Unlike some of the more high-profile stars he was up against, Oleksy does not play football full-time and has a day job working in construction as a excavator operator.
But he believes nothing much will change in his life – despite his extraordinary overhead kick gaining global recognition.
He told Eurosport: “I am still the same Marcin. I don’t think anything has changed.
“There are more phone calls and there is media interest but I haven’t changed. I watch the goal online with fans but it won’t change who I am.

“I love scoring goals like this. You can see that when I train, it’s very much part of my game.”
Oleksy suffered his life-changing accident in 2010 but has continued a career in football at Polish club Warta Poznan.
His extraordinary goal means he follows the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in winning the Puskas Award, given to the scorer of the most impressive strike of the year.

That has led to interest from the likes of Newcastle, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and the winger’s favourite club Real ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Georgia international’s agent Mamuka Jugheli suggested the reigning Spanish champions have the advantage in the ongoing bidding war.
That is because the 22-year-old is a lifelong “Madridista”, even though his rep and father are big Barcelona fans.
However, Kvaratskhelia remains focused on the Partenopei amid a stunning campaign for Luciano Spalletti’s men.

Jugheli told Geo Team: “His father and I are Barca fans, but Kvara loves Real Madrid.
“If I see him in a Barca shirt I’ll be happy, but he’s Madridista.

That is because Napoli will sit down with his representatives at the end of the campaign and offer a deal worth £2.2million-a-season, plus bonuses, until 2028.
That sum works out at around £42,000-a-week before add-ons.
The Georgian has been tremendously influential at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona with the Serie A giants on course for their first title in 33 years.

Premier League chief’s bold vow over Newcastle ownership resurfaces after bombshell Saudi court revelation

PREM bosses have been left panicking over how to react to the latest Newcastle ownership row.SunSport revealed how Toon chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan told a US court he could not be compelled to give evidence because he was “a sitting minister of the Saudi government”.
Newcastle’s takeover was approved in October 2021Credit: PA
That appeared to fly in the face of the “legally binding assurances” that the Saudi state – through its Public Investment Fund – would not control Newcastle when the Prem gave the green light to the £300m takeover in October 2021.
A number of clubs are now demanding the Prem investigates further.
They are pointing to chief executive Richard Masters’ vow that the League could “remove the consortium as owners of the club in accordance with the rules” if the undertakings were broken.
But Masters declined to make any response when approached for comment yesterday, with League officials likewise unwilling to answer any questions.

That appeared to signal concerns and uncertainty over the League’s next steps but is likely to further antagonise the clubs demanding some kind of action.
It came as human rights group Amnesty International said the Prem could not sit on its hands and needed to at least investigate the issue.
Amnesty’s Peter Frankental said: “It was always stretching credulity to breaking point to imagine that the Saudi state wasn’t directing the buyout of Newcastle with the ultimate aim of using the club as a component in its wider sportswashing efforts.
“There’s an unmistakable irony in the sovereign wealth fund declaration emerging in a dispute about another arm of Saudi Arabia’s growing sports empire.

“The simple fact is that Saudi sportswashing is affecting numerous sports and governing bodies need to respond to it far more effectively.”
Amnesty also brought up the potential Qatari takeover at Manchester United.
Frankental added: “The Premier League will surely need to re-examine the assurances made about the non-involvement of the Saudi authorities in the Newcastle deal, not least as there’s still a Qatari bid for Manchester United currently on the table.”
Meanwhile, despite Al-Rumayyan’s legal claims, Toon director Amanda Staveley insisted there was a clear dividing line between the running of the club and the Saudi state.
Speaking at the FT Business of Football summit in London, she said: “The undertaking was that Saudi Arabia would not control the club.
“That undertaking has been and is being honoured.”
My husband and I are not that wealthyAmanda Staveley
She added: “We are partners with PIF, who are effectively a pension fund, managing money for future generations.
“PIF are very long-term investors. My husband and I are not that wealthy, Jamie Reuben is extraordinarily wealthy and we are the poor partners.

“That helps govern a lot of the decisions.”
Quizzed over whether the Saudis might sell up to own a bigger Prem club, she added: “I don’t think so. That’s not my belief. I can’t speak for PIF but I don’t see that.”

Emi Martinez drops major hint on his future as he eyes challenge as tough as winning World Cup

EMI MARTINEZ confessed his next challenge could be as tough as winning the World Cup – as he set his sights on ending Aston Villa’s 27-year-wait for a major trophy. The 30-year-old was voted Fifa’s World goalkeeper of the year this week and has won the Copa America as well as the World Cup in a fairytale 20-month period.

Rumours persist that Martinez will be chased by a host of European big boys in the summer.
And he was slammed by Villa boss Unai Emery for his role in the loss to Arsenal last month.
But Martinez has shot down rumours of a rift between himself and manager Emery and claimed speculation linking him with a move this summer is wide of the mark.
“I want to achieve something that no one achieves, or it’s been hard to achieve,” the Villa keeper revealed during a BT Podcast – Mike Calvin’s People.
    Read More on Football
“Obviously, people were saying, after the Copa America after the World Cup, Emi is going to go and play Champions League and he’s going to leave.
“And I’m thinking, yeah, that’s the easiest part. You know that that’s easy leaving now in January going to a club playing the Champions League and all that.
“It seems everything is easy. Actually, it was a real challenge for me. Winning a World Cup for Argentina after 36 years. Yes. Beating the champions of America after 28 years in the Maracana.
“That was a challenge. Winning the Finalissima against the champions of Europe was a challenge.

