Man Utd icon Gary Neville makes outrageous bet with Arsenal fan that will mean excruciating forfeit if Gunners win title

With only 13 games remaining, many are starting to believe that Mikel Arteta’s side can claim a first title triumph since 2003-04.
And even Sky Sports pundit Neville, who won the top-flight eight times with the Red Devils, seems to be swaying a little.
He has remained adamant for months that second-placed Man City would eventually overtake the North London side and clinch a third-successive title.
Neville did admit this week that he is now less confident about that following the thrashing of the Toffees, but insisted that he still believes Pep Guardiola’s men would eventually just pip them.

Now he has agreed to a bet on social media that will see him wear a Gunners jersey labelled “champions” if Arsenal do go all the way.
The Twitter user had originally posted that he wanted the 48-year-old Neville to “shave his head bald on the Emirates pitch on the last day of the season for charity” if they win it.
That did not appeal to Neville, who instead offered an alternative by stating: “I will wear an Arsenal shirt saying champions for you my friend!”
Neville then revealed that a punishment lays in store for the Gooner if Arsenal falter, as he added: “But if you lose it you all grovel on here and say ‘Sorry Gary’.”

On a recent episode of his The Overlap podcast, Neville said: “We have this little [WhatsApp] group on Sky and obviously they know that I’ve nailed my colours to the mast that City are going to win the league and I’ve been getting a lot of stick from Arsenal fans.
“But after the Villa game I got on the group [and there were messages saying] ‘unbelievable win for Arsenal’ and I replied: ‘It’s all too desperate, too much emotion too early.’
“I think I’ll be right at the end of the season but I might not be – and it sounds daft but emotion in football when you’re playing and you’re that desperate and you celebrate that much, and you’ve still got half the race to go almost, it’s not a good thing.
“You ordinarily don’t celebrate that hard. So after the Villa game, I could understand how big a moment it was, and actually to be fair I didn’t say this publicly, but I thought, ‘That’s quite desperate quite early’.
“The emotion is something that is a negative, it’s not a positive in a title race, for me, honestly. You’re right to be worried [about emotional fatigue].” More

Jesus, 25, joined Arsenal in a £45million deal from Manchester City last summer.
And he made an immediate impact up top, scoring five goals in 14 games to send the Gunners top of the table.

However, Jesus is yet to play for Arsenal since November after suffering a knee injury at the World Cup.
The forward had to go under the knife to solve the issue.

And he has since been recovering while watching the likes of Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard fill his boots.
It’s now reckoned Jesus is about a fortnight away from returning to the matchday squad.
The Samba star has been training with teammates at their London Colney base.
And Arteta admits he can’t wait to welcome Jesus back into the fold permanently.

However, the Arsenal boss admits his star man will not be granted an automatic berth back into the starting XI.
And Jesus will instead have to fight for his place after the Gunners continued to hold their lead at the top without him.
Arteta said: “He’s not far now. I don’t want to give a timeline but he is doing certain things with the team and certain things away from the team.
“He’s not very close but he’s not far at all. He is feeling better every day and feeling confident with the way the injury is evolving.
“We are in a good place with him. At the beginning we were pretty concerned and thankfully it wasn’t that bad.
“Gabi has bene through that before, his mentality is incredible and the team has done a really good job with him.
“We don’t know [exactly when he’s back]. He needs to do much more with the team.
“But let’s see how the next week, 10 days develop, and we will have a better picture after that.

‘Wow!’ – Jurgen Klopp reacts after being told of incredible penalty stat ahead of crunch clash against Man Utd

JURGEN KLOPP was left stunned after learning of Liverpool’s lengthy run without a penalty ahead of their clash against Manchester United.Liverpool welcome the Red Devils to Anfield on Sunday with Klopp’s side looking to close the gap to the top four.

Liverpool were last awarded a penalty 32 games ago
The Reds have struggled this year but Klopp is confident the stats show his side are doing the right things.
But one stat working against Liverpool is their run of 32 games without a penalty.
The Reds were last awarded a penalty against Watford last April, and they have had 1,138 touches in the penalty box since their last spot-kick, per Opta.
The Liverpool boss was informed of the stat in his pre-match press conference.

