responded superbly with 29 in his last three appearances.
The Brazilian defender was deservedly named Star Man against Liverpool and he narrowly missed out on making it two from two following his side’s stalemate with west London rivals Fulham on Friday night.
Fine wines and all thatCredit: getty
Silva is in a league of his own among team-mates, 29 points ahead of Chelsea’s next-best player, and 44 points ahead of the club’s second-best defender, Marc Cucurella (£3.3m).
    Most read in Dream Team
The aforementioned Arrizabalaga is that man 29 points short of Silva but it’s worth noting that Edouard Mendy (£3.2m) was first-choice goalkeeper for the first two months of the campaign.
In fact, among keepers to have played at least five games this season, only Nick Pope (£5.3m) averages more points-per-game (4.8) than the Chelsea’s Spaniard (4.1).
Arrizabalaga has worked his way up to third in the rankings among assets in his position and yet he features in just 2% of teams, making him significantly less popular than the likes of Alisson (£3.9m), Aaron Ramsdale (£4.2m) and Ederson (£4.5m), who all have fewer points at the time of writing.
Overlooked by Dream Team managersCredit: getty
In fact, even Silva’s ownership is a modest 5.4% and he’s been consistently brilliant for months on end now.
It’s likely that many Dream Team gaffers are assuming that Chelsea’s inability to score goals means there’s no points to be had but in Kepa and Silva, Stamford Bridge is home to two of the very best defensive assets in the game this season. More

Mason Greenwood’s potential new salary revealed as suspended Man Utd star eyes major career change

MASON Greenwood’s potential new salary has been revealed as the suspended Manchester United star eyes a major career change. The Bradford-born ace is considering a move to China to continue as a player if United axe him over sex attack claims.

However, the most he could earn in the Chinese Super League is £2.7 million a yearCredit: Getty
If that transfer was made, he could earn up to £2.7m a year, which is the maximum allowed for foreign players in the Chinese Super League under a salary cap imposed by the country’s FA last March.
This works out at about £50,000 a week for a full season.
Charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control against Greenwood, 21, were dropped earlier this month after several key witnesses withdrew.
However, he remains suspended while the club carry out an internal investigation.
    READ MORE FOOTBALL NEWS
If higher-ups at Old Trafford do make the decision to fire Greenwood, his financial prospects would likely be severely impacted, even factoring in possible earnings in China.
For comparison, his teammate Marcus Rashford is reportedly set to re-sign with the club for up to £300,000 a week.
It comes after major sponsor Nike dropped Greenwood despite the allegations against him collapsing.
According to David Winnie, former professional footballer and head of the sports law department at Blaser Mills solicitors, the loss of sponsors could see the striker lose “millions” in possible earnings.
    Most read in Football
David told The Sun Online: “The financial benefits [of the sponsorship deal] would have been significant given how far he came in his career.
“Prior to the charges he was good for sponsors…[but] now there’s a residual stigma for brands.”
He added that major brands “probably wouldn’t want to be associated” with Greenwood “if or until his career picks back up again” and that they will be “slow to connect with him again”.
However, David did feel there was some hope left for the England international, saying: “I don’t see why he couldn’t bring sponsors back in future.
“He’s now free of any legal doubts…he’s not toxic…he’s back on the horizon, but it’s a very far horizon.
“He’s the one who has to bring himself back…by playing football, getting his head down and doing the right things off the pitch.”
While it’s nothing to sniff at, it’s far less than he could have earned re-singing with his current club based on teammates’ salariesCredit: Getty

Chelsea ‘are keeping tabs on former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique’ as pressure mounts on Graham Potter

CHELSEA are reportedly keeping tabs on former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique. The Blues are having one of their poorest seasons for years but spent heavily in the January window to try and rectify their fortunes.

Goalless draws against Liverpool and Fulham are all Chelsea have to show for so far despite their lavish window.
Graham Potter is under growing pressure to turn things around at Stamford Bridge, and Fichajes report the club are eyeing another manager.
Luis Enrique is believed to be someone the club are following closely – but the report does not suggest Potter’s job is under immediate threat.
Enrique has been out of work since leaving his role as Spain boss following the country’s underwhelming World Cup showing.

He was then dismissed by Andre Marriner upon the advice of Video Assistant Referee Tony Harrington.
United held on to win the game 2-1 despite being down to 10 men, but Casemiro’s importance to the team cannot be overstated.
This led to Erik ten Hag and Co considering whether to appeal his red card to try and make him available for the double-header against Leeds and the fixture against Leicester.
Ten Hag admitted the club were considering an appeal, but ultimately opted against it.

Speaking on the suspension, the Dutchman said: “Consider [appealing ban], yeah.

Man City ready to go to war with Premier League over 115 financial charges and could go to SUPREME COURT to clear name

MANCHESTER CITY will throw EVERYTHING they have to beat the Premier League and destroy the financial charges that threaten their top flight status.City chiefs are determined to ensure victory in what has become a fight for survival with Prem bosses after they were charged with 115 breaches of League rules.

    The charges against Man City
SunSport revealed that Prem rivals want City booted out of the top flight if the charges are proved.
But that means the Etihad outfit will fight the process all the way, which could even mean going to the High Court or even the SUPREME Court – the highest legal platform in England – if required.
And just as in their victory over Uefa after the Champions League ban three years ago, City will unleash an army of lawyers to defeat the Prem legal team and put the charges to bed for good.
City remain furious at the timing of Monday’s charge drop, which took place during a telephone conversation between the League club chief executive Ferran Soriano.
    READ MORE ON MAN CITY
Soriano will come face to face with many of his detractors – and the League board that sanctioned the charges – during the two-day series of Prem club meetings beginning in central London on Thursday.
And behind the scenes, City’s utter determination and focus on final victory is no softer than it was during the ultimately-successful spat with Uefa.
The drawn-out battle with Euro chiefs was sparked by the “Football Leaks” cache of documents and emails revealed by German magazine Der Spiegel.
While City angrily and consistently denounced the “illegal hacking and out of context publication” of the emails, they gave in insight into the club’s belligerent approach.

In one email, relating to the first Uefa FFP probe of the club in 2014 – which resulted in a £49m fine – senior City lawyer Simon Cliff revealed chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak had threatened then-Uefa general secretary Gianni Infantino of the club’s stance..
It read: “Khaldoon said he would rather spend £30m on the 50 best lawyers in the world to sue them for the next 10 years.”
City’s stance will be no different against the Prem charges and just as in the 2020 Uefa case the club have insisted it has already delivered a “comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence” to back the defence.
Meanwhile, the former agent of midfielder Yaya Toure, one of the players whose true salary package is alleged to have been hidden by the club as part of the charges laid on Monday, has denied the existence of any secret deal.
City are accused of not providing “full details of player remuneration in its contracts” between 2010 and 1216 but Dmitry Seluk insisted: “Everything was transparent.
“There was nothing on the back side.
“I am interested to see what happens as this was a surprise. Yaya paid everything – tax and everything. It was all transparent.” More
