Tottenham fans stunned at Conte’s Manager of the Month shortlist nod… despite only attending one DEFEAT after surgery

CRISTIAN STELLINI might have been in charge for all three of Tottenham’s February wins – but he is happy for absent Antonio Conte to get the credit.Conte is set to be on the shortlist for the Premier League Manager of the Month award.

That is despite Spurs losing the only league game he was present for.
Conte’s gallbladder surgery caused him to miss the 1-0 February 5 win over Manchester City.
He returned to the dugout too early to see a 4-1 Prem pasting at Leicester and the 1-0 Champions League loss at AC Milan before taking more time to recover.
Spurs then beat West Ham and Chelsea but Conte was in constant contact with Stellini as his side battled back into the top four.

He even made in-game decisions by phone.
Fans have certainly been left baffled, with one saying: “Would be so Spursy if Conte wins a manager of the month award when he’s not even been in the country.”
Another declared: “He could be only manager in history to win with a 100 per cent losing record.”
One noted: “Give the award to Conte and let Stellini manage out of the limelight.”

Another added: “That’s BS, don’t give it to us as that will be embarrassing.”
But Stellini believes Conte has played his part, saying: “Antonio was still with us so, if this happens, I’m happy for him.
“This could be a great opportunity to be proud of all the staff, not just me.
“We work very closely as a team and are very excited to work together.”

Stellini will be in charge again tonight as Spurs go to Championship high-fliers Sheffield United for their fifth round FA Cup clash.
But Conte, 53, is set to return for Saturday’s Prem trip to Wolves.
Asked if Tottenham’s good form has helped Conte’s recovery, Stellini said: “We didn’t speak about it but my feeling is our results have created positive energy in Antonio.

“When you have positive energy, you recover better. And for sure, he will come back with a good energy and positive vibes.”
Spurs could mix up their side at Bramall Lane after making no changes for the wins over West Ham and Chelsea.
One man who is likely to keep his place is Harry Kane, despite being rested for the 3-0 fourth-round win at Preston.
But Blades manager Paul Heckingbottom has worked out how to stop the England hero scoring.
He said: “The only way you guarantee it, is not to let him within 40 yards of your goal.

‘I cannot believe what he’s done’ – Gary Neville reveals four incredible upgrades Erik ten Hag has made to Man Utd

United lifted the Carabao Cup on Sunday, their first piece of silverware for six years.
And Neville was quick to heap praise on the Dutchman – insisting he has got all the big calls right.
Ten Hag has had his fair share of challenges from dealing with Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit to overseeing the transfer window as well as managing Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho amid their own struggles.
But the former right-back told The Overlap: “I think we need to retain our calmness because of what’s happened before, but to deal with Harry Maguire, Sancho, Ronaldo, the poor transfer window chasing Frenkie de Jong.

“We walked into his office in the midst of a massive crisis where fans at that point were angry.
“Angry on the pitch, angry off the pitch, nothing was going right.
“I can’t believe what he’s done in six months, I cannot believe what he’s done.”
Neville compared the tactical prowess Ten Hag has displayed to that of legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

And that includes the way he has used substitutions wisely in an era where he feels lots of strange changes are made by managers.
Neville continued: “What we saw in that final on Sunday was, for me, what Manchester United was like under Sir Alex Ferguson.
“We’d win games in different ways, it could be electric, it could be counter-attacking. It could be resilient, defensive, deep, compact. It could be nasty.
“I never want him to change the way we’ve played over the last couple of weeks.
“There are times when Jose [Mourinho] was at Chelsea and he made substitutions and Sir Alex would do the same thing and you think, ‘What’s he doing?’ And then they would work.
“Ten Hag’s done that now five or six times in the last few months.
“He’s made substitutions and even on Sunday I didn’t think [Marcel] Sabitzer and [Scott] McTominay would come on.
“I thought he’d bring a wide player on, [Alejandro] Garnacho or Sancho, and a midfielder.
“That surprised me but it got Manchester United back in control. Every time he makes a change it has a massive impact.”

Man Utd still want Frenkie de Jong transfer this summer as Barcelona midfielder impresses in Europa League clash

De Jong showed off his press resistance in the home leg of the Europa League clash
However, Erik ten Hag has remained keen on signing him.
According to Sport, United are planning to make two major signings in the summer window.
One of the priorities is a new midfielder, particularly with a profile to complement Casemiro.
Ten Hag wants to add a player with a strong ability to build up play from deep, a role De Jong can certainly fulfil – as proven in the Man Utd and Barcelona clash in the Europa League.

He is also equally comfortable as the deepest player in the midfield if required.
The report describes De Jong, 25, as being “key” to Ten Hag’s system at former club Ajax.
Current club Barcelona remains in need of departures in order to help balance the books, which has left them open to selling De Jong.
But should a move not transpire as hoped, United have contingency plans.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was ‘annoyed with star’s behaviour’ before shipping him out on loan transfer

The 23-year-old only moved to the Gunners from Benfica in 2021 but struggled to make an impact in the Premier League.
He made just 22 top-flight appearances for Arsenal before the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko forced him to look elsewhere for first-team action.
He has enjoyed a rollercoaster start to life in France.
Tavares has managed to score six times for Marseille to win over supporters but his hot-headnesses has landed him in disciplinary trouble.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
Last month he was sent off late on in his side’s 2-1 win over Montpellier for viciously kicking opponent Arnaud Souquet and was reprimanded by the club.
Montpellier defender Christopher Jullien was furious with Tavares’ challenge on his team-mate, with the pair becoming involved in a shoving match.
Incredibly Tavares was initially only shown a second yellow card, before it was upgraded to a straight red following a VAR review.
His latest outing was in Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat to Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain where local media slammed his performance.

Tavares was deployed in the unfamiliar position of right-back for the game by manager Igor Tudor before his poor first half display led to him switching to his natural side.
However, that failed to have any impact as both he and his team-mates were easily swept aside by PSG.
L’Equipe claims that he “sometimes seemed lost on the pitch” during the match.
And then they state that Arteta and his staff were “often annoyed with his behaviour” and that is why they agreed to loan him to Marseille.
But Arsenal have obviously not given up hope on Tavares developing into a top player.
They refused to include an agreement to buy in the deal with Marseille – that is despite the star himself admitting that he wanted one inserted. More

And it is understood the Reds have no intention of offering the Guinea international an extension, instead allowing him to leave for free.
Now Bild report Dortmund and RB Leipzig will battle it out to bring him back to the Bundesliga.
Keita, 28, spent two years with Leipzig between 2016 and 2018 before joining Liverpool in a bumper £52.75million deal.
But despite winning the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield, Champions League and Club World Cup during his trophy-laden five years, he has struggled to nail down a regular first-team spot under Jurgen Klopp.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
Keita, who has struggled with injuries throughout his Liverpool career, has made 129 appearances – with 77 of those as a starter.
The No 8 is behind Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Stefan Bajcetic in the central midfield pecking order – with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Artur Melo also vying for a spot when fit.
However, Keita’s five-year stint looks set to end in four months’ time as the Reds look to try and land a super deal for Jude Bellingham.
Keita joining Dortmund could boost Klopp’s chances of landing the English teenager amid competition from Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid.

However, a return to familiar surroundings at Leipzig may be preferable for Keita.
Dortmund and Leipzig have become rivals on the pitch in recent years, often battling it out to be the best of the rest behind Bayern Munich.
But they have also had their fair share of transfer tussles – including for Bellingham, Erling Haaland, Lukas Klostermann, Timo Werner and, most recently, Austrian midfielder Nicolas Seiwald who will swap Red Bull Salzburg for RB Leipzig in the summer. More
