Man Utd ratings vs Liverpool: Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes put in horror shows but not one player puts in performance

LIVERPOOL put in a stunning performance to embarrass Manchester United 7-0.The Red Devils were shambolic during the second half as the players lost their heads following multiple pieces of sloppy defending and the day was a disaster.

It was delight for Liverpool as they blew their rivals awayCredit: EPA
Former Man Utd transfer target Cody Gakpo netted twice, as did Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah. Roberto Firmino then added a seventh.
Here is how SunSport rated the individual performances as Man Utd capitulated.
    David De Gea – 4
De Gea will be disappointed to concede seven, especially getting beaten by such a tight angle on the third and seventh goal. There was not much he could do about the others as he stood helpless.
    Diogo Dalot – 4
He was given the nod ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka despite his good form. Dalot is far better going forward, his pace and ability to cross did show before the collapse.
However, he made a mistake in Gakpo’s first goal, Dalot pressed Andy Robertson but never got tight enough to him, which therefore led to the ball being played behind him into the winger.
    Raphael Varane – 3
Varane did not cover himself in glory as Gakpo made it 1-0. He was slow to anticipate the danger when the ball was hit in behind Fred, who was filling in out wide.
The centre-back didn’t get out to him quickly enough and failed to take him onto his weaker left foot.
As shown at PSV, Gakpo is deadly when cutting in and Varane didn’t do enough to stop him from playing to his strength and United were punished.

    Lisandro Martinez – 3
The first-half was typical Martinez, he prevented a goal with a great block on Nunez and was tenacious and physical.
However, he was left on the floor after being twisted and turned by Salah.
As the goals increased, he lost his head and was poor with balls coming into the box.
    Luke Shaw – 2
Shaw was sloppy on the second goal. He initially gave the ball away with a woeful pass and then could not sort his feet out to clear, handing it back to Harvey Elliot, who crossed to Nunez to head home.
On commentary, Gary Neville called his defending “appalling.”
    Casemiro – 4
He picked up a slight knock in opening stages and it was not his best performance, giving the ball away a few times in the first 45 minutes.
He was also clumsy when trying to put a tackle in to prevent Liverpool’s second goal.
    Fred – 4
As Dalot pushed forward, Fred drifted into the full-back role. Yet he looked lost when there, taking a few steps too many towards Gakpo, which allowed a huge gap to form between him and Varane.
Robertson showed his quality by hitting an inch perfect ball that split the right-hand side of United’s defence. Fred did not cut off the passing line and it let the goalscorer get in behind and get a shot away.
    Antony – 5
The tricky winger was lively throughout and was a threat, but he lacked the end product needed.
He put himself about and was aggressive in the second-half as he was another who couldn’t keep his cool.
    Wout Weghorst – 6
He worked as hard as ever and playing in the No10 role allowed Marcus Rashford to use his pace on the counter as the centre-forward.
    Bruno Fernandes – 3
An awful day and his passion led to him getting in trouble.
He did not do much and embarrassingly dived, holding his face when Ibrahima Konate made contact with his chest. Fernandes had fully lost his temper at the end and it’s a miracle he wasn’t booked.
Neville labelled his behaviour as a “disgrace”.
    Marcus Rashford – 5
Being played as the striker, the tactic from Erik ten Hag was to use his speed with direct and fast attacks.
With the game goalless, he was found well by Shaw with a long ball but he failed to get a shot that had conviction off.
    Substitutes:
    Alejandro Garnacho (for Weghorst, 58) – 5
All players are to blame, yet it was not really his fault.
    Scott McTominay (for Fred, 58) – 4
McTominay was a tad unlucky as he failed to regain possession twice in the build-up to Salah’s goal and Liverpool’s fourth, but he should have cut the ball out.
    Marcel Sabitzer (for Casemiro, 77) – 5
Not much he could do coming on at 5-0, but he did play a few decent passes.
    Read More on The Sun
    Tyrell Malacia (for Martinez, 78) – 4
He moved to left-back for Shaw and was just as bad as him.
    Anthony Elanga (for Rashford, 85) – 5
Had not time to leave an impact.

