Chelsea fans alarmed by ‘lack of leaders’ in ‘painful’ video of stony-faced players entering pitch for Southampton loss

CHELSEA fans have been left alarmed by the club’s “lack of leaders.”That’s after a “painful” video emerged of stony-faced players entering the pitch before their sorry defeat to Southampton.

The Blues crashed to a 1-0 home loss on Saturday, with the league’s bottom feeders outplaying them in every department.
Graham Potter was roundly booed by an irate Stamford Bridge crowd at the final whistle.
And the pressure is now on Todd Boehly to make a huge decision after seeing his man deliver just two wins in 14 league matches.
However, it appears the negative mood has transferred itself to the players too.

Chelsea have a whopping 33-man squad after spending £326million on eight new signings in January.
Yet Chelsea fans fear they do not have many natural leaders after veteran duo Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta.
A video from the weekend showed the latter leading his side out for their pre-match warm-up.
But despite Azpilicueta charging through the tunnel with his head held high, his teammates looked less enthusiastic.

The rest of them moved at a slower pace as they emerged on to the turf.
And many had their heads held low, while others simply carried completely blank expressions.
This has now sparked fears among Chelsea fans that the recent bad results have got to the players’ heads.
But it also causing concern that the Blues may have a host of stars on their hands unable to motivate either themselves or their teammates.
One supporter said: “The lack of leaders is actually painful to see. Not a single person responds to Azpi, not a single one looks hyped.
“We literally use to have minimum 6/7 leaders and that’s why we stayed successful during Romans era.”
Another declared: “After Madueke none of them looked liked they cared one bit lmao. You can tell which way the game is going in a couple of phases.
“The warm ups & how the first 15 minutes go. Attitude stinks.”

He formed part of a lethal forward line that also included Roberto Firmino and Salah as the trio fired the Reds to Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup glory during that period.
Salah, in particular, has grabbed a host of headlines after firing 174 goals for the club.
And not many would have argued if the Egyptian was the man picked by his former partner.
However, after being quizzed by 1teamsports on TikTok, he took a while to come up with an answer that surprised everyone.

The player Mane picked was Divock Origi, a striker who also left Merseyside before this season got underway after eight years there.
However, despite being a Kop hero due to a number of vital strikes, the 27-year-old Belgian international struggled for regular action for Liverpool.
And even though he had an excellent scoring record against neighbours Everton and producing a memorable strike versus Barcelona in the Champions League, the powerhouse managed just 41 goals in 175 appearances.
However, even boss Jurgen Klopp backed up Mane’s claim last year when discussing the ace.

The German said: “He [Origi] is a legend on and off the pitch. Fantastic footballer, a world class striker and is our best finisher.
“Everyone would say the same. You see this in training.
“It is a really hard decision to make to leave him out. Everyone loves Divock here.”
Origi has endured a difficult start to life in Italy following his free transfer to AC Milan.
He has scored just twice in 21 outings and was recently named as Serie A’s worst signing of the season.

Gary Neville fears Glazer family will REMAIN at Man Utd as ‘significant shareholders’ even if they agree to sell

GARY NEVILLE says fans fear the Glazer family will try to retain a significant stake in Manchester United instead of selling up and walking away. The Red Devils legend’s concerns follow SunSport’s revelation that United’s US owners are demanding a staggering £6billion  to gain control of Old Trafford.

Neville said: “There is a focus this isn’t one big charade that the Glazers are running for their brothers and sisters to exit and the couple that want to stay in to stay.”
He added: “The whole emphasis from fans is this has to be the end of the Glazer ownership.
“They’ve run out of money and not invested in the stadium.
“The fans want a new stadium — whether that’s Old Trafford refurbished or a new one rebuilt.

“The sporting project they’ve failed on in the last ten years.
“It’s doing quite well at the moment, third in the league, but it’s not where Man United want to be.”
Neville’s comments came as Raine, the bank managing the sale, told bidders not to run public campaigns which could harm the Glazers’ reputation.
Neville also revealed on his podcast that a majority of fans he polled preferred the Qatari bid, rather than rival offers from Sir Jim Ratcliffe or a US investment firm.

This was despite Qatar’s treatment of women, migrant workers and the LGBTQ+ community.
But seeing Manchester City and then Newcastle prosper under Middle Eastern state ownership trumped those concerns, Neville concluded.
He said: “They want a debt-free club. They’ve become harmed mentally by debt over these last few years.
“There’s a feeling they want an ownership that can compete with the Middle East states we have in this league.
“We have already got two state-funded clubs.
“They’ve been allowed to come, so I find it difficult to say Manchester United shouldn’t have a Qatari ownership.
“The horse has bolted in that respect, when Abu Dhabi came into Man City 15 years ago and Saudi Arabia came into Newcastle two years ago.”

