Kieran Tierney considering Arsenal future and may QUIT after losing place as Premier League rivals plot £30m transfer

KIERAN TIERNEY is considering his future at Arsenal after becoming increasingly frustrated by his lack of action. And ambitious Newcastle are ready to throw the Scottish international full-back a £30million lifeline in the summer.
Kieran Tierney is getting interest from Newcastle after seeing his Arsenal game time cutCredit: Getty
Tierney, 25, has managed just four Premier League starts all season following the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer.
He is cutting an increasingly isolated figure in the dressing room and does not want to spend the next years of his career sitting on the subs’ bench.

Manager Mikel Arteta is sympathetic to his situation and hopes that Arsenal’s impending return to Europa League duty will give Tierney more opportunities.
But that is unlikely to appease the exasperated defender who knows that a number of Premier League rivals are closely monitoring his situation.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
And with Newcastle making no secret of their interest – and with the financial muscle to meet Arsenal’s valuation – a parting of the ways is looking increasingly likely at the end of the season.
Tierney has established himself as a firm fans’ favourite since becoming the last of Unai Emery’s signings for Arsenal when he joined in a £25million deal from Celtic in 2019.
But the way the team is playing this season, with Zinchenko stepping into midfield for much of the match, does not suit Tierney’s style.
And even when Zinchenko was sidelined by injury throughout the whole of October, Arteta preferred to play Takehiro Tomiyasu at left-back ahead of Tierney.

With Arsenal going flat out to win their first Premier League title since 2004, Tierney has made it clear that he is not going to rock the boat and will continue to give 100 percent commitment.
And despite his shortage of recent minutes – his last league start came on Boxing Day – his transfer value has nevertheless increased on the back of his first three seasons at the Emirates.
It was on Arteta’s recommendation that the player was rewarded with a new five-year contract in 2001.
But his £100,000-a-week wages will limit the number of potential buyers and Arsenal could be reluctant to sell him to Newcastle if they are going to be regarded as potential top four rivals.
Arteta, though, is unlikely to stand in the way of his departure as he has both Tomiyasu and recent signing Jakub Kiwior who can act as back-up to Zinchenko.
Nuno Tavares has also been a surprise success since joining Marseilles on loan this season but is unlikely to return to the Emirates and will probably be sold in the summer. More

How Man Utd’s secret weapon Benni McCarthy has transformed Rashford into most feared striker in Europe

MARCUS RASHFORD is now one of the most-feared forwards on the planet – and a lot of it is down to ex-Blackburn and West Ham striker Benni McCarthy. The 45-year-old former South Africa international arrived at Manchester United along with Erik ten Hag last summer.

He was named as the club’s new specialised attacking coach, and his star pupil is undoubtedly the Premier League’s most in-form player.
The England striker scored just five goals last season but already has a career-best 24 this campaign after his two-goals in the 3-0 win over Leicester on Sunday.
And during the game it was not only Rashford’s name being sung by the Stretford End, McCarthy’s was too.
The veteran’s one-on-one sessions have helped transform Rashford’s confidence and turn him into a much more direct striker.

And the ace’s heading ability has also improved dramatically, as his recent goals against Leeds and West Ham have proven.
Supporters hailed McCarthy as the club’s “signing of the season” last week.

McCarthy got his initial big move from his homeland to Ajax in 1997 and went on to enjoy a spell in Spain with Celta Vigo before a transfer to Porto.
There he memorably scored against United as Jose Mourinho’s Porto dumped them out of the Champions League on their way to winning the trophy in 2004.

He scored 37 times in 109 appearances during his four years at Blackburn prior to joining West Ham in 2010, but he struggled in East London and returned home to Orlando Pirates in the South African Premier Division for two seasons before retiring.
McCarthy then embarked on his coaching career as an observer at Hibernian and then as assistant manager at Belgian side Sint-Truiden before becoming boss at Cape Town City in 2017 and winning South Africa’s MTN 8 Cup.
He then joined AmaZulu and led them into the CAF Champions League following the club’s best-ever league finish but left them to join Ten Hag at United in August.
Upon his arrival, he said: “[I want to] help these young players, push them, change their mindset and really try to make the difference to United this season.
“Hopefully this season we’re going to see a completely revived United, a hungry bunch of players and a team that’s going to be able to challenge to get into the Champions League and change the dynamics of the Man Citys and Liverpools.”
He later explained the key things he would be working on were “coordinating movements and finishing and making sure that the guys are sharp and that they’re ready and that the goalscoring continues and that they get the right goal scoring boots on.”
And Rashford has not hidden how much McCarthy – who speaks English, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese fluently – has benefitted his game.
He recently said: “He’s definitely helped me a lot. To have attack-minded coaches is good for us. He’s always there speaking to us about these things.”
Now supporters and McCarthy will be desperate for Rashford’s hot-streak to continue at Wembley this Sunday when United face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup Final. More

Newcastle fans hatch wild plan to try and allow suspended Nick Pope to play in Carabao Cup final

NEWCASTLE fans have hatched a wild plan that would allow Nick Pope to play in the Carabao Cup final. The goalkeeper was sent off in the Toon’s loss to Liverpool in the Premier League, meaning he is suspended for the clash with Manchester United at Wembley.

Loris Karius is set to play in the Carabao Cup finalCredit: Getty
Second choice stopper Martin Dubravka can also not play as he is cup tied having represented the Red Devils earlier on in the competition while on loan at Old Trafford.
Additionally, Karl Darlow is at Hull until the end of the season, so manager Eddie Howe has to select Loris Karius or Mark Gillespie as the club go for their first major trophy since 1954/55.
Karius is best known for his horror mistakes while at Liverpool in the Champions League final in 2018 and he has not yet played for Newcastle.
Meanwhile, Gillespie has only ever featured three times for the club and has not stood between the sticks since 2020.

Therefore, Newcastle fans have come up with a creative and bonkers idea to get Pope to play.
Some desperate supporters have suggested he gets loaned out to English sixth tier side Blyth Spartans and he serves his suspension there.

They can still sign players because their league’s transfer window is open until March.
Blyth Spartans face Telford United on Saturday, which would allow him to miss one match for them, get recalled by Newcastle, and then face Man Utd on Sunday.

However, having investigated the rules, this plan would not be allowed as no team can deregister and re-register a player in the same week.
It’s certainly a unique attempt at finding a way around the rules, which shows fans clearly don’t have much hope in Karius, who is expected to play.
A member of the Newcastle faithful even photoshopped Pope in a disguise and joked how much the forgotten man Karius has changed since his howlers for Liverpool. More

However it is the most time he has seen on the pitch as he has been left out of the club’s squads in recent weeks – last playing in the goalless draw with Liverpool last month.
Aubameyang was cut from Graham Potter’s Champions League squad as he preferred attackers Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk to the Gabon star.
Although they have not been firing in the goals either this season, as Potter’s side has slumped to 10th in the Premier League table.
The last result was a terrible 1-0 loss to bottom-of-the-table Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