He also played a key role in two other goals, slipping in Cody Gakpo brilliantly to put the game in Liverpool’s control at the start of the second half.
But before the pass he had to take on Martinez and he left the World Cup winner on the floor.
Salah feigned to cut inside before instantly continuing down the right flank, spinning Martinez who had no clue how to stop the Liverpool winger.
He was so disorientated he lost balance and fell to the ground, allowing Salah time to find Gakpo.

Liverpool 7 Man Utd 0: Humiliation for Ten Hag’s side as biggest defeat for 92 YEARS leaves Quadruple dream in tatters

WELL at least there is a consolation for Manchester United after this devastating derby drubbing – their scouting department is clearly on the ball. Because it was Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez – two United targets nabbed by Liverpool – who inflicted a defeat which comprehensively ended Erik ten Hag’s slim prospects of winning the Premier League title.

Mo Salah also scored twice to compound United’s miseryCredit: Reuters
In a devastating seven-minute burst either side of half-time, Dutch forward Gakpo struck twice, either side of a header from Uruguayan striker Nunez, and Jurgen Klopp’s resurgent side moved ominously to within one place of the Champions League spots.
Mo Salah broke Liverpool’s Premier League scoring record by hammering a double of his own to complete United’s misery, then Nunez added his second as United were crushed and utterly humiliated.

There had been fanciful talk of Ten Hag’s side aiming for a quadruple in recent weeks, but those ambitions have certainly been reduced after the heaviest defeat in the history of this fixture.
And it was the sort of thrashing which may well have a wide-ranging effect on the remainder of United’s campaign.
This was only their second defeat in 21 games, and they had secured their first trophy in six years the previous weekend, but the scale of the victory and the nature of their sudden collapse was deeply worrying.
Rampant Liverpool – returning to the vintage form of the Klopp era – chalked up a fifth straight Premier League clean sheet and are now just three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand.
Even during a poor season for Klopp’s side, they have still managed to roll over for some top sides at Anfield – Newcastle, Manchester City and now this thumping success over a club they enjoy beating more than any other opponent.
Dutchman Gakpo, a long-term United target signed by Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven for £37m in January, was excellent.
    Most read in Football
He has four goals in his last five Premier League appearances and is making a superb early impact.
Nunez, who took more time to settle, is coming good now with four goals in as many appearances.
Liverpol had already been heartened by defeats for top-four rivals Spurs and Newcastle on Saturday, so this was a perfect weekend for them.
Klopp’s side began with an aggressive intent, and a full-throated Anfield behind them, but the first save was Alisson’s – the Reds keeper pushing wide a curling shot from his fellow Brazilian Antony.
With their midfield general, and Carabao Cup final goalscorer, Casemiro struggling to find his feet early on, Liverpool were dominant in midfield.
Lisandro Martinez, Ten Hag’s tenacious little Scrappy-Doo, beat Nunez to a dangerous Andy Robertson cross, then appeared to get away with a forearm to the face of Salah.
But while Klopp’s men were all about manic energy, for a while, United were actually the more measured side.
They began to emerge as an attacking force, with their full-backs to the fore.
Diogo Dalot’s centre picked out Bruno Fernandes, who sent a header wide across goal, and Luke Shaw’s diagonal pass released Marcus Rashford, who duffed a volley when he might have taken a touch and scored.
Fabinho was booked for tripping Rashford and stopping a United counter-attack – and from the resulting Fernandes free-kick, Casemiro headed into the net but was clearly offside.
And a minute later, Liverpool seized the lead.
Alisson rolled it out to Andy Robertson whose artful pass caught United square and released Gakpo, who cut inside Raphael Varane and drilled a fierce shot inside the far post.
It was Liverpool’s first shot on target and it sent Klopp’s men into the interval with their tails up just as United had looked like taking control.
United had come from behind to defeat Barcelona and West Ham in the previous 11 days – but Liverpool were straight back at them and doubled their lead within two minutes of the restart.
If the first was disappointing from United’s point of view, the second was shambolic.
Shaw ceded possession with a loose pass and a succession of United players failed to make tackles as the visitors worked it to the left, where Harvey Elliott rifled in a centre for Nunez to nod home from close range.
United’s collapse was complete a couple of minutes later, with a stunning Liverpool break.
Gakpo’s pass released Salah down the left and the Egyptian rinsed Martinez, who ended on his backside, before his return pass saw Gakpo net with an angled shot.
United howled for a penalty when a scrambling Alisson appeared to trip Fernandes but ref Andy Madley and his VAR were unmoved.
Salah rammed home the fourth off the underside of the bar after a Gakpo pass had deflected off Scott McTominay.
Fifteen minutes from time, United failed to clear a Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick and when Jordan Henderson floated in a centre Nunez nutted home his second.
United had been cut to ribbons and were losing their heads, McTominay escaping with a yellow card for a horrible challenge on Gakpo, Shaw – who had a shocking second half – getting involved with Nunez and Fernandes showing plenty of all-round petulance.