And absent Antonio Conte masterminded Tottenham’s win — to move back into the top four —  by sending texts to No 2 Cristian Stellini during the game.
Rice said: “When you play with five at the back and the three, like we set up today, maybe our strikers felt a bit isolated when we got the ball up to them —  they didn’t really have enough around them, not enough support.”
Moyes led West Ham to sixth and seventh in the table in his two complete seasons since returning for a second spell as boss in December 2019.
This term is reminiscent of the relegation battle he faced when he first arrived.

The Hammers offered little as Spurs won thanks to goals from Emerson Royal and Son Heung-min.
And Scot Moyes said: “It’s been a problem all season, we haven’t been able to create.
“The players have been challenged now, let’s see who’s up for the fight.

Spurs are back in the top four for the first time since New Year’s Eve and will stay there for two weeks, with Newcastle in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
They won it with boss Conte resting back in Italy as he continues recovery from gallbladder surgery.
His assistant Stellini said: “Conte sent some texts to the bench and they transferred it to me.
“He is good and can be involved, so that is fine.
“Sometimes I wanted to do things and I asked him — sometimes he told us to wait and sometimes he asked what we felt about players and their stamina.”
Stellini said he did not expect Conte to return for Sunday’s visit of Chelsea but the week after, either for the trip to Wolves or the Champions League last-16 second leg at home to AC Milan.
Son started on the bench  but hit his fifth Prem goal this season four minutes after coming on.
It was only the second time he had been dropped in the league this season — the first coming in September’s 6-2 thrashing of Leicester when he hit a second-half hat-trick.
Son, 30,  said: “Nobody wants to sit on the bench but  you have to accept it.
“The decision is always made by the manager.”

After the game, Stellini was asked when Conte would be back, as the Italian continues his recovery from surgery.
And he revealed his boss could be back in time for the Wolves game on March 4.
He said: “No, I am not expecting Antonio is back for Chelsea but I expect Antonio will be back the week after Chelsea. For Milan or Wolverhampton.
“We have also the game in the FA Cup so maybe not Chelsea but we don’t know, because if Antonio feels well and he can live some stress without some pain or feel something strange, Antonio will be back.”

Conte underwent a procedure to remove his gallblader.
He returned to work to take charge of Spurs’ games against Leicester City and AC Milan.
However, the Premier League-winner admitted he returned to work too soon.
Following medical advice, he has decided to remain in Italy until his body recovers.

Spurs said in a statement: “Following a routine post-operation check in Italy yesterday, Antonio Conte will remain at his family home to recover from his recent surgery.
“Health is the most important consideration and everyone at the club wishes him well. Cristian Stellini will assume first team duties.”
Second half goals from Emerson Royal and Son Heung-min were enough to win Sunday’s London derby against the Hammers.
The vital victory moved Spurs above Newcastle and back into the top four, albeit having played a game more than the Toon.
It also meant Stellini maintained his 100 per cent record when deputising for Conte.

Previously he oversaw wins against Marseille and Manchester City, while he also managed three wins with Inter Milan when Conte couldn’t be on the sidelines in Serie A.
When asked about his record, Stellini said: “No, this happen because Antonio is the gaffer, not because I am the gaffer. I only follow the project of his work and the way he works is really clear.
“I follow this and I use my experience and I use lot of the staff because we work in a team and we work very well.
“I am very happy to work with all of them, especially Ryan [Mason] because he helped me a lot.” More

It was his 17th goal scored from a dead-ball situation and moves him one behind David Beckham’s Premier League record of 18.
Spaniard Selles, 39, who wore a suit, trendy trainers and a black rollneck, was serenaded by the away fans for this stunning victory and in response, the dressing-room are going to get him new ‘clobber’.

“It’s a young squad, so to be able to do deal with those things are difficult. But he has given us a familiar way of playing.

“So, we will be off down to the local suit shop to get him a nice one.
“This is a special moment, a special day for us as a club, and hopefully a springboard to turn things round.

“We have to make sure that we give 100 per cent no matter who the manager is. That’s the task. To do that consistently over the next few games would be massive.”
Whisper it quietly around Old Trafford but there is an argument that Ward-Prowse hits the ball more sweetly and deadly than Goldenballs Becks, 47, ever did in his pomp for Manchester United.
Ward-Prowse said: “It’s a lot of work, a lot of effort, but the rewards come and hopefully it will lead us towards wins and points.
“There is definitely an air of confidence when I strike a free-kick because I have done the practice,
“I have done the pressure moments in training. It’s up to me to go and deliver them.
“When I was a young kid in my mum and dad’s garden that was the aim – to be like David Beckham.
