Tottenham remain fifth in the Premier League table and are still in both the FA Cup and Champions League.
But the wait for a major trophy is set to reach 15 years later this month – their last triumph coming in the 2008 Carabao Cup.
Since then, Leicester have won the Premier League and FA Cup.
And one home supporter revelled in his team’s success by holding aloft an image of an empty trophy cabinet to the travelling supporters, referencing Tottenham’s lack of silverware in recent years.

Conte did secure Champions League qualification for Tottenham last season after a superb end to the campaign.
But they have struggled to build on that as local rivals Arsenal fly high at the top of the table.
However, Spurs fans will still have aspirations of silverware this season in the form of either the FA Cup or Champions League.
The Lilywhites travel to Championship side Sheffield United in the fifth round of the FA Cup on March 1.

But before that they travel to Conte’s home country to take on AC Milan in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday.
They will then welcome the Serie A champions to London for the return leg on March 8.
Spurs’ last major final came in 2021 when they lost 1-0 to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
Meanwhile, Leicester sit 13th in the Premier League table following their win over Tottenham.
And they are now just five points adrift of the top half as they look to recover from a poor first half of the campaign. More

Sacked Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder at Elland Road for Man Utd game as Ten Hag successor a ‘serious target for Leeds job’

SACKED Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder was in attendance for Leeds’ clash against Manchester United. That’s after reportedly becoming a “serious contender” to replace Jesse Marsch.

Schreuder, 50, could be set for an immediate return to football after being fired by Ajax last month.
The Telegraph claims the tactician is high on Leeds’ list following Marsch’s exit.
And an approach could soon be made after caretaker Michael Skubala took charge of Leeds’ consecutive games against United.
Schreuder has held several jobs since he was Erik ten Hag’s No2 in the Dutch capital five years ago.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
He managed German side Hoffenheim and Belgian outfit Brugge before replacing the now-United boss at Ajax last summer.
But Schreuder’s return did not go to plan, winning just 11 of his 20 league matches to leave the champions in fourth place.
However, Leeds sporting director Victor Orta is still said to be a big fan.
And talk of Schreuder taking charge at Elland Road heated up after he was seen watching Leeds’ Premier League battle against United on Sunday.

But should Schreuder get the job, he may need to accept he was Leeds’ FOURTH choice for the role.
The relegation battlers first failed with an approach for Carlos Corberan, who ended up penning a new deal with West Brom.
And Leeds were then rebuffed in their efforts to poach highly-rated Andoni Iraola from flying LaLiga minnows Rayo Vallecano.
But three was not the magic number for Orta when he was also snubbed by Arnie Slot on Friday.
The Feyenoord boss confirmed: “It is true that I will stay with Feyenoord, I can say that with this one. That is clear, fans do not have to be afraid.
“It was a compliment that a club like Leeds was interested, but we are doing something great with Feyenoord.
“We are in a great position in the league, the cup and Europe. There is no disappointment. It’s certainly not a punishment to stay here.” More

Arsenal & Brighton contacted by refs chief with ‘significant human errors’ investigated after controversial VAR blunders

ARSENAL and Brighton have both been contacted by the PGMOL after being on the end of VAR “human errors” on Saturday.Ivan Toney’s equaliser for Brentford in their 1-1 draw with the Gunners should have been ruled out for offside but the VAR failed to draw the lines to disallow it.
VAR failed to rule out Brentford’s goal despite Ethan Pinnock being in an offside position
Brighton were denied a goal when the VAR official drew the lines next to the wrong Brighton player
And at Selhurst Park in a game between Crystal Palace and Brighton, another mistake saw the VAR referee draw lines next to the wrong player when checking Pervis Estupinan’s goal for the visitors – which was disallowed.
Now referee chiefs have contacted both clubs who were on the wrong end of the calls – Arsenal and Brighton – and ensured the matters are being investigated.
A short statement from the PGMOL read: “PGMOL can confirm its Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb has contacted both Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to acknowledge and explain the significant errors in the VAR process in their respective Premier League fixtures on Saturday.
“Both incidents, which were due to human error and related to the analysis of offside situations, are being thoroughly reviewed by PGMOL.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was left raging at the offside call as his side were denied a victory which would have seen them regain their eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
He said: “I’ve looked back at the goal and it was offside. They haven’t explained why it wasn’t ruled out and we’ll be giving our views to the Premier League.
“You have to apply certain principles in defending set-pieces and you do that by sticking to the rules.
“But apparently they were not applied and if you suddenly change those rules you tell us before the game so you don’t defend with the line so high.

“We apply what the referee tells us every single week before the game – that if the  blockers are offside then it will be ruled out.
“I also think their player was offside when he crossed the ball. I was hoping that the cameras and visuals would pick that up because it looks like there were two actions.
“But it’s too late and now we’ve dropped two points.”
Even Brentford boss Thomas Frank admitted: “I agree that when we took the free-kick, Pinnock is [in] an offside position.
“Then, as far as I understand the football laws, the next question is did he influence the cross?
“VAR decided it was not enough to rule out the goal and I agree.
“But every week there are VAR decisions that go marginally one way or the other.”
Following the result, a Manchester City win over Aston Villa on Sunday will give them the chance to knock Arsenal off top spot with victory at the Emirates on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, Brighton’s draw with Palace leaves them four points adrift of fifth-placed Tottenham with two games in hand. More

VAR draws lines next to WRONG PLAYER to rule out Brighton goal at Crystal Palace as Premier League admits huge blunder

THE Premier League has admitted they made a VAR blunder in the game between Crystal Palace and Brighton. Brighton were denied an opening in the match after Pervis Estupinan was deemed to be offside.