He responded with surprise saying: “We still have the second most possession, the second most shots on goal.
“Stats wise we are up there so we are very often in the opposition box, I have no clue how that could happen.
“There are so many strange decisions where you think, ‘wow, how is that possible’.
“But to not get a penalty for that long a time is funny.”

Meanwhile, Bournemouth can empathise with Liverpool’s position having not had a penalty for 24 Prem matches.
Brighton, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest have also had a lengthy wait between penalties while United last had a spot-kick against Crystal Palace – four games ago.
The longest run in the English top division without a penalty remains 91 games for Wimbledon between 1997 and 2000.
Liverpool have had just one longer run in the Premier League, 45 games in 1996 and 1997. More

Butt was already the third-choice midfielder for Sir Alex Ferguson, as he had legends Roy Keane and Paul Scholes to pick from.
But when Kleberson and Djemba-Djemba both joined United in 2003 and were preferred over Butt, he became more frustrated with his lack of opportunities to play.
He told The Daily Mail: “[Paul] Scholes and [Roy] Keane were better than me but I always played in the big games because we would play a three in midfield.
“So I was okay. Not always dead happy but okay.

I was sick of Man Utd and p***ed off at board.. I had to quit or I was going to blow, reveals Class of 92 legend

He went on to win six Premier League titles, the Champions League and three FA Cups before joining Newcastle in 2004.
The former midfielder spent six years with the Magpies, which included a season-long loan at Birmingham, before finishing his playing career in Hong Kong with South China.
The 39-capped ex-England international returned to Old Trafford in 2012 as United’s reserve boss.
Four years later he was named the head of academy and, after briefly helping out interim manager Ryan Giggs with the seniors following David Moyes’ sacking, he was then tasked with being the head of first-team development in 2019.

However, following nine years as part of the coaching set-up, this icon left United again after over two decades of service in March 2021.
The man we are talking about, of course, is none other than Nicky Butt.
Now in an interview with the Daily Mail, he has revealed that interfering directors left him “p***ed off” so much that he had to leave.

Butt said: “My vision and my philosophy and what I was brought up on at Man United didn’t go with the people running the club so it was time to leave.

“I am not saying I was right all the time but I knew if I didn’t leave I was gonna blow. And that wouldn’t be good.”
Having left his boyhood team twice, Butt is adamant that the second time was nowhere near as heartbreaking as the first.
He said: “Scholes and [Roy] Keane were better than me but I always played in the big games because we would play a three in midfield. So I was okay. Not always dead happy but okay.
“But I truly couldn’t stand players who were not as good as me playing instead of me. Kleberson, Djemba-Djemba. Just because they had been bought.
“I couldn’t have it so I left. But it was hard. The second time, two years back, wasn’t hard because I realised I couldn’t be there anymore.”
Butt is far from done with football though, and he has just recently been appointed as chief executive of League Two side Salford City – who he part-owns with former United team-mates Gary and Phil Neville, Scholes, Beckham and Ryan Giggs.
He added: “You don’t go through seven years of coaching badges to toss it off and not do it again. But I got to a fork in the road and I went the other way. I wasn’t happy at United so I left. I had a bit of a chip on my shoulder if I am honest.
“I was sick of people upstairs telling me about football. If I was to tell people in the boardroom how to run a football club they would just look at me wouldn’t they? But they have the right to talk about developing players? So I was p***ed off about it.

“Eventually I left but before that I went and did a CEO course. I didn’t ever want to be one. I just wanted to be more in tune with a chief exec, to be more empathetic.

A loan move to Nice followed last summer but Pepe has still played a role in Arsenal topping the Prem.
That’s because he influenced Gabriel Magalhaes to sign for the Gunners in the summer of 2020.
Pepe played alongside Gabriel at Lille before his switch to The Emirates.
The defender had multiple offers at the time and reportedly came close to joining Everton before the pandemic disrupted the transfer window.

“I spoke with Napoli, Everton again, then I finally chose Arsenal thanks to Nicolas Pepe who sold me the club well.”