So it was no real surprise when Liverpool netted their sixth – Salah breaking Robbie Fowler’s record with his 129th Premier League strike for the Reds.
And sub Roberto Firmino fired the seventh to send The Kop into raptures, United’s defence a shambles again as the Brazilian converted a Salah cross.

Ten Hag rues lack of discipline
Erik ten Hag blamed United’s “worst” display of the year on poor discipline.
The Red Devils’ manager is angry at his side’s total absence of composure as Liverpool rattled in goals either side of half-time to spark a 7-0 romp.
Ten Hag said: “It was a really bad performance and the worst of the year.
“We lost the game at the end of the first half and at the start of the second but you have to keep your head up and we didn’t.
“It’s all about showing discipline and we didn’t, so that’s when you start conceding goals.
“It’s a really unprofessional performance and unnecessary. You have to do your jobs and we didn’t.”
    Erik vows to bounce back
Erik ten Hag claims United have proved under him they can recover from huge shocks.
Referencing two previous heavy away losses this season, the Red Devils’ boss said: “We have seen in the past we can bounce back.
After Brentford (0-4), after Manchester City (3-6). This is definitely a strong setback and is unacceptable.
“We let the fans down and I’m really disappointed and angry about it.
“It is a reality check… It’s a strong message [that] we get.”
Ten Hag blasts ‘unprofessional’ Red Devils
Erik ten Hag claims his “unprofessional” United side “lost their heads” in the second half of a record 7-0 loss at Liverpool.
The home team went ahead on 43 minutes and dominated once moving 3-0 in front after 50.
Ten Hag said: “Second half it was not us. It was not our standards. We didn’t play as a team.”
He admitted he was surprised” because “I have seen the last weeks and months a team that is resilient and determined with a winning attitude”.
The Dutchman added: “We didn’t stick to the plan, we lose our heads. We didn’t do our jobs.
“We didn’t track back and it was really unprofessional.”
    ‘I’d go into hiding’
Roy Keane reckons he’d have gone into hiding if he’d lost 7-0 to Liverpool in in his United playing days.
The former hardman told Sky Sports: “The big players, the ones we all build up, really let the club down.
“If you ever get beaten by six or seven, you go into hiding for a few days.
“I’d go missing for a few months. I don’t know what to say, I’m in shock.”
You don’t grin anything with kids…
Gary Neville accused fellow Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness of “gloating like little children” following their old club Liverpool’s 7-0 win over Manchester United.
Cody Gakpo opened the floodgates with his opener on 43 minutes as Nev’s former team collapsed.

But Old Trafford legend  Neville disagreed with Souness and Carragher on whehter it ewas mainly down tio Liverpool brilliance or United ineptitude.
Souness began by referencing his prediction before the game that Liverpool would win comfortably. He then added: “Gary said off-air that you thought Liverpool played badly today.”
Neville replied: “I didn’t say that. I said I thought first half Manchester United were the better team. I think that in the second half it was about Manchester United’s capitulation.”
Souness chimed back with: “So that had nothing to do with Liverpool playing well?”
Before Neville qualified his view, adding: “I don’t think when Jurgen Klopp analyses that game tomorrow – the momentum from that he’ll take – but I don’t think he’ll think ‘we’re back’. I don’t think he’ll fall into that trap. They won’t get carried away off the back of that at all.”
As Souness attempted to come back in, an agitated Neville then said: “Look at them. You’re gloating like little children.”
To which Souness replied: “You can’t come out with a daft remark like ‘Liverpool didn’t play well today’.”
    Fans reckon Mikel predicted 7-0!
Arsenal fans claim manager Mikel Arteta predicted Manchester United’s 7-0 hammering at Liverpool.
The Red Devils were blown away by Jurgen Klopp’s side and it left them 14 points behind the Gunners at the top of the table.
Still buzzing after their 3-2 comeback win over Bournemouth on Saturday, Arsenal fans even joked their boss can predict the future.
Arteta was spotted on the sidelines against the Cherries, holding up seven fingers.

