Cancelo has been one of City’s top players in recent years, but lost his place in the team after the World Cup and was said to have become disruptive.
He started just two Premier League games following his return from Qatar and made the switch to Germany after being overlooked for the FA Cup tie with Arsenal.
Remarkably though, he cost the Bundesliga champions nothing.
That’s because Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed that it was a free loan with no fee.

An option to buy was included in the deal with Cancelo only signing until the end of the season.
But a permanent transfer for the Portugal international will cost Bayern £61.5m.
Regardless, the right-back has enjoyed a fine start to his career Germany.
Just days after his move was confirmed, he was handed his debut in the DFB-Pokal last-16 tie with Mainz.

THE worst clubs in terms of net spending have been revealed. And the list is unsurprisingly dominated by English sides, who make up NINE of the top 10.

Boffins at the CIES Football Observatory have been crunching stats to find the worst net spend offenders since the 2018/19 season.
They looked at the amount spent on incomings and the amount received for outgoings across the 100 most active teams of the last five years.
Incredibly, a quarter of those sides are made up from English clubs – and just two of those, Watford and Norwich, boast a positive net spend.
Chelsea are by far the worst offenders after Todd Boehly’s incredible splurge in the last two windows.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
They boast a total net spend of -£665million, despite having positive net spends in two of the past five years.
Man Utd aren’t far behind in second place with -£595m, having never recorded a positive net spend in the same time period.
And Arsenal, who are in the same boat, are third with -£483m.
The list continues with more English clubs including Tottenham, West Ham and Newcastle.

Aston Villa and Wolves then precede the one non-English side in the top 10, Juventus – who are currently in financial dire straights.
And the group is rounded off by struggling Liverpool.
Down the other end of the table, it is a different story.
Watford are the only English side to sneak into the 20 clubs with the most positive net spends, taking 17th place.
But top of the pile are Benfica, who boast an incredible profit of £329m after selling stars including Enzo Fernandez, Darwin Nunez and Ruben Dias to Premier League sides.
In second place are Lille on £274m, and Ajax are third with £259m. More

Three Man Utd stars competing for iconic No7 shirt next season after it was left vacant following Cristiano Ronaldo axe

THREE Manchester United stars are competing to get their hands on the iconic No7 shirt next season. The squad number has been left vacant ever since Cristiano Ronaldo’s acrimonious exit from Old Trafford.

Squad number seven is iconic at Man UtdCredit: PA
New signings Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer both could have made their bid for it but chose to become No27 and No15 respectively.
The kit with seven on the back is held in legendary status at Man Utd.
Ronaldo wore it across two spells at the club and it has been owned by other world-class stars such as David Beckham and Eric Cantona.
Going further back, legends like George Best, Bryan Robson and Nobby Stiles also wore United’s most iconic number.

Anybody looking to claim it for next year will be hoping to become heroes rather than failures who donned the No7 like Angel Di Maria and Memphis Depay.
Hoping to claim the shirt replacing Ronaldo could reportedly be Jadon Sancho.
The winger was supposedly “stopped” from grabbing the number by Edinson Cavani.
Sancho wore seven on his back during his spell at Borussia Dortmund, which saw him score 50 goals and get 64 assists in 137 games.

Perhaps a new number is the key to unlocking his best form after battling tough times at United.
The club could also look to the future and hand Alejandro Garnacho the No7.
He currently wears No49, which he was given while still a youth team player.
The Argentine is set to be awarded with a bumper new contract that sees him quadruple his current earnings and a better squad number could sweeten the deal.
An outside bet to take the shirt is Antony, who wore it during a brief spell at Sao Paulo.
However, the Brazilian’s preferred kit is the No11 although he wears the No21 currently.
A new signing could take the famous shirt with Declan Rice, Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Victor Osimhen just some of the names big enough to demand to wear seven.
Yet none of those players have an affiliation with it.

Man Utd transfer blow as Napoli president insists club ‘don’t have to sell’ £107m target Osimhen

MANCHESTER UNITED have been warned Napoli are under no pressure to sell star striker Victor Osimhen. The 24-year-old has fired Napoli 13 points clear at the top of the Serie A table in their pursuit of a first title since 1990.

He has been in red hot form this season
But recent reports have emerged suggesting Man Utd are preparing to launch a staggering £107million transfer bid.
Such a deal would equal the current British transfer record set by Chelsea’s acquisition of Enzo Fernandez in January.
However, despite the potentially huge offer, Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis remains defiant over the possibility of a sale.
Speaking to German outlet Bild, De Laurentiis said: “I can tell you that Osimhen is not for sale.

“Our players are in demand, but I don’t have to sell anyone. We don’t have any debts.”
Osimhen’s stock is only on an upward trajectory given the current form he is displaying.
He scored twice in Napoli’s 3-0 win at Spezia over the weekend, taking his Serie A tally for the season up to 16.
Consequently, a reported £133m price tag from the club seems more and more reasonable.

And a spokesman for his club Hayatspor said on Tuesday the winger had been rushed to hospital with unspecified injuries after a miracle rescue.
But today Atsu’s agent Nana Sechere revealed the star’s whereabouts remain unknown.
“Following yesterday’s update from the club that Christian had been pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian’s whereabouts,” he tweeted.
“As you can imagine, this continues to be a devastating time for his family and we are doing everything we can to locate Christian.”

