Left-back Maatsen, who joined on loan from Chelsea at the start of the campaign, has been key to their superb season with four goals and five assists so far.

But, with Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella both ahead of him at Stamford Bridge, the club are expected to be open to another loan move.

Olivier Giroud wants ANOTHER London move as ex-Chelsea and Arsenal star eyes shock transfer

OLIVIER GIROUD is open to a move back to the Premier League — at a London club. The French veteran striker has one eye on a move away from AC Milan, where his contract runs out in the summer.

World Cup finalist Giroud was a star for Arsenal and Chelsea but could be a real coup for one of the lesser clubs if they can fund his wages.
He was a late target for Everton in the last window but did not want to be that far away from the capital.
If he does leave the San Siro, the 36-year-old will not be short of admirers after a long career at the top level.
West Ham, Fulham, Crystal Palace and Brentford could all be potential destinations for Giroud, with the Hammers and Eagles particularly short of goals this season.

The forward needs only to look at former Chelsea team-mate Willian and his career turnaround at Craven Cottage to be tempted to moving back to the capital.
Giroud has led the line for AC Milan this season and delivered seven goals and four assists.
It follows on from his nine-year stay in England where he first spent six years at the Emirates before making the switch to west London.
He would win the FA Cup a combined four times and pick up a Champions League medal with Chelsea in 2021.

Giroud’s best goal-scoring season would come in the 2015-16 campaign when he notched up 24 goals for Arsenal in all competitions.
Perhaps his most well-remembered goal was his jaw-dropping scorpion-kick effort against Crystal Palace in 2017. More

Newcastle to take on Tottenham for ‘Guernsey Grealish’ but young midfielder has £25m transfer price-tag

NEWCASTLE are considering a move for Bristol City youngster Alex Scott. The midfielder, 19, has attracted interest from a host of top Premier League clubs after an impressive season under Nigel Pearson.

Scott was a target for Wolves in the January window, though the Championship club were thought to have slapped a whopping £25million price tag on the England Under-20 international.
Tottenham, West Ham and Crystal Palace are all tracking Scott’s progress, while Newcastle scouts have kept a keen eye on his performances this term.
Scott has five assists for Pearson’s City side so far this season and is emerging as one of the brightest young talents in the second tier.
The Robins, who sold striker Antoine Semenyo to Bournemouth in the summer, are braced for further interest in Scott this summer.

Scott joined the club as a 16-year-old in 2020 from FC Guernsey and is viewed as the ideal profile for the Toon as they continue to develop under Eddie Howe.
The Magpies have shied away from huge money star signings since their Saudi-backed takeover, with Howe keen to develop young players at St. James’ Park.
Scott has drawn comparisons with Man City ace Jack Grealish due to the way he runs with the ball, and has an eye for a pass, and has been dubbed the ‘Guernsey Grealish’.
But last week, he said he would be happy to follow in the footsteps of Jude Bellingham by moving abroad to further his career.

Bellingham swapped Birmingham City for Borussia Dortmund, where he has blossomed into one of the best midfielders in the world in 2020.
“Jude has almost set the bar for any young lad in England to go abroad,” Scott told Bristol Live.
“I think another lad who was in our Euros squad, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, is at Borussia Dortmund too. He moved over there as a young lad at 16.
“Seeing what they’re doing, I think it motivates a lot of young lads who maybe are on a similar path.
“I think it’s becoming a lot more normal for lads from England to go abroad and get their chance because, obviously, it’s hard to get your chance in the Premier League at a young age over here.” More

But many Arsenal supporters thought they had taken the lead in the first period when Bukayo Saka put the ball in the back of the net.
And Wright, who was watching in a studio alongside Alan Shearer, was so ecstatic that he jumped out of his seat.
What the Arsenal icon failed to see was that the flag had gone up for offside.
And when Shearer made him aware it was not going to stand, the change in his demeanour left those on social media in hysterics.

Later on in the programme, Wright watched his own reaction back and looked somewhat embarrassed.
But he had the final laugh as Arsenal ended up claiming the win over Leicester to move five points clear at the top of the table.
That was despite Saka AND Leandro Trossard both having goals ruled out.
Trossard’s strike was chalked off by VAR after Leicester keeper Danny Ward was adjudged to have been fouled in the build-up.
Wright was also left furious with the officials for failing to award a penalty when Harry Souttar hauled down Saka.
He said: “That was a ridiculous decision. A phenomenal mistake.”
Shearer agreed, adding: “Yes, definitely, 100 per cent. How can they not give? Yeah it was an accidental slip but that doesn’t matter.” More

But the Black Cats stopper could make the full squad for next month’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine, or be taken along to train with the team.
Patterson was being scouted as a potential fourth-choice for the Three Lions even before a calf injury KO’d Crystal Palace keeper Sam Johnstone until April.
The 22-year-old has played in all of Sunderland’s 34 league games so far this season, conceding 38 goals.
The club currently sit 9th in the Championship and four points off the play-offs after back-to-back defeats to Rotherham and Coventry.