Poking fun at Man Utd, one supporter posted the photo and added the scoreline from Anfeld to the gesture.
Fans found it hilarious, one said: “Arteta is a genius.”
    Another reacted: “Another Arteta masterclass.”
A third commented: “He knew all along.”
Perhaps being able to see into the future is a talent needed at Arsenal, as even director of football Edu has been at it.
When Arteta was under serious pressure two years ago, the former Arsenal midfielder ensured supporters the “future is beautiful” with the Spaniard in charge.

Old Trafford legend Roy Keane labelled United “embarrassing, shocking” after their 7-0 Anfield thumping – but claimed Liverpool are back to their “very, very best”.
Keane believes the Red Devils’ senior players “didn’t show any leadership skills” in adversity after only trailing 1-0 at the break.

“But I have to say Liverpool were absolutely amazing.
“Their energy, decision-making… Liverpool were back to their very, very best.
“But certainly it’s an embarrassing day for United.”
    Bruno slammed for ’embarrassing’ dive
Bruno Fernandes has been slammed for an embarrassing dive in Man Utd’s 7-0 loss at Liverpool.
The Red Devils’ captain fell to the ground clutching his face after feeling contact from Ibrahima Konate.
The Liverpool defender was in control of the ball at the time and had his arm outstretched as he was running, and he appeared to hit Fernandes in the chest.

Fernandes went down as if he was injured despite the minimal contact and it was no surprise when he got back up to his feet moments later.
Fans blasted the Portuguese and labelled his behaviour as “embarrassing”.
One said: “Bruno Fernandes is the biggest crybaby in the Premier League. How can you dive and then get mad at the referee for not giving a pen?”
Another added: “Bruno Fernandes is a clown. The dive there deserved an Oscar.”
A third said: “Bruno Fernandes is the most embarrassing player in the league. Clear and obvious dive 😂 Gets a hand on his chest and goes down clutching his face.”

    Reds hail ‘Egyptian king’
Mo Salah’s double made him Liverpool’s record Prem scorer on 129 goals – and highest ever against United.
The Reds hailed their “Egyptian king” on social media after he fired the fourth and sixth goals in the 7-0 Anfield win.
Incredibly,. Salah has netted ten of his deadly dozen against the Red Devils in his last five encounters with them.
Robbie Fowler netted 10 goals in all for Liverpool against United.
Grumpy Nev tells cocky Carra to ‘do one’
Gary Neville raged at Jamie Carragher after the Liverpool legend mocked him during Manchester United’s 7-0 defeat at Anfield.
The Reds handed Erik ten Hag’s side an astonishing thrashing on Sunday afternoon as Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah all helped themselves to braces, before Roberto Firmino added a seventh.
It was an incredible second-half collapse from the Red Devils as they conceded six goals in 38 minutes.