Hayatspor’s doctor has said that efforts to locate the Ghana ace and club sporting director Taner Savut in hospital had proved fruitless – leading to fears he may still be in danger.
“When we heard the news about Taner Savut and Christian Atsu that they were taken to the Dortyol Hospital, we went to the hospital and they were not there,” said Gurbey Kahveci, according to Hurriyet.
He added that at present “unfortunately Taner and Christian Atsu” are being regarded as “not found”.
To add to the confusion, the doctor’s comments come despite Ghana’s ambassador to Turkey saying she had told by officials the player had been found.

The massive 7.8 magnitude quake stuck early on Monday with such force that it moved the country 10ft and killed 11,200 people.
Two further earthquakes struck in the 24 hours after the initial tremor, leaving a trail of destruction stretching for hundreds of miles along Turkey’s border with Syria.
Video showed rescuers with search lights sifting through the wreckage of Atsu’s apartment block during on Monday night.
His voice was then heard in the rubble, along with that of Hatayspor’s Sporting Director Taner Savut, local media reported.
Sechere said he last heard from Atsu at midnight on Sunday, shortly before the quake struck at around 4.20am.
“Christian and his team-mates were playing poker until 3.30am at a friend’s apartment,” he told the Mirror.
“The journey back to his apartment was around half an hour.
“He returned at 4am and the earthquake started around 20 minutes later.
“I was hoping he was awake and that the earthquake hadn’t happened while he was sleeping. He was in an 11-storey building and he was on the ninth floor.”
The London-based agent said he received a call from a club official at 5am asking if he’d heard from the player.
“He told me Christian’s building had been completely destroyed and that they couldn’t get hold of him,” he said.
“The club officials were trying to help me find him but it was so hard because, understandably, they were trying to find their own friends and families as well.”
Eventually he received confirmation from the club that Atsu was safe at 6am on Tuesday morning.
“They told me that he was in hospital and that he is stable,” he said.
Following Sechere’s initial comments, Ambassador Francisca Ashietey-Odunton told Ghana TV that the “ministry of foreign affairs here assured me that he has been found”.

    It comes as…

The death toll has now reached more than 11,200 but up to 20,000 are feared dead across Turkey and Syria.
A series of aftershocks have hampered rescue efforts after the collapse of more than 11,000 buildings.
At least three Brits are missing in the chaos, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly has said.
Trapped victims have reportedly been sending desperate voice notes begging for help.
A grieving father was seen holding the lifeless hand of his daughter whose body was trapped in a destroyed building in Kahramanmaras.
A newborn baby was also pulled alive from the wreckage of a collapsed building in Jindires, Syria, after his mother died giving birth.
Aid and rescuers are pouring in from across the world, including from the UK and war-torn Ukraine.
The Sun has launched the Earthquake Appeal to raise money to help respond to the destruction.

Just hours before the quake struck, Atsu scored deep into stoppage time on Saturday to secure a 1-0 win over Kasimpasa.
“Important win for the team. Happy to be on the scoresheet,” he tweeted.
Footage showed Atsu being mobbed by his teammates as ecstatic fans celebrated the win, along with messages praying for him to be found.
Big-hearted Sun readers have so far raised £250,000 in response to the devastation.
All money from the Sun Earthquake Appeal will be donated to the British Red Cross for a major on-the-ground mobilisation.
Atsu joined Chelsea from Porto for £3.5million in 2013 but didn’t make a single appearance for the Premier League giants.

He also took in loans at Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth, Malaga and Newcastle.

And now Newcastle are one step closer to that goal after agreeing a deal to purchase Strawberry Place from private developers Helios Real Estate and Marrico, according to the Daily Mail.

He used to play in the family home’s living room, reportedly making his parents worry about where they were placing fragile items.
The 23-year-old began making his way to the top by going to his school team’s training sessions with his father.

And once he started to play outside his home, there was no stopping him, signing for an academy in his homeland aged just eight.

Gakpo, 23, was strongly linked with an Old Trafford transfer and came close to a deal last summer.
But the Dutch international was unable to resist when Jurgen Klopp came calling after the World Cup.
And Gakpo ended up swapping PSV Eindhoven for Liverpool in a £35million transfer.
However, the ace has not started well at Anfield, failing to find the target in six matches.

Gakpo, who scored 34 goals in his final 18 months in Eindhoven, has looked uncomfortable playing in a variety of roles for Liverpool.
And PSV boss Van Nistelrooy has reportedly now hit out at Gakpo for ignoring his advice about waiting until the summer for a “dream” switch to United.

The former Red Devil said: “Gakpo’s dream move was Man United. I advised him to wait until the summer.
“Something happened and he refused my advice and listened to Virgil van Dijk who tempted him to join his team.”

New Holland boss Ronald Koeman also feels Gakpo has made a mistake joining Liverpool.
He added: “Gakpo has ended up in a team that is not doing well. If you don’t score or you’re not important and you don’t win matches, it’s very difficult, especially for a young player.
“If that someone aged 28 with experience it would be different. The level in England is higher than in the Netherlands.
“But they are also young boys, aren’t they? Like Ryan Gravenberch going to Bayern Munich and not playing. Then that is difficult.” More