However, closer inspection of the lines drawn by VAR shows the line used to indicate the defender was drawn from the WRONG player.
A similar call was made during Arsenal’s clash against Brentford as the Bees’ goal was allowed to stand despite an apparent offside.
Referee body PGMOL released a statement apologising to both Brighton and Arsenal about the respective incidents.
It read: “PGMOL can confirm its Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb has contacted both Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to acknowledge and explain the significant errors in the VAR process in their respective Premier League fixtures on Saturday.

“Both incidents, which were due to human error and related to the analysis of offside situations, are being thoroughly reviewed by PGMOL.”
Brighton went on to draw the game 1-1 as Solly March saw his goal cancelled out by James Tomkins within minutes of scoring.
Ex-Prem ref Peter Walton revealed transparency in decision-making was now being championed under Webb’s guidance.
That came after Tomas Soucek appeared to handle the ball in the penalty area against Chelsea, with the Blues not given a penalty for it.

They botched Luke Ayling’s appearance in their graphic, however, with the defender’s picture seemingly cut onto those of a number of other players.
This gave the effect of Ayling looking like he has multiple limbs – much to the amusement of fans watching at home.
One wrote: “Luke Ayling appears to have turned into Doctor Octopus according to Sky’s matchday graphics.”
A second tweeted: “@SkySports what is up with Luke Ayling!?”

While another added: “Luke Ayling should be in goal with all those arms.”
As it was, Ayling lined up in his usual right-back position for caretaker boss Michael Skubala.
He played the full 90 minutes in mid-week as Leeds drew 2-2 with United at Old Trafford.
The result saw Jadon Sancho return to the limelight, the England international scoring a crucial equaliser in just his second sub appearance since a lengthy absence.

Sancho was restored to Erik ten Hag’s starting XI for the trip to Elland Road, being fielded on the right flank – with Marcus Rashford up against Ayling on the left.
    Sancho’s inclusion wasn’t Ten Hag’s only change.
The Dutchman also opted to bring Harry Maguire back into his starting XI, fielding the Three Lions defender alongside Luke Shaw at centre-back.

But, he failed to impress fans and was subjected to criticism as a result.
Sherwood, who took charge of Tottenham during the 2013-14 season, was quick to rip into the defender while reporting on the match for Sky Sports.
And he did not hold back.
He said: “I don’t want to keep picking on the kid but he needs to be relieved of his duties at the moment.

“I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt because it’s his debut but Pedro Porro is so bad it’s unbelievable.
“His positioning is disgusting, Barnes and Maddison are destroying him down the left hand side.”
Sherwood then took aim at Tottenham chief Daniel Levy for the club’s “poor” recruitment.
“Daniel Levy said this week they’ve spent a lot of money, yes they have, but their recruitment has been very, very poor and this is the latest addition.

“Let’s not make any conclusions yet, but what I’m looking at is a player who doesn’t want to defend, Conte has complained about the defending and this player is struggling to defend, very disappointing.”

Man Utd icon Gary Neville likes Ivan Toney tweet slating disallowed goal vs Arsenal despite controversial late leveller

GARY NEVILLE has “liked” Ivan Toney’s tweet slamming Brentford’s disallowed goal against Arsenal yesterday. The Gunners fumed at referee Peter Bankes after the match, furious that the Bees’ equaliser was allowed to stand.

Replays did show that at least one Brentford star had been offside in the build-up to Toney’s leveller.
But Thomas Franck’s side had already been the victims of a questionable call themselves.
With just 11 minutes on the clock, Bryan Mbeumo thought he’d put the visitors 1-0 up when he converted beyond Aaron Ramsdale.
The goal was harshly chalked off, however, with Mbeumo deemed to have fouled Gabriel in the build-up.

Replays later showed that the Brazilian had in fact slipped.
After the match, Toney quote-tweeted a clip of the incident – posting a gif of a man scratching their head with confusion.
Neville, 47, was clearly amused by Toney’s observation – liking the tweet from his own account.
Arsenal’s 1-1 draw could see Manchester City move to within three points of them with a win over Aston Villa later today.

The title rivals then meet at the Emirates on Wednesday night.
Neville previously maintained that he felt Man City would catch Arsenal to win the Premier League.
But after their 1-0 defeat at Tottenham last weekend, he changed his mind.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, the pundit said on The Overlap: “I think they [Arsenal] played quite well [against Everton], I didn’t think it was a bad one – obviously it’s a bad result for them.
“Do you know something, we were at the City game on Sunday and when the team came through I thought for the first time that Arsenal could win the league.
“And that’s not looking smart after the event because City had lost, but I just thought he [Guardiola] is messing around, he’s tinkering far too much.
“I don’t know why Kevin De Bruyne isn’t playing, I don’t know why Ilkay Gundogan is not playing, I don’t know why Ruben Dias is not back in the centre of that defence with Aymeric Laporte to make them solid.
“I saw the team and I thought, from the point of view of my prediction – which is that City will catch Arsenal – I was less sure on Sunday than I’ve ever been.
“I was pretty certain two weeks ago, I was actually certain on Saturday afternoon, I thought, ‘Right, City will do it proper tomorrow, this will be a proper champion’s performance, he [Pep] won’t mess around’, but if he carries on doing what he’s doing…”