And Carragher was not going to let his side’s biggest ever win over Man Utd go by without comment.
Reacting to the remarkable scoreline on Sky Sports’ coverage, Neville said: “You might lose 2-0, you might lose 2-1, you might lose 3-0, but you DO NOT lose 7-0 here. You just don’t”.
Poking fun, Carragher hilariously responded: “You do today”.
An upset Neville then replied to his colleague’s jibe by simply saying: “Do one”.
During the second-half mauling, Carragher also shared a picture from the commentary gantry.
It showed him grinning from ear to ear as a grumpy Neville looked on unimpressed.
‘Big players let Utd down’ – Keane
Roy Keane singled out lack of leadership for United’s “shocking” 7-0 loss at Anfield.
The ex-Red Devils’ hardman said: “It was obviously a bad day, shocking really.
“It was game over at the beginning of the second half. The senior players were embarrassing. They didn’t show any leadership skills. Shocking.
“Thank God I was never part of a team beaten by that much at United.
“The players will be ashamed and embarrassed. When the going got tough, they went missing.
“They didn’t show any pride, fight or spirit.
“The big players, the ones we all build up, really let the club down. If you ever get beaten by six or seven, you go into hiding for a few days.
“I’d go missing for a few months. I don’t know what to say, I’m in shock.”
    From ‘classic’ to ‘shambles’ ..
Gary Neville reckons United delivered a “classic away performance” for 40 minutes” – then a disgraceful second half.
The Red Devils went from 0-0 at 43 minutes to 0-3 down at 50… on the way to a 7-0 humiliation.
Ex-Old Trafford defender Neville told Sky Sports: “The first 40 minutes was a classic away performance. They (United) weathered the storm and it looked like they were going to get a goal.
“But the second-half was an absolute disgrace and a shambles.
“That was epitomised by captain Bruno Fernandes who was embarrassing at times.
“But it was not their usual performance or spirit. Ten Hag will deal with it like he’s dealt with other difficult situations”
    Bruno admits United were ‘erratic’
Under-fire skipper Bruno Fernandes admitted United virtually fell apart in Liverpool’s second-half rampage.
The Red Devils were arguably on top until Cody Gakpo’s 43rd minute opener, but fell apart once Liverpool added a quick double after the break on the way to a record 7-0 victory.
Fernandes told Sky Sports: “It’s really frustrating, because it’s a really bad result.
“The first half was really good, we created most of the chances, they didn’t create much. The second half was not our level.”
But of United crumbling, he added: “The team tries to react but in an erratic way. We tried to go forward but lost some shape.”
What is Man Utd’s biggest loss?
Manchester United’s biggest loss is 7-0.
The have lost by that scoreline on FOUR occasions, most recently to Liverpool on Match 5, 2023.
They also suffered a 7-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on 10 April 1926, to Aston Villa on 27 December 1930 and to Wolverhampton on Boxing Day, 1931.
All of those defeats happened away from home.
The shock Liverpool loss at Anfield was United’s biggest in the Premier League era, and was their worst result in 92 years.
Man Utd stars appear to turn on Dalot
Some Man Utd players appeared to turn on Diogo Dalot during their match against Liverpool.
Anthony and Fred were spotted criticising the defender mid-way through the first half.
They appeared to be unhappy with his use of the ball, with manager Erik ten Hag also seen bellowing at Dalot from the touchline.
To make matters worse for the Portuguese Liverpool opened the scoring after exploiting United’s right flank.
Dalot was drawn towards Andy Robertson on the ball, meaning he left a huge space behind him.
    Man Utd humiliation
Manchester United have experienced their heaviest ever Premier League defeat.
United haven’t lost like this since 1931, which means this hasn’t happened since before World War II.
However, this sort of embarrassing loss has happened three times before.

    Complete contrast at Anfield
The derby between Liverpool and Manchester United started one way and ended in a completely oppossite way.
United entered the pitch shortly after their Carabao Cup triumph amid talks of a surprise Premier League challenge.
The Reds, on the other hand, had been undergoing a turbulent season that has been completely different to their unprecedented quadruple challenge last term.
But the mood changed dramatically at full-time as the Red Devils’ title hopes are now practically dead and the Merseysiders have restored confidence with their best performance of the season.

    Jamie Carragher speaks
Liverpool’s triumph over Manchester United took Jamie Carragher “two or three years” back in time.
Carragher told Sky Sports: “It was unbelievable watching the second half. It was the shock of, ‘How’s this first half ended up like this second half from both team’s point of view?’
“Seeing Manchester United so bad in that second half and seeing Liverpool so good.
“We haven’t seen that performance I don’t think at any time this season.
“That second-half performance felt like two or three years ago when the opposition just couldn’t cope with them, especially at Anfield”