Patterson has been at the club since 2018 but last season spent time away on loan at Notts County to develop his skillset.

The 28-year-old, who signed a new contract at Everton earlier this week, was the number 1 at the last two World Cups and the 2020 Euros.
But his position could come under increased scrutiny as his fellow English goalies fight for the jersey.

Greenwood, 21, was cleared of any wrongdoing earlier this month when the Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.
The England international thought he would then be able to restart his career, but United immediately announced it would “now conduct its own process before determining next steps”.
The aim of the review is to give United’s leadership team a more complete understanding of the circumstances around the allegations made against Greenwood by a woman in January 2022, which led to his arrest.
The star remains suspended while the probe is completed.
    READ MORE ON MASON GREENWOOD
Greenwood met with the club prior to United’s Europa League first leg clash against Barcelona on 16 February.
A source said: “Mason and his team met with the club to start the process of trying to get to the bottom of exactly what may or may not have happened.
“It is an extremely sensitive situation and the club think it is only fair that Mason is given the opportunity to fully explain himself.
“The club are keen to hear his version of events. Only when they have the full picture, can they start to move things forward.”
    Most read in Football
There is no timeline on the investigation being concluded but a source told The Sun on Sunday Greenwood does not believe he will play this season, even if the club decide to keep him.
He is unable to train or play for United, while the investigation is ongoing, but is being paid his £75,000-a-week wage.
The Sun on Sunday previously told how manager Erik ten Hag had held a telephone conversation with Greenwood after the charges were dropped.
And it was revealed yesterday that Greenwood is set to become a dad for the first time with his partner.
A source close to the couple said: “They and their families are both very happy and really looking forward to the baby’s arrival.”
It comes after The Sun revealed that the Three Lions ace had secret meetings with his teammates after the case against him was withdrawn.
However, Greenwood’s hopes of a return to Old Trafford were endangered amid opposition from United’s female stars.
The women’s team were said to be “disturbed” by the prospect of his return.
Likewise, female fans of the club said that they felt he should never play for the club again.
Meanwhile, a top sports lawyer said Greenwood may have lost “millions” after being dropped by major sponsors Nike.

A PR expert added that any club taking him on, should United let him go, would take on a huge financial risk.
Despite this, a Champions League team have made “inquiries” over a possible transfer, while Greenwood himself was reported to be eyeing a move abroad to restart his career if he’s dropped by his current club.

Danny Ings opened the scoring in the 70th minute before netting a second moments later.
Declan Rice made sure of the result in the 78th minute before Michail Antonio joined in the fun five minutes from time.
But Hammers fans reckon it was the introduction of goalkeeper Areola that turned the game around.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star, 29, started Saturday’s game on the bench.

However, he came on just one minute before Ing’s opener after Lukasz Fabianski suffered an eye injury.
The veteran Pole took a knee to the head from Forest defender Felipe.
And Areola was hauled off the bench for just his second league appearance of the season.
But the 2018 France World Cup winner had an immediate positive effect on teammates as Ings fired home the hosts’ first.

And as West Ham went on to torment Forest’s goal, many fans hailed Areola for turning them into a carbon copy of former side PSG.
One said: “Areola comes on and we turn into PSG.”
Another declared: “Areola comes on and we score 4…”
One noted: “Areola masterminding 4 goals as he walked onto the pitch.”
Another added: “He’s only been on the pitch 3 minutes and we scored twice.
“Areola is my man of the match.”
Areola started his pro career with PSG and made his first-ever appearance in the 2012-13 campaign.
But he was never able to command a regular starting spot and took in loans at Villarreal, Real Madrid and Fulham.
Areola spent last season on loan with the Hammers, making 18 appearances.
And Moyes was left so impressed he signed the Frenchman permanently for £10.5million last summer.

Areola has now made a total of 30 appearances for West Ham since his initial loan move.
And he could now be set for an extended run in the side should Fabianski’s injury turn out to be serious. More