“And now we need something for Aston Villa after 30 years? I don’t know how long it was. 40 years? You know, that’s a challenge.
“And that’s something I’m made for – for challenges, for not always having the easy way out.”
Emery was also Martinez’s manager at Arsenal but overlooked his No3 keeper at that time.
However Martinez praised his Spanish boss, despite Emery criticising his decision to go up for a late corner against Arsenal recently, which cost his side a stoppage time goal in a 4-2 home defeat.
The Argentine No1 clearly doesn’t hold a grudge and said: “We’ve got one of the best managers for winning things in Europe. So I’m up for the challenge.” More

    I’m a former Premier League striker – now I run a 10-bedroom B&B in York

A FORMER Premier League striker told how he gave up football to run a B&B in York.Sunderland legend Marco Gabbiadini, 55, embarked on the unlikely second chapter after giving up football at the age of 35.

His Bishops guest house, which he opened in 2003, is now recognised as one of the best B&Bs in York.
Marco told the Sun: “You have to have a plan for when you retire. And we had four kids who were under 11 at the time.
“I did my coaching badges, but being a manager wasn’t what I envisaged doing for the rest of my life.
“My wife and I are both from York. A lot of footballers have that dilemma where their missus is from Liverpool or Southampton, so where do you end up?
    Read More Football
“And both are families came from the hotel and guest house business, so I suppose when you roll all those things together it wasn’t a bad choice. After all, it’s York’s biggest industry.
“So we bought an ongoing business, because it would’ve been difficult to start something like this from scratch.”
    Most read in The Sun
A hands-on owner, Marco admitted that running the guest house is a hard job.
Sometimes he has to roll up his sleeves and do some manual labour around the building.
Marco said: “It’s just like running a big family. The hardest thing is you’ve got to be flexible.
“We get up really early in the morning and you can still be waiting for people to check in at 11pm at night.
“You always have to have your shoes on, you always have to smart. We do have staff, but we live on site.
“And you have to always be prepared for anything. You can come into a room one day and someone’s had an accident and spilled coffee on the mattress.
“Then, you have to quickly go to a shop, find a replacement mattress because the next person’s checking in that afternoon.
“I cook breakfast some days and I’ll do some of the handyman stuff, like bleeding radiators or fixing toilets.
“I can do most things – plumbing, painting and decorating, but we will also get the professionals in too.
“We’ve had family that have grown up in it, and now they’re older they can run it when we go away.”
Marco added that he and his wife Deborah are brutally honest with each other during the working day.
He said: “For us it is great, we’re both people who like to get things off our chests.
“I was a bit like that in the dressing room too. It’s better not to keep grudges, tell someone what you think.
“So, if I make a mistake or error, she’ll tell me and vice versa.”
The guest house itself has 11 big letting rooms, blending a mix of modern and classic in their decor.
Marco said: “The scale of the house allows us to have spacious rooms, our bigger rooms are 22 feet square.
“They’ve all got sofas in them, so we’re going more high-end.
“When there’s race meets, and during the summer, our bigger rooms can be from £140-£170 a night at the weekend.
“But midweek, we are flexible, and it’s always best to book with us directly because we can do a better deal.”
TripAdvisor can make-or-break any business, and with the bed and breakfast industry being so competitive in York, Gabbiadini keeps an eye on what’s said about Bishops online.
Marco said: “It’s bit like a footballer saying they don’t read the sports pages in the paper.
“When you’re a guest house owner, you DO read the TripAdvisor reviews!
“But it’s Deborah’s job to reply to everyone, she’s the diplomat in the house.”
It’s better not to keep grudges, tell someone what you thinkMarco Gabbiadini
However, the reviews are mostly positive and it’s earned the couple a string of awards in the process.
Marco said: “We’ve entered the York Tourism Awards ‘Guest House of the Year’ competition four times and won it three, which is pretty good going.
“You always going to get people that are going to be unhappy. But if you’ve got 600 or 700 reviews saying you’re doing the right thing, then that’s good too.
“It a British guest house is such a traditional thing. I think a really comfortable bed and good breakfast is the key to being successful.
“It’s that simple really, but it’s what’s the most important.”
As a player, Gabbiadini didn’t win too many awards himself.
But one Third Division title with The Black Cats made him a hero at Roker Park.
And on the top floor, a painting of their former forward sits above a cabinet of a handful of golden boots from the lower divisions.
He told the Sun: “The painting was a gift from Bob Murray, the former chairman at Sunderland.
“When I left the club he gave that to me, it was a drawing of a couple of pictures of me, and it’s lovely to be appreciated.
“I didn’t win too many awards, but I think I won Player of the Season for my clubs six times and made over 700 appearances.