    Roy Keane criticism
Legendary Manchester United captain Roy Keane didn’t hold back when criticising the performance against Liverpool.
Keane told Sky Sports: “It was obviously a bad day, shocking really. It was game over at the beginning of the second half.
“The senior players were embarrassing. They didn’t show any leadership skills. Shocking. It was a tough day for United. Thank god I was never part of a team beaten by that much at United.
“The players will be ashamed and embarrassed. When the going got tough, they went missing. They didn’t show any pride, fight or spirit.
“The big players, the ones we all build up, really let the club down. If you ever get beaten by six or seven, you go into hiding for a few days. I’d go missing for a few months. I don’t know what to say, I’m in shock”

    Gary Neville reacts
Manchester United legend Gary Neville described the Red Devils’ performance as an “absolute disgrace” but expressed support for manager Erik ten Hag.
Neville told Sky Sports: “The first 40 minutes was a classic away performance. They weathered the storm and it looked like they were going to get a goal.
“But the second half was an absolute disgrace and a shambles. That was epitomised by captain Bruno Fernandes who was embarrassing at times.
“But it was not their usual performance or spirit. [Erik] Ten Hag will deal with it like he’s dealt with other difficult situations”

    Appalling pitch invasion
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was left raging at a pitch invader for invading the pitch and clattering into Andy Robertson.
Roberto Firmino scored the Reds’ seventh goal in their remarkable 7-0 win over rivals Manchester United.
But the celebrations were momentarily cut short when an inconsiderate fan stormed on to the pitch and appeared to slide into the huddle and injure Robertson.
The left-back was left in pain on the floor as security got on top of the invader.
Robertson was able to finish the game, but the fan was not about to get off lightly as he was dragged past Klopp.
The German tactician furiously screamed at the supporter for his actions – which could have left his player with a serious injury

    Ten Hag reacts
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag described the second-half performance as “unprofessional” and confirmed there will be a serious talk about their embarrassing loss.
Ten Hag told Sky Sports: “The second half was unprofessional. It can’t happen and we have to talk about it.
“It was about the whole team, I saw 11 individuals losing their heads.
“That is not Manchester United, we have higher standards”

    Elliott and Gakpo stand out
Mohamed Salah was Liverpool’s man of the match against Manchester United.
But Salah wasn’t the only standout performer for Jurgen Klopp’s side at Anfield.
Cody Gakpo scored a brace and made his presence felt all over the Reds’ attacking half even though he played as a No9.
Harvey Ellioot also put together a masterclass in midfield, especially down the right and produced an assist.

    Jurgen Klopp reacts
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hailed his team’s “perfect” performance and warned their Premier League rivals they are ” still around”.
Klopp told Sky Sports: “First half it got a bit wild. But we scored an incredible goal, what a finish. Second half, start pretty good and the finish was pretty good.
“It’s important that we really perform and all the guys come on and score, Bobby [Roberto Firmino] comes on and scores. Diogo [Jota] could have scored. All top performances.
“It was perfect. Everybody has to feel us, everybody has to know we are still around. That’s what we have to be from now on”

    Mohamed Salah reacts
Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah revealed he will celebrate becoming Liverpool’s Premier League record goalscorer with a “chamomile tea and sleep”.
Salah told Sky Sports: “It’s very special, I can’t lie. This record was in my mind since I came here. After my first season I was always chasing the record.
“To get it today against [Manchester] United with that result is unbelievable. I’m going home to celebrate with the family, Chamomile tea and sleep.
“We need to stay humble. We are not in the position we want to be but hopefully it will give us a big push”

Fuming Liverpool fans fly plane over Anfield before Man Utd clash with message to Jurgen Klopp and FSG owners

ANGRY Liverpool fans flew a banner before Sunday’s home clash with Manchester United calling for club owners FSG to go and manager Jurgen Klopp to stay.Supporters believe the Fenway Sports Group has failed to back Klopp properly after the Reds picked up two trophies last season, as well as finishing runners-up in the Premier League and Champions League.

Fans unhappy with FSG were even more frustrated in January when the American conglomerate appeared to U-turn on selling the club, deciding instead to offload only a small minority share.
And a banner from a plane above Anfield on Sunday afternoon read: “FSG out – Klopp In –  Enough is Enough.”
The mood would have been lifted somewhat by a tremendous display which saw the Reds inflict a 7-0 hammering on their fierce rivals.
But fans are upset with what they see as a lack of backing for Klopp as his team struggle to finish in even the top four.
